EuCd_{2}As_{2} has attracted considerable interest as one of the few magnetic Weyl semimetal candidate materials, although recently there have been emerging reports that claim it to have a semiconducting electronic structure. To resolve this debate, we established the growth of n-type EuCd_{2}As_{2} crystals, to directly visualize the nature of the conduction band using angle resolve photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). We show that La-do** leads to n-type transport signatures in both the thermopower and Hall effect measurements, in crystals with do** levels at 2 - 6 x 10^{17} e^{-} cm^{-3}. Both p-type and n-type doped samples exhibit antiferromagnetic ordering at 9 K. ARPES experiments at 6 K clearly show the presence of the conduction band minimum at 0.8 eV above the valence band maximum, which is further corroborated by the observation of a 0.71 - 0.72 eV band gap in room temperature diffuse reflectance absorbance measurements. Together these findings unambiguously show that EuCd_{2}As_{2} is indeed a semiconductor with a substantial band gap and not a topological semimetal.

Abstract:
We present new relations for calculation of phonon polaritons, plasmons and plasmon polaritons frequencies, which differ from the standard relations. So, we study the frequency of phonon polaritons in a two dimensional lattice with applications to CuO2 lattice. Next, we evaluate plasmon frequencies in graphene and in Cu2D and Cu3D metals. Further, we evaluate the frequency of surface plasmon polaritons at the Cu2D/air and Cu3D/air interfaces. The obtained results are in a good agreement with experimental data. Also, we present a correspondence between the potential vector and the displacement of an oscillator. It is well known that the commutation relations of the operators in second quantization originate from the simple harmonic oscillators that are used to quantize the electromagnetic field. Finally, we present a comparison between photons, phonons and plasmons.

By using a Hamiltonian based on the coupling through flux lines, we have calculated the interaction energy between two fermions via massless bosons as well as via massive particles. In the case of interaction via massless bosons we obtain an equivalent expression for the Coulomb's energy on the form, where is the fine structure constant. In the case of the interaction via massive particles we obtain that the interaction energy contains a term building the potential well. Taking into account the spin-spin interaction of the nucleons, we show that this interaction modulates the interaction potential through a cosine factor. The obtained results are in good agreement with experimental data, for example, of deuteron.

Interface dipole determines the electronic energy alignment in donor/acceptor interfaces and plays an important role in organic photovoltaics. Here we present a study combining first principles density functional theory (DFT) with ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (UPS) and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) to investigate the interface dipole, energy level alignment, and structural properties at the interface between CuPc and C60. DFT finds a sizable interface dipole for the face-on orientation, in quantitative agreement with the UPS measurement, and rules out charge transfer as the origin of the interface dipole. Using TOF-SIMS we show that the interfacial morphology for the bilayer CuPc/C60 film is characterized by molecular intermixing, containing both the face-on and the edge-on orientation. The complementary experimental and theoretical results provide both insight into the origin of the interface dipole and direct evidence for the effect of interfacial morphology on the interface dipole.

The electric field governing the dynamics of space charge produced by high intensity femtosecond laser pulses focused on a copper surface is investigated by time-resolved low-energy-electron-scattering. The pump-probe experiment has a measured temporal resolution of better than 35 ps at 55 eV probe electron energy. The probe electron acceleration due to space charge is reproduced within a 3-dimensional non-relativistic model, which determines an effective number of electrons in the space charge electron cloud and its initial diameter. Comparison of the simulations with the experiments indicates a Coulomb explosion, which is consistent with transients in the order of 1 ns, the terminal kinetic energy of the cloud and the thermoemission currents predicted by the Richardson-Dushman formula.
