Abstract:
The main purpose of this paper is to show that every Jordan centralizer and every Jordan two-sided centralizer is a centralizer on triangular rings without assuming unity. As an application, we prove that every Jordan generalized derivation on a triangular ring is a two-sided generalized derivation. Some other related results are also discussed.

This paper reviews the second challenge on spectral reconstruction from RGB images, i.e., the recovery of whole-scene hyperspectral (HS) information from a 3-channel RGB image. As in the previous challenge, two tracks were provided: (i) a "Clean" track where HS images are estimated from noise-free RGBs, the RGB images are themselves calculated numerically using the ground-truth HS images and supplied spectral sensitivity functions (ii) a "Real World" track, simulating capture by an uncalibrated and unknown camera, where the HS images are recovered from noisy JPEG-compressed RGB images. A new, larger-than-ever, natural hyperspectral image data set is presented, containing a total of 510 HS images. The Clean and Real World tracks had 103 and 78 registered participants respectively, with 14 teams competing in the final testing phase. A description of the proposed methods, alongside their challenge scores and an extensive evaluation of top performing methods is also provided. They gauge the state-of-the-art in spectral reconstruction from an RGB image.

Thus, this paper proposes a computation resource leasing (CRL) concept using priority as an intermediary to restore and exchange the permission for computation resource for priority aggregation local computing network (PALCN). Each device in PALNC is able to gain priority as a reward for leasing its computing resource to others. CRL also offers a priority oriented algorithm to match the computation request with idle source nodes and a priority management model. Our analysis and numerical results show that the system can efficiently utilize local idle computation sources over time and space domain and filtrate the big task that local computation can not finish.

Observation of the decay $D^0\rightarrow K^-π^+e^+e^-$

We report the observation of the rare charm decay $D^0\rightarrow K^-π^+e^+e^-$, based on $468$ fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at or close to the center-of-mass energy of the $Y(4S)$ resonance with the BaBar detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We find the branching fraction in the invariant mass range $0.675< m(e^+e^-) < 0.875 GeV/c^2$ of the electron-positron pair to be ${\cal B}(D^0\rightarrow K^-π^+e^+e^-) = (4.0\pm0.5\pm0.2\pm0.1) \times 10^{-6}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to the uncertainty in the branching fraction of the decay $D^0\rightarrow K^-π^+π^+π^-$ used as a normalization mode. The significance of the observation corresponds to 9.7 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. This result is consistent with the recently reported $D^0\rightarrow K^-π^+μ^+μ^-$ branching fraction, measured in the same invariant mass range, and with the value expected in the Standard Model. In a set of regions of $m(e^+e^-)$ where long-distance effects are potentially small, we determine a 90% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction ${\cal B}(D^0\rightarrow K^-π^+e^+e^-) < 3.1 \times 10^{-6}$.

The first data release from the Gaia mission contains accurate positions and magnitudes for more than a billion sources, and proper motions and parallaxes for the majority of the 2.5~million Hipparcos and Tycho-2 stars.
We describe three essential elements of the initial data treatment leading to this catalogue: the image analysis, the construction of a source list, and the near real-time monitoring of the payload health. We also discuss some weak points that set limitations for the attainable precision at the present stage of the mission.
Image parameters for point sources are derived from one-dimensional scans, using a maximum likelihood method, under the assumption of a line spread function constant in time, and a complete modelling of bias and background. These conditions are, however, not completely fulfilled. The Gaia source list is built starting from a large ground-based catalogue, but even so a significant number of new entries have been added, and a large number have been removed. The autonomous onboard star image detection will pick up many spurious images, especially around bright sources, and such unwanted detections must be identified. Another key step of the source list creation consists in arranging the more than $10^{10}$ individual detections in spatially isolated groups that can be analysed individually.
Complete software systems have been built for the Gaia initial data treatment, that manage approximately 50~million focal plane transits daily, giving transit times and fluxes for 500~million individual CCD images to the astrometric and photometric processing chains. The software also carries out a successful and detailed daily monitoring of Gaia health.

While no evidence for gravitational-wave emission in coincidence with these radio transients was found, the current analysis serves as a prototype for similar future searches using more sensitive second-generation interferometers.

Using events with $m_{Kππ}<1.8{\mathrm{\,Ge\kern -0.1em V/}c^2}$, we measure the branching fractions of $B^+ \to K^+ π^- π^+ γ$ and $B^0 \to K^0 π^+ π^- γ$, the branching fractions of the kaonic resonances decaying to $K^+ π^- π^+$, as well as the overall branching fractions of the $B^+ \to ρ^0 K^+ γ$, $B^+ \to K^{*0} π^+ γ$ and S-wave $B^+ \to (K π)^{*0}_0 π^+ γ$ components. For events from the $ρ$ mass band, we measure the $CP$-violating parameters ${\mathcal{S}_{K^0_{S}π^+π^-γ}} = 0.14 \pm 0.25 \pm 0.03$ and ${\mathcal{C}_{K^0_{S}π^+π^-γ}} = -0.39 \pm 0.20^{+0.03}_{-0.02}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. We extract from this measurement the time-dependent $CP$ asymmetry related to the $CP$ eigenstate $ρ^0 {K^0_{S}}$ and obtain ${\mathcal{S}_{K^0_{S}ργ}} = -0.18 \pm 0.32^{+ 0.06}_{-0.05}$, which provides information on the photon polarization in the underlying $b \to s γ$ transition.

We study the processes $γγ\to K^0_S K^{\pm}π^{\mp}$ and $γγ\to K^+ K^- π^0$ using a data sample of 519~$fb^{-1}$ recorded with the BaBar detector operating at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider at center-of-mass energies at and near the $Υ(nS)$ ($n = 2,3,4$) resonances. We observe $η_c$ decays to both final states and perform Dalitz plot analyses using a model-independent partial wave analysis technique. This allows a model-independent measurement of the mass-dependence of the $I=1/2$ $K π$ $\mathcal{S}$-wave amplitude and phase. A comparison between the present measurement and those from previous experiments indicates similar behaviour for the phase up to a mass of 1.5 $GeV/c^2$. In contrast, the amplitudes show very marked differences. The data require the presence of a new $a_0(1950)$ resonance with parameters $m=1931 \pm 14 \pm 22 \ MeV/c^2$ and $Γ=271 \pm 22 \pm 29 \ MeV$.

We present a search for a neutral, long-lived particle $L$ that is produced in $e^+e^-$ collisions and decays at a significant distance from the $e^+e^-$ interaction point into various flavor combinations of two oppositely charged tracks. The analysis uses an $e^+e^-$ data sample with a luminosity of $489.1 \rm{fb}^{-1}$ collected by the BaBar detector at the $Υ$(4S), $Υ$(3S), and $Υ$(2S) resonances and just below the $Υ$(4S). Fitting the two-track mass distribution in search of a signal peak, we do not observe a significant signal, and set 90% confidence level upper limits on the product of the $L$ production cross section, branching fraction, and reconstruction efficiency for six possible two-body $L$ decay modes as a function of the $L$ mass. The efficiency is given for each final state as a function of the mass, lifetime, and transverse momentum of the candidate, allowing application of the upper limits to any production model. In addition, upper limits are provided on the branching fraction $Br(B\to X_s L)$, where $X_s$ is a strange hadronic system.

We present a measurement of the asymmetry $A_{CP}$ between same-sign inclusive dilepton samples $\ell^+ \ell^+$ and $\ell^- \ell^-$ ($\ell= e, μ$) from semileptonic B decays in Y(4S) --> BBbar events, using the complete data set recorded by the BABAR experiment near the Y(4S) resonance, corresponding to 471 million BBbar pairs. The asymmetry A_{CP} allows comparison between the mixing probabilities P(B0bar --> B0) and P(B0 --> B0bar), and therefore probes CP and T violation. The result, $A_{CP} = (-3.9 \pm 3.5 (stat) \pm 1.9 (syst)) \times 10^{-3}$, is consistent with the Standard Model expectation.

Search for new $π^0$-like particles produced in association with a $τ$-lepton pair

We report on a search in $e^+e^-$ annihilations for new $π^0$-like particles produced in association with a $τ$-lepton pair. The current Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) model has been constructed based on a nuclear reaction network operating with thermal reactivities of Maxwell-Boltzmann (MB) distribution plasma. However, does the classical MB distribution still hold for the extremely high-temperature (in order of 10$^9$ K) plasma involved in the Big-Bang environment? In this work, we have investigated the impact of non-extensive Tsallis statistics (in $q$-Guassian distribution) on the thermonuclear reaction rates. We show for the first time that the reverse rates are extremely sensitive to the non-extensive $q$ parameter. Such sensitivity does not allow a large deviation of non-extensive distribution from the usual MB distribution. With a newly developed BBN code, the impact of primordial light-element abundances on $q$ values has been studied by utilizing the most recent BBN cosmological parameters and the available nuclear cross-section data. For the first time, we have accurately verified the microscopic MB distribution with the macroscopic BBN theory and bservation. By comparing the recent observed primordial abundances with our predictions, only a tiny deviation of $\pm$6$\times$10$^{-4}$ at most can be allowed for the MB distribution. However, validity of the classical statistics needs to be studied further for the self-gravitating stars and binaries of high-density environment, with the extreme sensitivity of reverse rate on $q$ found here.

Evidence is presented for the baryonic $B$ meson decay $\bar{B}\rightarrow D^0 Λ\barΛ$ based on a data sample of $471 \times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected with the {\it BABAR} detector at the PEP2 asymmetric $e^+e^-$ collider located at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The branching fraction is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}\rightarrow D^0 Λ\barΛ) = (9.8^{+2.9}_{-2.6} \pm 1.9)\times 10^{-6}$, corresponding to a significance of $3.4$ standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. A search for the related baryonic $B$ meson decay $\bar{B}\rightarrow D^0 Σ^0 \barΛ$ with $Σ^0\rightarrowΛγ$ is performed and an upper limit $\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}\rightarrow D^0 Σ^0 \barΛ + \bar{B}\rightarrow D^0 Λ\barΣ^0) < 3.1 \times 10^{-5}$ is determined at $90\%$ confidence level.

We present a measurement of the total branching fraction of the flavor-changing neutral-current process B->Xsl+l-, along with partial branching fractions in bins of dilepton and hadronic system (Xs) mass, using a sample of 471x10^6 Upsilon(4S)->BBbar events recorded with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider. B mesons are reconstructed by combining a dilepton pair, either e+e- or mu+mu-, with 10 different Xs final states containing exactly one charged or neutral kaon, two or fewer charged pions, and at most one pi0. Using a sum over these exclusive modes as the basis for extrapolation to the fully inclusive rate, we measure a lepton-flavor-averaged inclusive branching fraction BF(B->Xsl+l-) = (6.73 +0.70-0.64[stat] +0.34-0.25[exp syst] +/- 0.50[model syst])x10^-6 for m(l+l-)^2>0.1 GeV^2/c^4. Restricting our analysis exclusively to final states from which a decaying B meson's flavor can be inferred, we additionally report measurements of the direct CP asymmetry ACP in bins of dilepton mass; over the full dilepton mass range, we find ACP=0.04 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.01$ for a lepton-flavor-averaged sample.

EDFA, as part of the Power Plant Physics and Technology programme, has been working on the pre-conceptual design of a Demonstration Power Plant (DEMO). As part of this programme, a review of the remote maintenance strategy considered maintenance solutions compatible with expected environmental conditions, whilst showing potential for meeting the plant availability targets. A key finding was that, for practical purposes, the expected radiation levels prohibit the use of complex remote handling operations to replace the first wall. In 2012/13, these remote maintenance activities were further extended, providing an insight into the requirements, constraints and challenges. In particular, the assessment of blanket and divertor maintenance, in light of the expected radiation conditions and availability, has elaborated the need for a very different approach from that of ITER. This activity has produced some very informative virtual reality simulations of the blanket segments and pipe removal that are exceptionally valuable in communicating the complexity and scale of the required operations. Through these simulations, estimates of the maintenance task durations have been possible demonstrating that a full replacement of the blankets within 6 months could be achieved. The design of the first wall, including the need to use sacrificial limiters must still be investigated. In support of the maintenance operations, a first indication of the requirements of an Active Maintenance Facility (AMF) has been elaborated.

The measurement is based on a dataset of 426.1 fb-1 of e+e- collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- storage rings. We measure a branching fraction of BF(B+ --> omega l+ nu) = (1.35 +/- 0.21 +/- 0.11) x 10(-4), where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. We also present measurements of the partial branching fractions in three bins of q2, the invariant-mass squared of the lepton-neutrino system, and we compare them to theoretical predictions of the form factors.

The corresponding lowest-order contribution to the hadronic vacuum polarization term in the muon magnetic anomaly is found to be a_mu^{KK, LO}=(22.93 +- 0.18_{stat} +- 0.22_{syst}) * 10^{-10}. The charged kaon form factor is extracted and compared to previous results. Its magnitude at large energy significantly exceeds the asymptotic QCD prediction, while the measured slope is consistent with the prediction.

The drift chamber and Cherenkov detector provide clean samples of identified $π^\pm$, $K^\pm$ and $p\bar{p}$ over a wide range of momenta. Since the center-of-mass energy is below the threshold to produce a $B\bar{B}$ pair, with $B$ a bottom-quark meson, these data represent a pure $e^+e^- \rightarrow q\bar{q}$ sample with four quark flavors, and are used to test QCD predictions and hadronization models. Combined with measurements at other energies, in particular at the $Z^0$ resonance, they also provide precise constraints on the scaling properties of the hadronization process over a wide energy range.

Measurement of an Excess of B -> D(*) Tau Nu Decays and Implications for Charged Higgs Bosons

Based on the full BaBar data sample, we report improved measurements of the ratios R(D(*)) = B(B -> D(*) Tau Nu)/B(B -> D(*) l Nu), where l is either e or mu. These ratios are sensitive to new physics contributions in the form of a charged Higgs boson. We measure R(D) = 0.440 +- 0.058 +- 0.042 and R(D*) = 0.332 +- 0.024 +- 0.018, which exceed the Standard Model expectations by 2.0 sigma and 2.7 sigma, respectively. Taken together, our results disagree with these expectations at the 3.4 sigma level. This excess cannot be explained by a charged Higgs boson in the type II two-Higgs-doublet model. Kinematic distributions presented here exclude large portions of the more general type III two-Higgs-doublet model, but there are solutions within this model compatible with the results.

We present a search for chargino-neutralino associated production using like electric charge dilepton events collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron in proton-antiproton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$ TeV. One lepton is identified as the hadronic decay of a tau lepton, while the other is an electron or muon. In data corresponding to 6.0 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, we obtain good agreement with standard model predictions, and set limits on the chargino-neutralino production cross section for simplified gravity- and gauge-mediated models. As an example, assuming that the chargino and neutralino decays to taus dominate, in the simplified gauge-mediated model we exclude cross sections greater than 300 fb at 95% credibility level for chargino and neutralino masses of 225 \gevcc. This analysis is the first to extend the LHC searches for electroweak supersymmetric production of gauginos to high $\tanβ$ and slepton next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle scenarios.

We present a combination of searches for the standard model Higgs boson using the full CDF Run II data set, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9.45--10.0 fb$^{-1}$ collected from $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV $p{\bar{p}}$ collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron. The searches consider Higgs boson production from gluon-gluon fusion, vector-boson fusion, and associated production with either a $W$ or $Z$ boson or a $t{\bar{t}}$ pair. Depending on the production mode, Higgs boson decays to $W^+W^-$, $ZZ$, $b{\bar{b}}$, $τ^+τ^-$, and $γγ$ are examined. We search for a Higgs boson with masses ($m_H$) in the range 90--200 GeV/$c^2$. In the absence of a signal, we expect based on combined search sensitivity to exclude at the 95% credibility level the mass regions $90<m_H<94$ GeV/$c^2$, $96<m_H<106$ GeV/$c^2$, and $153<m_H<175$ GeV/$c^2$. The observed exclusion regions are $90<m_H<102$ GeV/$c^2$ and $149<m_H<172$ GeV/$c^2$. A moderate excess of signal-like events relative to the background expectation at the level of 2.0 standard deviations is present in the data for the $m_H=125$ GeV/$c^2$ search hypothesis. We also present interpretations of the data within the context of a fermiophobic model and an alternative standard model incorporating a fourth generation of fermions. Finally, for the hypothesis of a new particle with mass 125 GeV/$c^2$, we constrain the coupling strengths of the new particle to $W^\pm$ bosons, $Z$ bosons, and fermions.

We describe a measurement of the time-integrated luminosity of the data collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at the Upsilon(4S), Upsilon(3S) and Upsilon(2S) resonances and in a continuum region below each resonance. We measure the time-integrated luminosity by counting e+e- --> e+e- and (for the Upsilon(4S) only) e+e- --> mu+mu- candidate events, allowing additional photons in the final state. We use data-corrected simulation to determine the cross sections and reconstruction efficiencies for these processes, as well as the major backgrounds. Due to the large cross sections of e+e- --> e+e- and e+e- --> mu+mu-, the statistical uncertainties of the measurement are substantially smaller than the systematic uncertainties. The dominant systematic uncertainties are due to observed differences between data and simulation, as well as uncertainties on the cross sections. For data collected on the Upsilon(3S) and Upsilon(2S) resonances, an additional uncertainty arises due to Upsilon --> e+e-X background. For data collected off the Upsilon resonances, we estimate an additional uncertainty due to time-dependent efficiency variations, which can affect the short off-resonance runs. The relative uncertainties on the luminosities of the on-resonance (off-resonance) samples are 0.43% (0.43%) for the Upsilon(4S), 0.58% (0.72%) for the Upsilon(3S), and 0.68% (0.88%) for the Upsilon(2S).

We report a search for CP violation in the decay modes $D^{\pm} \to K^0_{\scriptscriptstyle S} K^\pm$, $D_s^{\pm} \to K^0_{\scriptscriptstyle S} K^\pm$, and $D_s^{\pm}\to K^0_{\scriptscriptstyle S} π^\pm$ using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $469\,{\,fb}^{-1}$ collected with the {\slshape B\kern-0.1em{\smaller A}\kern-0.1em B\kern-0.1em{\smaller A\kern-0.2em R}} detector at the PEP-II asymmetric energy $e^+e^-$ storage rings. The decay rate CP asymmetries, $A_{CP}$, are determined to be $(+0.13 \pm 0.36 \stat \pm 0.25 \syst)%$, $(-0.05 \pm 0.23 \stat \pm 0.24 \syst)%$, and $(+0.6 \pm 2.0 \stat \pm 0.3 \syst)%$, respectively. These measurements are consistent with zero, and also with the standard model prediction ($(-0.332 \pm 0.006)%$ for the $D^{\pm} \to K^0_{\scriptscriptstyle S} K^\pm$ and $D_s^{\pm} \to K^0_{\scriptscriptstyle S} K^\pm$ modes, and $(+0.332 \pm 0.006)%$ for the $D_s^{\pm}\to K^0_{\scriptscriptstyle S} π^\pm$ mode). They are the most precise determinations to date.

Search for a Low-Mass Scalar Higgs Boson Decaying to a Tau Pair in Single-Photon Decays of Upsilon(1S)

We search for a low-mass scalar CP-odd Higgs boson, A0, produced in the radiative decay of the Upsilon resonance and decaying into a tau+tau- pair: Upsilon(1S)->gamma A0. Our measurements improve the constraints on the parameters of the Next-to-Minimal-Supersymmetric Standard Model and similar theories with low-mass scalar degrees of freedom.

The lifetimes of the CP-even, Cabibbo-suppressed modes K-K+ and pi-pi+ are compared to that of the CP-mixed mode K-+pi+- in order to measure yCP and DeltaY. We obtain yCP = [0.72 +- 0.18 (stat) +- 0.12 (syst)]% and DeltaY = [0.09 +- 0.26 (stat) +- 0.06 (syst)]%, where DeltaY constrains possible CP violation. The yCP result excludes the null mixing hypothesis at 3.3 sigma significance. This analysis is based on an integrated luminosity of 468 fb-1 collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.

We do not observe a significant signal for any channel, and calculate 90% confidence-level upper limits on the products of branching fractions and two-photon widths Gamma(X -> gamma gamma)BR(X -> eta_c pi+ pi-): 15.7 eV for chi_{c2}(1P), 133 eV for eta_c(2S), 11.1 eV for X(3872) (assuming it to be a spin-2 state), 16 eV for X(3915) (assuming it to be a spin-2 state), and 19 eV for chi_{c2}(2P). We also report upper limits on the ratios of branching fractions BR(eta_c(2S) -> eta_c pi+ pi-)/BR(eta_c(2S)-> K_S^0 K+ pi-) < 10.0 and BR(chi_{c2}(1P) -> eta_c pi+ pi-)/BR(chi_{c2}(1P)-> K_S^0 K+ pi-) <32.9 at the 90% confidence level.

The four-body modes are enhanced compared to the three- and the five-body modes. In the three-body modes, the M(p pbar) and M(D(*)0 p) invariant mass distributions show enhancements near threshold values. In the four-body mode B0bar to D+ p pbar pi-, the M(p pi-) distribution shows a narrow structure of unknown origin near 1.5 GeV/c^2. The distributions for the five-body modes, in contrast to the others, are similar to the expectations from uniform phase-space predictions.

The data sample analyzed corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 470.5 {\sl B {-0.4em} {\small\sl A} {-0.37em} \sl B {-0.4em} {\small\sl A {-0.02em}R}} detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy $e^{+} e^{-}$ collider at SLAC. We place an upper limit on the branching fraction for the decay of a $D^0$ meson to two photons, ${B}(D^0 \rightarrow γγ) < 2.2 \times 10^{-6}$, at 90% confidence level, and find ${B}(D^0 \rightarrow π^0 π^0) = (8.4 \pm 0.1 \pm 0.4 \pm 0.3) \times 10^{-4}$.

We also provide improved measurements of the Upsilon(2S) - Upsilon(1S) and Upsilon(3S) - Upsilon(1S) mass differences, 562.170+/-0.007(stat.)+/-0.088(syst.) MeV/c^2 and 893.813+/-0.015(stat.)+/-0.107(syst.) MeV/c^2 respectively.

We employ a matrix-based method using pseudo-Karhunen-Loeve eigenmodes, producing uncorrelated minimum-variance measurements in 22 k-bands of both the clustering power and its anisotropy due to redshift-space distor…

We measure the large-scale real-space power spectrum P(k) using a sample of 205,443 galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, covering 2417 square degrees with mean redshift z~0.1. We employ a matrix-based method using pseudo-Karhunen-Loeve eigenmodes, producing uncorrelated minimum-variance measurements in 22 k-bands of both the clustering power and its anisotropy due to redshift-space distortions, with narrow and well-behaved window functions in the range 0.02 h/Mpc < k < 0.3h/Mpc. We pay particular attention to modeling, quantifying and correcting for potential systematic errors, nonlinear redshift distortions and the artificial red-tilt caused by luminosity-dependent bias. Our final result is a measurement of the real-space matter power spectrum P(k) up to an unknown overall multiplicative bias factor. Our calculations suggest that this bias factor is independent of scale to better than a few percent for k<0.1h/Mpc, thereby making our results useful for precision measurements of cosmological parameters in conjunction with data from other experiments such as the WMAP satellite. As a simple characterization of the data, our measurements are well fit by a flat scale-invariant adiabatic cosmological model with h Omega_m =0.201+/- 0.017 and L* galaxy sigma_8=0.89 +/- 0.02 when fixing the baryon fraction Omega_b/Omega_m=0.17 and the Hubble parameter h=0.72; cosmological interpretation is given in a companion paper.
