Quite recently, there were significant progresses in this field, notably the quantification of hadron level CP violation and the resolution of the strong CP problem. In this proceedings contribution, we summarize this attempt by focussing on the latter topic, the resulting new paradigm of baryogenesis, and the modifications that have to be applied in the evaluation of the EDMs.

Linear response approach to the relativistic coupled-cluster (RCC) theory has been extended to estimate contributions from the parity and time-reversal violating pseudoscalar-scalar (Ps-S) and scalar-pseudoscalar (S-Ps) electron-nucleus interactions along with electric dipole moments (EDMs) of electrons ($d_e$) interacting with internal electric and magnetic fields. Random phase approximation (RPA) is also employed to produce results to compare with the earlier reported values and demonstrate importance of the non-RPA contributions arising through the RCC method. It shows that contributions from the S-Ps interactions and $d_e$ arising through the hyperfine-induced effects are very sensitive to the contributions from the high-lying virtual orbitals. Combining atomic results with the nuclear shell-model calculations, we impose constraints on the pion-nucleon coupling coefficients, and EDMs of proton and neutron. These results are further used to constrain EDMs and chromo-EDMs of up- and down-quarks by analyzing particle physics models.

We argue that the topological charge of nonabelian gauge theory is unphysical. To show this statement, we use the Adler-Bardeen theorem and the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin symmetry which are warranted by the perturbative finiteness of the chiral anomaly, thus being free of Gribov ambiguity. In addition to the original argument using the unphysical gauge field component collinear to the spatial derivative of the gauge function, we show the unobservability of the topological charge using the Ward-Takahashi identity. We then present the consequences of this finding and show the consistency with many physical pictures and ideas that have been developed around the topology of nonabelian gauge theory. The most important ones are the resolution of the Strong CP problem, the unobservability of topological instantons, the physical relevance of the axial $U(1)$ symmetry, the independence of the vacuum energy on the vacuum angle, and the impossibility to realize the sphaleron induced baryogenesis and chiral magnetic effects. The axial $U(1)$ symmetry and the unphysical $θ$-term imply that the physical complex phase of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix is the sole source of CP violation in the standard model. The unphysical sphaleron also means that the lepton number is phenomenologically free from the baryon number, and their violations may be modeled separately. We also comment on the consistency with the results of lattice calculations.

The removal of Gribov copies, which may break the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin symmetry, is irrelevant thanks to the perturbative one-loop finiteness of the chiral anomaly. The unobservability of the topological charge immediately leads to the resolution of the Strong CP problem. We also present important consequences such as the physical relevance of axial $U(1)$ symmetry, the $θ$-independence of vacuum energy, the unphysicalness of topological instantons, and the impossibilities of realizing the sphaleron induced baryogenesis as well as the chiral magnetic effect. The unphysical vacuum angle and the axial $U(1)$ symmetry also imply that the CP phase of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix is the sole source of CP violation of the standard model.

The atomic EDM has a significant sensitivity to hadronic CP violation, but its quantification has for long been obstructed by the nonperturbative physics of quantum chromodynamics. Quite recently, the contribution of the Weinberg operator (CP violating three-gluon interaction) to the atomic EDM has been analyzed, and we are almost attaining the quantification era of the CP violating hadronic interaction in the leading order of standard model effective field theory. The contribution of the CP violating three-gluon interaction, proposed by Weinberg, to the short-range CP-odd nuclear force is evaluated in the nonrelativistic quark model. We first show that the naive leading contribution generated by the quark exchange process vanishes at sufficiently short distance within the resonating group method, by considering the one-loop level gluon exchange CP-odd interquark potential induced by the Weinberg operator with massive quarks and gluons. We then estimate the true leading contribution by evaluating the gluonic correction to the CP-odd interquark potential in the closure approximation. It is found that the resulting irreducible CP-odd nuclear force is comparable to that generated by the chiral rotation of the CP-even short-range nuclear force, where the CP-odd mass calculated with QCD sum rules is used as input. The explicit calculation of the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the $^3$He nucleus yields $d_{^3{\rm He}}^{\rm (irr)} (w) = - 1.5 \, w\, e $ MeV. The total $^3$He EDM, accounting for the intrinsic nucleon EDM, the pion-exchange and the short-range CP-odd nuclear force, is $d_{^3{\rm He}}^{\rm (tot)} (w) = 20_{-11}^{+14} \, w\, e $ MeV, with the dominant effect coming from the intrinsic nucleon EDM.

The contribution of the CP violating three-gluon Weinberg operator, $\frac{1}{3!} w f^{abc} ε^{νραβ} G^a_{μν} G^b_{αβ} G^{c μ}_ρ$, to the atomic and nuclear EDMs is estimated using QCD sum rules. After calculating the transition matrix element between the pion and the vacuum through the Weinberg operator, we obtain the long-range CP-odd nuclear force by determining the isovector CP-odd pion-nucleon vertex, using chiral perturbation theory at NLO. The EDMs of $^{199}$Hg, $^{129}$Xe, $^{225}$Ra, $^2$H, and $^3$He are finally given including comprehensive uncertainty analysis. While the leading contribution of the $^{199}$Hg EDM is given by the intrinsic nucleon EDM, that of $^{129}$Xe atom may be dominated by the one-pion exchange CP-odd nuclear force generated by the Weinberg operator. From current experimental data of the $^{199}$Hg atomic EDM, we obtain an upper limit on the Weinberg operator magnitude of $\left|w \right| < 4 \times 10^{-10} {\rm GeV}^{-2}$ if we assume that it is the only source of CP violation at the scale $μ=1$ TeV.

Such investigations include, among others, those of: (i) J/psi and Upsilon produced in association with other hard particles; (ii) chi(c,b) and eta(c,b) down to small transverse momenta; (iii) the constraints brought in by quarkonia on gluon PDFs, nuclear PDFs, TMDs, GPDs and GTMDs, as well as on the low-x parton dynamics; (iv) the gluon Sivers effect in polarised-nucleon collisions; (v) the properties of the quark-gluon plasma produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions and of collective partonic effects in general; and (vi) double and triple parton scatterings.

The CP-odd interquark potential is modeled by the perturbative one-loop level gluon exchange generated by the Weinberg operator with massive quarks and gluons. The nucleon EDM is obtained by solving the nonrelativistic Schrödinger equation of the three-quark system using the Gaussian expansion method. It is found that the resulting nucleon EDM, which may reasonably be considered as the irreducible contribution, is smaller than the one obtained after $γ_5$-rotating the anomalous magnetic moment using the CP-odd mass calculated with QCD sum rules. We estimate the total contribution to be $d_n = w \times 20 \, e \, {\rm MeV}$ and $d_p = - w \times 18 \, e \, {\rm MeV}$ with 60% of theoretical uncertainty.

Employing the relativistic coupled-cluster theory, we evaluate the enhancement factors for these two CP violating interactions to an accuracy of about 3% and analyze the contributions of the many-body effects. These two quantities in combination with the projected sensitivity of the $^{210}$Fr EDM experiment provide constraints on new physics beyond the Standard Model. We then calculate the hadronic long distance contribution generated by vector mesons at one-loop level. The $|ΔS|=1$ weak hadronic interaction is derived using the factorization, and the strong interaction is modeled by the hidden local symmetry framework. To do so, we also perform the first true NLO --up to alpha_s^4-- study of the p_T-differential cross section for single-quarkonium production. This allows us to fix the non-perturbative CEM parameters at NLO accuracy in the region where quarkonium-pair data are measured. Our results show that the CEM at NLO in general significantly undershoots these experimental data and, in view of the other existing SPS studies, confirm the need for Double Parton Scattering (DPS) to account for the data. Our NLO study of single-quarkonium production at mid and large p_T also confirms the difficulty of the approach to account for the measured p_T spectra; this is reminiscent of the impossibility to fit single-quarkonium data with the sole 3S18 NRQCD contribution from gluon fragmentation. We stress that the discrepancy occurs in a kinematical region where the new features of the improved CEM are not relevant.

We employ the cluster-decomposition error reduction technique and use all space-time symmetries to improve the signal. In the use of the HAL QCD method, the centrifugal force was subtracted to remove the systematic effect due to nonzero angular momenta of lattice discretization. From the extracted interglueball potential we determine the low energy glueball effective theory by matching with the one-glueball exchange process. We then calculate the scattering phase shift, and derive the relation between the interglueball cross section and the scale parameter $Λ$ as $σ_{φφ} = (2 - 51) Λ^{-2}$ (stat.+sys.). From the observational constraints of galactic collisions, we obtain the lower bound of the scale parameter, as $Λ> 60$ MeV. We also discuss the naturalness of the Yang-Mills theory as the theory explaining dark matter.

The $^7$Li and $^{11}$B nuclei are treated in the two- and three-body problem, respectively, using the Gaussian expansion method, assuming the one-meson exchange P, CP-odd nuclear forces. We find that $^7$Li and $^{11}$B have larger sensitivity to the CP violation than the deuteron. It is also suggested that the EDMs of $^7$Li and $^{11}$B, together with those of $^6$Li, $^9$Be and the $1/2^+_1$ excited state of $^{13}$C, obey an approximate counting rule accounting for the EDM of the cluster and the $α-N $ polarization. We show their sensitivity on the hadronic level CP violation in terms of the chiral effective field theory, and discuss their role in probing new physics beyond the standard model.

Prompt double-$J/ψ$ production at high-energy hadron colliders can be considered as a golden channel to probe double parton scatterings (DPS) --in particular to study gluon-gluon correlations inside the proton-- and, at the same time, to measure the distribution of linearly-polarised gluons inside the proton. Such studies however require a good control of both single and DPS in the respective regions where they are carried out. In this context, we have critically examined two mechanisms of single parton scatterings (SPS) that may be kinematically enhanced where DPS are thought to be dominant, even though they are either at higher orders in the strong-coupling or velocity expansion. First, we have considered a gauge-invariant and infrared-safe subset of the loop-induced contribution via Colour-Singlet (CS) transitions. We have found it to become the leading CS SPS contributions at large rapidity separation, yet too small to account for the data without invoking the presence of DPS yields. Second, we have surveyed the possible Colour-Octet (CO) contributions using both old and up-to-date non-perturbative long distance matrix elements (LDMEs). We have found that the pure CO yields crucially depend on the LDMEs. Among all the LDMEs we used, only two result into a visible modification of the NRQCD (CS+CO) yield, but only in two kinematical distributions measured by ATLAS, those of the rapidity separation and of the pair invariant mass. These modifications however do not impact the control region used for their DPS study.

It is found that the effect of the Pauli exclusion principle is not important intermediate $S=-1$ state, and that the result is consistent with the EDM of $^9$Be calculated with the $|ΔS|=1$ interactions as a perturbation without considering the nucleus-hypernucleus mixing. Our result suggests that the effect of the $|ΔS|=1$ interactions is neither suppressed nor enhanced in nuclei, if the difference of binding energies between the nucleus and the hypernucleus is small compared to the hyperon-nucleon mass difference.

We calculate the scalar and tensor charges of the nucleon in 2+1-flavor lattice QCD, for which the systematics of the renormalization of the disconnected diagram is well controlled. Numerical simulations are performed at a single lattice spacing a = 0.11 fm. We simulate four pion masses, which cover a range of $m_π\sim$ 290 - 540 MeV, and a single strange quark mass close to its physical value. The statistical accuracy is improved by employing the so-called low-mode averaging technique and the truncated solver method. We study up, down, and strange quark contributions to the nucleon charges by calculating disconnected diagrams using the all-to-all quark propagator. Chiral symmetry is exactly preserved by using the overlap quark action to avoid operator mixing among different flavors, which complicates the renormalization of scalar and tensor matrix elements and leads to possibly large contamination to the small strange quark contributions. We also study the nucleon axial charge with contribution from the disconnected diagram. Our results are in reasonable agreement with experiments and previous lattice studies.

Abstract:
In this proceeding, we present the results of the theoretical evaluations of the electric dipole moment (EDM) of light nuclei, including the preliminary value for the 11B nucleus. From the data, we can infer an approximate counting rule, and predict the EDM of other light nuclei.

We evaluate the frame-independent gluon and charm parton-distribution functions (PDFs) of the deuteron utilizing light-front quantization and the impulse approximation. We use a nuclear wave function obtained from solving the nonrelativistic Schroedinger equation with the realistic Argonne v18 nuclear force, which we fold with the proton PDF. The predicted gluon distribution in the deuteron (per nucleon) is a few percent smaller than that of the proton in the domain x_{bj} = Q^2 / (2 p_N \cdot q) \sim 0.4, whereas it is strongly enhanced for x_{bj} larger than 0.6. We discuss the applicability of our analysis and comment on how to extend it to the kinematic limit x_{bj} \to 2. We also analyze the charm distribution of the deuteron within the same approach by considering both the perturbatively and non-perturbatively generated (intrinsic) charm contributions. In particular, we note that the intrinsic-charm content in the deuteron will be enhanced due to 6-quark "hidden-color" QCD configurations.

AFTER@LHC is an ambitious fixed-target project in order to address open questions in the domain of proton and neutron spins, Quark Gluon Plasma and high-$x$ physics, at the highest energy ever reached in the fixed-target mode. Indeed, thanks to the highly energetic 7 TeV proton and 2.76 A.TeV lead LHC beams, center-of-mass energies as large as $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 115 GeV in pp/pA and $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 72 GeV in AA can be reached, corresponding to an uncharted energy domain between SPS and RHIC. We report two main ways of performing fixed-target collisions at the LHC, both allowing for the usage of one of the existing LHC experiments. In these proceedings, after discussing the projected luminosities considered for one year of data taking at the LHC, we will present a selection of projections for light and heavy-flavour production.

We re-analyse the associated production of a prompt J/psi and a W boson in pp collisions at the LHC following the results of the ATLAS Collaboration. We perform the first study of the Single-Parton-Scattering (SPS) contributions at the Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) in alpha_s in the Colour-Evaporation Model (CEM), an approach based on the quark-hadron-duality. Our study provides clear indications for Double-Parton-Scattering (DPS) contributions, in particular at low transverse momenta, since our SPS CEM evaluation, which can be viewed as a conservative upper limit of the SPS yields, falls short compared to the ATLAS experimental data by 3.1 standard deviations. We also determine a finite allowed region for sigma_eff, inversely proportional to the size of the DPS yields, corresponding to the otherwise opposed hypotheses, namely our NLO CEM evaluation and the LO direct Colour-Singlet (CS) Model contribution. In both cases, the resulting DPS yields are significantly larger than that initially assumed by ATLAS based on jet-related analyses but is consistent with their observed raw-yield azimuthal distribution and with their prompt J/psi+J/psi and Z + prompt J/psi data.

The current status of electric dipole moments of diamagnetic atoms which involves the synergy between atomic experiments and three different theoretical areas -- particle, nuclear and atomic is reviewed. Various models of particle physics that predict CP violation, which is necessary for the existence of such electric dipole moments, are presented. These include the standard model of particle physics and various extensions of it. Effective hadron level combined charge conjugation (C) and parity (P) symmetry violating interactions are derived taking into consideration different ways in which a nucleon interacts with other nucleons as well as with electrons. Nuclear structure calculations of the CP-odd nuclear Schiff moment are discussed using the shell model and other theoretical approaches. Results of the calculations of atomic electric dipole moments due to the interaction of the nuclear Schiff moment with the electrons and the P and time-reversal (T) symmetry violating tensor-pseudotensor electron-nucleus are elucidated using different relativistic many-body theories. The principles of the measurement of the electric dipole moments of diamagnetic atoms are outlined. Upper limits for the nuclear Schiff moment and tensor-pseudotensor coupling constant are obtained combining the results of atomic experiments and relativistic many-body theories. The coefficients for the different sources of CP violation have been estimated at the elementary particle level for all the diamagnetic atoms of current experimental interest and their implications for physics beyond the standard model is discussed. Possible improvements of the current results of the measurements as well as quantum chromodynamics, nuclear and atomic calculations are suggested.

In this review, we summarize the theoretical development on the electric dipole moment of light nuclei. We first describe the nucleon level CP violation and its parametrization. We then present the results of calculations of the EDM of light nuclei in the ab initio approach and in the cluster model. The analysis of the effect of several models beyond standard model is presented, together with the prospects for its discovery. The advantage of the electric dipole moment of light nuclei is focused in the point of view of the many-body physics. The evaluations of the nuclear electric dipole moment generated by the $θ$-term and by the CP phase of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix are also reviewed.
