The semi-exclusive measurements of the ($p,d$) reaction with protons from $η^\prime$ non-mesonic two-body absorption ($η^\prime NN \to NN$) are found to be critically important for the observation of the $η^\prime$ bound states. The Green's function method is used to calculate the momentum spectrum of forward going deuterons corresponding to the excitation energy spectrum of the $η^\prime \otimes {}^{11}$C system in the semi-exclusive measurement. The semi-exclusive measurements are considered to be important in general for the $η^\prime$ mesic nucleus formation.

The $K^-$-nucleus optical potential is revisited to investigate its global feature phenomenologically. It is a puzzle that the energy shift is found to be repulsive in all of the observed kaonic atom, although the $K^-N$ interaction is known to be so attractive as to form the $Λ(1405)$ resonance. To solve this puzzle, we examine the $K^-$ optical potential in the linear density approximation and determine the potential parameters of each kaonic atom so as to reproduce the observed energy shift and absorption width. We find two types of the potentials. One potential has a so large real part as to provide nuclear states with the same quantum number to the atomic state in the last orbit. The level repulsion between the atomic state and the nuclear states takes place due to their mixing, and it makes the atomic state shifted repulsively. The other type of the potential has a large imaginary part and the imaginary part works repulsively for atomic states. We find that only the latter solution reproduce a wide of the observed data, and thus is realized as a $K^-$-nucleus potential for kaonic atom. In the linear nuclear density optical potential, the picture that the repulsive shifts in the atomic states stem from the existence of the nuclear states does not globally stand up. This implies that the $K^-$-nucleus optical potential should have a large imaginary part. We examine some nonlinear density effects and find that the conclusion does not change. We also confirm that the conventionally known optical potentials are categorized into the latter type of the potential.

This state behaves like an explicit pentaquark state because its minimal quark configuration is $u u d s \bar{c}$ or $u d d s \bar{c}$. Owing to the attraction between every pair of two hadrons, in particular the $\bar{K}\bar{D}$ attraction which dynamically generates $D_{s 0} (2317)^{-}$ and $\bar{K} N$ attraction which dynamically generates $Λ(1405)$, the $\bar{K}\bar{D} N$ system is bound, and its eigenenergy is calculated as $3244 - 17 i$ MeV in a nonrelativistic three-body potential model. We discuss properties of this $\bar{K} \bar{D} N$ quasibound state which emerge uniquely in three-body dynamics.

Recently, the compositeness, defined as the norm of a two-body wave function for bound and resonance states, has been investigated to discuss the internal structure of hadrons in terms of hadronic molecular components. From the studies of the compositeness, it has been clarified that the two-body wave function of a bound state can be extracted from the residue of the scattering amplitude at the bound state pole. Of special interest is that the two-body wave function from the scattering amplitude is automatically normalized. In particular, while the compositeness is unity for energy-independent interactions, it deviates from unity for energy-dependent interactions, which can be interpreted as a missing-channel contribution. In this manuscript, we show the formulation of the two-body wave function from the scattering amplitude, evaluate the compositeness for several dynamically generated resonances such as $f_{0} (980)$, $Λ(1405)$, and $Ξ(1690)$, and investigate their internal structure in terms of the hadronic molecular components.

High-resolution pionic-atom x-ray spectroscopy was performed with an x-ray spectrometer based on a 240-pixel array of superconducting transition-edge-sensor (TES) microcalorimeters at the piM1 beam line of the Paul Scherrer Institute. X-rays emitted by pionic carbon via the 4f->3d transition and the parallel 4d->3p transition were observed with a full-width-at-half-maximum energy resolution of 6.8 eV at 6.4 keV. Measured x-ray energies are consistent with calculated electromagnetic values which considered the strong-interaction effect assessed via the Seki-Masutani potential for the 3p energy level, and favor the electronic population of two filled 1s electrons in the K-shell. Absolute energy calibration with an uncertainty of 0.1 eV was demonstrated under a high-rate hadron beam condition of 1.45 MHz. This is the first application of a TES spectrometer to hadronic-atom x-ray spectroscopy and is an important milestone towards next-generation high-resolution kaonic-atom x-ray spectroscopy.

We investigate the structure and formation of charmed meson--nucleus systems, with the aim of understanding the charmed meson--nucleon interactions and the properties of the charmed mesons in the nuclear medium. The $\bar{D}$ mesic nuclei are of special interest, since they have tiny decay widths due to the absence of strong decays for the $\bar{D} N$ pair. Employing an effective model for the $\bar{D} N$ and $D N$ interactions and solving the Klein--Gordon equation for $\bar{D}$ and $D$ in finite nuclei, we find that the $D^{-}$-${}^{11}\rm{B}$ system has $1 s$ and $2p$ mesic nuclear states and that the $D^{0}$-${}^{11}\rm{B}$ system binds in a $1s$ state. In view of the forthcoming experiments by the PANDA and CBM Collaborations at the future FAIR facility and the J-PARC upgrade, we calculate the formation spectra of the $[D^{-}$-${}^{11}\rm{B}]$ and $[D^{0}$-${}^{11}\rm{B}]$ mesic nuclei for an antiproton beam on a ${}^{12} \rm{C}$ target. Our results suggest that it is possible to observe the $2 p$ $D^{-}$ mesic nuclear state with an appropriate experimental setup.

We present a formulation of the compositeness for baryonic resonances in order to discuss the meson-baryon molecular structure inside the resonances. For this purpose, we derive a relation between the residue of the scattering amplitude at the resonance pole position and the two-body wave function of the resonance in a sophisticated way, and we define the compositeness as the norm of the two-body wave functions. As applications, we investigate the compositeness of the $Δ(1232)$, $N (1535)$, and $N (1650)$ resonances from precise $πN$ scattering amplitudes in a unitarized chiral framework with the interaction up to the next-to-leading order in chiral perturbation theory. The $πN$ compositeness for the $Δ(1232)$ resonance is evaluated in the $πN$ single-channel scattering, and we find that the $πN$ component inside $Δ(1232)$ in the present framework is nonnegligible, which supports the previous work. On the other hand, the compositeness for the $N (1535)$ and $N (1650)$ resonances is evaluated in a coupled-channels approach, resulting that the $πN$, $ηN$, $K Λ$ and $K Σ$ components are negligible for these resonances.

We evaluate the $πN$ compositeness of the $Δ(1232)$ resonance so as to clarify the internal structure of $Δ(1232)$ in terms of the $πN$ component. Here the compositeness is defined as contributions from two-body wave functions to the normalization of the total wave function and is extracted from the $πN$ scattering amplitude. In this study we employ the chiral unitary approach with the interaction up to the next-to-leading order plus a bare $Δ$ term in chiral perturbation theory and describe $Δ(1232)$ in an elastic $πN$ scattering. Fitting the $πN$ scattering amplitude to the solution of the partial wave analysis, we obtain a large real part of the $πN$ compositeness for $Δ(1232)$ comparable to unity and non-negligible imaginary part as well, with which we reconfirm the result in the previous study on the $πN$ compositeness for $Δ(1232)$.

We consider the pionic atom spectroscopy by the (d,3He) reaction on an odd-neutron nuclear target in this article, which has not been investigated so far. In the (d,3He) reaction on the odd-neutron nuclear target, we can observe the pionic states in the even-neutron nucleus with spin-parity 0+. We expect that this pionic state does not have the additional shifts due to the effects of the residual interaction between neutron-hole and pionic states. For the even-neutron nuclear target cases, we may have to take into account the residual interaction effects to deduce the binding energies of the pionic states precisely from the high precision experimental data since the final pionic states are the pion-particle plus neutron-hole states. Thus, in addition to widening the domain of the pionic atom spectroscopy in nuclear chart, the present study of the (d,3He) reaction on the odd-neutron target is considered to be important to deduce extremely precise information on the binding energies of the observed pionic states, and to know the pion properties and aspects of the symmetries of the strong interaction at finite density. We modify the formula of the even-even nuclear target case to study the pionic atom formation spectra on the even-odd nuclear target and show the numerical results of 117Sn target case. This experiment will be performed at RIBF/RIKEN in near future.

For this purpose we take into account the p-wave amplitudes for the meson-baryon two-body scatterings as well as the s-wave amplitudes. Due to the fact that the hyperon resonances are selectively produced from the $\bar{K} N$ channel in this reaction, the $Λ(1405)$ peak appears at 1420 MeV, which implies that $Λ(1405)$ and $Σ(1385)$ could be separately seen in the missing mass spectrum of the emitted nucleon in the $K^{-} d \to n X$ reaction. The $πY$ invariant mass spectrum in this study is consistent with experimental data both for $Σ(1385)$ and $Λ(1405)$. The pion exchange contributions are also included and are found to give smooth background without distorting the peak structure of the hyperon resonances.

The branching ratios of K^- absorption at rest in nuclear matter are theoretically investigated in order to understand the mechanism of K^- absorption into nuclei. For this purpose mesonic and nonmesonic absorption potentials are evaluated as functions of nuclear density, the kaon momentum and energy from one- and two-body K^- self-energy, respectively. By using a chiral unitary approach for the s-wave Kbar N amplitude we find that both the mesonic and nonmesonic absorption potentials are dominated by the Lambda(1405) contributions. The fraction of the mesonic and nonmesonic absorptions are evaluated to be respectively about 70% and 30% at the saturation density almost independently on the kaon momentum. We also observe different behavior of the branching ratios to pi ^+ Sigma^- and pi^- Sigma^+ channels in mesonic absorption due to the interference between Lambda(1405) and the I=1 nonresonant background, which is consistent with experimental results. The nonmesonic absorption ratios [Lambda p]/[Sigma^0 p] and [Lambda n]/[Sigma^0 n] are about unity while [Sigma^+ n]/[Sigma^0 p] and [Sigma^- p]/[Sigma^0 n] are about two due to the Lambda(1405) dominance in absorption. Taking into account the kaon momenta and energies, the absorption potentials become weaker due to the downward shift of the initial K^-N two-body energy, but this does not drastirally change the nonmesonic fraction. The Sigma(1385) contribution in the p-wave Kbar N amplitude is examined and found to be very small compared to the Lambda(1405) contribution in slow K^- absorption.

We review recent work concerning the $\bar{K}N$ interaction and Faddeev equations with chiral dynamics which allow us to look at the $\bar{K}NN$ from a different perspective and pay attention to problems that have been posed in previous studies on the subject. We show results which provide extra experimental evidence on the existence of two $Λ(1405)$ states. We then show the findings of a recent approach to Faddeev equations using chiral unitary dynamics, where an explicit cancellation of the two body off shell amplitude with three body forces stemming from the same chiral Lagrangians takes place. This removal of the unphysical off shell part of the amplitudes is most welcome and renders the approach unambiguous, showing that only on shell two body amplitudes need to be used. With this information in mind we use an approximation to the Faddeev equations within the fixed center approximation to study the $\bar{K}NN$ system, providing answers within this approximation to questions that have been brought before and evaluating binding energies and widths of this three body system. As a novelty with respect to recent work on the topic we find a bound state of the system with spin S=1, like a bound state of $\bar{K}$-deuteron, less bound that the one of S=0, where all recent efforts have been devoted. The width is relatively large in this case, suggesting problems in a possible experimental observation.

The observation of the 2s state with the ground 1s state is also helpful to reduce the experimental uncertainties associated in the calibration of the absolute excitation energy. We find that the nuclear densities probed by atomic pions are quite stable and almost constant for various atomic states and various nuclei. Effects of the pion wave function renormalization to the formation spectra are also evaluated.

We have performed a calculation of the scattering amplitude for the three body system $\bar{K}NN$ assuming $\bar{K}$ scattering against a $NN$ cluster, using the Fixed Center approximation to the Faddeev equations. The $\bar{K}N$ amplitudes, which we take from chiral unitary dynamics, govern the reaction and we find a $\bar{K}NN$ amplitude that peaks around 40 MeV below the $\bar{K}NN$ threshold, with a width in $|T|^2$ of the order of 50 MeV for spin 0 and has another peak around 27 MeV with similar width for spin 1. The results are in line with those obtained using different methods but implementing chiral dynamics. The simplicity of the approach allows one to see the important ingredients responsible for the results. In particular we show the effects from the reduction of the size of the $NN$ cluster due to the interaction with the $\bar{K}$ and those from the explicit considiration of the $ πΣN $ channel in the three body equations.

In this work we develop a formalism to evaluate wave functions in momentum and coordinate space for the resonant states dynamically generated in a unitary coupled channel approach. The on shell approach for the scattering matrix, commonly used, is also obtained in Quantum Mechanics with a separable potential, which allows one to write wave functions in a trivial way. We develop useful relationships among the couplings of the dynamically generated resonances to the different channels and the wave functions at the origin. The formalism provides an intuitive picture of the resonances in the coupled channel approach, as bound states of one bound channel, which decays into open ones. It also provides an insight and practical rules for evaluating couplings of the resonances to external sources and how to deal with final state interaction in production processes. As an application of the formalism we evaluate the wave functions of the two $Λ(1405)$ states in the $πΣ$, $\bar{K} N$ and other coupled channels. It also offers a practical way to study three body systems when two of them cluster into a resonance.

In our Monte Carlo simulation of this reaction we include not only the quasi-elastic K- p scattering, as in [1], but also K- absorption by one and two nucleons followed by the decay of the hyperon in pi N, which can also produce strength in the region of interest. The final state interactions in terms of multiple scattering of the K-, p and all other primary particles on their way out of the nucleus is also considered. We will show that all these additional mechanisms allow us to explain the observed spectrum with a "standard" shallow kaon nucleus optical potential obtained in chiral models. [1] T. We extend a recent work, where several resonances showed up as multi-$ρ(770)$ molecules, to the strange sector including the $K^*(892)$ into the system. The resonant structures show up in the multi-body scattering amplitudes, which are evaluated in terms of the unitary two-body vector-vector scattering amplitudes by using the fixed center approximation to the Faddeev equations.

We also estimate the consequences of the uncertainties of the ${\bar K}$ selfenergy in medium to the $φ$-nucleus interaction. We find that it may be possible to see a peak structure in the reaction spectra for the strong attractive potential cases. On the other hand, for strong absorptive interaction cases with relatively weak attractions, it is very difficult to observe clear peaks and we may need to know the spectrum shape in a wide energy region to deduce the properties of $φ$.

A recent experimental analysis of this (K-,p) reaction on 12C, based on the dominant quasielastic process, has suggested a deeply attractive kaon nucleus potential. Our Monte Carlo simulation considers, in addition, the one-and two-nucleon K- absorption processes producing hyperons that decay into πN pairs. We find that this kaon in-flight reaction is not well suited to determine the kaon optical potential due, essentially, to the limited sensitivity of the cross section to its strength, but also to unavoidable uncertainties from the coincidence requirement applied in the experiment. A shallow kaon nucleus optical potential obtained in chiral models is perfectly compatible with the observed spectrum.

We study the (K-,p) reaction on nuclei with a 1 GeV/c momentum kaon beam, paying a special attention at the region of emitted protons having kinetic energy above 600 MeV, which was used to claim a deeply attractive kaon nucleus optical potential. Our model describes the nuclear reaction in the framework of a local density approach and the calculations are performed following two different procedures: one is based on a many-body method using the Lindhard function and the other one is based on a Monte Carlo simulation. While both procedures coincide when it comes to consider the contribution of kaon quasi-elastic scattering, the simulation method offers more flexibility since it allows us to account for other processes which also contribute to the proton spectra, such as K- absorption by one and two nucleons producing hyperons. The simulation also considers final state interactions in terms of multiple scattering of the K-, p and all other primary and secondary particles on their way out of the nucleus, as well as the weak decay of the produced hyperons into (pi N). We find that this kaon in-flight reaction is not well suited to determine the kaon optical potential due, essentially, to the limited sensitivity of the cross section to its strength, but also to unavoidable uncertainties in the contribution from other processes. We also simulate the experimental requirement of having, together with the energetic proton, at least one charged particle detected in the decay counter surrounding the target, and find that the shape of the original cross section is appreciably distorted. We conclude that the new mechanisms, not considered in the analysis of the original experiment, allow us to explain the observed spectrum with the shallow kaon nucleus optical potential obtained in chiral models.

We study the (K-,p) reaction on C12 with a kaon beam of 1 GeV momentum, paying a special attention to the region of emitted protons having kinetic energy above 600 MeV, which was used to claim a deep kaon nucleus optical potential [1]. The experiment looks for fast protons emitted from the absorption of in flight kaons by nuclei, but in coincidence with at least one charged particle in the decay counters sandwiching the target. The analysis of the data is done in [1] assuming that the coincidence requirement does not change the shape of the final spectra. However our detailed calculations show that this assumption doesn't hold, and, thus, the final conclusion of this experiment is doubtful.
We perform Monte Carlo simulation of this reaction. The advantage of our method with respect to Green's function method used in [1] is that it allows to account not only for quasi-elastic K- p scattering, but also for the other processes which contribute to the proton spectra. We investigated the effect of the multi-scatterings and of the K- absorptions by one and two nucleons (K- N --> pi Y and K- N N --> Y N) followed by the decay of the hyperon in pi N. We show that all these mechanisms allow us to explain reasonably well the observed spectrum with standard shallow kaon nucleus optical potential, obtained in chiral models.

We study theoretically the in-flight ($K^-,N$) reactions for the formation of light kaonic nuclear systems to get deeper physical insights on the expected spectra, and to investigate the experimental feasibility of the reaction at new facilities like J-PARC. We show the expected spectra for the formation of the $K^-pp, K^-pn$, $K^-nn$ and $K^-$-$^{11}$B systems which are accessible by the ($K^-,N$) experiments. By considering the conversion part of the Green's function, we can show the missing mass spectra of the ($K^-,N$) reactions coincidence with the particle emissions due to ${\bar K}$ absorption in ${\bar K}N\to πY$ processes. To calculate the cross sections, we use the so-called $Tρ$ approximation to evaluate the optical potential. As for the amplitude $T$, we adopt the chiral unitary amplitude of ${\bar K}N$ channel in vacuum for simplicity, and we also check the medium effects by applying the chiral amplitude at finite density. The effects of the p-wave optical potential of $Σ$(1385) channel and the contribution from ${\bar K^0}$ mixing in $^3$He($K^-,n$) reaction are also evaluated numerically. To understand the meanings of the spectrum shape, we also study the behavior of the poles of kaon Green's function in nuclear matter. We conclude that $^3$He($K^-,n$) and $^3$He($K^-,p$) reactions coincident with the $πΣ$ emission due to ${\bar K}$ absorption may show the certain structure in the bound region spectra indicating the existence of the unstable kaonic nuclear bound states. As for the $^{12}$C($K^-,p$) spectra with the $πΣ$ emission, we may also observe the structure in the bound region, however, we need to evaluate the medium effects carefully for larger nuclei.
