It is essential to have a method to map an unknown terrain for various applications. For places where human access is not possible, a method should be proposed to identify the environment. Exploration, disaster relief, transportation and many other purposes would be convenient if a map of the environment is available. Replicating the human vision system using stereo cameras would be an optimum solution. In this work, we have used laser ranging based technique fused with stereo cameras to extract dimension of objects for map**. The distortions were calibrated using mathematical model of the camera. By means of Semi Global Block Matching [1] disparity map was generated and reduces the noise using novel noise reduction method of disparity map by dilation. The Data from the Laser Range Finder (LRF) and noise reduced vision data has been used to identify the object parameters.

This work describes the implementation of a simple and computationally efficient Intelligent Navigation System (INS) for autonomous systems used in areas where human access is impossible. The system uses Laser Range Finder (LRF) readings as input, making it suitable for mobile platform implementation. The INS pre-processes the LRF readings to remove noise and determines an obstacle-free path for map**. The system's localization method uses a similarity transform and particle filter. The system was tested in artificially generated environments and emulated in real-time with real-environment data. The system was then implemented in a Raspberry Pi3 on a 3WD Omni-directional mobile platform and tested in real environments. The system was able to generate an accurate 2D map of the area. The proposed methodology was shown to be efficient through a comparative analysis of execution time.

Parents are always worried about the wellbeing of their children. As per the Statistics Report 2017 by Missing Children Europe Organization, a child is reported missing every 2 minutes. Due to the imminent threat, parents are prone to buy their children mobile phones to keep in touch with them. However, giving a Mobile phone to a child can cause issues including cyber bullying, improper use of social networks, access to mature age and illicit content on the internet and possibly, phone theft. As an effort to tackle some of those issues, this paper proposes a solution which enables parents to call, locate and track their children using a child-friendly mobile device. The common scenario the device would come to play is in enhancing the safety of a child who would travel alone on a typical route; for instance a child who walks from home to school and back. The device can be calibrated to keep track of a typical route of travel. Then, if the device de-tects some deviation from the usual route, it would trigger a notification to parents. A probability matrix based nov-el algorithm is introduced to detect route deviation. De-sign details of the mobile device, along with the details of the route deviation detection algorithm are presented in this paper.

A spherical robot consists of an externally spherical rigid body rolling on a two-dimensional surface, actuated by an auxiliary mechanism. For a class of actuation mechanisms, we derive a controller for the geometric center of the sphere to asymptotically track any sufficiently smooth reference trajectory, with robustness to bounded, constant uncertainties in the inertial properties of the sphere and actuation mechanism, and to constant disturbance forces including, for example, from constant inclination of the rolling surface. The sphere and actuator are modeled as distinct systems, coupled by reaction forces. It is assumed that the actuator can provide three independent control torques, and that the actuator center of mass remains at a constant distance from the geometric center of the sphere. We show that a necessary and sufficient condition for such a controller to exist is that for any constant disturbance torque acting on the sphere there is a constant input such that the sphere and the actuator mechanism has a stable relative equilibrium. A geometric PID controller guarantees robust, semi-global, locally exponential stability for the position tracking error of the geometric center of the sphere, while ensuring that actuator velocities are bounded.
