Ferroelectricity has been recently discovered in stacked or twisted van der Waals (vdW) moiré systems. The versatility of producing a large array of size-tunable domains and integration with diverse functional materials make them an enticing platform for develo** multifunctional devices. Here, we show that ferroelectric polar domains formed in a twisted hexagonal boron nitride (t-hBN) substrate can modulate light emission from an adjacent semiconductor monolayer. The abrupt change in electrostatic potential across the domains produces an in-plane electric field (E-field) and leads to a remarkably large exciton Stark shift in the adjacent MoSe$_2$ monolayer, previously only observable in \textit{p-n} junctions created by the advanced e-beam lithography tools. Both the spectrum and spatial pattern of the light emission from the monolayer are periodically modulated by the remote moiré potential imposed by the t-hBN substrate. We further observe a characteristic hysteresis behavior in the light emission as an electric gate erases and restores the domains. Our findings chart an exciting pathway for integrating nanometer-scale moiré ferroelectric domains with various optically active functional layers, paving the way for advanced nanophotonic applications.

Abstract:
Coherent exchange of single photons is at the heart of applied Quantum Optics. The negatively-charged silicon vacancy center in diamond is among most promising sources for coherent single photons. Its large Debye-Waller factor, short lifetime and extraordinary spectral stability is unique in the field of solid-state single photon sources. However, the excitation and detection of individual centers requires high numerical aperture optics which, combined with the need for cryogenic temperatures, puts technical overhead on experimental realizations. Here, we investigate a hybrid quantum photonics platform based on silicon-vacancy center in nanodiamonds and metallic bullseye antenna to realize a coherent single-photon interface that operates efficiently down to low numerical aperture optics with an inherent resistance to misalignment.

Efficient, high rate photon sources with high single photon purity are essential ingredients for quantum technologies. Single photon sources based on solid state emitters such as quantum dots are very advantageous for integrated photonic circuits, but they can suffer from a high two-photon emission probability, which in cases of non-cryogenic environment cannot be spectrally filtered. Here we propose two temporal purification-by-heralding methods for using a two photon emission process to yield highly pure and efficient single photon emission, bypassing the inherent problem of spectrally overlap** bi-photon emission. We experimentally demonstrate their feasibility on the emission from a single nanocrystal quantum dot, exhibiting single photon purities exceeding 99.5%, without a significant loss of single photon efficiency. These methods can be applied for any indeterministic source of spectrally broadband photon pairs.
