On the unique solvability of the simultaneous Pell equations $x^2-ay^2 = 1$ and $z^2-bx^2 = 1$
Authors:

Abstract:
We consider the simultaneous Pell equations $$x^2 - ay^2 = 1, \qquad z^2 - bx^2 = 1,$$ where $a > b\geq 2$ are positive integers. We describe a procedure which, for any fixed $b$, either confirms that the simultaneous Pell equations have at most one solution in positive integers, or finds all exceptions for which we have proved that there are at most finitely many.

An open conjecture of Levesque and Waldschmidt states that taking these parametrised Diophantine equations and twisting them not only once but twice, in the sense that we look at
\[
f_{n,s,t}(x,y) = \left( x - λ_0^s λ_1^t y \right) \left( x - λ_1^sλ_2^t y \right) \left( x - λ_2^sλ_0^t y \right) = \pm 1,
\]
retains a result similar to what Thomas obtained in the original or Levesque and Waldschidt in the once-twisted ($t = 0$) case; namely, that non-trivial solutions can only appear in equations where the parameters are small. We confirm this conjecture, given that the absolute values of the exponents $s, t$ are not too large compared to the base parameter $n$.

The new experimental measurements of beam spin asymmetry were performed for the deeply virtual exclusive $π^0$ production in a wide kinematic region with the photon virtualities $Q^2$ up to 8 GeV$^2$ and the Bjorken scaling variable $x_B$ in the valence regime. The data were collected by the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS12) at Jefferson Lab with longitudinally polarized 10.6 GeV electrons scattered on an unpolarized liquid-hydrogen target. Sizable asymmetry values indicate a substantial contribution from transverse virtual photon amplitudes to the polarized structure functions. The interpretation of these measurements in terms of the Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) demonstrates their sensitivity to the chiral-odd GPD $\bar E_T$, which contains information on quark transverse spin densities in unpolarized and polarized nucleons and provides access to the proton's transverse anomalous magnetic moment. Additionally, the data were compared to a theoretical model based on a Regge formalism that was extended to the high photon virtualities.

One of the first parametrised Thue equations, $$\left| X^3 - (n-1)X^2 Y - (n+2) XY^2 - Y^3 \right| = 1,$$ over the integers was solved by E. Thomas in 1990. Levesque and Waldschmidt twisted this norm-form equation by an exponential parameter $s$ and looked, among other things, at the equation $$\left| N_{K/\mathbb{Q}}\left( X - λ_0^s Y \right) \right| = 1.$$ They solved this effectively and conjectured that introducing a second exponential parameter $t$ and looking at $$\left| N_{K/\mathbb{Q}}\left( X - λ_0^sλ_1^t Y \right) \right| = 1$$ does not change the effective solvability. \par\medskip
We want to partially confirm this, given that $$\min\left( \left| 2s-t \right|, \left| 2t-s \right|, \left| s+t \right| \right) > \varepsilon \cdot \max\left( \left|s\right|, \left|t\right| \right) > 2,$$ i.e. the two exponents do not almost cancel in specific cases.

This document presents the initial scientific case for upgrading the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) at Jefferson Lab (JLab) to 22 GeV. It is the result of a community effort, incorporating insights from a series of workshops conducted between March 2022 and April 2023. With a track record of over 25 years in delivering the world's most intense and precise multi-GeV electron beams, CEBAF's potential for a higher energy upgrade presents a unique opportunity for an innovative nuclear physics program, which seamlessly integrates a rich historical background with a promising future. The proposed physics program encompass a diverse range of investigations centered around the nonperturbative dynamics inherent in hadron structure and the exploration of strongly interacting systems. It builds upon the exceptional capabilities of CEBAF in high-luminosity operations, the availability of existing or planned Hall equipment, and recent advancements in accelerator technology. The proposed program cover various scientific topics, including Hadron Spectroscopy, Partonic Structure and Spin, Hadronization and Transverse Momentum, Spatial Structure, Mechanical Properties, Form Factors and Emergent Hadron Mass, Hadron-Quark Transition, and Nuclear Dynamics at Extreme Conditions, as well as QCD Confinement and Fundamental Symmetries. Each topic highlights the key measurements achievable at a 22 GeV CEBAF accelerator. Furthermore, this document outlines the significant physics outcomes and unique aspects of these programs that distinguish them from other existing or planned facilities. In summary, this document provides an exciting rationale for the energy upgrade of CEBAF to 22 GeV, outlining the transformative scientific potential that lies within reach, and the remarkable opportunities it offers for advancing our understanding of hadron physics and related fundamental phenomena.

y^a = F_n + F_m \end{equation} has no solutions with $a\geq 2$ and $y^a > 3864^2$. While this is still an open problem, there exist several partial results. For example, recently Kebli, Kihel, Larone and Luca proved an explicit upper bound for $y^a$, which depends on the size of $y$.
In this paper, we find an explicit upper bound for $y^a$, which only depends on the Hamming weight of $y$ with respect to the Zeckendorf representation. More specifically, we prove the following: If $y = F_{n_1}+ \dots + F_{n_k}$ and equation \eqref{eq:abstract} is satisfied by $y$ and some non-negative integers $n,m$ and $a\geq 2$, then \[
y^a
\leq \exp\left(C{(\varepsilon)} \cdot k^{(3+\varepsilon)k^2} \right). \] Here, $\varepsilon >0$ can be chosen arbitrarily and $C(\varepsilon)$ is an effectively computable constant.

Several factors can contribute to the difficulty of aligning the sensors of tracking detectors, including a large number of modules, multiple types of detector technologies, and non-linear strip patterns on the sensors. All three of these factors apply to the CLAS12 CVT, which is a hybrid detector consisting of planar silicon sensors with non-parallel strips, and cylindrical micromegas sensors with longitudinal and arc-shaped strips located within a 5~T superconducting solenoid. To align this detector, we used the Kalman Alignment Algorithm, which accounts for correlations between the alignment parameters without requiring the time-consuming inversion of large matrices. This is the first time that this algorithm has been adapted for use with hybrid technologies, non-parallel strips, and curved sensors. We present the results for the first alignment of the CLAS12 CVT using straight tracks from cosmic rays and from a target with the magnetic field turned off. After running this procedure, we achieved alignment at the level of 10~$μ$m, and the widths of the residual spectra were greatly reduced. These results attest to the flexibility of this algorithm and its applicability to future use in the CLAS12 CVT and other hybrid or curved trackers, such as those proposed for the future Electron-Ion Collider.

We present the first measurement of di-hadron angular correlations in electron-nucleus scattering. The data were taken with the CLAS detector and a 5.0 GeV electron beam incident on deuterium, carbon, iron, and lead targets. Relative to deuterium, the nuclear yields of charged-pion pairs show a strong suppression for azimuthally opposite pairs, no suppression for azimuthally nearby pairs, and an enhancement of pairs with large invariant mass. These effects grow with increased nuclear size. The data are qualitatively described by the GiBUU model, which suggests that hadrons form near the nuclear surface and undergo multiple-scattering in nuclei. These results show that angular correlation studies can open a new way to elucidate how hadrons form and interact inside nuclei

Abstract:
Let $a\in \mathbb{Z}$ and $ρ$ be a root of $f_a(x)=x^3-ax^2-(a+3)x-1$, then the number field $K_a=\mathbb{Q}(ρ)$ is called a simplest cubic field. The standardized sizes used in the garment industry do not cover the range of individual differences in body shape for most people, leading to ill-fitting clothes, high return rates and overproduction. Recent research efforts in both industry and academia therefore focus on virtual try-on and on-demand fabrication of individually fitting garments. We propose an interactive design tool for creating custom-fit garments based on 3D body scans of the intended wearer. Our method explicitly incorporates transitions between various body poses to ensure a better fit and freedom of movement. The core of our method focuses on tools to create a 3D garment shape directly on an avatar without an underlying sewing pattern, and on the adjustment of that garment's rest shape while interpolating and moving through the different input poses. We alternate between cloth simulation and rest shape adjustment based on stretch to achieve the final shape of the garment. At any step in the real-time process, we allow for interactive changes to the garment. Once the garment shape is finalized for production, established techniques can be used to parameterize it into a 2D sewing pattern or transform it into a knitting pattern.

Develo** products, services and vertical applications for the future digitized society in the 6G era requires a multidisciplinary approach and a re-definition of how we create, deliver and consume network resources, data and services for both communications and sensing purposes. This development will change and disrupt the traditional business models and ecosystem roles of digital service providers, as well as open the market for key stakeholders in the 6G era like digital service operators, cloud operators and resource brokers. White paper discusses unprecedented opportunities of enabling and empowering multiple stakeholders to have a more active participation in the future 6G ecosystem via novel sustainable open ecosystemic business models with flexible integration of long tail services with tailored performance attributes. This research adopts a qualitative scenario planning method and portrays three scenario themes resulting in a total of 12 scenarios for the futures of the 6G business. By focusing on key trends, their interactions, and irreducible uncertainties, scenario building generates perspectives for the futures within which alternative 6G business strategies were developed and assessed for a traditional incumbent mobile network operator and a novel 6G digital service provider stemming from redefined sustainable economics. Value-capture in the 6G era requires understanding the dynamics of platforms and ecosystems. Results indicate that, to reach some of the preferred futures, we should pay attention to the privacy and security issues related to business and regulation needs; public/governmental, corporate, community and user(s) perspectives to and aims of governance; ecosystem configuration related to users, decentralized business models and platforms; user empowerment; and the role of location-specificity of services.

The commercial launch of 6G communications systems and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, UN SDGs, are both targeted for 2030. 6G communications is expected to boost global growth and productivity, create new business models and transform many aspects of society. The UN SDGs are a way of framing opportunities and challenges of a desirable future world and cover topics as broad as ending poverty, gender equality, climate change and smart cities. The relationship between these potentially mutually reinforcing forces is currently under-defined. Building on the vision for 6G, a review of megatrends, on-going activities on the relation of mobile communications to the UN SDGs and existing indicators, a novel linkage between 6G and the UN SDGs is proposed via indicators. The white paper has also launched the work of deriving new 6G related indicators to guide the research of 6G systems. The novel linkage is built on the envisaged three-fold role of 6G as a provider of services to help steer and support communities and countries towards reaching the UN SDGs, as an enabler of measuring tool for data collection to help reporting of indicators with hyperlocal granularity, and as a reinforcer of new ecosystems based on 6G technology enablers and 6G network of networks to be developed in line with the UN SDGs that incorporates future mobile communication technologies available in 2030. Related challenges are also identified. An action plan is presented along with prioritized focus areas within the mobile communication sector technology and industry evolution to best support the achievement of the UN SDGs.

The aim of the present paper is to provide explicit constants in the bounds of the discrepancy of $LS$-sequences. Further, we generalize the construction of Carbone and construct a new class of sequences of points in the unit interval, the generalized $LS$-sequences.

Abstract:
Let $g\ge 2$ be an integer and $\mathcal R_g\subset \mathbb N$ be the set of repdigits in base $g$. Let $\mathcal D_g$ be the set of Diophantine triples with values in $\mathcal R_g$; that is, $\mathcal D_g$ is the set of all triples $(a,b,c)\in \mathbb N^3$ with $c<b<a$ such that $ab+1,ac+1$ and $ab+1$ lie in the set $\mathcal R_g$. In this paper, we prove effective finitness results for the set…

On multiplicatively independent bases in cyclotomic number fields
Authors:
Manfred G. Madritsch,

Abstract:
Recently the authors showed that the algebraic integers of the form $-m+ζ_k$ are bases of a canonical number system of $\mathbb{Z}[ζ_k]$ provided $m\geq φ(k)+1$, where $ζ_k$ denotes a $k$-th primitive root of unity and $φ$ is Euler's totient function. In this paper we are interested in the questions whether two bases $-m+ζ_k$ and $-n+ζ_k$ are multiplicatively independent. We show the multiplicativ…

In this paper we study the non-existence problem of (nearly) perfect (almost) $m$-ary sequences via their connection to (near) Butson-Hadamard (BH) matrices and (near) conference matrices. Firstly, we apply a result on vanishing sums of roots of unity and a result of Brock on the unsolvability of certain equations over a cyclotomic number field to derive non-existence results for near BH matrices and near conference matrices. Secondly, we refine the idea of Brock in the case of cyclotomic number fields whose ring of integers is not a principal ideal domains and get many new non-existence results.

On corner avoidance of $\boldsymbol β$-adic Halton sequences
Authors:
Markus Hofer,

Abstract:
We consider the corner avoiding property of $s$-dimensional $\boldsymbol β$-adic Halton sequences. After extending this class of point sequences in an intuitive way, we show that the hyperbolic distance between each element of the sequence and the closest corner of $[0,1)^s$ is $\mathcal{O}\left(\frac{1}{N^{s/2+ε}}\right)$, where $N$ denotes the index of the element. In our proof we use tools from…

Abstract:
Let $S$ denote a set of primes and let $a_1,\ldots,a_m$ be positive distinct integers. We call the $m$-tuple $(a_1,\ldots,a_m)$ an $S$-Diophantine tuple if $a_ia_j+1=s_{i,j}$ are $S$-integers for all $i\not=j$. In this paper, we show that no $S$-Diophantine quadruple (i.e~$m=4$) exists if $S=\{2,q\}$ with $q\equiv 3\; (\bmod\, 4)$ or $q<10^9$. For two arbitrary primes $p,q<10^5$ we gain the same r…

A note on the number of $S$-Diophantine quadruples
Authors:

Volker Ziegler
Abstract:
Let $(a_1,\dots, a_m)$ be an $m$-tuple of positive, pairwise distinct, integers. If for all $1\leq i< j \leq m$ the prime divisors of $a_ia_j+1$ come from the same fixed set $S$, then we call the $m$-tuple $S$-Diophantine. In this note we estimate the number of $S$-Diophantine quadruples in terms of $|S|=r$.

On distinct unit generated fields that are totally complex
Authors:

Abstract:
We consider the problem of characterizing all number fields $K$ such that all algebraic integers $α\in K$ can be written as the sum of distinct units of $K$. We extend a method due to Thuswaldner and Ziegler that previously did not work for totally complex fields and apply our results to the case of totally complex quartic number fields.
