Joint Hybrid Transceiver and Reflection Matrix Design for RIS-Aided mmWave MIMO Cognitive Radio Systems

The cognitive base station (CBS) communicates with multiple secondary users (SUs), each having multiple RF chains in the presence of a primary user (PU). We conceive a joint hybrid transmit precoder (TPC), receiver combiner (RC), and RIS reflection matrix (RM) design, which maximizes the sum spectral efficiency (SE) of the secondary system while maintaining the interference induced at the PU below a specified threshold. To this end, we formulate the sum-SE maximization problem considering the total transmit power (TP), the interference power (IP), and the non-convex unity modulus constraints of the RF TPC, RF RC, and RM. To solve this highly non-convex problem, we propose a two-stage hybrid transceiver design in conjunction with a novel block coordinate descent (BCD)-successive Riemannian conjugate gradient (SRCG) algorithm. We initially decompose the RF TPC, RC, and RM optimization problem into a series of sub-problems and subsequently design pairs of RF TPC and RC vectors, followed by successively optimizing the elements of the RM using the iterative BCD-SRCG algorithm. Furthermore, based on the effective baseband (BB) channel, the BB TPC and BB RC are designed using the proposed direct singular value decomposition (D-SVD) and projection based SVD (P-SVD) methods. Subsequently, the proportional water-filling solution is proposed for optimizing the power, which maximizes the weighted sum-SE of the system. Finally, simulation results are provided to compare our proposed schemes to several benchmarks and quantify the impact of other parameters on the sum-SE of the system. △ Less

Learning Vision-based Robotic Manipulation Tasks Sequentially in Offline Reinforcement Learning Settings

However, harnessing the full power of deep learning requires large datasets. Online-RL does not suit itself readily into this paradigm due to costly and time-taking agent environment interaction. Therefore recently, many offline-RL algorithms have been proposed to learn robotic tasks. But mainly, all such methods focus on a single task or multi-task learning, which requires retraining every time we need to learn a new task. Continuously learning tasks without forgetting previous knowledge combined with the power of offline deep-RL would allow us to scale the number of tasks by keep adding them one-after-another. In this paper, we investigate the effectiveness of regularisation-based methods like synaptic intelligence for sequentially learning image-based robotic manipulation tasks in an offline-RL setup. We evaluate the performance of this combined framework against common challenges of sequential learning: catastrophic forgetting and forward knowledge transfer. We performed experiments with different task combinations to analyze the effect of task ordering. We also investigated the effect of the number of object configurations and density of robot trajectories. We found that learning tasks sequentially helps in the propagation of knowledge from previous tasks, thereby reducing the time required to learn a new task. Regularisation based approaches for continuous learning like the synaptic intelligence method although helps in mitigating catastrophic forgetting but has shown only limited transfer of knowledge from previous tasks. △ Less

Due to human/machine errors, there are chances of having some missing values or inaccuracy, such as vagueness/uncertainty/hesitation in the collected data. In this situation, it will be difficult to measure the efficiencies of DMUs accurately. To overcome these shortcomings, a method is presented that can deal with missing values and inaccuracy in the data. To measure the performance efficiencies of DMUs, an input minimization BCC (IMBCC) model in a fully intuitionistic fuzzy (IF) environment is proposed. To validate the efficacy of the proposed fully intuitionistic fuzzy input minimization BCC (FIFIMBCC) model and the technique to deal with missing values in the data, a real-life application to measure the performance efficiencies of Indian police stations is presented. △ Less

Abstract: In this article, we consider a viscoelastic plate equation with past history, nonlinear dam**, and logarithmic nonlinearity. We prove explicit and general decay rate results of the solution to the viscoelastic plate equation with past history. Convex properties, logarithmic inequalities, and generalised Young's inequality are mainly used to prove the decay estimate.
