Radio Frequency Reinforcement Learning (RFRL) is anticipated to be a widely applicable technology in the next generation of wireless communication systems, particularly 6G and next-gen military communications. Given this, our research is focused on develo** a tool to promote the development of RFRL techniques that leverage spectrum sensing. In particular, the tool was designed to address two cognitive radio applications, specifically dynamic spectrum access and jamming. In order to train and test reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms for these applications, a simulation environment is necessary to simulate the conditions that an agent will encounter within the Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum. In this paper, such an environment has been developed, herein referred to as the RFRL Gym. Through the RFRL Gym, users can design their own scenarios to model what an RL agent may encounter within the RF spectrum as well as experiment with different spectrum sensing techniques. Additionally, the RFRL Gym is a subclass of OpenAI gym, enabling the use of third-party ML/RL Libraries. We plan to open-source this codebase to enable other researchers to utilize the RFRL Gym to test their own scenarios and RL algorithms, ultimately leading to the advancement of RL research in the wireless communications domain. This paper describes in further detail the components of the Gym, results from example scenarios, and plans for future additions.

This work presents a strongly coupled partitioned method for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems based on a monolithic formulation of the system which employs a Lagrange multiplier. We prove that both the semi-discrete and fully discrete formulations are well-posed. To derive a partitioned scheme, a Schur complement equation, which implicitly expresses the Lagrange multiplier and the fluid pressure in terms of the fluid velocity and structural displacement, is constructed based on the monolithic FSI system. Solving the Schur complement system at each time step allows for the decoupling of the fluid and structure subproblems, making the method non-iterative between subdomains. We investigate bounds for the condition number of the Schur complement matrix and present initial numerical results to demonstrate the performance of our approach, which attains the expected convergence rates.

We provide a definition of a $\prec$-asymptotic pair in a topological action of a countable group $G$, where $\prec$ is an order on $G$ of type $\mathbb Z$. We then prove that if $G$ is a countable amenable group and $(X,G)$ is a topological $G$-action of positive entropy, then for every multiorder $(\tilde{\mathcal O},ν,G)$ and $ν$-almost every order $\prec\,\in\tilde{\mathcal O}$ there exists a $\prec$-asympotic pair in $X$. This result is a generalization of the Blanchard-Host-Ruette Theorem for classical topological dynamical systems (actions of~$\mathbb Z$). We also prove that for every countable amenable group $G$, and every multiorder on $G$ arising from a tiling system, every topological $G$-action of entropy zero has an extension which has no $\prec$-asymptotic pairs for any $\prec$ belonging to this multiorder. Together, these two theorems give a characterization of topological $G$-actions of entropy zero: $(X,G)$ has topological entropy zero if and only if, for any multiorder $\tilde{\mathcal O}_{\boldsymbol{\mathsf T}}$ on $G$ arising from a tiling system of entropy zero, there exists an extension $(Y,G)$ of $(X,G)$, which has no $\prec$-asymptotic pairs for any $\prec\,\in\tilde{\mathcal O}_{\boldsymbol{\mathsf T}}$, equivalently, there exists a multiorder $(\tilde{\mathcal O},ν,G)$ on $G$, such that for $ν$-almost any $\prec\,\in\tilde{\mathcal O}$, there are no $\prec$-asymptotic pairs in $(Y,G)$.

Buildings directly and indirectly emit a large share of current CO2 emissions. There is a high potential for CO2 savings through modern control methods in building automation systems (BAS) like model predictive control (MPC). For a proper control, MPC needs mathematical models to predict the future behavior of the controlled system. For this purpose, digital twins of the building can be used. However, with current methods in existing buildings, a digital twin set up is usually labor-intensive. Especially connecting the different components of the technical system to an overall digital twin of the building is time-consuming. Pi** and instrument diagrams (P&ID) can provide the needed information, but it is necessary to extract the information and provide it in a standardized format to process it further.
In this work, we present an approach to recognize symbols and connections of P&ID from buildings in a completely automated way. There are various standards for graphical representation of symbols in P&ID of building energy systems. Therefore, we use different data sources and standards to generate a holistic training data set. We apply algorithms for symbol recognition, line recognition and derivation of connections to the data sets. Furthermore, the result is exported to a format that provides semantics of building energy systems.
The symbol recognition, line recognition and connection recognition show good results with an average precision of 93.7%, which can be used in further processes like control generation, (distributed) model predictive control or fault detection. Nevertheless, the approach needs further research.

The paper offers a thorough study of multiorders and their applications to measure-preserving actions of countable amenable groups. By a~{\em multiorder} on a~countable group we mean any probability measure $ν$ on the collection $\tilde{\mathcal{O}}$ of linear orders of type $\mathbb Z$ on $G$, invariant under the natural action of $G$ on such orders. Every free measure-preserving $G$-action $(X,μ,G)$ has a~multiorder $(\tilde{\mathcal{O}},ν,G)$ as a factor and has the same orbits as the $\mathbb Z$-action $(X,μ,S)$, where $S$ is the \emph{successor map} determined by the multiorder factor. Moreover, the sub-sigma-algebra $Σ_{\tilde{\mathcal{O}}}$ associated with the multiorder factor is invariant under $S$, which makes the corresponding $\mathbb Z$-action $(\tilde{\mathcal{O}},ν,\tilde S)$ a factor of $(X,μ,S)$. We prove that the entropy of any $G$-process generated by a finite partition of $X$, conditional with respect to $Σ_{\tilde{\mathcal{O}}}$, is preserved by the orbit equivalence with $(X,μ,S)$. Furthermore, this entropy can be computed in terms of the so-called random past, by a formula analogous to $ h(μ,T,\mathcal P)=H(μ,\mathcal P|\mathcal{P}^-)$ known for $\mathbb Z$-actions. The above fact is then applied to prove a variant of a result by Rudolph and Weiss. The original theorem states that orbit equivalence between free actions of countable amenable groups preserves conditional entropy with respect to a~sub-sigma-algebra $Σ$, as soon as the ``orbit change'' is measurable with respect to $Σ$. In our variant, we replace the measurability assumption by a~simpler one: $Σ$ should be invariant under both actions and the actions on the resulting factor should be free. In conclusion we provide a characterization of the Pinsker sigma-algebra of any $G$-process in terms of an appropriately defined remote past arising from a multiorder.

Consider a subshift over a finite alphabet, $X\subset Λ^{\mathbb Z}$ (or $X\subsetΛ^{\mathbb N_0}$). With each finite block $B\inΛ^k$ appearing in $X$ we associate the empirical measure ascribing to every block $C\inΛ^l$ the frequency of occurrences of $C$ in $B$. By comparing the values ascribed to blocks $C$ we define a metric on the combined space of blocks $B$ and probability measures $μ$ on $X$, whose restriction to the space of measures is compatible with the weak-$\star$ topology. Next, in this combined metric space we fix an open set $\mathcal U$ containing all ergodic measures, and we say that a block $B$ is "ergodic" if $B\in\mathcal U$.
In this paper we prove the following main result: Given $\varepsilon>0$, every $x\in X$ decomposes as a concatenation of blocks of bounded lengths in such a way that, after ignoring a set $M$ of coordinates of upper Banach density smaller than $\varepsilon$, all blocks in the decomposition are ergodic. The second main result concerns subshifts whose set of ergodic measures is closed. We show that, in this case, no matter how $x\in X$ is partitioned into blocks (as long as their lengths are sufficiently large and bounded), after ignoring a set $M$ of upper Banach density smaller than $\varepsilon$, all blocks in the decomposition are ergodic. The first half of the paper is concluded by examples showing, among other things, that the small set $M$, in both main theorems, cannot be avoided.
The second half of the paper is devoted to generalizing the two main results described above to subshifts $X\subsetΛ^G$ with the action of a countable amenable group $G$. The role of long blocks is played by blocks whose domains are members of a Følner sequence while the decomposition of $x\in X$ into blocks (of which majority is ergodic) is obtained with the help of a congruent system of tilings.

The next generation of Cherenkov telescope cameras feature Silicon Photo Multipliers (SiPM), which can guarantee excellent performance and allow for observation also under moonlight, increasing duty-cycle and therefore the physics reach. A 4 m-diameter Davies-Cotton prototype telescope with a 9-degree optical FoV and a 1296-pixel SiPM camera, has been designed to meet the requirements of the next generation of ground-based gamma-ray observatories at the highest energies.
The large-scale production of the telescopes for array deployment has required the development of a fully automated calibration strategy which relies on a dedicated hardware, the Camera Test Setup (CTS). For each camera pixel, the CTS is equipped with two LEDs, one operated in pulsed mode to reproduce signal and one in continuous mode to reproduce night-sky background.
In this contribution we will present the camera calibration strategy, from the laboratory measurement to the on-site monitoring with emphasis on the results obtained with the first camera prototype. In addition, key performances such as charge resolution, time resolution and trigger efficiencies and their degradation with increasing night-sky background level will be presented.

This article focuses on the optimization of a complex system which is composed of several subsystems. On the one hand, these subsystems are subject to multiple objectives, local constraints as well as local variables, and they are associated with an own, subsystem-dependent decision maker. On the other hand, these subsystems are interconnected to each other by global variables or linking constraints. Due to these interdependencies, it is in general not possible to simply optimize each subsystem individually to improve the performance of the overall system. This article introduces a formal graph-based representation of such complex systems and generalizes the classical notions of feasibility and optimality to match this complex situation. Moreover, several algorithmic approaches are suggested and analyzed.

The SST-1M control software of all subsystems (active mirror control, drive system, safety system, photo-detection plane, DigiCam, CCD cameras) and the whole telescope itself (master controller) uses the standard software design proposed for all CTA telescopes based on the ALMA Common Software (ACS) developed to control the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA). Each subsystem is represented by a separate ACS component, which handles the communication to and the operation of the subsystem. Interfacing with the actual hardware is performed via the OPC UA communication protocol, supported either natively by dedicated industrial standard servers (PLCs) or separate service applications developed to wrap lower level protocols (e.g. CAN bus, camera slow control) into OPC UA. Early operations of the telescope without the camera were already carried out. The camera is fully assembled and is capable to perform data acquisition using artificial light source.

About 70 SST telescopes will be part the CTA southern array which will also include Medium Sized Telescopes (MST) in its threshold configuration. Optimized for the detection of gamma rays in the energy range from 5 TeV to 300 TeV, the SST-1M uses a Davies-Cotton optics with a 4 m dish diameter with a field of view of 9 degrees. The Cherenkov light resulting from the interaction of the gamma-rays in the atmosphere is focused onto a 88 cm side-to-side hexagonal photo-detection plane. The latter is composed of 1296 hollow light guides coupled to large area hexagonal silicon photomultipliers (SiPM). The SiPM readout is fully digital readout as for the trigger system. The compact and lightweight design of the SST-1M camera offers very high performance ideal for gamma-ray observation requirement. In this contribution, the concept, design, performance and status of the first telescope prototype are presented.

Since the SST sub-array will consist of up to 70 telescopes, the challenge is not only to build a telescope with excellent performance, but also to design it so that its components can be commissioned, assembled and tested by industry. In this paper we review the basic steps that led to the design concepts for the SST-1M camera and the ongoing realization of the first prototype, with focus on the innovative solutions adopted for the photodetector plane and the readout and trigger parts of the camera. Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs) are ground-based instruments devoted to the study of very high energy gamma-rays coming from space. The detection technique consists of observing images created by the Cherenkov light emitted when gamma rays, or more generally cosmic rays, propagate through the atmosphere. While in the case of protons or gamma-rays the images present a filled and more or less elongated shape, energetic muons penetrating the atmosphere are visualised as characteristic circular rings or arcs. A relatively simple analysis of the ring images allows the reconstruction of all the relevant parameters of the detected muons, such as the energy, the impact parameter, and the incoming direction, with the final aim to use them to calibrate the total optical throughput of the given IACT telescope. We present the results of preliminary studies on the use of images created by muons as optical throughput calibrators of the single mirror small size telescope prototype SST-1M proposed for the Cherenkov Telescope Array.

The Small-Size Telescope with single-mirror (SST-1M) is a 4 m Davies-Cotton telescope and is among the proposed telescope designs for the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA). It is conceived to provide the high-energy ($>$ few TeV) coverage. The SST-1M contains proven technology for the telescope structure and innovative electronics and photosensors for the camera. Its design is meant to be simple, low-budget and easy-to-build industrially.
Each device subsystem of an SST-1M telescope is made visible to CTA through a dedicated industrial standard server. The software is being developed in collaboration with the CTA Medium-Size Telescopes to ensure compatibility and uniformity of the array control. Early operations of the SST-1M prototype will be performed with a subset of the CTA central array control system based on the Alma Common Software (ACS). The triggered event data are time stamped, formatted and finally transmitted to the CTA data acquisition.
The software system developed to control the devices of an SST-1M telescope is described, as well as the interface between the telescope abstraction to the CTA central control and the data acquisition system.

The prototype of a Davies-Cotton small size telescope (SST-1M) has been designed and developed by a consortium of Polish and Swiss institutions and proposed for the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) observatory. The main purpose of the optical system is to focus the Cherenkov light emitted by extensive air showers in the atmosphere onto the focal plane detectors. The main component of the system is a dish consisting of 18 hexagonal mirrors with a total effective collection area of 6.47 m2 (including the shadowing and estimated mirror reflectivity). Such a solution was chosen taking into account the analysis of the Cherenkov light propagation and based on optical simulations. The proper curvature and stability of the dish is ensured by the mirror alignment system and the isostatic interface to the telescope structure. Here we present the design of the optical subsystem together with the performance measurements of its components.

The SST-1M prototype structure is currently being constructed at the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Cracow, Poland, while the camera will be assembled at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. This prototype enables measurements of parameters having a decisive influence on the telescope performance. We present results of numerical simulations of the SST-1M performance based on such measurements. The telescope effective area, the expected trigger rates and the optical point spread function are calculated.

The prototype camera of the single-mirror Small Size Telescopes (SST-1M) proposed for the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) project has been designed to be very compact and to deliver high performance over thirty years of operation. The camera is composed of an hexagonal photo-detection plane made of custom designed large area hexagonal silicon photomultipliers and a high throughput, highly configurable, fully digital readout and trigger system (DigiCam). The camera will be installed on the telescope structure at the H. Niewodnicza{ń}ski institute of Nuclear Physics in Krakow in fall 2015. In this contribution, we review the steps that led to the development of the innovative photo-detection plane and readout electronics, and we describe the test and calibration strategy adopted.

The SST-1M telescope is one of the prototypes under construction proposed to be part of the future Cherenkov Telescope Array. It uses a standard Davis-Cotton design for the optics and telescope structure, with a dish diameter of 4 meters and a large field-of-view of 9 degrees.
The innovative camera design is composed of a photo-detection plane with 1296 pixels including entrance window, light concentrators, Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs), and pre-amplifier stages together with a fully digital readout and trigger electronics, DigiCam.
In this contribution we give a general description of the analysis chain designed for the SST-1M prototype. In particular we focus on the calibration strategy used to convert the SiPM signals registered by DigiCam to the quantities needed for Cherenkov image analysis. The calibration is based on an online feedback system to stabilize the gain of the SiPMs, as well as dedicated events (dark count, pedestal, and light flasher events) to be taken during the normal operation of the prototype.

The SST-1M is one of three prototype small-sized telescope designs proposed for the Cherenkov Telescope Array, and is built by a consortium of Polish and Swiss institutions. The SST-1M will operate with DigiCam - an innovative, compact camera with fully digital read-out and trigger electronics. A high level of integration will be achieved by massively deploying state-of-the-art multi-gigabit transmission channels, beginning from the ADC flash converters, through the internal data and trigger signals transmission over backplanes and cables, to the camera's server link. Such an approach makes it possible to design the camera to fit the size and weight requirements of the SST-1M exactly, and provide low power consumption, high reliability and long lifetime. The structure of the digital electronics will be presented, along with main physical building blocks and the internal architecture of FPGA functional subsystems.

Abstract:
The sudden lengthening of orbital period of VV Cep eclipsing binary by about 1% was observed in the last epoch. The mass transfer and/or mass loss are most possible explanations of this event. The photometric behaviour of AZ Cas, the cousin of VV Cep, suggests that the accretion can occur and could be important in this system, too.
