The dirty paper channel (DPC) under a peak amplitude constraint arises in an optical wireless broadcast channel (BC), where the state at one receiver is the transmitted signal intended for the other receiver(s). This paper studies a class of peak-constrained DPC that is applicable to the optical wireless BC, where the channel state (i.e, `dirt') takes values from some evenly-spaced grid. For the discrete-state DPC studied this paper, a capacity upper bound is obtained from its state-free counterpart. To lower bound its capacity, classical dirty paper coding schemes are revisited, including Costa's coding for DPC and Tomlinson-Harashima (TH) precoding, which serves as benchmark schemes. To improve the benchmark performance, two new precoding schemes are proposed for the discrete-state DPC. Although the proposed schemes do not achieve the state-free capacity contrary to what is known about the Costa's DPC, achievable rates within a small gap to the state-free capacity are demonstrated for the discrete-state DPC. Using the proposed precoding scheme in a two-user peak-constrained Gaussian BC, a new capacity inner bound (IB) is obtained, and is shown to outperform the truncated Gaussian (TG) based IB and is comparable to the best-known IB.

The $^{13}$C($α$,$n$)$^{16}$O reaction is the main neutron source for the slow-neutron-capture (s-) process in Asymptotic Giant Branch stars and for the intermediate (i-) process. Direct measurements at astrophysical energies in above-ground laboratories are hindered by the extremely small cross sections and vast cosmic-ray induced background. We performed the first consistent direct measurement in the range of $E_{\rm c.m.}=$0.24 MeV to 1.9 MeV using the accelerators at the China **** Underground Laboratory (CJPL) and Sichuan University. Our measurement covers almost the entire i-process Gamow window in which the large uncertainty of the previous experiments has been reduced from 60\% down to 15\%, eliminates the large systematic uncertainty in the extrapolation arising from the inconsistency of existing data sets, and provides a more reliable reaction rate for the studies of the s- and i-processes along with the first direct determination of the alpha strength for the near-threshold state.

In optical wireless communications, a broadcast channel (BC) employing intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD) is often modelled as a peak-constrained BC. A closed-form expression for its capacity region of the peak-constrained BC is not known. This paper presents an analytical capacity inner bound for the peak-constrained Gaussian BC achieved by a class of discrete input distribution, specifically, the evenly-spaced discrete uniform distribution (ESDU). In contrast to the continuous input distribution that provides the benchmark, ESDU is more promising in the application of peak-constrained Gaussian channels. The newly obtained capacity inner bound is easily-computable and is numerically shown to be tighter than the benchmark. Besides, we remark the newly developed analytical upper bound for the ESDU rate, which is tight in all tested settings.

The central task in the study of self-organization is to explore the general mechanism of emergences. However, this is inhibited by the missing of a full knowledge of the microscopic dynamics of emergence. Here, in this study, the microscopic dynamics of self-organization for patterns is investigated and quantified in a periodically propelled Quincke system. The periodical coupling between propulsion and repulsion at the particle level leads to local directed oscillating particle flows and promises a loop of positive feedback to density fluctuations. Nevertheless, the global evolution of the resulting cluster phase is dominated by a global dual transformation. As stable attractors of the dual transformation, self-dual patterns including stripe patterns and square lattices can be achieved by tuning the strength and the frequency of propelling. However, stripes are possible only at strong propelling where boundary particle flows can form. The findings in this study show that the dynamics of emergence on different length scales are controlled by different mechanisms. The competition and the interplay between different microscopic dynamic processes play the central role in determining the product of emergence. Moreover, the periodically oscillating self-dual patterns demonstrate a classical approach to time crystals.

A low-background neutron detector array was developed to measure the cross section of the $^{13}$C($α$,n)$^{16}$O reaction, which is the neutron source for the $s$-process in AGB stars, in the Gamow window ($E_{c.m.}$ = 190 $\pm$ 40 keV) at the China **** Underground Laboratory (CJPL). The detector array consists of 24 $^{3}$He proportional counters embedded in a polyethylene cube. Due to the deep underground location and a borated polyethylene shield around the detector array, a low background of 4.5(2)/hour was achieved. The $^{51}$V(p, n)$^{51}$Cr reaction was used to determine the neutron detection efficiency of the array for neutrons with energy $E_n$ $<$ 1 MeV. Geant4 simulations, which were shown to well reproduce experimental results, were used to extrapolate the detection efficiency to higher energies for neutrons emitted in the $^{13}$C($α$,n) $^{16}$O reaction. The theoretical angular distributions of the $^{13}$C($α$,n)$^{16}$O reaction were shown to be important in estimating the uncertainties of the detection efficiency.

The safety and interlock system (SIS) is in charge of the supervision and control of all the EAST components involved in the protection of human and tokamak from potential accidents. With the development of physical experiment, the SIS had come close to reaching its limits for expandability. Therefore, a prototype for upgrading EAST SIS has been designed, and a fast architecture based on COTS FPGA is absorbed into the new SIS. This paper presents EAST machine and human protection mechanism and the architecture of the upgrading safety and interlock system.

No robust detection of prompt electromagnetic counterparts to fast radio bursts (FRBs) has yet been obtained, in spite of several multi-wavelength searches carried out so far. Specifically, X/gamma-ray counterparts are predicted by some models. We planned on searching for prompt gamma-ray counterparts in the Insight-Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (Insight-HXMT) data, taking advantage of the unique combination of large effective area in the keV-MeV energy range and of sub-ms time resolution. We selected 39 FRBs that were promptly visible from the High-Energy (HE) instrument aboard Insight-HXMT. After calculating the expected arrival times at the location of the spacecraft, we searched for a significant excess in both individual and cumulative time profiles over a wide range of time resolutions, from several seconds down to sub-ms scales. Using the dispersion measures in excess of the Galactic terms, we estimated the upper limits on the redshifts. No convincing signal was found and for each FRB we constrained the gamma-ray isotropic-equivalent luminosity and the released energy as a function of emission timescale. For the nearest FRB source, the periodic repeater FRB180916.J0158+65, we find $L_{γ,iso}<5.5\times 10^{47}$ erg/s over 1 s, whereas $L_{γ,iso}<10^{49}-10^{51}$ erg/s for the bulk of FRBs. The same values scale up by a factor of ~100 for a ms-long emission. Even on a timescale comparable with that of the radio pulse itself no keV-MeV emission is observed. A systematic association with either long or short GRBs is ruled out with high confidence, except for subluminous events, as is the case for core-collapse of massive stars (long) or binary neutron star mergers (short) viewed off axis. Only giant flares from extra-galactic magnetars at least ten times more energetic than Galactic siblings are ruled out for the nearest FRB.

A search for a time-varying $\barν_{e}$ signal was performed with 621 days of data acquired by the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment over 704 calendar days. The time spectrum of the measured $\overlineν_e$ flux normalized to its prediction was analyzed with a Lomb-Scargle periodogram, which yielded no significant signal for periods ranging from 2 hours to nearly 2 years. The normalized time spectrum was also fit for a sidereal modulation under the Standard Model extension (SME) framework to search for Lorentz and CPT violation (LV-CPTV). Limits were obtained for all six flavor pairs $\bar{e}\barμ$, $\bar{e}\barτ$, $\barμ\barτ$, $\bar{e}\bar{e},\barμ\barμ$ and $\barτ\barτ$ by fitting them one at a time, constituting the first experimental constraints on the latter three. Daya Bay's high statistics and unique layout of multiple directions from three pairs of reactors to three experimental halls allowed the simultaneous constraint of individual SME LV-CPTV coefficients without assuming others contribute negligibly, a first for a neutrino experiment.

The multi-dimensional vibration acceleration, rotational speed, temperature, current and voltage signals of the motor are collected with NI cDAQ acquisition equipment in real time and high speed. At the same time, the model of motor health state and fault state is established. The order analysis algorithm is used to analyze the data at an advanced level, and the diagnosis and classification of different fault types are realized. The system is equipped with multi-channel acquisition, display, analysis and storage. Combined with the current cloud transmission technology, we will back up the data to the cloud to be used by other terminals.

Integrators are fundamental instruments to recover differential signals from magnetic probes in Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) experiments. A kind of difference integrator is introduced which has the same structure as the standard difference amplifier. The linear fitting method is used for determining the effective drift slope, then the plasma control system (PCS) use the drift slope to rectify the integration signal in real time. A new integrator controller was developed, which uses an ARM micro-controller and the lightweight IP protocol stack to realize the network control. The tests show that the upgraded integrator works well, its CMRR is high up to 125 dB when the common voltage is 1.5 V, and the processed integration drift is about 200 uVs /1000 s.
