An infinite family of Type 1 fullerene nanodiscs
Abstract: A total coloring of a graph colors all its elements, vertices and edges, with no adjacency conflicts. The Total Coloring Conjecture (TCC) is a sixty year old challenge, says that every graph admits a total coloring with at most maximum degree plus two colors, and many graph parameters have been studied in connection with its validity. If a graph admits a total coloring with maximum degree plus one… ▽ More

Accurate force-field methodology capturing atomic reconstructions in transition metal dichalcogenide moiré systems
Abstract: In this work, a generalized force-field methodology for the relaxation of large moiré heterostructures is proposed. The force-field parameters are optimized to accurately reproduce the structural degrees of freedom of some computationally manageable cells relaxed using density functional theory. The parameters can then be used to handle large moiré systems. We specialize to the case of 2H-phased t… ▽ More

The use of Data Augmentation as a technique for improving neural network accuracy in detecting fake news about COVID-19
Abstract: This paper aims to present how the application of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and data augmentation techniques can improve the performance of a neural network for better detection of fake news in the Portuguese language. Fake news is one of the main controversies during the growth of the internet in the last decade. Verifying what is fact and what is false has proven to be a difficult task,… ▽ More

On the product selectivity in the electrochemical reductive cleavage of lignin model compounds
Abstract: Research towards the production of renewable chemicals for fuel and energy industries has found lignin valorization as key. With a high carbon content and aromaticity, a fine-tuning of the depolymerization process is required to convert lignin into valuable chemicals. In context, model compounds have been used to understand the electrocatalyzed depolymerization for mimicking the typical linkages o… ▽ More

Nonsymmetric and Symmetric Fractional Calculi on Arbitrary Nonempty Closed Sets
Abstract: We introduce a nabla, a delta, and a symmetric fractional calculus on arbitrary nonempty closed subsets of the real numbers. These fractional calculi provide a study of differentiation and integration of noninteger order on discrete, continuous, and hybrid settings. Main properties of the new fractional operators are investigated, and some fundamental results presented, illustrating the interplay… ▽ More

A Fractional Calculus on Arbitrary Time Scales: Fractional Differentiation and Fractional Integration
Abstract: We introduce a general notion of fractional (noninteger) derivative for functions defined on arbitrary time scales. The basic tools for the time-scale fractional calculus (fractional differentiation and fractional integration) are then developed. As particular cases, one obtains the usual time-scale Hilger derivative when the order of differentiation is one, and a local approach to fractional calc… ▽ More

Symmetric Quantum Calculus
Abstract: We generalize the Hahn variational calculus by studying problems of the calculus of variations with higher-order derivatives. The symmetric quantum calculus is studied, namely the $α,β$-symmetric, the $q$-symmetric, and the Hahn symmetric quantum calculus. We introduce the symmetric quantum variational calculus and an Euler-Lagrange type equation for the $q$-symmetric and Hahn's symmetric quantum… ▽ More

The Diamond Integral on Time Scales
Abstract: We define a more general type of integral on time scales. The new diamond integral is a refined version of the diamond-alpha integral introduced in 2006 by Sheng et al. A mean value theorem for the diamond integral is proved, as well as versions of Holder's, Cauchy-Schwarz's and Minkowski's inequalities.

Symmetric Differentiation on Time Scales
Abstract: We define a symmetric derivative on an arbitrary nonempty closed subset of the real numbers and derive some of its properties. It is shown that real-valued functions defined on time scales that are neither delta nor nabla differentiable can be symmetric differentiable.

Hahn's Symmetric Quantum Variational Calculus
Abstract: We introduce and develop the Hahn symmetric quantum calculus with applications to the calculus of variations. Namely, we obtain a necessary optimality condition of Euler-Lagrange type and a sufficient optimality condition for variational problems within the context of Hahn's symmetric calculus. Moreover, we show the effectiveness of Leitmann's direct method when applied to Hahn's symmetric variati… ▽ More
