In this study, a vaccine supply chain model is developed considering the humanitarian aspects under uncertain conditions in Iran. There are three main components to supply the required vaccines for vaccination centers that can be designed and managed within three echelons: suppliers, distribution centers, and vaccination centers. Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical (IMHM), Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), and private sector companies play the role of suppliers in the model. A robust optimization approach is employed to address real-world uncertainty and find a solution dealing with all uncertain data possibilities and supply chain equity. To this aim, the actual COVID-19 data of Iran is gathered, including data on five different types of vaccines used in Iran. Then, it is investigated how vaccination programs can be accomplished more efficiently by considering priority issues, transportation, holding costs, and deprivation costs in Tehran, Iran's largest city and one of the most populous cities globally. Next, a set of sensitivity analyses are conducted, assessing the variation of deprivation costs for different problem instances and the budgets assigned to each supplier. One of the critical assumptions in this research is prioritizing older-aged groups over younger-aged ones into account for receiving the vaccine.

We present a combined study of the thermal expansion and the thermal conductivity of the perovskite series RCoO_3 with R = La, Nd, Pr and Eu. The well-known spin-state transition in LaCoO_3 is strongly affected by the exchange of the R ions due to their different ionic radii, i.e. chemical pressure. This can be monitored in detail by measurements of the thermal expansion, which is a highly sensitive probe for detecting spin-state transitions. The Co ions in the higher spin state act as additional scattering centers for phonons, therefore suppressing the phonon thermal conductivity. Based on the analysis of the interplay between spin-state transition and heat transport, we present a quantitative model of the thermal conductivity for the entire series. In PrCoO_3, an additional scattering effect is active at low temperatures. This effect arises from the crystal field splitting of the 4f multiplet, which allows for resonant scattering of phonons between the various 4f levels.

Abstract:
We report thermal-expansion, lattice-constant, and specific-heat data of the series La_1-xA_xCoO_3 for 0<= x <= 0.30 with A = Ca, Sr, and Ba. For the undoped compound LaCoO_3 the thermal-expansion coefficient alpha(T) exhibits a pronounced maximum around T=50K caused by a temperature-driven spin-state transition from a low-spin state of the Co^{3+$ ions at low towards a higher spin state at high…

We report thermal-expansion, lattice-constant, and specific-heat data of the series La_1-xA_xCoO_3 for 0<= x <= 0.30 with A = Ca, Sr, and Ba. For the undoped compound LaCoO_3 the thermal-expansion coefficient alpha(T) exhibits a pronounced maximum around T=50K caused by a temperature-driven spin-state transition from a low-spin state of the Co^{3+$ ions at low towards a higher spin state at higher temperatures. The partial substitution of the La^{3+} ions by divalent Ca^{2+}, Sr^{2+}, or Ba^{2+} ions causes drastic changes in the macroscopic properties of LaCoO3. The large maximum in alpha(T) is suppressed and completely vanishes for x> 0.12. For A = Ca three different anomalies develop in alpha(T) with further increasing x, which are visible in specific-heat data as well. Together with temperature-dependent x-ray data we identify several phase transitions as a function of the do** concentration x and temperature. From these data we propose an extended phase diagram for La_1-xCa_xCoO_3.

Using soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy and magnetic circular dichroism at the Co-$L_{2,3}$ edge we reveal that the spin state transition in LaCoO$_{3}$ can be well described by a low-spin ground state and a triply-degenerate high-spin first excited state. From the temperature dependence of the spectral lineshapes we find that LaCoO$_{3}$ at finite temperatures is an inhomogeneous mixed-spin-state system. Crucial is that the magnetic circular dichroism signal in the paramagnetic state carries a large orbital momentum. This directly shows that the currently accepted low-/intermediate-spin picture is at variance. Parameters derived from these spectroscopies fully explain existing magnetic susceptibility, electron spin resonance and inelastic neutron data.

We present a study of the thermal conductivity k and the thermopower S of single crystals of La_{1-x}Sr_xCoO_3 with 0<= x <= 0.3. From S, k, and the electrical resistivity rho we derive the thermoelectric figure of merit Z=S^2/(k*rho). For intermediate Sr concentrations we find notably large values of Z indicating that Co-based materials could be promising candidates for thermoelectric cooling.

We present a study of the structure, the electric resistivity, the magnetic susceptibility, and the thermal expansion of La$_{1-x}$Eu$_x$CoO$_3$. LaCoO$_3$ shows a temperature-induced spin-state transition around 100 K and a metal-insulator transition around 500 K. Partial substitution of La$^{3+}$ by the smaller Eu$^{3+}$ causes chemical pressure and leads to a drastic increase of the spin gap from about 190 K in LaCoO$_3$ to about 2000 K in EuCoO$_3$, so that the spin-state transition is shifted to much higher temperatures. A combined analysis of thermal expansion and susceptibility gives evidence that the spin-state transition has to be attributed to a population of an intermediate-spin state with orbital order for $x<0.5$ and without orbital order for larger $x$. In contrast to the spin-state transition, the metal-insulator transition is shifted only moderately to higher temperatures with increasing Eu content, showing that the metal-insulator transition occurs independently from the spin-state distribution of the Co$^{3+}$ ions. Around the metal-insulator transition the magnetic susceptibility shows a similar increase for all $x$ and approaches a do**-independent value around 1000 K indicating that well above the metal-insulator transition the same spin state is approached for all $x$.

We present an investigation of the influence of structural distortions in charge-carrier doped \lmco by substituting La$^{3+}$ with alkaline earth metals of strongly different ionic sizes, that is M = Ca$^{2+}$, Sr$^{2+}$, and Ba$^{2+}$, respectively. We find that both, the magnetic properties and the resistivity change non-monotonously as a function of the ionic size of M. Do** \lmco with M = Sr$^{2+}$ yields higher transition temperatures to the ferromagnetically ordered states and lower resistivities than do** with either Ca$^{2+}$ or Ba$^{2+}$ having a smaller or larger ionic size than Sr$^{2+}$, respectively. From this observation we conclude that the different transition temperatures and resistivities of \lmco for different M (of the same concentration $x$) do not only depend on the varying chemical pressures. The local disorder due to the different ionic sizes of La$^{3+}$ and M$^{2+}$ play an important role, too.

We present measurements of the magnetic susceptibility and of the thermal expansion of a LaCoO$_3$ single crystal. Both quantities show a strongly anomalous temperature dependence. Our data are consistently described in terms of a spin-state transition of the Co$^{3+}$ ions with increasing temperature from a low-spin ground state to an intermediate-spin state without (100K - 500K) and with (>500K) orbital degeneracy. We attribute the lack of orbital degeneracy up to 500K to (probably local) Jahn-Teller distortions of the CoO$_6$ octahedra. A strong reduction or disappearance of the Jahn-Teller distortions seems to arise from the insulator-to-metal transition around 500 K.
