We present a Raman study of ZrAs_{2} single crystals, a nodal line semimetal with symmetry-enforced Dirac-like band crossings. We identified the symmetry of phonon modes by polarized light measurements and comparison with calculated phonon frequencies. Significant dependence of peak intensities on the excitation wavelength was observed, indicating quantum interference effects. Phonon peaks in the spectra are superimposed on the electronic background, with quasi-elastic scattering observed for the 785 nm excitation. We identified the Fano shape of the 171 cm^{-1} Ag mode due to interference of the phonon state with the electronic continuum. The temperature dependence of phonon peaks linewidth indicates that the electron-phonon coupling plays an essential role in phonon decay.

A systematic investigation has been performed by synthesis and comprehensive characterization of a series of SmFe1-xCuxAsO0.8F0.2 bulks (x = 0 to 0.2). These samples are well characterized by structural, Raman spectroscopy, microstructural, transport, magnetic measurements, and supplementary calculations within density functional theory (DFT). The parent compound, SmFeAsO0.8F0.2 (Sm1111), exhibits a superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of approximately 54 K. The lattice volume (V) is increased with Cu substitution (x) without observing any impurity phase related to copper, which confirms the successful incorporation of Cu at Fe sites in the superconducting FeAs layers. These analyses are also well in agreement with Raman spectroscopy measurements and relevant DFT results. The superconducting transition is decreased systematically with copper do** and completely suppressed for 7% Cu-doped Sm1111 (x = 0.07). A large amount of Cu substitution (x greater than 0.07) has demonstrated the metal to insulate transition in the low-temperature range, and no impurity phase was observed even at high Cu do** levels (x = 0.2). The calculated critical current density of the parent sample is suppressed with copper substitution, suggesting the reduced pinning centers, sample density, and grain connections, as confirmed by the microstructural analysis. Our studies suggest that the substitution of Cu in the superconducting FeAs layer, resulting the enlargement of the lattice volume, is a source of strong disorder scattering, leading to the suppression of Tc and the emergence of metal-to-insulator, unlike the more successful carrier do** by nickel (Ni) or cobalt (Co), as previously reported.

Topological nodal line semimetals (TSMs) represent a unique class of materials with intriguing electronic structures and rich of symmetries, hosting electronic states with non-trivial topological properties. Among these, ZrAs$_2$ stands out, characterized by its nodal lines forming continuous loops in momentum space, governed by non-symmorphic symmetries. This study integrates angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) with density functional theory (DFT) calculations to explore the electronic states of ZrAs$_2$. In ARPES scans, we observed a distinctive nodal loop structure observed at lower excitation energies of 30 and 50 eV. Our results, supported by calculations based on DFT, unveil symmetry-enforced Dirac-like band crossings anchored at specific points in the Brillouin zone, with particular emphasis on the S point. Surface bands and bulk states near the crossing are elucidated through slab calculations, corroborating experimental findings. DFT calculations also show the existence of several spin-orbit coupling (SOC) resilient semi-Dirac crossings pinned at Z point. This comprehensive investigation sheds light on the intricate electronic behaviors of ZrAs$_2$ with the involved symmetries, important for fundamental understanding of topological nodal line semimetals.

AeAFe4As4 (Ae = Ca, A = K; 1144) having a transition temperature of 35 K is a stoichiometric family of iron-based superconductors (FBS). Here, we present a detailed study of a high-pressure synthesis of CaKFe4As4 bulks to investigate the impact of these conditions on the superconducting properties of the 1144 family. Additionally, these samples are also prepared by conventional synthesis method at ambient pressure (CSP) and studied the influence of impurities on the superconducting properties of CaKFe4As4. Structural, microstructural, transport and magnetization measurements have been performed to reach the final conclusions. Interestingly, the high-pressure synthesis of the parent CaKFe4As4 compound enhances the transition temperature (Tc) by 2 K and the critical current density (Jc) by one order of magnitude in the whole magnetic field range of 9 T than that of the 1144 bulks prepared by CSP. It suggests the improvement of the pinning centers and grain connections by the high-pressure synthesis approach. Interestingly, our results depict the superconducting onset transition temperature (Tconset) of this stoichiometric 1144 family is robust with the presence of the common 122 (CaFe2As2 or KFe2As2) impurity phases, which is a different behavior compared to other FBS families. However, these impurity phases reduce the grain connections and lead to the phase separation during the formation of the superconducting (1144) phase.

High-pressure growth is a unique method to improve the sample quality and size. Here, we have used the high gas pressure and high-temperature synthesis (HP-HTS) method to grow CaKFe4As4 (1144) bulks and investigated their superconducting properties using structural, microstructural, transport, and magnetic studies. The microstructural analysis demonstrates that 1144 samples prepared by HP-HTS have improved the sample density and grain connectivity. The transition temperature (Tconset) of 1144 bulks prepared by HP-HTS is increased up to 35.2 K with a transition width (ΔT) of 1 K, which is remarkably comparable to the reported 1144 single crystal. Additionally, the critical current density (Jc) is enhanced by almost one order of magnitude compared with the parent compound prepared by the conventional synthesis process at ambient pressure (CSP), which could be attributed to the improved sample density and effective pinning centers. Our study demonstrates that the sample quality and superconducting properties of various iron-based superconductors can be enhanced by applying the HP-HTS approach, and further research is demanded in this direction.

Since the antimony (Sb) has a larger size than arsenic (As), the enhancement of lattice parameters has been confirmed by the XRD analysis. Microstructural analysis confirms that Sb-do** leads to a small improvement in the sample density and an increase in the inhomogeneity of the constituent elements, especially at higher Sb-do** levels. The parent compound SmFeAsO0.8F0.2 has shown the superconducting transition (Tc) at ~54 K, which is systematically reduced with the antimony do** contents (x). Our investigation indicates that the Sb-doped SmFeAs(O,F) phase at low levels is less prone to the multiphase formation than at high levels, which affects the inter- and intragranular behaviour originating from the microstructure nature of 1111 bulks. The critical current density (Jc) of the parent compound has almost the same value as previously reported, which is suppressed slowly with increased Sb-do**. It could be due to the reduced grain connections and the effective pinning centers. This study confirms that the superconducting FeAs layer do** with larger ions at arsenic sites does not support the superconducting properties of Sm1111, which is a distinct behavior from that of Sb-doped CeFeAs(O,F) and LaFeAs(O,F).

REFeAsO (RE1111; RE: rare earth) belongs to the 1111 family of iron-based superconductors (FBS), which illustrates the enhancement of the superconducting transition (Tc) with smaller radii of RE. However, the synthesis of the 1111 phase with a heavy rare-earth is always challenging. In this paper, we report the optimization of the growth and superconducting properties of F-doped GdFeAsO1-xFx bulks by preparing the samples in a wide temperature range (700-1100°C) at ambient pressure. The optimized synthesis parameters are concluded based on structural, microstructural, transport, and magnetic measurements. These findings suggest that the optimal conditions for preparing F-doped Gd1111 bulks involve a two-step process at 900°C for 61 hours at ambient pressure, which is lower than previously reported. The optimized samples have revealed the superconducting transition temperature (Tconset) of 43 K for GdFeAsO0.83F0.17. The first-time reported critical current Jc value for this Gd1111 is observed of the order of 10^3 (A/cm^2) at 0 T and 5 K. Our investigation also concluded that highly pure precursors, particularly gadolinium metal, are required to achieve the superconducting properties of F-doped Gd1111. A high growth pressure of 1 GPa reduces the superconducting properties of F-doped Gd1111.

High gas pressure and high-temperature synthesis methods (HP-HTS) are also applied to grow the parent compound (x = 0) and 5-wt% of Gd-added bulks. Structural, microstructural, transport and magnetic characterizations have been performed on these samples in order to draw the final conclusion. Our analysis results that the HP-HTS applied for the parent compound enhances the transition temperature (Tc) and the critical current density (Jc) with the improved sample density and intergrain connections. The lattice parameter c is increased with Gd additions, suggesting a small amount of Gd enters the tetragonal lattice of FeSe0.5Te0.5 and the Gd interstitial sites are along the c-axis. A systematic decrease of the onset transition temperature Tc is observed with Gd additions, however, the calculated Jc of these Gd-added samples is almost the same as that of the parent compound prepared by CSP. It specifies that there is no improvement of the grain connections or pinning properties due to these rare earth additions. However, Gd-added FeSe0.5Te0.5 bulks prepared by HP-HTS have revealed a slightly improved critical current density due to improved grain connections and sample density but have a lower transition temperature than that of the parent compounds.

We have investigated the effects of lead (Pb) additions (x) up to 40 wt.% (x = 0-0.4) on the structure, electrical properties, and magnetic properties of FeSe0.5Te0.5 superconductor. The samples were prepared by the solid-state reaction method and characterized by various techniques. The parent compound (x = 0) showed the onset temperature Tc onset of 15 K, and zero-resistance temperature, Tc offset of 12 K. The addition of Pb enhances the metallic characteristics of FeSe0.5Te0.5, but both Tc onset and Tc offset are decreased to the lower temperature with the broadened transition width. The Tc onset is nearly the same (10.3 K) at higher additions, such as x = 0.3 and 0.4, but zero resistivity is not observed up to 7 K. Microstructural analysis and transport studies suggest that for x > 0.05, Pb additions weakened the coupling between grains and suppressed the superconducting percolation, leading to a broad transition. More importantly, the inclusion of a relatively small amount of Pb (x = 0.05) increased the critical current density, Jc, in the entire magnetic field, which might be attributable to better phase uniformity as well as good grain connectivity.

A series of Pb and Sn added FeSe0.5Te0.5 (FeSe0.5Te0.5 + xPb + ySn; x = y = 0-0.1) bulks are fabricated by solid-state reaction method and characterized through various measurements. A very small amount of Sn and Pb additions enhance the transition temperature (Tconset) of pure FeSe0.5Te0.5 by 1 K, sharpening the superconducting transition and improving the metallic nature in the normal state, whereas larger metal additions reduce Tconset by broadening the superconducting transition. Microstructural analysis and transport studies suggest that at x=y>0.02, Pb and Sn additions enhance the impurity phases, reduce the coupling between grains, and suppress the superconducting percolation, leading to a broad transition. FeSe0.5Te0.5 samples with 2wt% of cometal additions show the best performance with their critical current density, Jc, and the pinning force, Fp, which might be attributable to providing effective flux pinning centres. Our study shows that the inclusion of a relatively small amount of Pb and Sn works effectively for the enhancement of superconducting properties with an improvement of intergrain connections as well as better phase uniformity.

Ex-situ and in-situ processes are used to prepare bulk samples under a range of growth pressures using Ta-tube and without Tatube. The parent compound synthesized by convenient synthesis method at ambient pressure (CSP) exhibits a superconducting transition temperature of 14.8 K. Our data demonstrate that the prepared FeSe0.5Te0.5 sealed in a Ta-tube is of better quality than the samples without a Ta-tube, and the optimum growth conditions (500 MPa, 600°C for 1 h) are favourable for the development of the tetragonal FeSe0.5Te0.5 phase. The optimum bulk FeSe0.5Te0.5 depicts a higher transition temperature of 17.3 K and a high critical current density of the order of >10^4 A/cm^2 at 0 T, which is improved over the entire magnetic field range and almost twice higher than the parent compound prepared through CSP. Our studies confirm that the high-pressure synthesis method is a highly efficient way to improve the superconducting transition, grain connectivity, sample density, and also pinning properties of a superconductor.

Trimeron lattice excitations in single crystalline magnetite, in the form of the $c$ axis switching (i.e. the reorganization of the lattice caused by external magnetic field) at temperatures below the Verwey temperature $T_V$ are observed by magnetization experiments. These excitations exhibit strong sensitivity to do** (with Zn, Al, and Ti), nonstoichiometry and hydrostatic pressure ($p < 1.2$ GPa). The considered indicators of the axis switching (AS) are: the switching field $B_{sw}$, the energy density needed to switch the axis $E_{sw}$ and the activation energy $U$. Our results show that hydrostatic pressure $p$ weakens the low$-T$ magnetite structure (decreases $T_V$) and has roughly similar effects on AS in Zn-doped Fe$_3$O$_4$ and, in much less extent, in stoichiometric magnetite. We have, however, found that while do**/nonstoichiometry also lowers $T_V$, making it more prone to temperature chaos, it drastically increases the switching field, activation and switching energies suggesting that the trimeron order, subject to change while AS occurs, is more robust. Consequently, we conclude that the manipulation of trimerons in the process of axis switching and the mechanisms leading to the Verwey transition are distinct phenomena.

Studies of the Fermi surface modification after in-situ covering NbP semimetal with heavy elements Pb and Nb ultrathin layers were performed by means of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). First, the electronic structure was investigated for pristine single crystals with two possible terminations (P and Nb) of the (0 0 1) surface. The nature of the electronic states of these two cleaving planes is different: P-terminated surface shows spoon and bow tie shaped fingerprints, whereas these shapes are not present in Nb-terminated surfaces. ARPES studies show that even 1 monolayer (ML) of Pb causes topological quantum Lifshitz transition (TQLT) in P- and Nb-terminated surfaces. Deposited Pb 5d electrons have wide extended atomic orbitals which leads to strong hybridization with Pb-terminated surface and a corresponding shift in the Fermi energy. Nb has less capability to perturb the system than Pb because Nb has weaker spin-orbit coupling than Pb. Nb-terminated surface subjected to surface decoration with approximately 1.3 ML of Nb shows no dramatic modification in the Fermi surface. In the case of Nb decorated P-terminated surface, deposition of approximately 1 ML modifies the electronic structure of NbP and it is on the verge of TQLT. Despite the strong spin-orbit and strong hybridization of the heavy elements on the surface, it is possible to observe the TQLT of the surface states thanks to the robustness of the bulk topology.

The fast Fourier transform (FFT) of the oscillatory Nernst signal shows two fundamental frequencies, Fa = 105 T and Fb = 221 T, and the second harmonic of the latter (F2b = 442 T). The ratio between FFT amplitudes of Fb and F2b changes with temperature in an unusual way, indicating that we observe the spin-zero effect caused by temperature change. This is likely related to substantial temperature dependence of the Lande g-factor, which in turn can result from non-parabolic energy dispersion or temperature evolution of the spin-orbit coupling.

We have performed electron transport and ARPES measurements on single crystals of transition metal dipnictide TaAs2 cleaved along the ($\overline{2}$ 0 1) surface which has the lowest cleavage energy. A Fourier transform of the Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations shows four different peaks whose angular dependence was studied with respect to the angle between the magnetic field and the [$\overline{2}$ 0 1] direction. The results indicate the elliptical shape of the Fermi surface cross-sections. Additionally, a mobility spectrum analysis was carried out, which also reveals at least four types of carriers contributing to the conductance (two kinds of electrons and two kinds of holes). ARPES spectra were taken on freshly cleaved ($\overline{2}$ 0 1) surface and it was found that bulk states pockets at the constant energy surface are elliptical, which confirms the magnetotransport angle dependent studies. First-principles calculations support the interpretation of the experimental results. The theoretical calculations better reproduce the ARPES data if the theoretical Fermi level is increased, which is due to a small n-do** of the samples. This shifts the Fermi level closer to the Dirac point, allowing to investigate the physics of the Dirac and Weyl points, making this compound a platform for the investigation of the Dirac and Weyl points in three-dimensional materials.

An increase in the volume-averaged effective pinning potential (and the associated critical current density) after the process of hydrogen sorption at temperatures up to 150 °C - 200 °C can be explained by the appearance of additional pinning centers due to the local action of implanted H ions on its crystal structure and electronic states. It was confirmed that hydrogenation is an efficient tool for increasing flux pining properties of superconductors.

Namely, using flips with centers in closures of Białynicki-Birula cells, we produce a system of birational equivariant modifications of the original variety, which includes those on which a quotient map extends from a set of semistable points to a regular morphism.
The structure of the modifications is completely described for the blowup along the sink and the source of smooth varieties with Picard number one with a ${\mathbb C}^*$-action which has no finite isotropy for any point. Examples can be constructed upon homogeneous varieties with a ${\mathbb C}^*$-action associated to short grading of their Lie algebras.

As a main tool, we define birational geometric counterparts of these actions, that, under certain assumptions, encode the information necessary to reconstruct them. The possibility of inducing superconductivity in type-I Weyl semimetal through coupling its surface to a superconductor was investigated. A single crystal of NbP, grown by chemical vapor transport method, was carefully characterized by XRD, EDX, SEM, ARPES techniques and by electron transport measurements. The mobility spectrum of the carriers was determined. For the studies of interface transmission, the (001) surface of the crystal was covered by several hundred nm thick metallic layers of either Pb, or Nb, or In. DC current-voltage characteristics and AC differential conductance through the interfaces as a function of the DC bias were investigated. When the metals become superconducting, all three types of junctions show conductance increase, pointing out the Andreev reflection as a prevalent contribution to the subgap conductance. In the case of Pb-NbP and Nb-NbP junctions, the effect is satisfactorily described by modified Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk model. The absolute value of the conductance is much smaller than that for the bulk crystal, indicating that the transmission occurs through only a small part of the contact area. An opposite situation occurs in In-NbP junction, where the conductance at the peak reaches the bulk value indicating that almost whole contact area is transmitting and, additionally, a superconducting proximity phase is formed in the material. We interpret this as a result of indium diffusion into NbP, where the metal atoms penetrate the surface barrier and form very transparent superconductor-Weyl semimetal contact inside. However, further diffusion occurring already at room temperature leads to degradation of the effect, so it is observed only in the pristine structures. Despite of this, our observation directly demonstrates possibility of inducing superconductivity in a type-I Weyl semimetal.

We prove the LeBrun-Salamon Conjecture in low dimensions. More precisely, we show that a contact Fano manifold X of dimension 2n+1 that has reductive automorphism group of rank at least n-2 is necessarily homogeneous. This implies that any positive quaternion-Kahler manifold of real dimension at most 16 is necessarily a symmetric space, one of the Wolf spaces. A similar result about contact Fano manifolds of dimension at most 9 with reductive automorphism group also holds. The main difficulty in approaching the conjecture is how to recognize a homogeneous space in an abstract variety. We contribute to such problem in general, by studying the action of algebraic torus on varieties and exploiting Bialynicki-Birula decomposition and equivariant Riemann-Roch theorems. From the point of view of T-varieties (that is, varieties with a torus action), our result is about high complexity T-manifolds. The complexity here is at most 1/2(dim X+5) with dim X arbitrarily high, but we require this special (contact) structure of X. Previous methods for studying T-varieties in general usually only apply for complexity at most 2 or 3.

The issue concerning the nature and the role of microstructural inhomogeneities in iron chalcogenide superconducting crystals of FeTe0.65Se0.35 and their correlation with transport properties of this system was addressed. Presented data demonstrate that chemical disorder originating from the kinetics of the crystal growth process significantly influences the superconducting properties of an Fe-Te-Se system. Transport measurements of the transition temperature and critical current density performed for microscopic bridges allow us to deduce the local properties of a superconductor with microstructural inhomogeneities, and significant differences were noted. The variances observed in the local properties were explained as a consequence of weak superconducting links existing in the studied crystals. The results confirm that inhomogeneous spatial distribution of ions and small hexagonal symmetry nanoscale regions with nanoscale phase separation also seem to enhance the superconductivity in this system with respect to the values of the critical current density. Magnetic measurements confirm the conclusions drawn from the transport measurements.

We provide a construction of 81 symplectic resolutions of a 4-dimensional quotient singularity obtained by an action of a group of order 32. The existence of such resolutions is known by a result of Bellamy and Schedler. Our explicit construction is obtained via GIT quotient of the spectrum of a ring graded in the Picard group generated by the divisors associated to the conjugacy classes of symplectic reflections of the group in question. As the result we infer the geometric structure of these resolutions and their flops. Moreover, we represent the group in question as a group of automorphisms of an abelian 4-fold so that the resulting quotient has singularities with symplectic resolutions. This yields a new Kummer-type symplectic 4-fold.

We have found pressure-induced enhancement of all of the superconducting state properties, which entails a growth of the density of superconducting carriers. However, we noticed more pronounced increase in superconducting carrier density under pressure than that in the critical temperature what may indicate an appearance of a mechanism limiting the increase of Tc with pressure. We have observed that the critical current density increases under pressure by at least one order of magnitude.

We studied the critical state stability in a large cubic sample of a single crystalline La(1.85)Sr(0.15)CuO(4) for different sample orientations with respect to the external magnetic field as well as the dynamics of the flux jumps. It is shown that thermomagnetic avalanches develop in dynamic conditions characterized by significantly lower magnetic diffusivity than the thermal one. In this case, critical state stability depends strongly on cooling conditions. We compared predictions of the isothermal model and of the model for the weakly cooled sample with experimental results. In both models, the field of the first flux jump decreases with an increase of sweep rate of the external magnetic field. We also investigated the influence of external magnetic field on the dynamics of the following stages of the thermomagnetic avalanche. It is shown that the dynamics of the flux jumps is correlated with the magnetic diffusivity proportional to the flux flow resistivity.

In this paper, we address a number of outstanding issues concerning the nature and the role of magnetic inhomogenities in the iron chalcogenide system FeTe1-xSex and their correlation with superconductivity in this system. We report morphology of superconducting single crystals of FeTe0.65Se0.35 studied with transmission electron microscopy, high angle annular dark field scanning transmission electron microscopy and their magnetic and superconducting properties characterized with magnetization, specific heat and magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Our data demonstrate a presence of nanometre scale hexagonal regions coexisting with tetragonal host lattice, a chemical disorder demonstrating non homogeneous distribution of host atoms in the crystal lattice, as well as hundreds-of-nanometres-long iron-deficient bands. From magnetic data and ferromagnetic resonance temperature dependence, we attribute magnetic phases in Fe-Te-Se to Fe3O4 inclusions and to hexagonal symmetry nanometre scale regions with structure of Fe7Se8 type. Our results suggest that nonhomogeneous distribution of host atoms might be an intrinsic feature of superconducting Fe-Te-Se chalcogenides and we find a surprising correlation indicating that faster grown crystal of inferior crystallographic properties is a better superconductor.

Presented temperature dependence of the hyperfine parameters can be explained as due to possible orthorhombic distortion or to temperature behaviour of impurity phases Fe3O4 and Fe7Se8. Strong tendency to formation of crystalline texture of powdered sample is observed.

Specific heat, magnetic torque, and magnetization studies of LiCoPO4 olivine are presented. They show that an unique set of physical properties of LiCoPO4 leads to the appearance of features characteristic of 2D Ising systems near the Neel temperature, T_N =21.6 K, and to the appearance of an uncommon effect of influence of magnetic field on the magnetocrystalline anisotropy. The latter effect manifests itself as a first-order transition, discovered at ~9 K, induced by magnetic field of 8 T. Physical nature of this transition was explained and a model describing experimental dependences satisfactorily was proposed.

A generalized Euler sequence over a complete normal variety X is the unique extension of the trivial bundle V \otimes O_X by the sheaf of differentials Ω_X, given by the inclusion of a linear space V in Ext^1(O_X,Ω_X). For Λ, a lattice of Cartier divisors, let R_Λdenote the corresponding sheaf associated to V spanned by the first Chern classes of divisors in Λ. We prove that any projective, smooth variety on which the bundle R_Λsplits into a direct sum of line bundles is toric. We describe the bundle R_Λin terms of the sheaf of differentials on the characteristic space of the Cox ring, provided it is finitely generated. Moreover, we relate the finiteness of the module of sections of R_Λand of the Cox ring of Λ.

Local symplectic contractions are resolutions of singularities which admit symplectic forms. Four dimensional symplectic contractions are (relative) Mori Dream Spaces. In particular, any two such resolutions of a given singularity are connected by a sequence of Mukai flops. We discuss the cone of movable divisors on such a resolution; its faces are determined by curves whose loci are divisors, we call them essential curves. The movable cone is divided into nef chambers which are related to different resolutions; this subdivision is determined by classes of 1-cycles. We also study schemes parametrizing minimal essential curves and show that they are resolutions, possibly non-minimal, of surface Du Val singularities. Some examples, with an exhaustive description, are provided.

It has been found that the sharpness of transition to the superconducting state in FeTe1 xSex is evidently inversely correlated with crystallographic quality of the crystals. Among all of the studied dopants only Co, Ni and Cu substitute Fe ions in FeTe0.65Se0.35 crystals. The remaining examined ions do not incorporate into the crystal structure. Nevertheless, they form inclusions together with selenium, tellurium and/or iron, what changes the chemical composition of host matrix and therefore influences Tc value. Small disorder introduced into magnetic sublattice, by partial replacement of Fe ions by slight amount of nonmagnetic ions of Cu (~ 1.5 at%) or by magnetic ions of Ni (~ 2 at%) and Co (~5 at%) with spin value different than that of Fe ion, completely suppresses superconductivity in FeTe1 xSex system. This indicates that even if superconductivity is observed in the system containing magnetic ions it can not survive when the disorder in magnetic ions sublattice is introduced, most likely because of magnetic scattering of Cooper pairs.

The measurements were performed on four underdoped single crystals with oxygen contents corresponding to Tc's varying from 42.8 to 63.6 K. The anisotropy was found to be strongly temperature dependent, while only a weak dependence on the magnetic field was observed. No evidence for a field dependent superfluid density was found. Possible origins of the temperature dependence of the anisotropy are discussed.

Iron-chalcogenide single crystals with the nominal composition FeSe$_{0.5}$Te$_{0.5}$ and a transition temperature of $T_{c}\simeq14.6$ K were synthesized by the Bridgman method. The structural and anisotropic superconducting properties of those crystals were investigated by means of single crystal X-ray and neutron powder diffraction, SQUID and torque magnetometry, and muon-spin rotation. Room temperature neutron powder diffraction reveals that 95% of the crystal volume is of the same tetragonal structure as PbO. The structure refinement yields a stoichiometry of Fe_1.045Se_0.406Te_0.594. Additionally, a minor hexagonal Fe_7Se_8 impurity phase was identified. The magnetic penetration depth λat zero temperature was found to be 491(8) nm in the ab-plane and 1320(14) nm along the c-axis. The zero-temperature value of the superfluid density ρ_s(0) λ^-2(0) obeys the empirical Uemura relation observed for various unconventional superconductors, including cuprates and iron-pnictides. The temperature dependences of both λ_ab and λ_c are well described by a two-gap s+s-wave model with the zero-temperature gap values of Δ_S(0)=0.51(3) meV and Δ_L(0)=2.61(9) meV for the small and the large gap, respectively. The magnetic penetration depth anisotropy parameter γ_λ(T)=λ_c(T)/λ_{ab}(T) increases with decreasing temperature, in agreement with γ_λ(T) observed in the iron-pnictide superconductors.

The influence of low-level Pr substitution in Y1-xPrxBa2Cu3O(7-delta) single crystals on the anisotropy of the superconducting state parameters was investigated by torque magnetometry in magnetic fields of up to 9 T. An averaged anisotropy parameter, γ, of 7.4 was found and no influence of the Pr ion concentration on γwas observed up to a Pr content of 2.4%. A pronounced maximum at angles between 0.5 and 1 degree out of the ab-plane was observed in all crystals in the irreversible angular dependence of the torque. This maximum is attributed to intrinsic pinning associated with kinked vortices. The variation of the irreversible torque with the substitution level indicates the influence of the Pr content on pinning within the CuO2 planes, even though the anisotropy of the superconducting state parameters is not affected.

Magnetic properties of polycrystalline Sm0.1Ca0.84Sr0.06MnO3 in pristine and metastable states have been investigated in wide range of temperatures and magnetic fields. It was found that below Curie temperature TC = 105 K the pristine state exhibits phase separation comprising ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic phases. The metastable states with reduced magnetization were obtained by successive number of quick coolings of the sample placed in container with kerosene-oil mixture. By an increasing number of quick coolings (> 6) the long time relaxation appeared at 10 K and the magnetization reversed its sign and became strongly negative in wide temperature range, even under an applied magnetic field of 15 kOe. The observed field and temperature dependences of the magnetization in this state are reversed in comparison with the ordinary ferromagnetic ones. Above TC, the observed diamagnetic susceptibility of the reversed magnetization state at T = 120 K is ~ - 0.9 x 10-4 emu g-1 Oe-1. Only after some storage time at room temperature, the abnormal magnetic state is erasable. It is suggested that the negative magnetization observed results from a specific coupling of the nano/micro-size ferromagnetic regions with a surrounding diamagnetic matrix formed, in a puzzled way, by the repeating training (quick cooling) cycles.
