This paper extends the formulation of a data-driven control method - the Optimal Controller Identification (OCI) - to cope with non-minimum phase (NMP) systems, without a priori knowledge of the NMP transmission zero, i.e. without obtaining a prior model of the plant - as in any data-driven approach. The method is based on the Model Reference paradigm, in which the desired closed-loop performance is specified by means of a closed-loop transfer function - the reference model. Considering a convenient parametrization of the latter and a flexible performance criterion, it is possible to identify the NMP transmission zeros of the plant along with the optimal controller parameters, as it will be shown. Both diagonal and block-triangular reference model structures are treated in detail. Simulation examples show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Eco-driving (ED) can be used for fuel savings in existing vehicles, requiring only a few hardware modifications. For this technology to be successful in a dynamic environment, ED requires an online real-time implementable policy. In this work, a dedicated Branch and Bound (BnB) model predictive control (MPC) algorithm is proposed to solve the optimization part of an ED optimal control problem. The developed MPC solution for ED is based on the following ingredients. As a prediction model, the velocity dynamics as a function of distance is modeled by a finite number of driving modes and gear positions. Then we formulate an optimization problem that minimizes a cost function with two terms: one penalizing the fuel consumption and one penalizing the trip duration. We exploit contextual elements and use a warm-started solution to make the BnB solver run in real-time. The results are evaluated in numerical simulations on two routes in Israel and France and the long haul cycle of the Vehicle Energy consumption Calculation Tool (VECTO). In comparison with a human driver and a Pontryagin's Minimum Principle (PMP) solution, 25.8% and 12.9% fuel savings, respectively, are achieved on average.

Materials and Methods: 9504 equine pre-import radiographs were used to train, validate, and test six deep learning architectures available as part of the open source machine learning framework PyTorch.
Results: ResNet-34 achieved a top-1 accuracy of 0.8408 and the majority (88%) of misclassification was because of wrong laterality. Class activation maps indicated that joint morphology drove the model decision.
Conclusion: Deep convolutional neural networks are capable of classifying equine pre-import radiographs into the 48 standard views including moderate discrimination of laterality independent of side marker presence.

In this paper, a complete eco-driving strategy for heavy-duty trucks (HDT) based on a finite number of driving modes with corresponding gear shifting is developed to cope with different route events and with road slope data. The problem is formulated as an optimal control problem with respect to fuel consumption and trip duration, and solved using a Pontryagin minimum principle (PMP) algorithm for a path search problem, such that computations can be carried out online, in real-time. The developed eco-driving assistance system (EDAS) provides a velocity profile and a sequence of driving modes (and gears) recommendation to the driver, without actively controlling the HDT (human in the loop) and, in practice, allows contextual feedback incorporation from the driver for safety. Simulation results show that the developed methodology is able to provide a velocity profile for a complete route based on known road events and slope information while satisfying all truck operational constraints.

This paper presents a data-driven approach to the design of predictive controllers. The prediction matrices utilized in standard model predictive control (MPC) algorithms are typically constructed using knowledge of a system model such as, state-space or input-output models. Instead, we directly estimate the prediction matrices relating future outputs with current and future inputs from measured data, off-line. On-line, the developed data--driven predictive controller reduces to solving a quadratic program with a similar structure and complexity as linear MPC. Additionally, we develop a new procedure for estimating prediction matrices from data for predictive controllers with integral action, corresponding to the rate-based formulation of linear MPC. The effectiveness of the developed data-driven predictive controller is illustrated on position control of a linear motor model.

In this paper, an eco--driving Pontryagin maximum principle (PMP) algorithm is designed for optimal deceleration and gear shifting in trucks based on switching among a finite set of driving modes. The PMP algorithm is implemented and assessed in the IPG TruckMaker traffic simulator as an eco--driving assistance system (EDAS). The developed EDAS strategy reduces fuel consumption with an optimized velocity profile and, in practice, allows contextual feedback incorporation from the driver for safety. Furthermore, the optimization over driving modes is computationally inexpensive, allowing the methodology to be used online, in real--time. Simulation results show that significant fuel savings can be achieved proportional to the number of velocity events and the difference between current velocity and final desired velocity for each event.

The new Coronavirus (COVID-19) is an emerging disease responsible for infecting millions of people since the first notification until nowadays. Develo** efficient short-term forecasting models allow knowing the number of future cases. In this context, it is possible to develop strategic planning in the public health system to avoid deaths. In this paper, autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA), cubist (CUBIST), random forest (RF), ridge regression (RIDGE), support vector regression (SVR), and stacking-ensemble learning are evaluated in the task of time series forecasting with one, three, and six-days ahead the COVID-19 cumulative confirmed cases in ten Brazilian states with a high daily incidence. In the stacking learning approach, the cubist, RF, RIDGE, and SVR models are adopted as base-learners and Gaussian process (GP) as meta-learner. The models' effectiveness is evaluated based on the improvement index, mean absolute error, and symmetric mean absolute percentage error criteria. In most of the cases, the SVR and stacking ensemble learning reach a better performance regarding adopted criteria than compared models. In general, the developed models can generate accurate forecasting, achieving errors in a range of 0.87% - 3.51%, 1.02% - 5.63%, and 0.95% - 6.90% in one, three, and six-days-ahead, respectively. The ranking of models in all scenarios is SVR, stacking ensemble learning, ARIMA, CUBIST, RIDGE, and RF models. The use of evaluated models is recommended to forecasting and monitor the ongoing growth of COVID-19 cases, once these models can assist the managers in the decision-making support systems.

The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a public health problem once according to the World Health Organization up to June 10th, 2020, more than 7.1 million people were infected, and more than 400 thousand have died worldwide. In the current scenario, the Brazil and the United States of America present a high daily incidence of new cases and deaths. It is important to forecast the number of new cases in a time window of one week, once this can help the public health system develo** strategic planning to deals with the COVID-19. In this paper, Bayesian regression neural network, cubist regression, k-nearest neighbors, quantile random forest, and support vector regression, are used stand-alone, and coupled with the recent pre-processing variational mode decomposition (VMD) employed to decompose the time series into several intrinsic mode functions. All Artificial Intelligence techniques are evaluated in the task of time-series forecasting with one, three, and six-days-ahead the cumulative COVID-19 cases in five Brazilian and American states up to April 28th, 2020. Previous cumulative COVID-19 cases and exogenous variables as daily temperature and precipitation were employed as inputs for all forecasting models. The hybridization of VMD outperformed single forecasting models regarding the accuracy, specifically when the horizon is six-days-ahead, achieving better accuracy in 70% of the cases. Regarding the exogenous variables, the importance ranking as predictor variables is past cases, temperature, and precipitation. Due to the efficiency of evaluated models to forecasting cumulative COVID-19 cases up to six-days-ahead, the adopted models can be recommended as a promising models for forecasting and be used to assist in the development of public policies to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 outbreak.

Accurate forecasting is important for decision-makers. Recently, the Amazon rainforest is reaching record levels of the number of fires, a situation that concerns both climate and public health problems. Obtaining the desired forecasting accuracy becomes difficult and challenging. In this paper were developed a novel heterogeneous decomposition-ensemble model by using Seasonal and Trend decomposition based on Loess in combination with algorithms for short-term load forecasting multi-month-ahead, to explore temporal patterns of Amazon rainforest fires in Brazil. The results demonstrate the proposed decomposition-ensemble models can provide more accurate forecasting evaluated by performance measures. Diebold-Mariano statistical test showed the proposed models are better than other compared models, but it is statistically equal to one of them.

Resonant controllers are widely used in applications involving reference tracking and disturbance rejection of periodic signals. The controller design is typically performed by a trial-and-error approach or by means of time and resource-consuming analytic methods that require an accurate plant model, intricated mathematics and sophisticated tools. In this paper, we propose an easily implementable, model-free method for tuning a proportional-multi-resonant controller applicable to general linear time-invariant causal plants. Just like the Ziegler-Nichols methods, the proposed methodology consist in identifying one specific point of the plant's frequency response -- which is easily obtained in a relay with adjustable phase experiment -- and then designing the controller with simple tuning formulas and tables. The method is analyzed in detail for three examples, showing its practical appeal and wide applicability.
