This study provides an all-encompassing blueprint for the design and selective placement of truncation resonances in elastic periodic lattices, integrating all factors that play a role in the onset of truncation resonances and sha** the finite lattice's response, from unit cell configuration, mass and stiffness contrasts, to types and symmetry of boundary conditions.

Due to its extremely short timescale, the non-equilibrium melting of metals is exceptionally difficult to probe experimentally. The knowledge of melting mechanisms is thus based mainly on the results of theoretical predictions. This work reports on the investigation of ultrafast melting of thin polycrystalline Pd films studied by optical laser pump - X-ray free-electron laser probe experiments and molecular-dynamics simulations. By acquiring X-ray diffraction snapshots with sub-picosecond resolution, we capture the sample's atomic structure during its transition from the crystalline to the liquid state. Bridging the timescales of experiments and simulations allows us to formulate a realistic microscopic picture of melting. We demonstrate that the existing models of strongly non-equilibrium melting, developed for systems with relatively weak electron-phonon coupling, remain valid even for ultrafast heating rates achieved in femtosecond laser-excited Pd. Furthermore, we highlight the role of pre-existing and transiently generated crystal defects in the transition to the liquid state.

One of the main tasks of Natural Language Processing (NLP), is Named Entity Recognition (NER). It is used in many applications and also can be used as an intermediate step for other tasks. We present ANER, a web-based named entity recognizer for the Arabic, and Arabizi languages. The model is built upon BERT, which is a transformer-based encoder. It can recognize 50 different entity classes, covering various fields. We trained our model on the WikiFANE\_Gold dataset which consists of Wikipedia articles. We achieved an F1 score of 88.7\%, which beats CAMeL Tools' F1 score of 83\% on the ANERcorp dataset, which has only 4 classes. We also got an F1 score of 77.7\% on the NewsFANE\_Gold dataset which contains out-of-domain data from News articles. The system is deployed on a user-friendly web interface that accepts users' inputs in Arabic, or Arabizi. It allows users to explore the entities in the text by highlighting them. It can also direct users to get information about entities through Wikipedia directly. We added the ability to do NER using our model, or CAMeL Tools' model through our website. ANER is publicly accessible at \url{http://www.aner.online}. We also deployed our model on HuggingFace at https://huggingface.co/boda/ANER, to allow developers to test and use it.

Superfluid helium nanodroplets are an ideal environment for the formation of metastable, self-organized dopant nanostructures. However, the presence of vortices often hinders their formation. Here, we demonstrate the generation of vortex-free helium nanodroplets and explore the size range in which they can be produced. From x-ray diffraction images of xenon-doped droplets, we identify that single compact structures, assigned to vortex-free aggregation, prevail up to $10^8$ atoms per droplet. This finding builds the basis for exploring the assembly of far-from-equilibrium nanostructures at low temperatures.

The X-ray free-electron lasers that became available during the last decade, like the European XFEL (EuXFEL), place high demands on their instrumentation. Especially at low photon energies below $1\,\text{keV}$, detectors with high sensitivity, and consequently low noise and high quantum efficiency, are required to enable facility users to fully exploit the scientific potential of the photon source. A 1-Megapixel pnCCD detector with a $1024\times 1024$ pixel format has been installed and commissioned for imaging applications at the Nano-Sized Quantum System (NQS) station of the Small Quantum System (SQS) instrument at EuXFEL. The instrument is currently operating in the energy range between $0.5$ and $3\,\text{keV}$ and the NQS station is designed for investigations of the interaction of intense FEL pulses with clusters, nano-particles and small bio-molecules, by combining photo-ion and photo-electron spectroscopy with coherent diffraction imaging techniques. The core of the imaging detector is a pn-type charge coupled device (pnCCD) with a pixel pitch of $75\,μ\text{m}\times 75\,μ\text{m}$. Depending on the experimental scenario, the pnCCD enables imaging of single photons thanks to its very low electronic noise of $3$e$^-$ and high quantum efficiency. Here we present an overview on the EuXFEL pnCCD detector and the results from the commissioning and first user operation at the SQS experiment in June 2019. The detailed descriptions of the detector design and capabilities, its implementation at EuXFEL both mechanically and from the controls side as well as important data correction steps aim to provide useful background for users planning and analyzing experiments at EuXFEL and may serve as a benchmark for comparing and planning future endstations at other FELs.

The experiments show that removing ED stopwords give better performance than using lists of MSA stopwords only.

Name matching between multiple natural languages is an important step in cross-enterprise integration applications and data mining. It is difficult to decide whether or not two syntactic values (names) from two heterogeneous data sources are alternative designation of the same semantic entity (person), this process becomes more difficult with Arabic language due to several factors including spelling and pronunciation variation, dialects and special vowel and consonant distinction and other linguistic characteristics. This paper proposes a new framework for name matching between the Arabic language and other languages. The framework uses a dictionary based on a new proposed version of the Soundex algorithm to encapsulate the recognition of special features of Arabic names. The framework proposes a new proximity matching algorithm to suit the high importance of order sensitivity in Arabic name matching. New performance evaluation metrics are proposed as well. The framework is implemented and verified empirically in several case studies demonstrating substantial improvements compared to other well-known techniques found in literature.
