In quantum kernel learning, the primary method involves using a quantum computer to calculate the inner product between feature vectors, thereby obtaining a Gram matrix used as a kernel in machine learning models such as support vector machines (SVMs). However, a method for consistently achieving high performance has not been established. In this study, we investigate the diagnostic accuracy using a commercial dataset of a network service fault diagnosis system used by telecommunications carriers, focusing on quantum kernel learning, and propose a method to stably achieve high performance. We show significant performance improvements and an efficient achievement of high performance over conventional methods can be attained by applying quantum entanglement in the portion of the general quantum circuit used to create the quantum kernel, through input data parameter map** and parameter tuning related to relative phase angles. Furthermore, experimental validation of the quantum kernel was conducted using IBM' s superconducting quantum computer IBM-Kawasaki, and its practicality was verified while applying the error suppression feature of Q-CTRL' s Fire Opal.

Abstract:
We classify vertex operator algebras (VOAs) of OZ-type generated by Ising vectors of $σ$-type. As a consequence of the classification, we also prove that such VOAs are simple, rational, $C_2$-cofinite and unitary, that is, they have compact real forms generated by Ising vectors of $σ$-type over the real numbers.

Abstract:
A magnetic order in orthorhombic GdCu$_2$ was investigated via a single crystal neutron diffraction with thermal neutron. Magnetic peaks were observed at incommensurate positions described by the ordering vector $q$=($δ$,~1,~0) with $δ$=0.678 at 4.6~K. This ordering vector is close to the commensurate one with $q_{\rm c}$=(2/3,~1,~0) reported earlier, but clearly deviates. The incommensurate natur…

We developed a beam telescope system comprising five layers of 300-$μ$m-thick INTPIX4NA monolithic pixel sensors with each pixel size of 17 $μ$m square. The sensors were fabricated using silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology. The signal-to-noise ratio of 140--230 is realized at a bias voltage of 20~V. The tracker system was tested using a positron beam of 200--822 MeV/c, and various tracking methods are examined to optimize spatial precision achievable at these energies. The best tracking precision including the precision of the sensor under test itself is 11.04 $\pm$ 0.10 $μ$m for 822-MeV/c positrons for an equidistant sensor spacing of 32 mm. The achieved precision results combined with the intrinsic spatial resolution value obtained for a similar system using 120 GeV protons are used to estimate the tracking performance of electrons in the GeV energy range; a tracking precision of 2.22 $μ$m is evaluated for 5-GeV electrons. The method to estimate the tracking performance is verified using a Geant4-based simulation. The developed high precision tracker system enables to map the detailed performance of the sensors with pixel sizes of $\mathcal{O}$(10 $μ$m), therefore will be a powerful system for development of devices targeting precision position resolutions.

The refined nuclear structure is distorted to a trigonal space group of $R\bar{3}$. The highest-energy dispersion extends up to 86 meV. The observed dispersions are reproduced by a simple model with three nearest-neighbor-exchange integrals between 16$a$ (octahedral) and 24$d$ (tetrahedral) sites, $J_{aa}$, $J_{ad}$, and $J_{dd}$, which are estimated to be 0.00$\pm$0.05, $-$2.90$\pm$0.07, and $-$0.35$\pm$0.08 meV, respectively. The lowest-energy dispersion below 14 meV exhibits a quadratic dispersion as expected from ferromagnetic magnons. The imaginary part of $q$-integrated dynamical spin susceptibility $χ$"($E$) exhibits a square-root energy-dependence in the low energies. The magnon density of state is estimated from the $χ$"($E$) obtained on an absolute scale. The value is consistent with a single polarization mode for the magnon branch expected theoretically.

We have found that the values of the Co(Rh)-O bond lengths in the Co(Rh)O$_{6}$ octahedron of LaCo$_{0.8}$Rh$_{0.2}$O$_{3}$ are nearly identical at 10 K. The lattice volume for the Rh$^{3+}$ substituted samples decreases with the thermal expansion coefficient similar to that of LaCoO$_{3}$ from room temperature, and ceases to decrease around 70 K. These experimental results favor a mixed state consisting of the high-spin-state and low-spin-state Co$^{3+}$ ions, and suggest that the high-spin-state Co$^{3+}$ ions are thermally excited in addition to those pinned by the substituted Rh$^{3+}$ ions.

Evidence for High Tc cuprate superconductivity is found in a region of the phase diagram where non-superconducting Fermi liquid metals are expected. Cu valences estimated independently from both x-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) and bond valence sum (BVS) measurements are > 2.3 for structures in the homologous series (Cu0.75Mo0.25)Sr2(Y,Ce)sCu2O5+2s+δ with s = 1, 2, 3, and 4. The s = 1 member, (Cu0.75Mo0.25)Sr2YCu2O7+δ, 0 \leq δ \leq 0.5, is structurally related to YBa2Cu3O7 in which 25% of the basal Cu cations [i.e. those in the chain layer] are replaced by Mo, and the Ba cations are replaced by Sr. After oxidation under high pressure the s = 1 member becomes superconducting with Tc = 88K. The Cu valence is estimated to be ~2.5, well beyond the ~2.3 value for which other High-Tc cuprates are considered to be overdoped Fermi liquids. The increase in valence is attributed to the additional 0.5 oxygen ions added per chain upon oxidation. The record short apical oxygen distance, at odds with current theory, suggests the possibility of a new pairing mechanism but further experiments are urgently needed to obtain more direct evidence. From the structural point of view the members with s \geq 2 are considered to be equivalent to single-layer cuprates. All have Tc ~ 56 K which is significantly higher than expected because they also have higher than expected Cu valences. The XANES-determined valences normalized to give values in the CuO2 layers are 2.24, 2.25, and 2.26 for s = 2, 3, and 4, while the BVS values determined for the valence in the CuO2 layer alone are 2.31-2.34 for the s = 2 and 3 members. No evidence for periodic ordering has been detected by electron diffraction and high resolution imaging studies. The possibility that the charge reservoir layers are able to screen long range coulomb interactions and thus enhance Tc is discussed.

Phys. Rev. Lett. 105 097207 (2010)]. In previous study, we have identified two spin-wave branches in the 4SL phase by means of inelastic neutron scattering measurements under applied uniaxial pressure. [T. Nakajima et al. J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 80 014714 (2011) ] In the present study, we have performed high-energy-resolution inelastic neutron scattering measurements in the 4SL phase, resolving fine structures of the lower-energy spin-wave branch near the zone center. Taking account of the spin-driven lattice distortions in the 4SL phase, we have developed a model Hamiltonian to describe the spin-wave excitations. The determined Hamiltonian parameters have successfully reproduced the spin-wave dispersion relations and intensity maps obtained in the inelastic neutron scattering measurements. The results of the spin-wave analysis have also revealed physical pictures of the magnon and electromagnon modes in the 4SL phase, suggesting that collinear and noncollinear characters of the two spin-wave modes are the keys to understand the dynamical coupling between the spins and electric dipole moments in this system.

Thermoelectric properties of the layered cobalt oxide system LixCoO2 were investigated in a wide range of Li composition, 0.98 >= x >= 0.35. Single-phase bulk samples of LixCoO2 were successfully obtained through electrochemical deintercalation of Li from the pristine LiCoO2 phase. While LixCoO2 with x >= 0.94 is semiconductive, the highly Li-deficient phase (0.75 >= x >= 0.35) exhibits metallic conductivity. The magnitude of Seebeck coefficient at 293 K (S293K) significantly depends on the Li content (x). The S293K value is as large as +70 ~ +100 uV/K for x >= 0.94, and it rapidly decreases from +90 uV/K to +10 uV/K as x is lowered within a Li composition range of 0.75 >= x >= 0.50. This behavior is in sharp contrast to the results of x <= 0.40 for which the S293K value is small and independent of x (+10 uV/K), indicating that a discontinuous change in the thermoelectric characteristics takes place at x = 0.40 ~ 0.50. The unusually large Seebeck coefficient and metallic conductivity are found to coexist in a narrow range of Li composition at about x = 0.75. The coexistence, which leads to an enhanced thermoelectric power factor, may be attributed to unusual electronic structure of the two-dimensional CoO2 block.

This system constitutes a solid solution for a full range of $x$,in which the crystal structure changes from rhombohedral to orthorhombic symmetry with increasing Rh content $x$. The magnetization data reveal that the magnetic ground state immediately changes upon Rh substitution from ferromagnetic to paramagnetic with increasing $x$ near 0.25, which is close to the structural phase boundary. We find that one substituted Rh ion diminishes the saturation moment by 9 $μ_B$, which implies that one Rh$^{3+}$ ion makes a few magnetic Co$^{3+}$ ions nonmagnetic (the low spin state), and causes disorder in the spin state and the highest occupied orbital. In this disordered composition ($0.05\le x \le 0.75$), we find that the thermopower is anomalously enhanced below 50 K. In particular, the thermopower of $x$=0.5 is larger by a factor of 10 than those of $x$=0 and 1, and the temperature coefficient reaches 4 $μ$V/K$^2$ which is as large as that of heavy-fermion materials such as CeRu$_2$Si$_2$.

The onset of bulk superconductivity transition was confirmed by SQUID magnetometry at 12.5~K. $^{57}$Fe Mössbauer spectra in transmission geometry were recorded at temperatures between 6.0 and 320 K. Both the isomer shift and the total absorption started to drop about $T_c$, indicating a softening of the lattice. The drop is estimated to correspond to at least 60~K from the original Debye temperature $θ_{\rm D}\approx 460$~K. Seebeck measurements indicate that the samples are $n$-type conductors at low temperatures with a cross-over to $p$-type conductivity around 135 K. The zero Seebeck coefficient is seen below $10.6$~K.

E7 part: In this paper, we study McKay's E7 observation on the Baby Monster. By investigating so called derived c=7/10 Virasoro vectors, we show that there is a natural correspondence between dihedral subgroups of the Baby Monster and certain subalgebras of the Baby Monster vertex operator algebra which are constructed by the nodes of the affine E7 diagram. This allows us to reinterpret McKay's E7 observation via the theory of vertex operator algebras. For a class of vertex operator algebras including the Moonshine module, we will show that the product of two Miyamoto involutions associated to derived c=7/10 Virasoro vectors in certain commutant vertex operator algebras is an element of order at most 4. For the case of the Moonshine module, we obtain the Baby monster vertex operator algebra as the commutant and we can identify the group generated by these Miyamoto involutions with the Baby Monster and recover the {3,4}-transposition property of the Baby Monster in terms of vertex operator algebras.
E6 part: In this paper, we study McKay's E6-observation on the largest Fischer 3-transposition group Fi24. We investigate a vertex operator algebra VF of central charge 23+1/5 on which the Fischer group Fi24 naturally acts. We show that there is a natural correspondence between dihedral subgroups of Fi24 and certain vertex operator subalgebras constructed by the nodes of the affine E6 diagram by investigating so called derived Virasoro vectors of central charge 6/7. This allows us to reinterpret McKay's E6-observation via the theory of vertex operator algebras. It is also shown that the product of two non-commuting Miyamoto involutions of sigma-type associated to derived c=6/7 Virasoro vectors is an element of order 3, under certain general hypotheses on the vertex operator algebra. For the case of VF, we identify these involutions with the 3-transpositions of the Fischer group Fi24.

Here we report the magnetic properties of the layered cobalt oxide system, LixCoO2, in the whole range of Li composition, 0 <= x <= 1. Based on dc-magnetic susceptibility data, combined with results of 59Co-NMR/NQR observations, the electronic phase diagram of LixCoO2 has been established. As in the related material NaxCoO2, a magnetic critical point is found to exist between x = 0.35 and 0.40, which separates a Pauli-paramagnetic and a Curie-Weiss metals. In the Pauli-paramagnetic regime (x <= 0.35), the antiferromagnetic spin correlations systematically increase with decreasing x. Nevertheless, CoO2, the x = 0 end member is a non-correlated metal in the whole temperature range studied. In the Curie-Weiss regime (x >= 0.40), on the other hand, various phase transitions are observed. For x = 0.40, a susceptibility hump is seen at 30 K, suggesting the onset of static AF order. A magnetic jump, which is likely to be triggered by charge ordering, is clearly observed at Tt = 175 K in samples with x = 0.50 (= 1/2) and 0.67 (= 2/3), while only a tiny kink appears at T = 210 K in the sample with an intermediate Li composition, x = 0.60. Thus, the phase diagram of the LixCoO2 system is complex, and the electronic properties are sensitively influenced by the Li content (x).

We find that although the antiferromagnetic spin correlations systematically increase with decreasing Li-content (x), the end member, CoO2 is a non-correlated metal that well satisfies the Korringa relation for a Fermi liquid. Thus, CoO2 is not simply located at the limit of x->0 for AxCoO2 (A = Li, Na) compounds. The disappearance of the electron correlations in CoO2 is due to the three dimensionality of the compound which is in contrast to the highly two dimensional structure of AxCoO2.

The photoproduction process of neutral kaons on a liquid deuterium target is investigated near the threshold region, Egamma = 0.8-1.1 GeV. K0 events are reconstructed from positive and negative pions, and differential cross sections are derived. Experimental momentum spectra are compared with those calculated in the spectator model using a realistic deuteron wave function. Elementary amplitudes as given by recent isobar models and a simple phenomenological model are used to study the effect of the new data on the angular behavior of the elementary cross section. The data favor a backward-peaked angular distribution of the elementary n(gamma,K0)Lambda process, which provides additional constraints on current models of kaon photoproduction. The present study demonstrates that the n(gamma,K0)Lambda reaction can provide key information on the mechanism of the photoproduction of strangeness.

Neutral kaons were identified by the invariant mass constructed from two charged pions emitted in the $K^{0}_{S}\toπ^{+}π^{-}$ decay channel. The differential cross sections as well as the integrated ones in the threshold photon energy region were obtained. The obtained momentum spectra were compared with a Spectator model calculation using elementary amplitudes of kaon photo-production given by recent isobar models. Present result provides, for the first time, the information on $n(γ,K^{0})Λ$ reaction which is expected to play an important role to construct models for strangeness production by the electromagnetic interaction. Experimental results show that cross section of $^{12}{\rm C}(γ,K^0)$ is of the same order to that of $^{12}{\rm C}(γ,K^+)$ and suggest that slightly backward $K^0$ angular distribution is favored in the $γn\to K^0Λ$ process.

As a consequence, we prove that every framed VOA is a simple current extension of the associated binary code VOA V_C. We completely determine all automorphisms in this pointwise stabilizer, which are of order 1, 2 or 4. The 4A-twisted sector and the 4A-twisted orbifold theory of the famous Moonshine VOA are also constructed explicitly. We verify that the top module of this twisted sector is of dimension 1 and of weight 3/4 and the VOA obtained by 4A-twisted orbifold construction of the moonshine VOA is isomorphic to the moonshine VOA itself.

Misfit-layered (ML) cobalt oxides of the general formula of [MmA2Om+2]qCoO2 have been proven to be efficient thermoelectric materials as the structure is capable in accommodating the two seemingly contradictory characteristics of high electrical conductivity and large thermo-electric power. They are also potential hosts for other oxymoron-like functions. The known phases all contain one or two square-planar MO (M = Co, Bi, Pb, Tl, etc.) layers sandwiched together with AO (A = Ca, Sr, Ba, etc.) planes of square symmetry and CoO2 layers of hexagonal symmetry. Here we report realization of the simplest (m = 0) ML phase forming in the Sr-Co-O system with the cation ratio, Sr/Co = 1. Atomic-resolution TEM imaging confirms for the new phase the parent three-layer crystal structure, SrO-SrO-CoO2, which is compatible with the formula of [Sr2O2]qCoO2. Electron diffraction reveals that the phase is rather commensurate, i.e. the "misfit parameter" q is 0.5. Nevertheless, in terms of the transport-property characteristics the new ML parent is comparable to its earlier-established and more complex derivatives.

We study McKay's observation on the Monster simple group, which relates the 2A-involutions of the Monster simple group to the extended E_8 diagram, using the theory of vertex operator algebras (VOAs). We first consider the sublattices L of the E_8 lattice obtained by removing one node from the extended E_8 diagram at each time. We then construct a certain coset (or commutant) subalgebra U associated with L in the lattice VOA V_{\sqrt{2}E_8}. There are two natural conformal vectors of central charge 1/2 in U such that their inner product is exactly the value predicted by Conway. The Griess algebra of U coincides with the algebra described in Conway's paper. There is a canonical automorphism of U of order |E_8/L|. Such an automorphism can be extended to the Leech lattice VOA V_Λand it is in fact a product of two Miyamoto involutions. In the sequel [LYY] to this article we shall develop the representation theory of $U$. It is expected that if U is actually contained in the Moonshine VOA V^\natural, the product of two Miyamoto involutions is in the desired conjugacy class of the Monster simple group.

The "lower-than-expected" value for the Co oxidation state may be alternatively explained by presence of oxygen vacancies or excess protons. The effect of Sr(II)-for-Ba(II) isovalent substitution on the magnetic irreversibility field (Hirr) of Cu(Ba1-ySry)2YbCu2O6.95(2) (Cu-1212) sample series (y = 0 ~ 0.4) is studied to reveal guiding rules for tailoring the intrinsic Hirr characteristics of high-Tc superconductors. It has been assumed that substitution of the larger alkaline earth cation, Ba(II), by the smaller, Sr(II), might improve the Hirr characteristics as a consequence of the decrease in the thickness of nonsuperconductive blocking block (BB). However, results of the present work show that Sr substitution rather depresses the Hirr characteristics of the Cu-1212-phase superconductors even though the thickness of BB decreases. Both the amount of excess oxygen and the overall positive charge are confirmed to remain constant upon the Sr substitution by wet-chemical and XANES analyses, respectively. However, from neutron diffraction data analysis it is found that Sr substitution breaks the conductive CuO chains in BB by shifting part of the excess oxygen atoms from the characteristic b-axis lattice site to the a-axis site. This is believed to decrease the concentration of mobile holes in the BB, as supported by the results of TEP measurements. The lower Hirr(T) lines of the Sr-substituted samples may thus be attributed to the lower concentration of mobile holes in BB.

A three-step route has been developed for the synthesis of a new oxygen-ordered double perovskite, BaYMn2O5.5 or Ba2Y2Mn4O11. (i) The A-site cation ordered perovskite, BaYMn2O5+d, is first synthesized at d ~ 0 by an oxygen-getter-controlled low-O2-pressure encapsulation technique utilizing FeO as the getter for excess oxygen. (ii) The as-synthesized, oxygen-deficient BaYMn2O5.0 phase is then readily oxygenated to the d ~ 1 level by means of 1-atm-O2 annealing at low temperatures. (iii) By annealing this fully-oxygenated BaYMn2O6.0 in flowing N2 gas at moderate temperatures the new intermediate-oxygen-content oxide, BaYMn2O5.5 or Ba2Y2Mn4O11, is finally obtained. From thermogravimetric observation it is seen that the final oxygen depletion from d ~ 1.0 to 0.5 occurs in a single sharp step about 600 C, implying that the oxygen stoichiometry of BaYMn2O5+d is not continuously tunable within 0.5 < d < 1.0. For BaYMn2O5.5 synchrotron x-ray diffraction analysis reveals an orthorhombic crystal lattice and a long-range ordering of the excess oxygen atoms in the YO0.5 layer. The magnetic behavior of BaYMn2O5.5 (with a ferromagnetic transition at ~ 133 K) is found different from those previously reported for the known phases, BaYMn2O5.0 and BaYMn2O6.0.

A Rietveld structural refinement of room-temperature neutron diffraction data for Fe-1222 reveals that nearly half the Fe remains at the M site, while the other half goes to the Cu site in the CuO2 planes. Existence of Fe at two different lattice sites, is also confirmed by 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy from which it is inferred that nearly 50% of the total Fe occupies the Cu site in the CuO2 planes as Fe3+, whereas the other 50 % is located at the M site with nearly 40 % as Fe4+ and around 10% as Fe3+. For the M = Co compound, nearly 84 % of Co remains at its designated M site, while the rest occupies the Cu site in the CuO2 planes. The oxygen content, z, based on oxygen occupancies refined from the neutron diffraction data, comes close to 9.0 for both the samples The ZFC and FC magnetization curves as a function of temperature show a complex behavior for both Fe-1222 and Co-1222 compounds.

Double perovskite, (Sr1-xNdx)2FeMoO6, was doped with electrons through partial substitution of divalent Sr by trivalent Nd (0 < x < 0.2). The Fe valence and the degree of B-site order were probed by 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy. Replacing Sr by Nd increased the fraction of Fe and Mo atoms occupying wrong sites, i.e. antisite disorder. It had very little effect on the Fe valence: a small but visible increase in the isomer shift was seen for the mixed-valent FeII/III atoms occupying the right site indicating a slight movement towards divalency of these atoms, which was more than counterbalanced by the increase in the fraction of antisite Fe atoms with III valence state. It is therefore argued that the bulk of the electron do** is received by antisite Mo atoms, which - being surrounded by six MoV/VI atoms - prefer the lower IV/V valence state. Thus under Nd substitution, the charge-neutrality requirement inflicts a lattice disorder such that low-valent MoIV/V can exist.

Here we show that the B-site cation (Fe/Mo) ordering in the double-perovskite magnetoresistor, Sr2FeMoO6, is controlled by either kinetics or thermal equilibrium depending on the temperature range. In order to enhance the ordering, long synthesis periods at moderate temperatures are thus required. Employment of a special oxygen-getter-controlled low-O2-pressure encapsulation technique for the sample synthesis enabled us to use long heating periods without evident evaporation of Mo, and thereby reach the thermal equilibrium state and a high degree of B-site cation order. For samples fired at 1150C for long periods (> 36 hours), record-high Ms values of 3.7 ~ 3.9 muB were obtained.

A reliable interpretation of the spectral features has been made possible by using a series of samples of the Sr2Fe(Mo,W/Ta)O6.0 system. Replacing MoV/VI gradually with WVI causes increasing amount of Fe to adopt the FeII state, whereas TaV substitution shifts the valence of iron towards FeIII. As the valence of Fe increases from II to III in the Sr2Fe(Mo,W/Ta)O6.0 system, the absorption energy at the Fe K-edge gradually shifts towards the higher energy side. Similarly, in the L2,3-edge XANES spectra intermediate spectral features are revealed for the Sr2FeMoO6.0 sample in comparison with those for samples heavily substituted with either W or Ta.

In the Fe-Mo based B-site ordered double-perovskite, A2FeMoO6.0, with iron in the mixed-valence II/III state, the valence value of Fe is not precisely fixed at 2.5 but may be fine-tuned by means of applying chemical pressure at the A-cation site. This is shown through a systematic 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy study using a series of A2FeMoO6.0 [A = (Ba,Sr) or (Sr,Ca)] samples with high degree of Fe/Mo order, the same stoichiometric oxygen content and also almost the same grain size. The isomer shift values and other hyperfine parameters obtained from the Mossbauer spectra confirm that Fe remains in the mixed-valence state within the whole range of A constituents. However, upon increasing the average cation size at the A site the precise valence of Fe is found to decrease such that within the A = (Ba,Sr) regime the valence of Fe is closer to II, while within the A = (Sr,Ca) regime it is closer to the actual mixed-valence II/III state. As the valence of Fe approaches II, the difference in charges between Fe and Mo increases, and parallel with this the degree of Fe/Mo order increases. Additionally, for the less-ordered samples an increased tendency of clustering of the anti-site Fe atoms is deduced from the Mossbauer data.

The Tb-123 phase has been synthesized in single-phase form with the composition
TbSr2Cu2.7Mo0.3O7 by solid-state reaction route and its phase purity is confirmed by neutron powder diffraction experiments. As-synthesized sample does not show superconductivity down to 5 K. An unusually high antiferromagnetic ordering temperature (TN) of around 7 K is seen for Tb. After 120-atm-O2 post-annealing, bulk superconductivity is achieved in the compound at around 30 K, without any significant effect on TN. To achieve higher oxygen content and higher Tc, the as-synthesized sample is subjected to high-pressure oxygenation (HPO) carried out in a closed cell at 5 GPa and 400 oC in the presence of AgO as an excess-oxygen source. This sample exhibited superconductivity onset at around 80 K with a Meissner fraction of larger than 10 % at 5 K. Our observation of superconductivity at 80 K is the highest Tc to-date among the Tb-123 compounds.

The nature of the magnetic transition of the Na-rich thermoelectric Na$_{0.75}$CoO$_2$ at 22K was studied by positive muon-spin-rotation and relaxation ($μ^+$SR) spectroscopy, using a polycrystalline sample in the temperature range between 300 and 2.5 K. Zero field $μ$SR measurements indicated the existence of a static internal magnetic field at temperatures below 22 K (= $T_{\rm m}$). The observed muon spin precession signal below $T_{\rm m}$ consisted of three components with different precession frequencies, corresponding to three inequivalent muon$^+$ sites in the Na$_{0.75}$CoO$_2$ lattice. The total volume fraction of the three components was estimated as $\sim$21% at 2.5 K; thus, this magnetic transition was not induced by impurities but is an intrinsic change in the magnetism of the sample, although the sample was magnetically inhomogeneous otherwise. On the other hand, a similar experiment on a Na$_{0.65}$CoO$_2$ sample exhibited no magnetic transition down to 2.5 K; which indicates that the average valence of the Co ions is responsible for inducing the magnetic transition at 22 K.

The as-air-synthesized samples up to x = 0.4 were found essentially oxygen stoichiometric (-0.03 <= d <= 0.00). These samples, however, were not superconductive, suggesting that the holes created by the divalent-for-trivalent cation substitution are trapped on Co in the charge reservoir. Ultra-high-pressure heat treatment carried out at 5 GPa and 500C for 30 min in the presence of Ag2O2 as an excess oxygen source induced bulk superconductivity in these samples. The highest Tc was obtained for the high-oxygen-pressure treated x = 0.3 sample at ~40 K.
