Abstract:
We report the temperature dependent magnetic penetration depth $λ(T)$ and the superconducting critical field $H_{c2}(T)$ in a 500-nm MgB$_{2}$ film. Our analysis of the experimental results takes into account the two gap nature of the superconducting state and indicates larger intraband diffusivity in the three-dimensional (3D) $π$ band compared to that in the two-dimensional (2D) $σ$ band. Direct…

Direct comparison of our results with those reported previously for single crystals indicates that larger intraband scattering in the 3D $π$ band leads to an increase of $λ$. We calculated $λ$ and the thermodynamic critical field $H_{c}\approx$2000 Oe employing the gap equations for two-band superconductors. Good agreement between the measured and calculated $λ$ value indicates the two independent measurements, such as magnetic force microscopy and transport, provide a venue for investigating superconducting properties in multi-band superconductors.

Abstract:
Magnesium diboride (MgB2) thin films are a potential alternative to low-temperature superconductors (LTS) due to a higher critical temperature (Tc) of approximately 39 K. The reactive evaporation deposition technique also affords relatively simple growth of MgB2 films on flexible substrates compared to high-temperature superconductors (HTS). We have designed and fabricated a cable architecture con…

We have designed and fabricated a cable architecture consisting of MgB2 traces on flexible yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) compatible with commercially available connectors or direct wirebonds. Key performance metrics such as critical current density (Jc) and Tc are measured and compared. We discuss thermal conductivity and passivation schemes for these cables.

Abstract:
We present a measurement of phonon propagation in a silicon wafer utilizing an array of frequency-multiplexed superconducting resonators coupled to a single transmission line. The electronic readout permits fully synchronous array sampling with a per-resonator bandwidth of 1.2 MHz, allowing sub-$μ$s array imaging. This technological achievement is potentially vital in a variety of low-temperature…

Abstract:
We report temporal measurements of the electronic temperature and the electron-phonon thermal relaxation rate in a micron-scale metal island, with a heat capacity of order 1 fJ/K . We employed a superconductor-insulator-normal metal tunnel junction, embedded in a radio-frequency resonator, as a fast (~ 20 MHz) thermometer. A resistive heater coupled to the island allowed us to drive the electron…

A resistive heater coupled to the island allowed us to drive the electronic temperature well above the phonon temperature. Using this device, we have directly measured the thermal relaxation of the hot electron population, with a measured rate consistent with the theory for dynamic electron-phonon cooling.
