Among a large number of 2D materials, monolayer dichacogenides have emerged as promising candidate for hydrogen clean energy. In the present work, first-principles calculations and molecular dynamics simulations are carried out to investigate the adsorption behaviors of hydrogen molecules on transition metal dichalcogenides and disulphides. Furthermore we propose novel structures which may suitable for hydrogen storage. As the concentration increaes, 2D shows thermodynamic stability even at room temperature, suggesting a possible aplicability for hydrogen storage.

Here we investigate Several aspects of silicene do** with chromium, such as dopant solubility limits, site preference for adsorption and do**, and formation of magnetic domains. In this work we carried out investigation on diffusion and do** of chromium atoms on silicene. We use density-functional theory to identify the electronic and magnetic properties of tchromium atoms on monolayer and bilayer silicene. We find that magnetization depends on key parameters such as buckling, interlayer distance and adsorption site.

Phosphorene is a recently developed two-dimensional (2D) material that has attracted tremendous attention because of its unique anisotropic optical properties and quasi-one-dimensional (1D) excitons. We use first-principles calculations combined with the maximally localized Wannier function tight binding Hamiltonian (MLWF-TB) and Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE) formalism to investigate quasiparticle effects of 2D and quasi-1D blue and black phosphorene nanoribbons. Our electronic structure calculations shows that both blue and black monolayered phases are semiconductors. On the other hand black phosphorene zigzag nanoribbons are metallic. Similar behavior is found for very thin blue phosphorene zig-zag and armchair nanoribbon. As a general behavior, the exciton binding energy decreases as the ribbon width increases, which highlights the importance of quantum confinement effects. The solution of the BSE shows that the blue phosphorene monolayer has an exciton binding energy four times higher than that of the black phosphorene counterpart. Furthermore, both monolayers show a different linear optical response with respect to light polarization, as black phosphorene is highly anisotropic. We find a similar, but less pronounced, optical anisotropy for blue phosphorene monolayer, caused exclusively by the quasi-particle effects. Finally, we show that some of the investigated nanoribbons show a spin-triplet excitonic insulator behavior, thus revealing exciting features of these nanoribbons and therefore provides important advances in the understanding of quasi-one dimensional phosphorus-based materials.

Computer vision in general presented several advances such as training optimizations, new architectures (pure attention, efficient block, vision language models, generative models, among others). This have improved performance in several tasks such as classification, and others. However, the majority of these models focus on modifications that are taking distance from realistic neuroscientific approaches related to the brain. In this work, we adopt a more bio-inspired approach and present the Yin Yang Convolutional Network, an architecture that extracts visual manifold, its blocks are intended to separate analysis of colors and forms at its initial layers, simulating occipital lobe's operations. Our results shows that our architecture provides State-of-the-Art efficiency among low parameter architectures in the dataset CIFAR-10. Our first model reached 93.32\% test accuracy, 0.8\% more than the older SOTA in this category, while having 150k less parameters (726k in total). Our second model uses 52k parameters, losing only 3.86\% test accuracy. We also performed an analysis on ImageNet, where we reached 66.49\% validation accuracy with 1.6M parameters. We make the code publicly available at: https://github.com/NoSavedDATA/YinYang_CNN.

Global change is predicted to induce shifts in anuran acoustic behavior, which can be studied through passive acoustic monitoring (PAM). Understanding changes in calling behavior requires the identification of anuran species, which is challenging due to the particular characteristics of neotropical soundscapes. In this paper, we introduce a large-scale multi-species dataset of anuran amphibians calls recorded by PAM, that comprises 27 hours of expert annotations for 42 different species from two Brazilian biomes. We provide open access to the dataset, including the raw recordings, experimental setup code, and a benchmark with a baseline model of the fine-grained categorization problem. Additionally, we highlight the challenges of the dataset to encourage machine learning researchers to solve the problem of anuran call identification towards conservation policy. All our experiments and resources can be found on our GitHub repository https://github.com/soundclim/anuraset.

We have performed first-principles calculations of electronic and dielectric properties of single-layer bismuth (bismuthene) adsorbed with -COOH. We show that the Bi-COOH hybrid structure is a two-dimensional topological insulator with protected edge Dirac states. The adsorption process of -COOH induces a planar configuration to the initially pristine buckled bismuthene. We claim that the stability of these planar structure mainly stem from strain induced by the adsorption of the -COOH organic group, but it is also related to ligand-ligand interactions. Using charge density analysis we show that the role of this organic group is not only to stabilize the layer but also to functionalize it, which is very important for future applications such as sensing, biomolecules immobilization, as well in electronic spintronic and even optical devices, due to its large band gap. Finally we demonstrate that many body corrections are crucial to obtain a better description of the electronic and dielectric properties of these systems.

In this work we further extend our investigation to other point defects in Co-doped ZnO. We use density-functional theory and GW calculations to determined the orbital-resolved band structure of cobalt doped zinc oxide (ZnO).
We show that mainly O-p and Co-d orbitals take part in the process and confirm that an oxygen interstitial nearby a cobalt atom is a likely defect to occur in Co-implanted ZnO samples. We also rule out that other common point defects in ZnO can be responsible for the observed intra-3$d$ transition. Finally, we suggest that defect complexes involving oxygen interstitials could be used to promote ferromagnetism in cobalt doped ZnO samples.

In this work we perform density-functional theory calculations of electronic and optical properties of small ligands on GaN-(10$\bar1$0) surfaces. From the investigated anchor groups we show that thiol groups introduce states into the GaN band gap. However, these state are not optically active, at least for these perfect surfaces. This means that more realistic surfaces need to be considered to suggest how surface modification can enhance the optical properties of GaN non-polar surfaces.

In this work we use density functional theory (DFT) to investigate the influence of semi-local exchange and correlation effects on the electronic and optical properties of zinc oxide. We find that the inclusion of such effects using the Tran-Blaha modified Becke-Johnson potential yields an excellent description of the electronic structure of this material giving energy band gap which is systematically larger than the one obtained with standard local functionals such as the generalized gradient approximation. The discrepancy between the experimental and theoretical band gaps is then significantly reduced at a computational low cost. We also calculated the dielectric functions of ZnO and find a violet shift to the absorption edge which is in good agreement with experimental results.

We study the impact of black hole spin on the density profile using the exact Kerr geometry of the black whole in a fully relativistic adiabatic growth framework. We find that, despite the transfer of angular momentum from the hole to the halo, rotation increases significantly the dark matter density close to the black hole. The gravitational effects are still dominated by the black hole within its influence radius, but the larger dark matter annihilation fluxes might be relevant for indirect detection estimates.

Transport simulations explain these effects by molecular heating due to resonant electron-phonon coupling and molecular cooling by vibrational decay into the tip upon contact formation.
