At a large displacement field, in rhomboedral and Bernal-stacked graphene a normal paramagnetic state transitions to a correlated state. Recent experiments showed that such systems have several phase transitions as a function of the carrier density. The phase adjacent to a paramagnetic state has anomalously high resistance and reduced degeneracy of the Fermi sea. We show that both phenomena can be explained through a concept of partial intervalley exciton condensation: a fraction of particles condenses into excitons, and another forms an intervalley coherent Fermi liquid. The exciton part of the system do not contribute to the electrical current thus increasing the resistance. Within this paradigm, the increase in the resistance has entirely geometrical origin. We check validity of the phenomenological theory through numerical calculations. We also show that the quantum oscillation data should not be very different between the partial excitonic state and the intervalley coherent states suggested by other authors. Further, we suggest STM/AFM or Raman spectroscopy to have a conclusive evidence for the occurrence of the partial exciton condensation that we suggest in this paper.

We investigate the possibility and implications of interlayer coherence in electrically isolated superconducting bilayers. We find that in a mean-field approximation bilayers can have superconducting and excitonic order simultaneously if repulsive interactions between layers are sufficiently strong. The excitonic order implies interlayer phase coherence, and can be studied in a representation of symmetric and antisymmetric bilayer states. When both orders are present we find several solutions of the mean-field equations with different values of the the symmetric and antisymmetric state pair amplitudes. The mixed state necessarily has non-zero pair amplitudes for electrons in different layers in spite of the repulsive interlayer interactions, and these are responsible for spatially indirect Andreev reflection processes in which an incoming electron in one layer can be reflected as a hole in the opposite layer. We evaluate layer diagonal and off-diagonal current-voltage relationships that can be used to identify this state experimentally.

Abstract:
This Letter brings together two topics that, until now, have been the focus of intense but non-overlap** research efforts. The first concerns high harmonic generation in solids, which occurs when intense light field excites highly non-equilibrium electronic response in a semiconductor or a dielectric. This Letter brings together two topics that, until now, have been the focus of intense but non-overlap** research efforts. The first concerns high harmonic generation in solids, which occurs when intense light field excites highly non-equilibrium electronic response in a semiconductor or a dielectric. The second concerns many-body dynamics in strongly correlated systems such as the Mott insulator. Here we show that high harmonic generation can be used to time-resolve ultrafast many-body dynamics associated with optically driven phase transition, with accuracy far exceeding one cycle of the driving light field. Our work paves the way for time-resolving highly non-equilibrium many body dynamics in strongly correlated systems, with few femtosecond accuracy.

We study the time evolution of a half-filled Hubbard layer coupled to a magnon bath after a quench of the Hubbard interaction. Qualitatively different regimes, regarding the asymptotic long-time dynamics, are identified and characterized within the mean-field approximation. In the absence of the bath, the dynamics of the closed system is similar to that of a quenched BCS condensate. Though the presence of the bath introduces an additional relaxation mechanism, our numerical results and analytical arguments show that equilibration with the bath is not necessarily attained within the approximations used. Instead, nonequilibrium states, similar to the ones observed in the closed system, can emerge at long times as a consequence of the competition between the intrinsic relaxation mechanism (Landau dam**, for example), and the bath-induced dissipation.

Abstract:
A new method for finding electronic structure and wavefunctions of electrons in quasiperiodic potential is introduced. To obtain results it uses slightly modified Schrodinger equation in spaces of dimensionality higher than physical space. It enables to get exact results for quasicrystals without expensive non-exact calculations. New method tested on one-dimensional quasiperiodic screened Coulomb…
