The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a TeV-scale high-luminosity linear $e^+e^-$ collider under development at CERN. Following the CLIC conceptual design published in 2012, this report provides an overview of the CLIC project, its current status, and future developments. It presents the CLIC physics potential and reports on design, technology, and implementation aspects of the accelerator and the detector. CLIC is foreseen to be built and operated in stages, at centre-of-mass energies of 380 GeV, 1.5 TeV and 3 TeV, respectively. CLIC uses a two-beam acceleration scheme, in which 12 GHz accelerating structures are powered via a high-current drive beam. For the first stage, an alternative with X-band klystron powering is also considered. CLIC accelerator optimisation, technical developments and system tests have resulted in an increased energy efficiency (power around 170 MW) for the 380 GeV stage, together with a reduced cost estimate at the level of 6 billion CHF. The detector concept has been refined using improved software tools. Significant progress has been made on detector technology developments for the tracking and calorimetry systems. A wide range of CLIC physics studies has been conducted, both through full detector simulations and parametric studies, together providing a broad overview of the CLIC physics potential. Each of the three energy stages adds cornerstones of the full CLIC physics programme, such as Higgs width and couplings, top-quark properties, Higgs self-coupling, direct searches, and many precision electroweak measurements. The interpretation of the combined results gives crucial and accurate insight into new physics, largely complementary to LHC and HL-LHC. The construction of the first CLIC energy stage could start by 2026. First beams would be available by 2035, marking the beginning of a broad CLIC physics programme spanning 25-30 years.

Nanophotonics has become a key enabling technology in biomedicine with great promises in early diagnosis and less invasive therapies. In this context, the unique capability of plasmonic noble metal nanoparticles to concentrate light on the nanometer scale has widely contributed to biosensing and enhanced spectroscopy. Recently, high-refractive index dielectric nanostructures featuring low loss resonances have been proposed as a promising alternative to nanoplasmonics, potentially offering better sensing performances along with full compatibility with the microelectronics industry. In this letter we report the first demonstration of biosensing with silicon nanoresonators integrated in state-of-the-art microfluidics. Our lab-on-a-chip platform enables detecting Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) cancer marker in human serum with a sensitivity that meets clinical needs. These performances are directly compared with its plasmonic counterpart based on gold nanorods. Our work opens new opportunities in the development of future point-of-care devices towards a more personalized healthcare.

The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a multi-TeV high-luminosity linear e+e- collider under development. For an optimal exploitation of its physics potential, CLIC is foreseen to be built and operated in a staged approach with three centre-of-mass energy stages ranging from a few hundred GeV up to 3 TeV. The first stage will focus on precision Standard Model physics, in particular Higgs and top-quark measurements. Subsequent stages will focus on measurements of rare Higgs processes, as well as searches for new physics processes and precision measurements of new states, e.g. states previously discovered at LHC or at CLIC itself. In the 2012 CLIC Conceptual Design Report, a fully optimised 3 TeV collider was presented, while the proposed lower energy stages were not studied to the same level of detail. This report presents an updated baseline staging scenario for CLIC. The scenario is the result of a comprehensive study addressing the performance, cost and power of the CLIC accelerator complex as a function of centre-of-mass energy and it targets optimal physics output based on the current physics landscape. The optimised staging scenario foresees three main centre-of-mass energy stages at 380 GeV, 1.5 TeV and 3 TeV for a full CLIC programme spanning 22 years. For the first stage, an alternative to the CLIC drive beam scheme is presented in which the main linac power is produced using X-band klystrons.

The electron linac will consist of two sequenced modules, each housing two 9-cell superconducting TESLA cavities for cw operation. It is planned that the TAC IR FEL facility will be completed in 2012 at Golbasi campus of Ankara University. This facility will give an opportunity to the scientists and industry to use FEL in research and development in Turkey and our region. In this study, the results of optimization studies and present plans about construction process of the facility are presented.

Main goal of the SASE FEL proposal is to cover VUV and soft X-rays region of the spectrum besides IR-FEL, Bremsstrahlung and Synchrotron Radiation proposals of TAC. Up to now, optimization studies based on a special RF linac or an Energy Recovery Linac (ERL) for the SASE FEL facility, were completed. Today, ERLs provide a powerful broad range of applications like: electron cooling devices, high average brightness, high power FELs, short-pulse radiation sources and high luminosity colliders. In this study, main parameters for two linac options and SASE FEL are given.

The complex will include linac on ring type electron-positron collider as a phi, charm and tau factory, linac based free electron laser (FEL), ring based third generation synchrotron radiation (SR) source and a few GeV proton accelerator. Preliminary estimations show that integral luminosity of hundred inverse femto-barns per year can be achieved for factory options. The FEL facility is planned to obtain laser beam between IR and soft X-ray region. In addition, SR facility will produce photon beams in UV and X-ray region. The proton accelerator will give opportunity to produce muon and neutron beams for applied research. The current status of the conceptual study of the complex is presented.

Linac-ring type colliders will open new windows for both energy frontier and particle factories. Concerning the first direction, these machines seem to be a sole way to TeV scale in lepton-hadron collisison at constituent level. An essential advantage of the linac-ring type lepton-hadron colliders is the possibility of the construction of gamma-p, gamma-A and FELgamma-A colliders based on them. Today, eRHIC, THERA (TESLA on HERA)and Linac*LHC can be considered as realistic candidates for future lepton-hadron and photon hadron colliders. When it comes to factories, one can reach essentially higher luminosities comparing to standard ring-ring type machines. For example, L=10^34 cm^-2 s^-1 can be achieved for phi and charm-tau factories. In this presentation we briefly discuss the parameters and physics search potential of the linac-ring type machines.

In this paper, main parameters for linac-ring type collider desinged for producing $φ$ particles copiously are estimated and potential of this machine in particle physics researches is investigated. Moreover, parameters for free electron laser and synchrotron radiation obtained from electron linac and positron ring, respectively, are determined and applications of these radiations are summarized…

Abstract:
A new method has been considered to investigate the scattering reactions with photons on fully ionized nuclei. To induce $γ$-nucleus collisions a free electron laser and a heavy ion synchrotron have been considered bringing them together. Main parameters of the collider (especially LHC and HERA for the acceleration of nuclei) have been estimated. Rough calculations have also been made for the cr…

Rough calculations have also been made for the cross sections of the excited nuclei production. Finally, some design problems involving the collider have been considered.

Abstract:
The present status of suggested linac-ring type ep and gamma-p colliders is reviewed. The main parameters of these machines as well as e-nucleus and gamma-nucleus colliders are considered. It is shown that sufficiently high luminosities may be achieved with a reasonable improvement of proton and electron beam parameters.
