A study of prompt charm-hadron pair production in proton-lead collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}= 8.16$ TeV is performed using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 30 nb${}^{-1}$, collected with the LHCb experiment. Production cross-sections for different pairs of charm hadrons are measured and kinematic correlations between the two charm hadrons are investigated. This is the first measurement of associated production of two charm hadrons in proton-lead collisions. The results confirm the predicted enhancement of double parton scattering production in proton-lead collisions compared to the single parton scattering production.

To achieve high data rates defined in 5G, the use of millimeter-waves and massive-MIMO are indispensable. To benefit from these technologies, an accurate estimation of the channel parameters is crucial. We propose a novel two-stage algorithm for channel parameters estimation. In the first stage, coarse estimation is accomplished by applying parameter estimation via interpolation based on DFT grid (PREIDG) with a fixed look-up table (LUT), while the second stage refines the estimates by means of the space-alternating generalized expectation maximization (SAGE) algorithm. The two-stage algorithm uses discrete Fourier transform beamforming vectors which are efficiently implemented by a Butler matrix in the analog domain. We found that this methodology improves the estimates compared to the auxiliary beam pair (ABP) method. The two-stage algorithm shows efficient performance in the low signal to noise ratio regime for the channel parameters i.e. angles of departure, complex path gains and delays of the multipaths. Finally, we derived the Cramér-Rao lower bound (CRLB) to assess the performance of our two-stage estimation algorithm.

The first observation of the decay $B^0 \rightarrow D^0 \overline{D}{}^0 K^+ π^-$ is reported using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment in 2011, 2012 and 2016. The measurement is performed in the full kinematically allowed range of the decay outside of the $D^{*-}$ region. The ratio of the branching fraction relative to that of the control channel $B^0 \rightarrow D^{*-} D^0 K^+$ is measured to be $\mathcal{R} = (14.2 \pm 1.1 \pm 1.0)\%$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The absolute branching fraction of $B^0 \rightarrow D^0 \overline{D}{}^0 K^+ π^-$ decays is thus determined to be $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \rightarrow D^0 \overline{D}{}^0 K^+ π^-) = (3.50 \pm 0.27 \pm 0.26 \pm 0.30) \times 10^{-4}$, where the third uncertainty is due to the branching fraction of the control channel. This decay mode is expected to provide insights to spectroscopy and the charm-loop contributions in rare semileptonic decays.

Searches are performed for a low-mass dimuon resonance, $X$, produced in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.1 fb$^{-1}$ and collected with the LHCb detector. The $X$ bosons can either decay promptly or displaced from the proton-proton collision, where in both cases the requirements placed on the event and the assumptions made about the production mechanisms are kept as minimal as possible. The searches for promptly decaying $X$ bosons explore the mass range from near the dimuon threshold up to 60 GeV, with nonnegligible $X$ widths considered above 20 GeV. The searches for displaced $X \to μ^+μ^-$ decays consider masses up to 3 GeV. None of the searches finds evidence for a signal and 90% confidence-level exclusion limits are placed on the $X \to μ^+μ^-$ cross sections, each with minimal model dependence. In addition, these results are used to place world-leading constraints on GeV-scale bosons in the two-Higgs-doublet and hidden-valley scenarios.

The deviation of the data from nonresonant $J/ψ$-pair production is above five standard deviations in the mass region between $6.2$ and $7.4\mathrm{\,GeV/}c^2$, covering predicted masses of states composed of four charm quarks. The mass and natural width of the narrow $X(6900)$ structure are measured assuming a Breit--Wigner lineshape.

Precise measurements of the ratios of branching fractions with the intermediate $ψ_2(3823)$, $χ_{c1}(3872)$ and $ψ(2S)$ states are reported. The decay of $B^+\rightarrow ψ_2(3823)K^+$ with $ψ_2(3823)\rightarrow Jψπ^+π^-$ is observed for the first time with a significance of 5.1 standard deviations. The mass differences between the $ψ_2(3823)$, $χ_{c1}(3872)$ and $ψ(2S)$ states are measured to be $$ \begin{array}{rcl} m_{χ_{c1(3872)}} - m_{ψ_2(3823)} &= & 47.50 \pm 0.53 \pm 0.13\,\mathrm{MeV/}c^2\,, \\ m_{ψ_2(3823)} - m_{ψ(2S)} &= & 137.98 \pm 0.53 \pm 0.14\,\mathrm{MeV/}c^2\,, \\ m_{χ_{c1}(3872)} - m_{ψ(2S)} &= & 185.49 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.03\,\mathrm{MeV/}c^2\,, \end{array} $$ resulting in the most precise determination of the $χ_{c1}(3782)$ mass. The width of the $ψ_2(3823)$ state is found to be below 5.2MeV at 90\% confidence level. The Breit-Wigner width of the $χ_{c1}(3872)$ state is measured to be $$ Γ^{\mathrm{BW}}_{χ_{c1}(3872)} = 0.96^{+0.19}_{-0.18}\pm0.21 \mathrm{MeV},$$ which is inconsistent with zero by 5.5 standard deviations.

Candidate $χ_{c1}(3872)$ and $ψ(2S)$ mesons from b-hadron decays are selected in the $ J/ψπ^+ π^-$ decay mode. Describing the {\mbox{lineshape}} with a Breit--Wigner function, the mass splitting between the $χ_{c1}(3872)$ and $ψ(2S)$ states, $Δm$, and the width of the $χ_{c1}(3872)$ state, $Γ_{\mathrm{BW}}$, are determined to be \begin{eqnarray*} Δm & = & 185.598 \pm 0.067 \pm 0.068\, \mathrm{MeV} \,, \\ Γ_{\mathrm{BW}} & = & \phantom{00}1.39\phantom{0} \pm 0.24\phantom{0} \pm 0.10\phantom{0} \mathrm{MeV} \,, \end{eqnarray*} where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The Radial Acceleration Relation (RAR) shows a strong correlation between two accelerations associated to galaxy rotation curves. The relation between these accelerations is given by a nonlinear function which depends on an acceleration scale $a_\dagger$. Some have interpreted this as an evidence for a gravity model, such as Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND), which posits a fundamental acceleration scale $a_0$ common to all the galaxies. However, it was later shown, using Bayesian inference, that this seems not to be the case: the $a_0$ credible intervals for individual galaxies were not found to be compatible among themselves. This type of test is a fundamental test for MOND as a theory for gravity, since it directly evaluates its basic assumption and this using the data that most favor MOND: galaxy rotation curves. Here we improve upon the previous analyses by introducing a more robust method to assess the compatibility between the credible intervals, in particular without Gaussian approximations. We directly estimate, using a Monte Carlo simulation, that the existence of a fundamental acceleration is incompatible with the data at more than $5σ$. We also consider quality cuts in order to show that our results are robust against outliers. In conclusion, the new analysis further supports the claim that the acceleration scale found in the RAR is an emergent quantity.

The slice-wise multiplication of two tensors is required in a variety of tensor decompositions (including PARAFAC2 and PARATUCK2) and is encountered in many applications, including the analysis of multidimensional biomedical data (EEG, MEG, etc.) or multi-carrier MIMO systems. In this paper, we propose a new tensor representation that is not based on a slice-wise (matrix) description, but can be represented by a double contraction of two tensors. Such a double contraction of two tensors can be efficiently calculated via generalized unfoldings. It leads to new tensor models of the investigated system that do not depend on the chosen unfolding and reveal the tensor structure of the data model (such that all possible unfoldings can be seen at the same time). As an example, we apply this new concept to the design of new receivers for multi-carrier MIMO systems in wireless communications. In particular, we consider MIMO OFDM systems with and without Khatri-Rao coding. The proposed receivers exploit the channel correlation between adjacent subcarriers, require the same amount of training symbols as traditional OFDM techniques, but have an improved performance in terms of the symbol error rate. Furthermore, we show that the spectral efficiency of the Khatri-Rao coded MIMO-OFDM can be increased by introducing "random coding" such that the "coding matrix" also contains useful information symbols. Considering this transmission technique, we derive a tensor model and two types of receivers for randomly coded MIMO-OFDM systems using the double contraction of two tensors.

Intelligent reflective surface (IRS) is an emergent technology for future wireless communications. It consists of a large 2D array of passive scattering elements that control the electromagnetic properties of radio-frequency waves so that the reflected signals add coherently at the intended receiver or destructively to reduce co-channel interference. The promised gains of IRS-assisted communications depend on the accuracy of the channel state information. In this paper, we propose two novel channel estimation methods for an IRS-assisted multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system. Assuming a structured time-domain pattern of pilots and IRS phase shifts, we show that the received signal follows a parallel factor (PARAFAC) tensor model that can be exploited to estimate the involved communication channels in closed-form or iteratively. Numerical results corroborate the effectiveness of the proposed channel estimation methods and highlight the involved tradeoffs.

To achieve a reliable communication with short data blocks, we propose a novel decoding strategy for Kronecker-structured constant modulus signals that provides low bit error ratios (BERs) especially in the low energy per bit to noise power spectral density ratio $(E_b/N_0)$. The encoder exploits the fact that any M-PSK constellation can be factorized as Kronecker products of lower or equal order PSK constellation sets. A construction of two types of schemes is first derived. For such Kronecker-structured schemes, a conceptually simple decoding algorithm is proposed, referred to as Kronecker-RoD (rank-one detector). The decoder is based on a rank-one approximation of the "tensorized" received data block, has a built-in noise rejection capability and a smaller implementation complexity than state-of-the-art detectors. Compared with convolutional codes with hard and soft Viterbi decoding, Kronecker-RoD outperforms the latter in BER performance at same spectral efficiency.

New-generation wireless communication systems will employ large-scale antenna arrays to satisfy the increasing capacity demand. This massive scenario brings new challenges to the channel equalization problem due to the increased signal processing complexity. We present a novel low-rank tensor equalizer to tackle the high computational demands of the classical linear approach. Specifically, we propose a method to design a canonical polyadic tensor filter to minimize the mean square error criterion. Our simulation results indicate that the proposed equalizer needs fewer calculations and is more robust to short training sequences than the benchmark.

We design a self-exploratory reinforcement learning (RL) framework, based on the Q-learning algorithm, that enables the base station (BS) to choose a suitable modulation and coding scheme (MCS) that maximizes the spectral efficiency while maintaining a low block error rate (BLER). In this framework, the BS chooses the MCS based on the channel quality indicator (CQI) reported by the user equipment (UE). A transmission is made with the chosen MCS and the results of this transmission are converted by the BS into rewards that the BS uses to learn the suitable map** from CQI to MCS. Comparing with a conventional fixed look-up table and the outer loop link adaptation, the proposed framework achieves superior performance in terms of spectral efficiency and BLER.

Our result provide a new class of functions spaces which is larger than previous ones, since we have strict continuous inclusions $\dot{B}_{p,\infty}^{s}\hookrightarrow L^{λ, \infty}\hookrightarrow \mathcal{M}_{p}^λ\hookrightarrow\mathcal{M}_{p, \infty}^λ \nonumber $ as $1<p<λ<\infty$ and $s\in\mathbb{R}$ satisfies $\frac{1}{p}-\frac{s}{n}=\frac{1}λ$. If $dμ$ is concentrated on $\partial\mathbb{R}^n_+$, as a byproduct we get Sobolev-Morrey trace inequality on half-spaces $\mathbb{R}^n_+$ which recovers the well-known Sobolev-trace inequality in $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n_+)$. Based on the application of the Sum-Product algorithm (SPA) over factor graphs, this paper presents a graphical representation of generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) and filter bank multicarrier with offset QAM (FBMC-OQAM). FBMC-OQAM was chosen because it has the advantage of reducing the algorithm's complexity, since it is directly related to the number of possible values assumed by the transmitted data symbols. The receiver algorithm performance is evaluated by the bit error ratio (BER) estimation considering two channel models, additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and flat-fading time-variant (Rayleigh). Likewise, a computational complexity analysis is presented. We propose practical transceiver structures for double-sided massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems. Unlike standard massive MIMO, both transmit and receive sides are equipped with high-dimensional antenna arrays. We leverage the multi-layer filtering architecture and propose novel layered transceiver schemes with practical channel state information requirements to simplify the complexity of our double-sided massive MIMO system. We conduct a comprehensive simulation campaign to investigate the performance of the proposed transceivers under different channel propagation conditions and to identify the most suitable strategy. Our results show that the covariance matrix eigenfilter design at the outer transceiver layer combined with maximum eigenmode transmission precoding/minimum mean square error combining at the inner transceiver layer yields the best achievable sum rate performance for different propagation conditions and multi-user interference levels.

Both the free and interacting cases are considered. For both cases it is confirmed that to the leading order in noncommutative corrections the 2- and 3-point correlation functions have the form that is assumed by some (yet unspecified) dual $CFT$. We also argue that there does not exist a map which connects the commutative model to its non-commutative counterpart, and therefore the conformal behaviour of the noncommutative correlators is a non-trivial result.

This paper explores the flexibility of generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) for achieving the same performance as filter bank multicarrier (FBMC). We present a GFDM configuration where the good spectral containment of FBMC is also achieved through a modification in the GFDM transmission scheme. For evaluating the scheme's performance, we estimate the bit error ratio (BER) under three channel models: i) pure additive Gaussian AWGN; ii) time-invariant frequency-selective; iii) time-variant frequency-selective (doubly dispersive). The spectral containment is measured through the power spectral density. Furthermore, the complementary cumulative distribution function (CCDF) of the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) is also estimated. The Linear GFDM waveform shows identical performance when compared to FBMC in the above test scenarios.

More precisely, inspired at \cite{deAlmeida1} and \cite{Quittner} we introduce a new functional space based in weak-Morrey spaces and we shown existence of positive solutions $u$ to the above problem when inhomogeneous term $f\in\text{weak-}\mathcal{M}_{p}^{n{(ρ-1)}/ρ}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ and potential $V\in \text{week-}\mathcal{M}^{n}_{\ell}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ are sufficiently small in the natural $n/(n-1)<ρ<\infty$. Our theorems recover the range $(n+1)/(n-1)\leq ρ<\infty$ and immediately imply in solvability of the equivalent nonlocal half-Laplacian problem $(-Δ)^{{1}/{2}}u=Vu+b\vert u\vert^{ρ-1}u+ f (x)$ for $f$ and potential $V$ rough than previous ones, in view of strictly inclusions $L^λ\varsubsetneq\mathcal{M}^λ_{p} \varsubsetneq \text{week-}\mathcal{M}^λ_{p}$ for $1<p<λ<\infty$. Also, from Campanato's lemma we conclude that $u\in C^{0,α}_{loc}( \overline{\mathbb{R}^{n+1}_+})$ is locally Hölder continuous, for $f\in\mathcal{M}_{p}^{n{(ρ-1)}/ρ}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ and $V\in \mathcal{M}^{n}_{\ell}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ in Morrey spaces.

In this work, we investigate the possibility that the galaxy rotation curves can be explained in the framework of modified gravity models that introduce a Yukawa term in the gravitational potential. We include dark matter and assume that the fifth-force couples differently to dark matter and to baryons. We aim at constraining the modified gravity parameters $β$ and $λ$, that is, the strength and the range of the Yukawa fifth force, respectively, using a set of 40 galaxy rotation curves data from the SPARC catalogue. We include baryonic gas, disk and bulge components, along with a NFW halo of dark matter. Each galaxy rotation curve is modeled with three free parameters, beside the two global Yukawa parameter. We find that the inclusion of the Yukawa term improves the $χ^2$ from $680.75$ to $536.23$ for $655$ degrees of freedom. As global best-fit we obtain $β= 0.34\pm0.04$ and $λ= 5.61\pm0.91$kpc and a dark matter content on average 20\% smaller than without the Yukawa term. The Bayesian evidence in favor of a NFW profile plus Yukawa term is higher than 8$σ$ with respect to the standard gravity parametrization.

We propose optimising a Kronecker-separable beamforming filter that takes advantage of the bi-dimensional array geometry to reduce computational costs. The Kronecker factors are obtained using two strategies: alternating optimisation, and sub-array minimum mean square error beamforming with Tikhonov regularization. According to the simulation results, the proposed methods are computationally efficient but come with source recovery degradation, which becomes negligible when the sources are sufficiently separated in space.

With the congestion of the sub-6 GHz spectrum, the interest in massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems operating on millimeter wave spectrum grows. In order to reduce the power consumption of such massive MIMO systems, hybrid analog/digital transceivers and application of low-resolution digital-to-analog/analog-to-digital converters have been recently proposed. In this work, we investigate the energy efficiency of quantized hybrid transmitters equipped with a fully/partially-connected phase-shifting network composed of active/passive phase-shifters and compare it to that of quantized digital precoders. We introduce a quantized single-user MIMO system model based on an additive quantization noise approximation considering realistic power consumption and loss models to evaluate the spectral and energy efficiencies of the transmit precoding methods. Simulation results show that partially-connected hybrid precoders can be more energy-efficient compared to digital precoders, while fully-connected hybrid precoders exhibit poor energy efficiency in general. Also, the topology of phase-shifting components offers an energy-spectral efficiency trade-off: active phase-shifters provide higher data rates, while passive phase-shifters maintain better energy efficiency.

Here we apply the full Will-Nordtvedt version of the Parameterized Post-Newtonian (PPN) formalism to a class of General Relativity extensions that are based on nontrivial renormalization group (RG) effects at large scales. We focus on a class of models in which the gravitational coupling constant $G$ is correlated with the Newtonian potential. A previous PPN analysis considered a specific realization of the RG effects, and only within the Eddington-Robertson-Schiff version of the PPN formalism, which is a less complete and robust PPN formulation. Here we find stronger, more precise bounds, and with less assumptions. We also consider the External Potential Effect (EPE), which is an effect that is intrinsic to this framework and depends on the system environment (it has some qualitative similarities to the screening mechanisms of modified gravity theories). We find a single particular RG realization that is not affected by the EPE. Some physical systems have been pointed out as candidates for measuring the possible RG effects in gravity at large scales, for any of them the Solar System bounds need to be considered.

We use a strong coupling beam and a weak probe beam to couple different external momentum states of the cesium atom via two-photon Raman interaction which leads to the storage of the optical information of the probe beam. We have also measured the probe transmission spectrum, as well as the light storage spectrum which reveals very narrow subnatural resonance features showing absorption and gain. We have demonstrated that this memory presents the unique property of being insensitive to the reading process, which does not destroy the stored information leading to a memory lifetime limited only by the atomic thermal motion.

Filter bank-based multicarrier (FBMC) systems are currently being considered as a prevalent candidate for replacing the long established cyclic prefix (CP)-based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CP-OFDM) in the physical layer of next generation communications systems. In particular, FBMC/OQAM has received increasing attention due to, among other features, its potential for maximum spectral efficiency. It suffers, however, from an intrinsic self-interference effect, which complicates signal processing tasks at the receiver, including synchronization, channel estimation and equalization. In a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration, the multi-antenna interference has also to be taken into account. (Semi-)blind FBMC/OQAM receivers have been little studied so far and mainly for single-antenna systems. The problem of joint channel estimation and data detection in a MIMO-FBMC/OQAM system, given limited or no training information, is studied in this paper through a tensor-based approach in the light of the success of such techniques in OFDM applications. Simulation-based comparisons with CP-OFDM are included, for realistic transmission models.

General Relativity extensions based on Renormalization Group effects are motivated by a known physical principle and constitute a class of extended gravity theories that have some unexplored unique aspects. In this work we develop in detail the Newtonian and post Newtonian limits of a realisation called Renormalization Group extended General Relativity (RGGR). Special attention is taken to the external potential effect, which constitutes a type of screening mechanism typical of RGGR. In the Solar System, RGGR depends on a single dimensionless parameter $\bar ν_\odot$, and this parameter is such that for $\bar ν_\odot = 0$ one fully recovers GR in the Solar System. Previously this parameter was constrained to be $|\bar ν_\odot| \lesssim 10^{-21}$, without considering the external potential effect. Here we show that under a certain approximation RGGR can be cast in a form compatible with the Parametrised Post-Newtonian (PPN) formalism, and we use both the PPN formalism and the Laplace-Runge-Lenz technique to put new bounds on $\bar ν_\odot$, either considering or not the external potential effect. With the external potential effect the new bound reads $|\bar ν_\odot| \lesssim 10^{-16}$. We discuss the possible consequences of this bound to the dark matter abundance in galaxies.

Using this new method, we find that neither of the tested approaches can satisfactorily fit the observational data without dark matter. The CT approach results can be significantly improved if some dark matter is considered, while for the BG approach no usual dark matter halo can improve its results.

Iterative deflation algorithms based on successive rank-1 approximations can be used to perform this task, since the latter are rather easy to compute. We first present an algebraic rank-1 approximation method that performs better than the standard higher-order singular value decomposition (HOSVD) for three-way tensors. Second, we propose a new iterative rank-1 approximation algorithm that improves any other rank-1 approximation method. Third, we describe a probabilistic framework allowing to study the convergence of deflation CP decomposition (DCPD) algorithms based on successive rank-1 approximations. A set of computer experiments then validates theoretical results and demonstrates the efficiency of DCPD algorithms compared to other ones.

In this work, we present a new approach for the distributed computation of the PARAFAC decomposition of a third-order tensor across a network of collaborating nodes. We are interested in the case where the overall data gathered across the network can be modeled as a data tensor admitting an essentially unique PARAFAC decomposition, while each node only observes a sub-tensor with not necessarily enough diversity so that identifiability conditions are not locally fulfilled at each node. In this situation, conventional (centralized) tensor based methods cannot be applied individually at each node. By allowing collaboration between neighboring nodes of the network, we propose distributed versions of the alternating least squares (ALS) and Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) algorithms for the in-network estimation of the factor matrices of a third-order tensor. We assume that one of the factor matrices contains parameters that are local to each node, while the two remaining factor matrices contain global parameters that are common to the whole network. The proposed algorithms combine the estimation of the local factors with an in-network computation of the global factors of the PARAFAC decomposition using average consensus over graphs. They emulate their centralized counterparts in the case of ideal data exchange and ideal consensus computations. The performance of the proposed algorithms are evaluated in both ideal and imperfect cases.

In this paper, we present an overview of constrained PARAFAC models where the constraints model linear dependencies among columns of the factor matrices of the tensor decomposition, or alternatively, the pattern of interactions between different modes of the tensor which are captured by the equivalent core tensor. Some tensor prerequisites with a particular emphasis on mode combination using Kronecker products of canonical vectors that makes easier matricization operations, are first introduced. This Kronecker product based approach is also formulated in terms of the index notation, which provides an original and concise formalism for both matricizing tensors and writing tensor models. Then, after a brief reminder of PARAFAC and Tucker models, two families of constrained tensor models, the co-called PARALIND/CONFAC and PARATUCK models, are described in a unified framework, for $N^{th}$ order tensors. New tensor models, called nested Tucker models and block PARALIND/CONFAC models, are also introduced. A link between PARATUCK models and constrained PARAFAC models is then established. Finally, new uniqueness properties of PARATUCK models are deduced from sufficient conditions for essential uniqueness of their associated constrained PARAFAC models.
