Abstract:
The present work puts forward a concept that the thermostable O1s XPS peaks with energy of about 531 eV in negative charge-transfer SrFeO_{3-δ} perovskite are determined by the peroxo-like oxygen species. The present work puts forward a concept that the thermostable O1s XPS peaks with energy of about 531 eV in negative charge-transfer SrFeO_{3-δ} perovskite are determined by the peroxo-like oxygen species. The peroxo group forms via coupling two oxygen anions coordinated to iron cations with d^5\bar-under{L} (\bar-under{L}-oxygen electron hole) configuration. By means of plane-wave DFT+U approach there have been shown that the peroxo group represents a metastable state in the absence of oxygen vacancies nearby. The O-O bonding confines two electron holes freezing the 3+ oxidation state for two iron cations bridged by peroxide. Increasing the peroxo group numbers makes the ferrite a semiconductor with charge-transfer gap of about 0.6 eV.

Abstract:
The O-O coupling process is considered on terminal monocoordinated oxo centers in the gamma FeOOH hydroxide modeled by iron tetramer cubane cluster with the Fe4O4 core. The density functional theory predicts that reactive HO-Fe(IV)-O$\bullet$ group formed from hydroxide by second withdrawal of proton-electron pair is capable to couple the OH moiety of water molecule with a low barrier. This process is far more effective than direct coupling of oxo centers on neighboring metal sites and is comparable with the coupling between terminal oxo center and three-coordinated lattice oxo center. The competing process of hydroxylation of oxyl oxygen to form the hydroxo group is equally probable having similar barrier.

Electron configuration of the [FeO](2+) group in the H-abstraction from methane: oxyl versus ferryl
Authors:
Igor L. Zilberberg
Abstract:
This account presents author's opinion on the mechanism of the H-abstraction from methane by the [FeO](2+) group. In the course of reaction with hydrogen, the Fe-O bond in the ferryl configuration becomes elongated causing transfer of the spin-up electron from one of doubly occupied bonding orbitals leaving behind single spin-down electron on oxygen. This oxygen in so-formed oxyl configuration of…

This oxygen in so-formed oxyl configuration of the [FeO](2+) moiety then easily accept the spin-up hydrogen atom from methane in the same way as the radical-localized oxygen does. This mechanism is compared with the scheme in which the hydrogen is accepted by low-lying unoccupied antibonding orbital in the ferryl configuration.

The energy of the V=O group dissociation chosen as a descriptor of the oxidation activity is estimated using two aligned divanadate V2O3(OH)4 particles at various distances. Supported vanadia catalysts are modeled within the cluster DFT approach to get an insight into the mechanism in which the support affects the activity of vanadia in the oxidation processes. The energy of the V=O group dissociation chosen as a descriptor of the oxidation activity is estimated using two aligned divanadate V2O3(OH)4 particles at various distances. Separation between particles allows to imitate (i) the various supporting materials (e.g. TiO2, SiO2, etc.), and (ii) the coverage of vanadia on a particular support. A substantial compensation of the energy loss upon the vanadyl oxygen abstraction via bonding to the vanadyl oxygen of neighboring vanadate particle has been predicted. On account of such compensation the overall energy of the V=O dissociation reaches its minimal value of 36 kcal/mol (drop** from maximum of 142 kcal/mol) at small separation of 3 Å between dimers when the nearest vanadyl oxygen occupies a bridge V-O-V position. For dimers separated by about 4 Å, the dissociation energy achieves its maximal value for isolated dimers of about 143 kcal/mol. Thus, these findings allows one to conclude that the oxygen mobility is a result of a compensation effect in a chain-like bonding between neighboring vanadyl groups on the surface of support.

Abstract:
Reactivity of the [FeO]2+ group in the abstraction of hydrogen from methane is determined by metastable oxyl state FeIII-O* causing the negative spin polarization of the methyl moiety as was shown by quantum-chemical means with the use of model iron hydroxide species FeO(OH)2, Fe2O(OH)5, and Fe4O5(OH)3 as an example.

Abstract:
Anion-radical form of the oxygen centers O(-) is predicted at the DFT level for small silver oxide particles having the AgO stoichiometry. Model clusters (AgO)n appear to be ferromagnetic with appreciable spin density at the oxygen centers. In contrast to these clusters, the Ag2O model cluster have no unpaired electrons in the ground state. The increased O/Ag ratio in the oxide particles is proved…

Authors:

Abstract:
Eigenvalue-type equations for Lowdin-Amos-Hall spin-paired (corresponding) orbitals are developed to provide an alternative to the standard spin-polarized Hartree-Fock or Kohn-Sham equations. Obtained equations are non-canonical unrestricted Hartree-Fock-type equations in which non-canonical orbitals are fixed to be biorthogonal spin-paired orbitals. To derive paired orbitals for different spins (PODS) equations there has been applied Adams-Gilbert localizing operator approach. PODS equations are especially useful for treatment of the broken-symmetry solutions for antiferromagnetic materials.
