Diverse Perspectives, Divergent Models: Cross-Cultural Evaluation of Depression Detection on Twitter

Despite the global significance of cross-cultural representation and its potential impact on model performance, publicly available datasets often lack crucial metadata related to this aspect. In this work, we evaluate the generalization of benchmark datasets to build AI models on cross-cultural Twitter data. We gather a custom geo-located Twitter dataset of depressed users from seven countries as a test dataset. Our results show that depression detection models do not generalize globally. The models perform worse on Global South users compared to Global North. Pre-trained language models achieve the best generalization compared to Logistic Regression, though still show significant gaps in performance on depressed and non-Western users. We quantify our findings and provide several actionable suggestions to mitigate this issue. △ Less

COVID-19 as Reflected in University President Bulk Email

But during the COVID-19 pandemic, as universities quickly closed facilities, sent students home, and canceled travel, these messages took on even greater importance. We report on a content analysis of bulk emails from diffe… ▽ More E-mail ``Messages From the President'' to university students, staff, and faculty have long been used to keep campus communities aware of the latest policies, events, and news. But during the COVID-19 pandemic, as universities quickly closed facilities, sent students home, and canceled travel, these messages took on even greater importance. We report on a content analysis of bulk emails from different universities' presidents to their students and employees before and in three stages of the pandemic. We find that these messages change as universities move towards and through closure. During the pandemic, 1) presidential bulk emails tend to be more informative, positive, clearer than before; 2) they tend to use more personal and collective language; 3) university presidents tend to mention more local political leaders and fewer other university leaders. Our results can inform research on digital crisis communication and may be useful for researchers interested in automatically identifying crisis situations from communication streams. △ Less

Understanding Structured Knowledge Production: A Case Study of Wikidata's Representation Injustice

Due to the structured nature of its content, the contributions are in various forms, including manual edit, tool-assisted edits, automated edits, etc, with the majority of edits being the import from wiki-internal or external datasets. Due to the outstanding power of bots and tools reflecting from their large volume of edits, knowledge contributions within Wikidata can easily cause epistemic injustice due to internal and external reasons. In this case study, we compared the coverage and edit history of human pages in two countries. By shedding light on these disparities and offering actionable solutions, our study aims to enhance the fairness and inclusivity of knowledge representation within Wikidata, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and comprehensive global knowledge base. △ Less

Resonant contribution of the three-body decay process $\bar B_{s}\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-} P$ in perturbation QCD

Getting the Most from Eye-Tracking: User-Interaction Based Reading Region Estimation Dataset and Models

Users' reading time spent on, and read level (skip/skim/read-in-detail) of each message is important for platforms to understand their users' interests, personalize their contents, and make recommendations. Based on accurate but expensive-to-collect eyetracker-recorded data, we built models that predict per-region reading time b… ▽ More A single digital newsletter usually contains many messages (regions). Users' reading time spent on, and read level (skip/skim/read-in-detail) of each message is important for platforms to understand their users' interests, personalize their contents, and make recommendations. Based on accurate but expensive-to-collect eyetracker-recorded data, we built models that predict per-region reading time based on easy-to-collect Javascript browser tracking data. With eye-tracking, we collected 200k ground-truth datapoints on participants reading news on browsers. Then we trained machine learning and deep learning models to predict message-level reading time based on user interactions like mouse position, scrolling, and clicking. We reached 27\% percentage error in reading time estimation with a two-tower neural network based on user interactions only, against the eye-tracking ground truth data, while the heuristic baselines have around 46\% percentage error. We also discovered the benefits of replacing per-session models with per-timestamp models, and adding user pattern features. The search is performed using five large data sets recorded at center-of-mass energies of 4.23, 4.26, 4.36, 4.42, and 4.60 GeV. The $η_c$ meson is reconstructed in 16 exclusive decay modes. Abstract: In the Standard Model (SM) charmless hadronic decays $B_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η$ proceed via tree-level $b\to u$ and penguin $b\to s$ transitions. Penguin transitions are sensitive to Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics scenarios and could affect the branching fractions and {\it CP} asymmetries in such decays. In heavy-ion collisions, the hydrodynamic expansion of the Quark-Gluon Plasma is one of the possible explanations of the origin of the ridge signal. Measurements in the $e^+e^-$ collision system, without the complexities introduced by hadron structure in the initial state, can serve as a complementary probe to examine the formation of a ridge signal. The first measurement of two-particle angular correlation functions in high multiplicity $e^+e^-$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=10.52$ GeV is reported. The hadronic $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected by the Belle detector at KEKB are used in this study. Two-particle angular correlation functions are measured over the full azimuth and large pseudorapidity intervals which are defined by either the electron beam axis or the event thrust as a function of charged particle multiplicity. The measurement in the event thrust analysis, with mostly outgoing quark pairs determining the reference axis, is sensitive to the region of additional soft gluon emissions. No significant ridge signal is observed with either coordinates analyses. Near side jet correlations appear to be absent in the thrust axis analysis. The measurements are compared to predictions from various event generators and expected to provide new constraints to the phenomenological models in the low energy regime. △ Less

Model-independent determination of the relative strong-phase difference between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-$ and its impact on the measurement of the CKM angle $γ/φ_3$

The relative strong-phase parameters between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$ in the decays $D^0\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-$ are studied using 2.93~${\rm fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data delivered by… ▽ More Crucial inputs for a variety of $CP$-violation studies can be determined through the analysis of pairs of quantum-entangled neutral $D$ mesons, which are produced in the decay of the $ψ(3770)$ resonance. The relative strong-phase parameters between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$ in the decays $D^0\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-$ are studied using 2.93~${\rm fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data delivered by the BEPCII collider and collected by the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV. Results are presented in regions of the phase space of the decay. These are the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters in $D \to K_{S,L}^0π^+π^-$ decays. Using these parameters, the associated uncertainty on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle $γ/φ_3$ is expected to be between $0.7^\circ$ and $1.2^\circ$, for an analysis using the decay $B^{\pm}\rightarrow DK^{\pm}$, $D\rightarrow K^0_Sπ^+π^-$, where $D$ represents a superposition of $D^0$ and $\bar{D^0}$ states. This is a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements. Determination of strong-phase parameters in $D\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-$

Abstract: We report the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$ decays to $K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-$ using a sample of 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Our results provide the key inputs for a binned model-independent determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle $γ/φ_3$ with $B$ decays. Using our results, the decay model sensitivity to the $γ/φ_3$ measurement is expected to be between 0.7$^{\circ}$ and 1.2$^{\circ}$, approximately a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements. The improved precision of this work ensures that measurements of $γ/φ_3$ will not be limited by knowledge of strong phases for the next decade. Abstract: Using a sample of $1.31\times10^{9} ~J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform a study of $J/ψ\toγK\bar{K}η'$. The $X(2370)$ is observed in the $K\bar{K}η'$ invariant-mass distribution with a statistical significance of 8.3$σ$. Abstract: Using a sample of $(448.1\pm2.9)\times10^6$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform the first partial wave analysis of $ψ(3686)\rightarrow K^+K^-η$. In addition to the well established states, $φ(1020)$, $φ(1680)$, and $K_3^*(1780)$, contributions from $X(1750)$, $ρ(2150)$, $ρ_3(2250)$, and $K^*_2(1980)$ are also observed. This renaissance has been driven in part by the discovery of a plethora of charmonium-like $XYZ$ states at BESIII and $B$ factories, and the observation of an intriguing proton-antiproton threshold enhancement and the possibly related $X(1835)$ meson state at BESIII, as well as the thre… ▽ More There has recently been a dramatic renewal of interest in the subjects of hadron spectroscopy and charm physics. We present a detailed survey of the important topics in tau-charm physics and hadron physics that can be further explored at BESIII over the remaining lifetime of BEPCII operation. Abstract: The SU(3)-flavor violating decay $J/ψ\toΞ(1530)^{-}\barΞ^{+}+c.c.$ is studied using $(1310.6\pm7.0)\times 10^{6} ~J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII and the branching fraction is measured to be ${\cal{B}}(J/ψ\toΞ(1530)^{-}\barΞ^{+}+c.c.)=(3.17\pm0.02_{\rm stat.}\pm0.08_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-4}$. This is consistent with previous measurements with an improved precision. The mass and width of the $D_{1}(2420)^+$ are measured to be $(2427.2\pm 1.0_{\rm stat.}\pm 1.2_{\rm syst.}) \rm{MeV}/c^2$ and $(23.2\pm 2.3_{\rm stat.} \pm2.3_{\rm syst.}) \rm{MeV}$, respectively. The first errors are statistical and the second ones are systematic. In addition, the Born cross sections of the $e^{+}e^{-} \to D_{1}(2420)^+D^- + c.c. \to D^{+} D^{-} π^{+} π^{-}$ and $e^{+}e^{-} \to ψ(3770) π^{+} π^{-} \to D^{+} D^{-} π^{+} π^{-}$ processes are measured as a function of the center-of-mass energy. △ Less

Observation of the leptonic decay $D^+ \to τ^+ ν_τ$

Abstract: We report the first observation of $D^+\toτ^+ν_τ$ with a significance of $5.1σ$. We measure ${\cal B}(D^+\toτ^+ν_τ) = (1.20\pm0.24_{\text{stat.}}\pm0.12_{\text{syst.}})\times10^{-3}$. Taking the world average ${\cal B}(D^+\toμ^+ν_μ) = (3.74\pm0.17)\times10^{-4}$, we obtain $R_{τ/μ} =Γ(D^+\toτ^+ν_τ)/Γ(D^+\toμ^+ν_μ) = 3.21\pm0.64_{\text{stat.}}\pm0.43_{\text{syst.}}$, which is consistent with the St… ▽ More We report the first observation of $D^+\toτ^+ν_τ$ with a significance of $5.1σ$. The ratio of ${\cal B}(D^0\toφπ^0)$ to $\cal B(D^+\toφπ^+)$ is calculated to be $(20.49\pm0.50\pm0.45)\%$, which is consistent with the theoretical prediction based on isospin symmetry between these two decay modes. △ Less

Abstract: We study $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions with a $π^{+}π^{-}π^{0}η_{c}$ final state using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}=4.226$, $4.258$, $4.358$, $4.416$, and $4.600$ GeV. Evidence for the decay $\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac$ is reported with a statistical significance of $3.9σ$ with various systematic uncertainties taken into account at $\sqrt{s} = 4.226$ GeV,… ▽ More We study $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions with a $π^{+}π^{-}π^{0}η_{c}$ final state using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}=4.226$, $4.258$, $4.358$, $4.416$, and $4.600$ GeV. Evidence for the decay $\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac$ is reported with a statistical significance of $3.9σ$ with various systematic uncertainties taken into account at $\sqrt{s} = 4.226$ GeV, and the Born cross section times branching fraction $σ^{B}(\EE\to \pimp\zcpm)\times \BR(\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac)$ is measured to be $(48 \pm 11 \pm 11)\,\rm{pb}$. The $\zcpm\to \rhopm\etac$ signal is not significant at the other center-of-mass energies and the corresponding upper limits are determined. In addition, no significant signal is observed in a search for $\zcppm\to ρ^{\pm}\etac$ with the same data samples. The ratios $R_{\zc}=\BR(\zcpm\to ρ^{\pm} \etac)/\BR(\zcpm\to π^{\pm} \jpsi)$ and $R_{\zcp}=\BR(\zcppm\to ρ^{\pm} \etac)/\BR(\zcppm\to π^{\pm} \hc)$ are obtained and used to discriminate between different theoretical interpretations of the $\zcpm$ and $\zcppm$. △ Less

Measurement of Branching Fractions of $ψ(3686)\rightarrowφη^\prime, φf_1(1285)$ and $φη(1405)$

Abstract: Using a sample of $448.1\times10^6$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform a study of the decay $ψ(3686) \rightarrow φπ^{+}π^{-}η$. The branching fraction of $ψ(3686)\rightarrowφη^\prime$ is determined to be $(1.51\pm0.16\pm0.12)\times 10^{-5}$, which is consistent with the previous measurement but with significantly improved precision. The resonances $f_{1}(1285)$ and $η(1405)$ are clearly observed in the $π^{+}π^{-}η$ mass spectrum with statistical significances of $18σ$ and $9.7σ$, respectively. The corresponding product branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(ψ(3686)\rightarrowφf_{1}(1285),f_{1}(1285)\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}η) =(1.03\pm0.10\pm0.09)\times 10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}(ψ(3686)\rightarrowφη(1405),η(1405)\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}η) =(8.46\pm1.37\pm0.92)\times 10^{-6}$. △ Less

In addition, the electromagnetic form-factor ratio ($|G_{E}/G_{M}|$) and the value of the effective ($|G_{\rm{eff}}|$), electric ($|G_E|$) and magnetic ($|G_M|$) form factors are measured by studying the helicity angle of the proton at 16 center-of-mass energy points. $|G_{E}/G_{M}|$ and $|G_M|$ are determined with high accuracy, providing uncertainties comparable to data in the space-like region, and $|G_E|$ is measured for the first time. We reach unprecedented accuracy, and precision results in the time-like region provide information to improve our understanding of the proton inner structure and to test theoretical models which depend on non-perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics. △ Less

It is concluded that the three methods have similar performance on uncertainty and systematic bias while deconvolution algorithm is best to handle larger overshoot and the simplest charge integration could be considered with controlled overshoot for future fast preliminary reconstruction. △ Less

The analysis, which is performed within the isobar-model approach, reveals contributions from $K^*_2(1430)^\pm$, $K^*_2(1980)^\pm$ and $K^*_4(2045)^\pm$ decaying to $K^\pmπ^0$. Abstract: We report a measurement of the ratios of branching fractions $\mathcal{R}(D) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D τ^- \barν_τ)/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D \ell^- \barν_{\ell})$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast}) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* τ^- \barν_τ)/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* \ell^- \barν_{\ell})$, where $\ell$ denotes an electron or a muon. The results are based on a data sample containing $772\times10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events recorded at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. The analysis utilizes a method where the tag-side $B$ meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode, and the signal-side $τ$ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The measured values are $\mathcal{R}(D)= 0.307 \pm 0.037 \pm 0.016$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast})= 0.283 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.014$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions within $0.2$ and $1.1$ standard deviations, respectively, while their combination agrees with the Standard Model predictions within $1.2$ standard deviations. △ Less

The significance of discrepancy is $4.0σ$ for $^{235}$U spectral shape compared with the Huber-Mueller model prediction. The shape of the measured inverse beta-decay prompt energy spectrum disagrees with the prediction of the Huber-Mueller model at $5.3σ$. The resulting values are obtained using the recent and most precise measured value of the asymmetry parameter $α_Λ$ = $0.750~\pm~0.010$ to be $R~=~0.96\pm0.14~(\rm stat.)\pm~0.02~(\rm sys.)$ and $ΔΦ=37^{\mathrm{o}}\pm~12^{\mathrm{o}}~(\rm stat.)\pm~6^{\mathrm{o}}~(\rm sys.)$, respectively. In addition, the cross section is measured with unprecedented precision to be $σ= 118.7~\pm~5.3~(\rm stat.)\pm~5.1~(\rm sys.)$ pb, which corresponds to an effective form factor of $|G|=0.123~\pm~0.003~(\rm stat.)\pm~0.003~(\rm sys.)$. The contribution from two-photon exchange is found to be negligible. Our result enables the first complete determination of baryon time-like electromagnetic form factors. △ Less

Abstract: Several intermediate states of the reaction channels $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow π^{+} π^{-} D^{0} \bar{D}^{0}$ and $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow π^{+} π^{-} D^{+}D^{-}$ are studied using the data samples collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies above 4.08 GeV. For the first time in this final state, a $ψ(3770)$ signal is seen in the $D\bar{D}$ invariant mass spectrum, with a statistica… ▽ More Several intermediate states of the reaction channels $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow π^{+} π^{-} D^{0} \bar{D}^{0}$ and $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow π^{+} π^{-} D^{+}D^{-}$ are studied using the data samples collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies above 4.08 GeV. For the first time in this final state, a $ψ(3770)$ signal is seen in the $D\bar{D}$ invariant mass spectrum, with a statistical significance of $5.2σ$ at $\sqrt{s} = 4.42$ GeV. There is also evidence for this resonance at $\sqrt{s}$ = 4.26 and 4.36 GeV with statistical significance of 3.2$σ$ and 3.3$σ$, respectively. In addition, the Born cross section of $e^{+}e^{-}\to π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3770)$ is measured. The proposed heavy-quark-spin-symmetry partner of the $X(3872)$, the state $X_{2}(4013)$, is also searched for in the $D\bar{D}$ invariant mass spectra. No obvious signal is found. The upper limit of the Born cross section of the process $e^{+}e^{-}\to ρ^{0}X_{2}(4013)$ combined with the branching fraction is measured. Also, the processes $e^{+}e^{-}\to D_{1}(2420)\bar{D} + c.c.$ are investigated. The neutral mode with $D_{1}(2420)^{0}\to D^{0}π^{+}π^{-}$ is reported with statistical significance of 7.4$σ$ at $\sqrt{s} = 4.42$ GeV for the first time, and evidence with statistical significance of 3.2$σ$ and 3.3$σ$ at $\sqrt{s}$ = 4.36 and 4.60 GeV is seen, respectively. No evident signal for the process $e^{+}e^{-}\to D_{1}(2420)^{0}\bar{D}^{0} + c.c., D_{1}(2420)^{0}\to D^{*+}π^{-}$ is reported. Evidence for $e^{+}e^{-}\to D_{1}(2420)^{+}D^{-} +~c.c., D_{1}(2420)^{+}\to D^{+}π^{+}π^{-}$ is reported with statistical significance of 3.1$σ$ and 3.0$σ$ at $\sqrt{s}$ = 4.36 and 4.42 GeV, respectively. △ Less

Abstract: Utilizing the dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $2.93$ fb$^{-1}$ at $\sqrt{s}=3.773$ GeV collected by the BESIII detector, we report the first amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of the $D^0\rightarrow K^-π^+π^0π^0$ decay. We investigate the sub-structures and determine the relative fractions and the phases among the different intermediate processes. Study of $e^+e^- \to γωJ/ψ$ and Observation of $X(3872) \to ωJ/ψ$

Abstract: We study the $e^+e^-\toγωJ/ψ$ process using $11.6 ~\rm fb^{-1}$ $e^+ e^-$ annihilation data taken at center-of-mass energies from $\sqrt{s}=4.008~\rm GeV$ to $4.600~\rm GeV$ with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The $X(3872)$ resonance is observed for the first time in the $ωJ/ψ$ system with a significance of more than $5σ$. The relative decay ratio of $X(3872)\toωJ/ψ$ and… ▽ More We study the $e^+e^-\toγωJ/ψ$ process using $11.6 ~\rm fb^{-1}$ $e^+ e^-$ annihilation data taken at center-of-mass energies from $\sqrt{s}=4.008~\rm GeV$ to $4.600~\rm GeV$ with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The relative decay ratio of $X(3872)\toωJ/ψ$ and $π^+π^- J/ψ$ is measured to be $\mathcal{R}=1.6^{+0.4}_{-0.3}\pm0.2$, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic (the same hereafter). The $\sqrt{s}$-dependent cross section of $e^+e^-\toγX(3872)$ is also measured and investigated, and it can be described by a single Breit-Wigner resonance, referred to as the $Y(4200)$, with a mass of $4200.6^{+7.9}_{-13.3}\pm3.0~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ and a width of $115^{+38}_{-26}\pm12~{\rm MeV}$. In addition, to describe the $ωJ/ψ$ mass distribution above $3.9~\rm GeV/c^2$, we need at least one additional Breit-Wigner resonance, labeled as $X(3915)$, in the fit. The mass and width of the $X(3915)$ are measured to be $3926.4\pm2.2\pm1.2~\rm MeV/c^2$ and $3.8\pm7.5\pm2.6~\rm MeV$, or $3932.6\pm8.7\pm4.7~\rm MeV/c^2$ and $59.7\pm15.5\pm3.7~\rm MeV$, respectively, depending on the fit models. The resonant parameters of the $X(3915)$ agree with those of the $Y(3940)$ in $B\to KωJ/ψ$ and of the $X(3915)$ in $γγ\toωJ/ψ$ by the Belle and BABAR experiments within errors. △ Less
