Eigenvalues of the magnetic Dirichlet Laplacian with constant magnetic field on discs in the strong field limit
Abstract: We consider the magnetic Dirichlet Laplacian with constant magnetic field on domains of finite measure. In the case of a disc, we prove that the eigenvalue branches with respect to the field strength behave asymptotically linear with an exponentially small remainder term as the field strength goes to infinity. We compute the asymptotic expression for this remainder term. Furthermore, we show that… ▽ More

An improved one-dimensional Hardy inequality
Abstract: We prove a one-dimensional Hardy inequality on the halfline with sharp constant, which improves the classical form of this inequality. As a consequence of this new inequality we can rederive known doubly weighted Hardy inequalities. Our motivation comes from the theory of Schrödinger operators and we explain the use of Hardy inequalities in that context.

Eigenvalue asymptotics for an elastic strip and an elastic plate with a crack
Abstract: We consider the elasticity operator with zero Poisson's ratio on an infinite strip and an infinite plate with a horizontal crack. We prove an asymptotic formula for the distance of the embedded eigenvalues to some spectral threshold of the operator as the crack becomes small.

Spectral asymptotics for the Dirichlet Laplacian with a Neumann window via a Birman-Schwinger analysis of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator
Abstract: In the present article we will give a new proof of the ground state asymptotics of the Dirichlet Laplacian with a Neumann window acting on functions which are defined on a two-dimensional infinite strip or a three-dimensional infinite layer. The proof is based on the analysis of the corresponding Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator as a first order classical pseudo-differential operator. Using the expli… ▽ More

Semiclassical bounds in magnetic bottles
Abstract: The aim of the paper is to derive spectral estimates into several classes of magnetic systems. They include three-dimensional regions with Dirichlet boundary as well as a particle in $\mathbb{R}^3$ confined by a local change of the magnetic field. We establish two-dimensional Berezin-Li-Yau and Lieb-Thirring-type bounds in the presence of magnetic fields and, using them, get three-dimensional esti… ▽ More

Sharp spectral estimates in domains of infinite volume
Abstract: We consider the Dirichlet Laplace operator on open, quasi-bounded domains of infinite volume. For such domains semiclassical spectral estimates based on the phase-space volume - and therefore on the volume of the domain - must fail. Here we present a method how one can nevertheless prove uniform bounds on eigenvalues and eigenvalue means which are sharp in the semiclassical limit. We give examples… ▽ More

Geometrical Versions of improved Berezin-Li-Yau Inequalities
Abstract: We study the eigenvalues of the Dirichlet Laplace operator on an arbitrary bounded, open set in $\R^d$, $d \geq 2$. In particular, we derive upper bounds on Riesz means of order $σ\geq 3/2$, that improve the sharp Berezin inequality by a negative second term. This remainder term depends on geometric properties of the boundary of the set and reflects the correct order of growth in the semi-classica… ▽ More

Universal Bounds for Traces of the Dirichlet Laplace Operator
Abstract: We derive upper bounds for the trace of the heat kernel $Z(t)$ of the Dirichlet Laplace operator in an open set $Ω\subset \R^d$, $d \geq 2$. In domains of finite volume the result improves an inequality of Kac. Using the same methods we give bounds on $Z(t)$ in domains of infinite volume. For domains of finite volume the bound on $Z(t)$ decays exponentially as $t$ tends to infinity and it co… ▽ More

Two dimensional Berezin-Li-Yau inequalities with a correction term

We prove the inequality \sum_i|E_i(H)|^γ\leq L_{γ,1}\int_{\Bbb R} V^{γ+1/2}(x)dx, (1) for the "limit" case $γ=1/2.$ This will imply improved estimates for the best constants $L_{γ,1}$ in (1), as $1/2<γ<3/2.
