The off-shell pion electromagnetic form factors are explored with corresponding off-shell light-front wave functions modeled by constituent quark and anti-quark. We apply the Mandelstam approach for the microscopic computation of the form factors relating the model parameters with the pion decay constant and charge radius. Analyzing the existing data on the cross-sections for the Sullivan process, $^1$H$(e,e',π^+)n$, we extract the off-shell pion form factor using the relation derived from the generalized Ward-Takahashi identity for the pion electromagnetic current. They are compared with our previous results from exactly solvable manifestly covariant model of a (3+1)-dimensional fermion field theory. We find that the adopted constituent quark model reproduces the extracted off-shell form factor $F_1(Q^2,t)$ from the experimental data within a few percent difference and matches well with our previous theoretical simulation which exhibits a variation of about 10 % for the extracted off-shell pion form factor g(Q^2,t). We also identify the pion valence parton distribution function (PDF) and transverse momentum distribution (TMD) in terms of the light-front wave function and discuss their off-shell properties.

The Light-Front Field Theory~(LFFT), introduced by Paul Dirac in 1949, is an alternative approach to solve some of the problems that arise in quantum field theory. The LFFT is similar to the Equal Time Quantum Field Theory~(EQT), however, some particularities are not, such as the loss of covariance in the light-front. Pion electromagnetic form factor is studied in this work at lower and higher momentum transfer regions to explore the constituent quark models and the differences among these and other models. The electromagnetic current is calculated with both the ``plus'' and ``minus'' components in the light-front approach. The results are compared with other models, as well as with experimental data.

The spin-1 particles is an admirable two quarks bound state system to understand electromagnetic properties from hadronic states. These systems are generally relativistic, and therefore, need an approach using quantum field theory. In the present work, we will use both the quantum field theory at the instant form, as well, quantum field theory on the light-front~(LFQFT). In general, it is used to calculate the electromagnetic properties of spin-1 vector particles in the LFQFT formalism, with the plus component of the electromagnetic current. In the present work, we used, in addition to the plus component of the electromagnetic current; the minus component of the current, and we use that components o the current, to extract the covariant form factors; showing that to have an equivalence between these we need to add non-valence terms to the electromagnetic current, in order to restore the covariance, and obtain exactly the same results when using the instant form quantum field theory.

A general framework is developed for the pion Bethe-Salpeter amplitude based on the Kallen-Lehmann representation of the dressed quarks with an ansatz for the pseudo-scalar $π-q\bar q$ vertex fulfilling the axial Ward-Takahashi identity. The Nakanishi weight functions are derived for the scalar amplitudes associated with the decomposition of the pion Bethe-Salpeter amplitude in different operator bases in the Dirac spinor space in terms of the involved spectral densities. The approach is applied to an analytical model of the pion Bethe-Salpeter amplitude, which is combined with Landau gauge lattice QCD results for the quark running mass at space-like momentum. From the Nakanishi integral representation several pion observables were calculated, such as the decay constant, the spin decomposition of the valence probabilities, longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions from the valence component of the light-front wave function.

The running quark mass function $M (p^2)$, used here, reproduces well the results of Lattice QCD calculations. The analytical form of the running quark mass function contains a single time-like pole, which implies in time-like poles of the dressed quark propagator. Such a form allows to build the weight functions, $G_i(γ,z)$, for the Nakanishi integral representation of each scalar function, $χ_{i}(k,p)$, appearing in the decomposition of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude in terms of Dirac operators, Such scalar amplitudes can also be used to obtain the pion valence light-front wave function.

In the present work we study the effect of the scalar spin coupling of constituent quarks on the nucleon electroweak properties by introducing a valence light-front wave function with two momentum scales. By comparing the results obtained with the one scale and two scale wave function models, we have found that the last one has shown a reasonable description of the static observables and $μ_pG_{Ep}/G_{Mp}$ ratio in which the position of the zero appears around 10~[GeV/c]$^2$ or for higher squared momentum transfers. We have also shown results for the axial-vector coupling $g_{A}$ and the nucleon axial-vector form factor. The best result for $g_A$ was obtained when the parameters of the nucleon wave function model were such that the experimental value of the neutron magnetic moment was described.

The electromagnetic structure of the baryons is modified in the nuclear medium. The modifications can be inferred from the comparison between the electromagnetic form factors in medium with the respective form factor in vacuum. Of particular interest is the ratio between the electric and magnetic form factors in medium ($G_E^*/G_M^*$) and vacuum ($G_E/G_M$) of the octet baryon. The deviation of the double ratios ($G_E^*/G_M^*)/(G_E/G_M)$ from unity measures the impact of the medium modification of the electromagnetic structure in a nuclear medium. Measurements of the double ratios $(G_E^*/G_M^*)/(G_E/G_M)$ for different nuclear densities may become available in a near future using the polarization-transfer method developed at Jefferson Lab. We present estimates of the double ratios of octet baryons based on a covariant constituent quark model, which takes into account pion cloud excitations of the baryon cores, for different nuclear densities. Our results manifest different features, namely, enhancement or quenching depending on the baryon flavor content.

We investigate the pion electromagnetic half off-shell form factors, which parametrize the matrix element of the charged pion electromagnetic current with one leg off-mass-shell and the other leg on-mass-shell, using an exactly solvable manifestly covariant model of a $(3+1)$ dimensional fermion field theory. The model provides a 3D imaging of the two off-shell pion form factors $F_1$ and $F_2$ as a function of $(Q^2,t)$, which are related to each other satisfying the Ward-Takahashi identity. The normalization of the renormalized charge form factor $F_1$ is fixed by $F_1(Q^2=0, t=m^2_π)=1$ while the other form factor $F_2$ vanishes, i.e. $F_2(Q^2, t=m^2_π)=0$ for any value of $Q^2$ due to the time-reversal invariance of the strong interaction. We define the new form factor $g(Q^2,t)=F_2(Q^2,t)/(t-m^2_π)$ and find that $g(Q^2,t)$ can be measurable in the on-mass-shell limit. In particular, $g(Q^2=0, t=m^2_π)$ is related with the pion charge radius. We also compare our form factors with the data extracted from the pion electroproduction reaction for both the off-shell region ($t<0$) and the on-shell limit ($t \rightarrow m_π^2$).

Understanding the origin and dynamics of hadron structure and in turn that of atomic nuclei is a central goal of nuclear physics. This challenge entails the questions of how does the roughly 1 GeV mass-scale that characterizes atomic nuclei appear; why does it have the observed value; and, enigmatically, why are the composite Nambu-Goldstone (NG) bosons in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) abnormally light in comparison? In this perspective, we provide an analysis of the mass budget of the pion and proton in QCD; discuss the special role of the kaon, which lies near the boundary between dominance of strong and Higgs mass-generation mechanisms; and explain the need for a coherent effort in QCD phenomenology and continuum calculations, in exa-scale computing as provided by lattice QCD, and in experiments to make progress in understanding the origins of hadron masses and the distribution of that mass within them. We compare the unique capabilities foreseen at the electron-ion collider (EIC) with those at the hadron-electron ring accelerator (HERA), the only previous electron-proton collider; and describe five key experimental measurements, enabled by the EIC and aimed at delivering fundamental insights that will generate concrete answers to the questions of how mass and structure arise in the pion and kaon, the Standard Model's NG modes, whose surprisingly low mass is critical to the evolution of our Universe.

The ratios of the baryon electric ($G_E$) to magnetic ($G_M$) form factors, $G_E/G_M$, can provide us with important information on the structure of baryons in vacuum as demonstrated in recent studies for the proton and neutron systems. It has been argued that the corresponding in-medium ratios, $G_E^\ast/G_M^\ast$, can also provide useful information on the electromagnetic structure of baryons in a nuclear medium. Although the ratios may not be measured directly in experiments except for the proton at present, the double ratios $(G_E^\ast/G_M^\ast)/(G_E/G_M)$ can be directly related to the polarization-transfer measurements of bound baryons. In the present work we estimate, for the first time, the double ratios $(G_E^\ast/G_M^\ast)/(G_E/G_M)$ for all the members of octet baryons in symmetric nuclear matter in the range $Q^2=0$--3 GeV$^2$, where $Q^2=- q^2$ with $q$ being the four-momentum transfer.

The electromagnetic form factors of a composite vector particle within the light-front formulation of the Mandelstam formula is investigated. In order to extract the form factors from the matrix elements of the plus component of the current in the Drell-Yan frame, where the momentum transfer is chosen such that $q^+=q^0+q^3=0$, one has in principle the freedom to choose between different linear combinations of matrix elements of the current operator. The different prescriptions to calculate the electromagnetic form factors, $G_0,G_1$ and $G_2$, i.e., charge form factor, magnetic and quadrupole respectively. If the covariance is respected, all prescriptions give the same results, misfortune, is not the situation, the light-front approach produce different results, which depend of the prescriptions as utilized to extract the electromagnetic form factors in the case of the spin-1 particles. The main differences of the prescriptions appear because of the light-front matrix elements of the electromagnetic current are contaminated by the zero-modes contributions to the same with the plus component of the matrix elements of the electromagnetic current. However, the Inna Grach prescription is immune to the zero-modes contributions to the electromagnetic current, then the electromagnetic form factors extracted with that prescriptions do not have zero-modes contribution and give the same result compared with the instant form quantum field theory. Another's prescriptions with the light-front approach are contaminated by the zero-modes contributions to the matrix elements of the electromagnetic current with the plus component of the current.

The Dyson-Schwinger quark equation is solved for the quark-gluon vertex using the most recent lattice data available in the Landau gauge for the quark, gluon and ghost propagators, the full set of longitudinal tensor structures in the Ball-Chiu vertex, taking into account a recently derived normalisation for a quark-ghost kernel form factors and the gluon contribution for the tree level quark-gluon vertex identified on a recent study of the lattice soft gluon limit. A solution for the inverse problem is computed after the Tikhonov linear regularisation of the integral equation, that implies solving a modified Dyson-Schwinger equation. We get longitudinal form factors that are strongly enhanced at the infrared region, deviate significantly from the tree level results for quark and gluon momentum below 2 GeV and at higher momentum approach their perturbative values. The computed quark-gluon vertex favours kinematical configurations where the quark momentum $p$ and the gluon momentum $q$ are small and parallel. Further, the quark-gluon vertex is dominated by the form factors associated to the tree level vertex $γ_μ$ and to the operator $2 \, p_μ+ q_μ$. The higher rank tensor structures provide small contributions to the vertex.

The soft gluon limit of the longitudinal part of the quark-gluon vertex is studied by resorting to non-perturbative approaches to Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). Based on a Slavnov-Taylor identity (STI), the longitudinal form factors is expressed in terms of the quark-ghost kernel, the quark self energy and the quark wave function. An exact relation between the non-vanishing longitudinal form factors is derived for the soft gluon limit and explored to understand the behaviour of the vertex. Within a Ball-Chiu vertex, the form factor $λ_1$ was analysed using recent lattice simulations for full QCD for the soft gluon limit. The lattice data shows that the gluon propagator resumes the momentum dependence of such component of the vertex. This connection is understood via a fully dressed one-loop Bethe-Salpeter equation. The behaviour of the remaining longitudinal form factors $λ_2(p^2)$ and $λ_3(p^2)$ is investigated combining both the information of lattice simulations and the derived relations based on the STI.

Due to the angular condition in the light-front dynamics (LFD), the extraction of the electromagnetic form factors for spin-1 particles can be uniquely determined taking into account implicitly non-valence and/or the zero-mode contributions to the matrix elements of the electromagnetic current. No matter which matrix elements of the electromagnetic current is used to extract the electromagnetic form factors, the same unique result is obtained. As physical observables, the electromagnetic form factors obtained from matrix elements of the current in LFD must be equal to those obtained in the instant form calculations. Recently, the Babar collaboration \cite{Aubert2008} has analyzed the reaction $e^+ e^-\rightarrow ρ^+ + ρ^-$ at $\sqrt{s}=10.58 GeV$ to measure the cross section as well as the ratios of the helicity amplitudes $F_{λ'λ}$. We present our recent analysis of the Babar data for the rho meson considering the angular condition in LFD to put a stringent test on the onset of asymptotic perturbative QCD and predict the energy regime where the subleading contributions are still considerable.

In order to consistently incorporate the constituent up and antistrange quarks of the kaon immersed in symmetric nuclear matter, we use the Quark-Meson Coupling (QMC) model, which has been widely applied to various hadronic and nuclear phenomena in a nuclear medium with success. We predict the in-medium modification of the kaon EMFF in symmetric nuclear matter. It is found that, after a fine tuning of the regulator mass, i.e. $m_R = 0.600$ GeV, the model is suitable to fit the available experimental data in vaccum within the theoretical uncertainties, and based on this we predict the in-medium modification of the EMFF.

We study the nucleon electromagnetic (EM) form factors in symmetric nuclear matter as well as in vacuum within a light-front approach using the in-medium inputs calculated by the quark-meson coupling model. The same in-medium quark properties are used as those used for the study of in-medium pion properties. The zero of the proton EM form factor ratio in vacuum, the electric to magnetic form factor ratio $μ_p G_{Ep}(Q^2)/G_{Mp}(Q^2)$ ($Q^2 = -q^2 > 0$ with $q$ being the four-momentum transfer), is determined including the latest experimental data by implementing a hard constituent quark component in the nucleon wave function. A reasonable fit is achieved for the ratio $μ_pG_{Ep}(Q^2)/G_{Mp}(Q^2)$ in vacuum, and we predict that the $Q_0^2$ value to cross the zero of the ratio to be about 15 GeV$^2$. In addition the double ratio data of the proton EM form factors in $^4$He and H nuclei, $[G^{^4{\rm He}}_{Ep}(Q^2)/G^{^4{\rm He}}_{Mp}(Q^2)]/[G^{^1{\rm H}}_{Ep}(Q^2)/G^{^1{\rm H}}_{Mp}(Q^2)]$, extracted by the polarized ($\vec{e}, e' \vec{p}$) scattering experiment on $^4$He at JLab, are well described. We also predict that the $Q_0^2$ value satisfying $μ_pG_{Ep}(Q_0^2)/G_{Mp}(Q_0^2) = 0$ in symmetric nuclear matter, shifts to a smaller value as increasing nuclear matter density, which reflects the facts that the faster falloff of $G_{Ep}(Q^2)$ as increasing $Q^2$ and the increase of the proton mean-square charge radius. Furthermore, we calculate the neutron EM form factor double ratio in symmetric nuclear matter for $0.1 < Q^2 < 1.0$ GeV$^2$. The result shows that the neutron double ratio is enhanced relative to that in vacuum, while for the proton it is quenched, and agrees with an existing theoretical prediction.

The priori to have a calculation covariant need to get the valence term of the eletromagnetic form factor. We use the usual formalism in quantum field theory (QFT) and light-front quantum field theory (LFQFT) in order to test the properties of form factor in nonperturbative QCD. In this particular case, the form factor can be obtained using the pion Light-Front (LF) wave function including self-energy from Lattice-QCD. Specifically, these calculations was performed in LF formalism. We consider a quark-antiquark vertex model having a quark self-energy. Also we can use other models to compare the pion electromagnetic form factor with different wave function and to observe the degree of agreement between them.

The kaon PDFs calculated in the two different conditions clearly show asymmetric behaviour due to the flavor SU(3)-symmetry breaking implemented by the quark masses.

We also check the invariance of these observables in other frames, whereby both the valance and the non-valence contributions have to be taken into account, and study the sensitivity of the electromagnetic form factors and charge radius to the model's parameters; namely, the quark masses, $m_u=m_d$, $m_{\bar s}$, and the regulator mass, $m_R$. The electromagnetic current~$J^+$ for spin-1, is used here to extract the electromagnetic form-factors of a light-front constituent quark model. The charge ($G_0$), magnetic ($G_1$) and quadrupole $G_2$ form factors are calculated using different prescriptions known in the literature, for the combinations of the four independent matrix elements of the current between the polarisations states in the Drell-Yan frame. However, the results for some prescriptions relying only on the valence contribution breaks the rotational symmetry as they violate the angular condition. In the present work, we use some relations between the matrix elements of the electromagnetic current in order to eliminate the breaking of the rotational symmetry, by computing the zero-mode contributions to matrix elements resorting only to the valence ones.

We study ground and radial excitations of flavor singlet and flavored pseudoscalar mesons within the framework of the rainbow-ladder truncation using an infrared massive and finite interaction in agreement with recent results for the gluon-dressing function from lattice QCD and Dyson-Schwinger equations. Whereas the ground-state masses and decay constants of the light mesons as well as charmonia are well described, we confirm previous observations that this truncation is inadequate to provide realistic predictions for the spectrum of excited and exotic states. Moreover, we find a complex conjugate pair of eigenvalues for the excited $D_{(s)}$ mesons, which indicates a non-Hermiticity of the interaction kernel in the case of heavy-light systems and the present truncation. Nevertheless, limiting ourselves to the leading contributions of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes, we find a reasonable description of the charmed ground states and their respective decay constants.

The focus of this exercise in a simple model is on a unified description of all observables with one singly parametrized light-front wave function to detect possible discrepancies in experimental data, in particular the contentious large momentum-squared data on the transition factor as reported by BaBar and Belle. We investigate the dressed quark-gluon vertex combining two established non-perturbative approaches to QCD: the Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSE) for the quark propagator and lattice-regularized simulations for the quark, gluon and ghost propagators. The vertex is modeled using a generalized Ball-Chiu ansatz parameterized by a single form factor $\tilde X_0$ which effectively represents the quark-ghost scattering kernel. The solution space of the DSE inversion for $\tilde X_0$ is highly degenerate, which can be dealt with by a numerical regularization scheme. We consider two possibilities: (i) linear regularization and (ii) the Maximum Entropy Method. These two numerical approaches yield compatible $\tilde X_0$ functions for the range of momenta where lattice data is available and feature a strong enhancement of the generalized Ball-Chiu vertex for momenta below 1 GeV. Our ansatz for the quark-gluon vertex is then used to solve the quark DSE which yields a mass function in good agreement with lattice simulations and thus provides adequate dynamical chiral symmetry breaking.

We study consistently the pion's static observables and the elastic and γ*γ-> π^0 transition form factors within a light-front model. Consistency requires that all calculations are performed within a given model with the same and single adjusted length or mass-scale parameter of the associated pion bound-state wave function. Our results agree well with all extent data including recent Belle data on the γ*γ-> π^0 form factor at large q^2, yet the BaBar data on this transition form factor resists a sensible comparison. We relax the initial constraint on the bound-state wave function and show the BaBar data can partially be accommodated. This, however, comes at the cost of a hard elastic form factor not in agreement with experiment. Moreover, the pion charge radius is about 40% smaller than its experimentally determined value. It is argued that a decreasing charge radius produces an ever harder form factor with a bound-state amplitude difficultly reconcilable with soft QCD. We also discuss why vector dominance type models for the photon-quark vertex, based on analyticity and crossing symmetry, are unlikely to reproduce the litigious transition form factor data.

Such observables are determined by means of a theoretical model that takes into account the constituent quark and antiquark of the pion within the formalism of light-front field theory. In particular, we consider a nonsymmetrical vertex in this model, with which we calculate the electromagnetic form factor of the pion in an optimized way, so that we obtain a value closer to the experimental charge radius of the pion. The theoretical calculations are also compared with the most recent experimental data involving the pion electromagnetic form factor and the results show very good agreement.

We study the behavior of these observables under variation of the quark masses and find an optimized parameter set, m_u=m_d, m_s and m_R, for which they are in sensibly better agreement with experiment than in a previous analysis; a feature also observed for the elastic form factors, in particular at small q^2. The issue of the contribution of zero-modes to the light-front projection of the electromagnetic current of phenomenological models of vector particles vertices is addressed in the Drell-Yan frame. Our analytical model of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude of a spin-1 fermion-antifermion composite state gives a physically motivated light-front wave function symmetric by the exchange of the fermion and antifermion, as in the $ρ$-meson case. We found that among the four independent matrix elements of the plus component in the light-front helicity basis only the $0\to 0$ one carries zero mode contributions. Our derivation generalizes to symmetric models, important for applications, the above conclusion found for a simplified non-symmetrical form of the spin-1 Bethe-Salpeter amplitude with photon-fermion point-like coupling and also for a smeared fermion-photon vertex model.

The naive derivation of the plus component of the current in the Drell-Yan-West frame within an analytical and covariant model of the vertex leads to the violation of the rotational symmetry. Computing the form-factors in a quasi Drell-Yan-West frame $q^+\rightarrow 0$, we were able to separate out in an analytical form the contributions from Z-diagrams or zero modes using the instant-form cartesian polarization basis.

Abstract:
After a brief review of B_s^0 - \bar B_s^0 oscillations, we discuss the weak decays B_s^0 -> J/ψφand B_s^0 -> J/ψf_0(980) and the ratio R_{f_0/φ} of their decay rates in the light of recent measurements by the LHCb, D0 and CDF Collaborations. We point out that the experimental values for R_{f_0/φ} impose tight limits on new physics contributions to both decay channels.

In this work, within a light-front framework, we calculate electroweak transition form factor for the semileptonic decay of $D$ mesons into a pion or a kaon. The model results underestimate in both cases the new data of CLEO for the larger momentum transfers accessible in the experiment. We discuss possible reasons for that in order to improve the model.

We have applied the light-front formalism to calculate the electromagnetic form factors for the pion and the kaon from two models at low and high energies in order to explore the differences between such models. We study the electroweak properties of pseudo-scalar mesons in the light and heavy-light sectors. In particular, we address the electromagnetic form factors and decay constants of the pion, kaon and D mesons. The structure of composite systems are given by the Bethe-Salpeter (BS) amplitude of a meson formed by a confined pair of constituent quark and antiquark, which in our work is written in terms of Pauli-Villars regulators. The analytical structure contains single poles in the complex momentum space. The BS amplitude takes into account poles due to the regulator parameters, while the quark-antiquark cut is avoided, implying in confined quarks with the property that the sum of the constituents masses can be larger than the mass of the meson. The one-loop expressions of the electroweak transition amplitudes are conveniently written in terms of light-front momentum. Technically, we introduce a Wick-rotation of he minus component of the momentum (k-minus) in the one-loop amplitudes allowing to avoid the cuts in the complex plane of this momentum variable without crossing them. This is particularly useful as we can study the electroweak properties with several models of the BS amplitude with different powers of Pauli-Villars regulators. The possibility to change the power of the BS amplitude is interesting in order to test the asymptotic behavior of the electromagnetic form factors searching for a suitable form that incorporates the expected QCD decaying power-law form. The results are compared with others models in the literature and with the experimental data.
