Imaging arbitrary incoherent source distributions with near quantum-limited resolution
Abstract: We demonstrate an approach to obtaining near quantum-limited far-field imaging resolution of incoherent sources with arbitrary distributions. Our method assumes no prior knowledge of the source distribution, but rather uses an adaptive approach to imaging via spatial mode demultiplexing that iteratively updates both the form of the spatial imaging modes and the estimate of the source distribution.… ▽ More

Nonlinear absorption in dielectric metamaterials
Abstract: We solve the nonlinear Maxwell equations in an InP-based dielectric metamaterial, considering both two-photon absorption and photo-induced free-carrier absorption. We obtain the intensity-dependent reflection, absorption, and effective permittivity and permeability of the metamaterial. Our results show that nonlinear absorption dampens both the electric and magnetic Mie resonance, although the mag… ▽ More

Transfer matrix method for four-flux radiative transfer
Abstract: We develop a transfer matrix formalism for four-flux radiative transfer models, which is ideally suited for studying transport through multiple scattering layers. The model, derived for spherical particles within the diffusion approximation, predicts the specular and diffuse reflection and transmission of multilayer composite films for diffuse or collimated incidence. The model shows remarkable ag… ▽ More

Imaging the Breakdown of Molecular-Frame Dynamics through Rotational Uncoupling
Abstract: We demonstrate the breakdown of molecular-frame dynamics induced by the uncoupling of molecular rotation from electronic motion in molecular Rydberg states. We observe this non-Born-Oppenheimer regime in the time domain through photoelectron imaging of a coherent molecular Rydberg wave packet in $\textrm{N}_2$. The photoelectron angular distribution shows a radically different time evolution than… ▽ More

Enhancement of strong-field multiple ionization in the vicinity of the conical intersection in 1,3-cyclohexadiene ring opening
Abstract: Nonradiative energy dissipation in electronically excited polyatomic molecules proceeds through conical intersections, loci of degeneracy between electronic states. We observe a marked enhancement of laser-induced double ionization in the vicinity of a conical intersection during a non-radiative transition. We measured double ionization by detecting the kinetic energy of ions released by laser-ind… ▽ More

Broadband magnetometry by infrared-absorption detection of nitrogen-vacancy ensembles in diamond
Abstract: We demonstrate magnetometry by detection of the spin state of high-density nitrogen-vacancy ensembles in diamond using optical absorption at 1042 nm. With this technique, measurement contrast, and collection efficiency can approach unity, leading to an increase in magnetic sensitivity compared to the more common method of collecting red fluorescence. Working at 75 K with a sensor with effective… ▽ More
