Stories and emotions in movies emerge through the effect of well-thought-out directing decisions, in particular camera placement and movement over time. Crafting compelling camera trajectories remains a complex iterative process, even for skilful artists. To tackle this, in this paper, we propose a dataset called the Exceptional Trajectories (E.T.) with camera trajectories along with character information and textual captions encompassing descriptions of both camera and character. To our knowledge, this is the first dataset of its kind. To show the potential applications of the E.T. dataset, we propose a diffusion-based approach, named DIRECTOR, which generates complex camera trajectories from textual captions that describe the relation and synchronisation between the camera and characters. To ensure robust and accurate evaluations, we train on the E.T. dataset CLaTr, a Contrastive Language-Trajectory embedding for evaluation metrics. We posit that our proposed dataset and method significantly advance the democratization of cinematography, making it more accessible to common users.

Teleoperation serves as a powerful method for collecting on-robot data essential for robot learning from demonstrations. The intuitiveness and ease of use of the teleoperation system are crucial for ensuring high-quality, diverse, and scalable data. To achieve this, we propose an immersive teleoperation system Open-TeleVision that allows operators to actively perceive the robot's surroundings in a stereoscopic manner. Additionally, the system mirrors the operator's arm and hand movements on the robot, creating an immersive experience as if the operator's mind is transmitted to a robot embodiment. We validate the effectiveness of our system by collecting data and training imitation learning policies on four long-horizon, precise tasks (Can Sorting, Can Insertion, Folding, and Unloading) for 2 different humanoid robots and deploy them in the real world. The capacity of large language models (LLMs) to generate honest, harmless, and helpful responses heavily relies on the quality of user prompts. However, these prompts often tend to be brief and vague, thereby significantly limiting the full potential of LLMs. Moreover, harmful prompts can be meticulously crafted and manipulated by adversaries to jailbreak LLMs, inducing them to produce potentially toxic content. To enhance the capabilities of LLMs while maintaining strong robustness against harmful jailbreak inputs, this study proposes a transferable and pluggable framework that refines user prompts before they are input into LLMs. This strategy improves the quality of the queries, empowering LLMs to generate more truthful, benign and useful responses. Specifically, a lightweight query refinement model is introduced and trained using a specially designed reinforcement learning approach that incorporates multiple objectives to enhance particular capabilities of LLMs. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the refinement model not only improves the quality of responses but also strengthens their robustness against jailbreak attacks. This paper investigates the cross-lingual inconsistencies observed in Large Language Models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, Llama, and Baichuan, which have shown exceptional performance in various Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks. Despite their successes, these models often exhibit significant inconsistencies when processing the same concepts across different languages. This study focuses on three primary questions: the existence of cross-lingual inconsistencies in LLMs, the specific aspects in which these inconsistencies manifest, and the correlation between cross-lingual consistency and multilingual capabilities of LLMs.To address these questions, we propose an innovative evaluation method for Cross-lingual Semantic Consistency (xSC) using the LaBSE model. We further introduce metrics for Cross-lingual Accuracy Consistency (xAC) and Cross-lingual Timeliness Consistency (xTC) to comprehensively assess the models' performance regarding semantic, accuracy, and timeliness inconsistencies. By harmonizing these metrics, we provide a holistic measurement of LLMs' cross-lingual consistency. Our findings aim to enhance the understanding and improvement of multilingual capabilities and interpretability in LLMs, contributing to the development of more robust and reliable multilingual language models.

Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) techniques have proven to be effective in integrating up-to-date information, mitigating hallucinations, and enhancing response quality, particularly in specialized domains. While many RAG approaches have been proposed to enhance large language models through query-dependent retrievals, these approaches still suffer from their complex implementation and prolonged response times. Typically, a RAG workflow involves multiple processing steps, each of which can be executed in various ways. Here, we investigate existing RAG approaches and their potential combinations to identify optimal RAG practices. Through extensive experiments, we suggest several strategies for deploying RAG that balance both performance and efficiency. Moreover, we demonstrate that multimodal retrieval techniques can significantly enhance question-answering capabilities about visual inputs and accelerate the generation of multimodal content using a "retrieval as generation" strategy.

Efficient sterilization of pathogens with cleaner methods is a critical concern for environmental disinfection and clinical anti-infective treatment. Plasma-activated water (PAW) is a promising alternative to chemical disinfectants and antibiotics for its strong sterilization ability and not inducing any acute toxicity, and only water and air are consumed during production. For more efficient water activation, plasma sources are commonly placed near or fully in contact with water as possible, but the risks of electrode corrosion and metal contamination of water threaten the safety and stability of PAW production. Herein, plasma-activated gas rich in high-valence NOx is generated by a hybrid plasma configuration and introduced into water for off-site PAW production. Plasma-generated O3 is found to dominate the gas-phase reactions for the formation of high-valence NOx. With the time-evolution of O3 concentration, gaseous NO3 radicals are produced behind N2O5 formation, but will be decomposed before N2O5 quenching. By decoupling the roles of gaseous NO3, N2O5, and O3 in the water activation, results show that short-lived aqueous species induced by gaseous NO3 radicals play the most crucial role in PAW sterilization, and the acidic environment induced by N2O5 is also essential. Moreover, SEM photographs and biomacromolecule leakage assays demonstrate that PAW disrupts the cell membranes of bacteria to achieve inactivation. In real-life applications, an integrated device for off-site PAW production with a yield of 2 L/h and a bactericidal efficiency of >99.9% is developed. The PAW of 50mL produced in 3 minutes using this device is more effective in disinfection than 0.5% NaClO and 3% H2O2 with the same bacterial contact time. This work provides new avenues for efficient PAW production and deepens insights into the fundamental processes that govern the reactive chemistry in PAW sterilization.

In the digital era, data has become a pivotal asset, advancing technologies such as autonomous driving. Despite this, data trading faces challenges like the absence of robust pricing methods and the lack of trustworthy trading mechanisms. To address these challenges, we introduce a traffic-oriented data trading platform named Data on The Move (DTM), integrating traffic simulation, data trading, and Artificial Intelligent (AI) agents. The DTM platform supports evident-based data value evaluation and AI-based trading mechanisms. Leveraging the common sense capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) to assess traffic state and data value, DTM can determine reasonable traffic data pricing through multi-round interaction and simulations. Moreover, DTM provides a pricing method validation by simulating traffic systems, multi-agent interactions, and the heterogeneity and irrational behaviors of individuals in the trading market. Within the DTM platform, entities such as connected vehicles and traffic light controllers could engage in information collecting, data pricing, trading, and decision-making. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed AI agent-based pricing approach enhances data trading by offering rational prices, as evidenced by the observed improvement in traffic efficiency. This underscores the effectiveness and practical value of DTM, offering new perspectives for the evolution of data markets and smart cities. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study employing LLMs in data pricing and a pioneering data trading practice in the field of intelligent vehicles and smart cities.

To address this task, we propose ProductAgent, a conversational information seeking agent equipped with abilities of strategic clarification question generation and dynamic product retrieval. Specifically, we develop the agent with strategies for product feature summarization, query generation, and product retrieval. Furthermore, we propose the benchmark called PROCLARE to evaluate the agent's performance both automatically and qualitatively with the aid of a LLM-driven user simulator. Experiments show that ProductAgent interacts positively with the user and enhances retrieval performance with increasing dialogue turns, where user demands become gradually more explicit and detailed. The integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) with Knowledge Representation Learning (KRL) signifies a pivotal advancement in the field of artificial intelligence, enhancing the ability to capture and utilize complex knowledge structures. This synergy leverages the advanced linguistic and contextual understanding capabilities of LLMs to improve the accuracy, adaptability, and efficacy of KRL, thereby expanding its applications and potential. Despite the increasing volume of research focused on embedding LLMs within the domain of knowledge representation, a thorough review that examines the fundamental components and processes of these enhanced models is conspicuously absent. Our survey addresses this by categorizing these models based on three distinct Transformer architectures, and by analyzing experimental data from various KRL downstream tasks to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. Finally, we identify and explore potential future research directions in this emerging yet underexplored domain, proposing pathways for continued progress.

Emotion Recognition in Conversations (ERC) is a popular task in natural language processing, which aims to recognize the emotional state of the speaker in conversations. While current research primarily emphasizes contextual modeling, there exists a dearth of investigation into effective multimodal fusion methods. We propose a novel framework called AIMDiT to solve the problem of multimodal fusion of deep features. Specifically, we design a Modality Augmentation Network which performs rich representation learning through dimension transformation of different modalities and parameter-efficient inception block. On the other hand, the Modality Interaction Network performs interaction fusion of extracted inter-modal features and intra-modal features. Experiments conducted using our AIMDiT framework on the public benchmark dataset MELD reveal 2.34% and 2.87% improvements in terms of the Acc-7 and w-F1 metrics compared to the state-of-the-art (SOTA) models.

Cancer survival prediction is a challenging task that involves analyzing of the tumor microenvironment within Whole Slide Image (WSI). Previous methods cannot effectively capture the intricate interaction features among instances within the local area of WSI. Moreover, existing methods for cancer survival prediction based on WSI often fail to provide better clinically meaningful predictions. To overcome these challenges, we propose a Sparse Context-aware Multiple Instance Learning (SCMIL) framework for predicting cancer survival probability distributions. SCMIL innovatively segments patches into various clusters based on their morphological features and spatial location information, subsequently leveraging sparse self-attention to discern the relationships between these patches with a context-aware perspective. Considering many patches are irrelevant to the task, we introduce a learnable patch filtering module called SoftFilter, which ensures that only interactions between task-relevant patches are considered. To enhance the clinical relevance of our prediction, we propose a register-based mixture density network to forecast the survival probability distribution for individual patients. We evaluate SCMIL on two public WSI datasets from the The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) specifically focusing on lung adenocarcinom (LUAD) and kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC). Our experimental results indicate that SCMIL outperforms current state-of-the-art methods for survival prediction, offering more clinically meaningful and interpretable outcomes. Our code is accessible at https://github.com/yang-ze-kang/SCMIL.

Knowledge reasoning, a primary type of reasoning, aims at deriving new knowledge from existing one. While it has been widely studied in the context of knowledge graphs (KGs), knowledge reasoning in LLMs remains underexplored. In this paper, we introduce Chain-of-Knowledge, a comprehensive framework for knowledge reasoning, including methodologies for both dataset construction and model learning. For dataset construction, we create KnowReason via rule mining on KGs. For model learning, we observe rule overfitting induced by naive training. Hence, we enhance CoK with a trial-and-error mechanism that simulates the human process of internal knowledge exploration. We conduct extensive experiments with KnowReason. We present optical photometry for the afterglow of GRB 221009A, in some respects the most extraordinary gamma-ray burst (GRB) ever observed. Good quality in the R-band light curve is obtained, covering 0.32-19.57 days since the Fermi-GBM trigger. We find that a weak bump emerges fromthe declining afterglow at $t \approx 11$ days; a supernova (SN) may be responsible. We use a smooth broken power-law and $^{56}\mathrm{Ni}$ model to fit the light curve. The best-fitting results reveal that the SN ejected a total mass of $M_\mathrm{ej} = 3.70 M_\odot$, a $^{56}\mathrm{Ni}$ mass of $M_\mathrm{Ni} = 0.23 M_\odot$, and a kinetic energy of $E_\mathrm{SN,K} = 2.35 \times 10^{52} \mathrm{erg}$. We also compare GRB 221009A with other GRB-SN events based on a GRB-associated SN sample, and find that only SN 2003lw and SN 2011kl can be obviously revealed in the afterglow of GRB 221009A by setting these objects at its distance. This suggests that a supernova (SN 2022xiw) is possibly obscured by the brighter afterglow emission from GRB 221009A.

Exploring heavy vector mesons of the $ J / ψ$ and $ Υ( 1 S )$ is crucial for understanding the quark gluon plasma (QGP) formed in heavy ion collisions. The influences of rotational effect on the properties of the $ J / ψ$ and the $ Υ( 1 S )$ are investigated by incorporating rotation medium into the holographic QCD. It is found that temperature, chemical potential, and rotational radius effects enhance the dissociation process of the $ J / ψ$ and the $ Υ( 1 S )$ states within the medium. This rotation-induced effect is more significant for heavy vector mesons in the transverse direction than that of the longitudinal direction. The first holographic study on the influence of the radius of a homogeneous rotating system on the vector meson spectrum is proposed. It is found that increasing in rotation radius promotes the dissociation of vector mesons of the $ J / ψ$ and $ Υ( 1 S )$. We also find that the dissociation perpendicular to the direction of rotational angular velocity is more significant than that parallel to it at large rational radius.

Processing in-memory (PIM) is promising to accelerate neural networks (NNs) because it minimizes data movement and provides large computational parallelism. Similar to machine learning accelerators, application map**, which determines the operation scheduling and data layout, plays a critical role in the NN acceleration on PIM. The map** optimization of previous NN accelerators focused on optimizing the latency of sequential execution. However, PIM accelerators feature a distinct design space of application map** from conventional NN accelerators, due to the spatial execution of NN layers across different memory locations. This enables opportunities for overlap** execution of consecutive NN layers to improve the latency, where the succeeding layer can start execution before the preceding layer fully completes the computation. In this paper, we propose Fast-OverlaPIM framework that incorporates the computational overlap** optimization into the DNN map** exploration process on PIM architectures. Fast-OverlaPIM includes analytical algorithms for fast and accurate overlap analysis. Furthermore, it proposes a novel map** search strategy and a transformation mechanism to enable efficient design space exploration on the overlap-based map** for the whole network. Our framework demonstrates a significant improvement in runtime performance from 3.4x to 323.1x compared to the previous state-of-the-art overlap-based framework. Our experiments show that Fast-OverlaPIM can efficiently produce map**s that are 4.6x to 18.1x faster than the state-of-the-art map** optimization framework under the same architecture constraints.

The design and analysis of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) sketches play a crucial role in industrial product design, primarily involving CAD primitives and their inter-primitive constraints. To address challenges related to error accumulation in autoregressive models and the complexities associated with self-supervised model design for this task, we propose a two-stage network framework. This framework consists of a primitive network and a constraint network, transforming the sketch analysis task into a set prediction problem to enhance the effective handling of primitives and constraints. By decoupling target types from parameters, the model gains increased flexibility and optimization while reducing complexity. Additionally, the constraint network incorporates a pointer module to explicitly indicate the relationship between constraint parameters and primitive indices, enhancing interpretability and performance. Qualitative and quantitative analyses on two publicly available datasets demonstrate the superiority of this method.

As a two-sided marketplace, Airbnb brings together hosts who own listings for rent with prospective guests from around the globe. Results from a guest's search for listings are displayed primarily through two interfaces: (1) as a list of rectangular cards that contain on them the listing image, price, rating, and other details, referred to as list-results (2) as oval pins on a map showing the listing price, called map-results. Both these interfaces, since their inception, have used the same ranking algorithm that orders listings by their booking probabilities and selects the top listings for display. But some of the basic assumptions underlying ranking, built for a world where search results are presented as lists, simply break down for maps. This paper describes how we rebuilt ranking for maps by revising the mathematical foundations of how users interact with search results. Our iterative and experiment-driven approach led us through a path full of twists and turns, ending in a unified theory for the two interfaces. Our journey shows how assumptions taken for granted when designing machine learning algorithms may not apply equally across all user interfaces, and how they can be adapted. The net impact was one of the largest improvements in user experience for Airbnb which we discuss as a series of experimental validations.

These 1 billion personas (~13% of the world's total population), acting as distributed carriers of world knowledge, can tap into almost every perspective encapsulated within the LLM, thereby facilitating the creation of diverse synthetic data at scale for various scenarios. By showcasing Persona Hub's use cases in synthesizing high-quality mathematical and logical reasoning problems, instructions (i.e., user prompts), knowledge-rich texts, game NPCs and tools (functions) at scale, we demonstrate persona-driven data synthesis is versatile, scalable, flexible, and easy to use, potentially driving a paradigm shift in synthetic data creation and applications in practice, which may have a profound impact on LLM research and development.

The Segmentation Anything Model (SAM) requires labor-intensive data labeling. We present Unsupervised SAM (UnSAM) for promptable and automatic whole-image segmentation that does not require human annotations. UnSAM utilizes a divide-and-conquer strategy to "discover" the hierarchical structure of visual scenes. We first leverage top-down clustering methods to partition an unlabeled image into instance/semantic level segments. For all pixels within a segment, a bottom-up clustering method is employed to iteratively merge them into larger groups, thereby forming a hierarchical structure. These unsupervised multi-granular masks are then utilized to supervise model training. Evaluated across seven popular datasets, UnSAM achieves competitive results with the supervised counterpart SAM, and surpasses the previous state-of-the-art in unsupervised segmentation by 11% in terms of AR. Moreover, we show that supervised SAM can also benefit from our self-supervised labels. By integrating our unsupervised pseudo masks into SA-1B's ground-truth masks and training UnSAM with only 1% of SA-1B, a lightly semi-supervised UnSAM can often segment entities overlooked by supervised SAM, exceeding SAM's AR by over 6.7% and AP by 3.9% on SA-1B.

Segment Anything Model (SAM) has attracted widespread attention for its superior interactive segmentation capabilities with visual prompts while lacking further exploration of text prompts. In this paper, we empirically investigate what text prompt encoders (e.g., CLIP or LLM) are good for adapting SAM for referring expression segmentation and introduce the Early Vision-language Fusion-based SAM (EVF-SAM). EVF-SAM is a simple yet effective referring segmentation method which exploits multimodal prompts (i.e., image and text) and comprises a pre-trained vision-language model to generate referring prompts and a SAM model for segmentation. Surprisingly, we observe that: (1) multimodal prompts and (2) vision-language models with early fusion (e.g., BEIT-3) are beneficial for prompting SAM for accurate referring segmentation. Our experiments show that the proposed EVF-SAM based on BEIT-3 can obtain state-of-the-art performance on RefCOCO/+/g for referring expression segmentation and demonstrate the superiority of prompting SAM with early vision-language fusion. In addition, the proposed EVF-SAM with 1.32B parameters achieves remarkably higher performance while reducing nearly 82% of parameters compared to previous SAM methods based on large multimodal models.

Bilevel optimization has shown its utility across various machine learning settings, yet most algorithms in practice require second-order information, making it challenging to scale them up. Only recently, a paradigm of first-order algorithms emerged, capable of effectively addressing bilevel optimization problems. Nevertheless, the practical efficiency of this paradigm remains unverified, particularly in the context of large language models (LLMs). This paper introduces the first scalable instantiation of this paradigm called ScaleBiO, focusing on bilevel optimization for large-scale LLM data reweighting. By combining with a recently proposed memory-efficient training technique called LISA, our novel algorithm allows the paradigm to scale to 34-billion-parameter LLMs on eight A40 GPUs, marking the first successful application of bilevel optimization under practical scenarios for large-sized LLMs. Empirically, extensive experiments on data reweighting verify the effectiveness of ScaleBiO for different-scaled models, including GPT-2, LLaMA-3-8B, GPT-NeoX-20B, and Yi-34B, where bilevel optimization succeeds in filtering irrelevant data samples and selecting informative samples. Theoretically, ScaleBiO ensures the optimality of the learned data weights, along with a convergence guarantee matching the conventional first-order bilevel optimization paradigm on smooth and strongly convex objectives.

Large language models (LLMs) have become the foundation of many applications, leveraging their extensive capabilities in processing and understanding natural language. While many open-source LLMs have been released with technical reports, the lack of training details hinders further research and development. This paper presents the development of YuLan, a series of open-source LLMs with $12$ billion parameters. The base model of YuLan is pre-trained on approximately $1.7$T tokens derived from a diverse corpus, including massive English, Chinese, and multilingual texts. We design a three-stage pre-training method to enhance YuLan's overall capabilities. Subsequent phases of training incorporate instruction-tuning and human alignment, employing a substantial volume of high-quality synthesized data. To facilitate the learning of complex and long-tail knowledge, we devise a curriculum-learning framework throughout across these stages, which helps LLMs learn knowledge in an easy-to-hard manner. YuLan's training is finished on Jan, 2024 and has achieved performance on par with state-of-the-art LLMs across various English and Chinese benchmarks. This paper outlines a comprehensive technical roadmap for develo** LLMs from scratch. Our model and codes are available at https://github.com/RUC-GSAI/YuLan-Chat.

3D multi-object tracking and trajectory prediction are two crucial modules in autonomous driving systems. Generally, the two tasks are handled separately in traditional paradigms and a few methods have started to explore modeling these two tasks in a joint manner recently. However, these approaches suffer from the limitations of single-frame training and inconsistent coordinate representations between tracking and prediction tasks. In this paper, we propose a streaming and unified framework for joint 3D Multi-Object Tracking and trajectory Prediction (StreamMOTP) to address the above challenges. Firstly, we construct the model in a streaming manner and exploit a memory bank to preserve and leverage the long-term latent features for tracked objects more effectively. Secondly, a relative spatio-temporal positional encoding strategy is introduced to bridge the gap of coordinate representations between the two tasks and maintain the pose-invariance for trajectory prediction. Thirdly, we further improve the quality and consistency of predicted trajectories with a dual-stream predictor. We conduct extensive experiments on popular nuSences dataset and the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of StreamMOTP, which outperforms previous methods significantly on both tasks. Furthermore, we also prove that the proposed framework has great potential and advantages in actual applications of autonomous driving.

Human activities are inherently complex, and even simple household tasks involve numerous object interactions. To better understand these activities and behaviors, it is crucial to model their dynamic interactions with the environment. The recent availability of affordable head-mounted cameras and egocentric data offers a more accessible and efficient means to understand dynamic human-object interactions in 3D environments. However, most existing methods for human activity modeling either focus on reconstructing 3D models of hand-object or human-scene interactions or on map** 3D scenes, neglecting dynamic interactions with objects. The few existing solutions often require inputs from multiple sources, including multi-camera setups, depth-sensing cameras, or kinesthetic sensors. To this end, we introduce EgoGaussian, the first method capable of simultaneously reconstructing 3D scenes and dynamically tracking 3D object motion from RGB egocentric input alone. We leverage the uniquely discrete nature of Gaussian Splatting and segment dynamic interactions from the background. Our approach employs a clip-level online learning pipeline that leverages the dynamic nature of human activities, allowing us to reconstruct the temporal evolution of the scene in chronological order and track rigid object motion. Additionally, our method automatically segments object and background Gaussians, providing 3D representations for both static scenes and dynamic objects. EgoGaussian outperforms previous NeRF and Dynamic Gaussian methods in challenging in-the-wild videos and we also qualitatively demonstrate the high quality of the reconstructed models.

The PM-VIS algorithm is adapted to handle both bounding box and instance-level pixel annotations dynamically. We introduce ImageNet-bbox to supplement missing categories in video datasets and propose the PM-VIS+ algorithm to adjust supervision based on annotation types. Search components in e-commerce apps, often complex AI-based systems, are prone to bugs that can lead to missed recalls - situations where items that should be listed in search results aren't. This can frustrate shop owners and harm the app's profitability. However, testing for missed recalls is challenging due to difficulties in generating user-aligned test cases and the absence of oracles. In this paper, we introduce mrDetector, the first automatic testing approach specifically for missed recalls. To tackle the test case generation challenge, we use findings from how users construct queries during searching to create a CoT prompt to generate user-aligned queries by LLM. In addition, we learn from users who create multiple queries for one shop and compare search results, and provide a test oracle through a metamorphic relation. Extensive experiments using open access data demonstrate that mrDetector outperforms all baselines with the lowest false positive ratio. Experiments with real industrial data show that mrDetector discovers over one hundred missed recalls with only 17 false positives.

We consider \emph{weighted group search on a disk}, which is a search-type problem involving 2 mobile agents with unit-speed. The two agents start collocated and their goal is to reach a (hidden) target at an unknown location and a known distance of exactly 1 (i.e., the search domain is the unit disk). The agents operate in the so-called \emph{wireless} model that allows them instantaneous knowledge of each others findings. The termination cost of agents' trajectories is the worst-case \emph{arithmetic weighted average}, which we quantify by parameter $w$, of the times it takes each agent to reach the target, hence the name of the problem. Our work follows a long line of research in search and evacuation, but quite importantly it is a variation and extension of two well-studied problems, respectively. The known variant is the one in which the search domain is the line, and for which an optimal solution is known. Our problem is also the extension of the so-called \emph{priority evacuation}, which we obtain by setting the weight parameter $w$ to $0$. For the latter problem the best upper/lower bound gap known is significant. Our contributions for weighted group search on a disk are threefold. \textit{First}, we derive upper bounds for the entire spectrum of weighted averages $w$. Our algorithms are obtained as a adaptations of known techniques, however the analysis is much more technical. \textit{Second}, our main contribution is the derivation of lower bounds for all weighted averages. This follows from a \emph{novel framework} for proving lower bounds for combinatorial search problems based on linear programming and inspired by metric embedding relaxations. \textit{Third}, we apply our framework to the priority evacuation problem, improving the previously best lower bound known from $4.38962$ to $4.56798$, thus reducing the upper/lower bound gap from $0.42892$ to $0.25056$.

The rapid development of multimodal large language models (MLLMs), such as GPT-4V, has led to significant advancements. However, these models still face challenges in medical multimodal capabilities due to limitations in the quantity and quality of medical vision-text data, stemming from data privacy concerns and high annotation costs. While pioneering approaches utilize PubMed's large-scale, de-identified medical image-text pairs to address these limitations, they still fall short due to inherent data noise. To tackle this, we refined medical image-text pairs from PubMed and employed MLLMs (GPT-4V) in an 'unblinded' capacity to denoise and reformat the data, resulting in the creation of the PubMedVision dataset with 1.3 million medical VQA samples. Our validation demonstrates that: (1) PubMedVision can significantly enhance the medical multimodal capabilities of current MLLMs, showing significant improvement in benchmarks including the MMMU Health & Medicine track; (2) manual checks by medical experts and empirical results validate the superior data quality of our dataset compared to other data construction methods. Using PubMedVision, we train a 34B medical MLLM HuatuoGPT-Vision, which shows superior performance in medical multimodal scenarios among open-source MLLMs.

Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) are central to our interaction with digital devices. Recently, growing efforts have been made to build models for various GUI understanding tasks. However, these efforts largely overlook an important GUI-referring task: screen reading based on user-indicated points, which we name the Screen Point-and-Read (SPR) task. This task is predominantly handled by rigid accessible screen reading tools, in great need of new models driven by advancements in Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs). In this paper, we propose a Tree-of-Lens (ToL) agent, utilizing a novel ToL grounding mechanism, to address the SPR task. Based on the input point coordinate and the corresponding GUI screenshot, our ToL agent constructs a Hierarchical Layout Tree. Based on the tree, our ToL agent not only comprehends the content of the indicated area but also articulates the layout and spatial relationships between elements. Such layout information is crucial for accurately interpreting information on the screen, distinguishing our ToL agent from other screen reading tools. We also thoroughly evaluate the ToL agent against other baselines on a newly proposed SPR benchmark, which includes GUIs from mobile, web, and operating systems. Last but not least, we test the ToL agent on mobile GUI navigation tasks, demonstrating its utility in identifying incorrect actions along the path of agent execution trajectories. Integrating visible and infrared images into one high-quality image, also known as visible and infrared image fusion, is a challenging yet critical task for many downstream vision tasks. Most existing works utilize pretrained deep neural networks or design sophisticated frameworks with strong priors for this task, which may be unsuitable or lack flexibility. This paper presents SimpleFusion, a simple yet effective framework for visible and infrared image fusion. Our framework follows the decompose-and-fusion paradigm, where the visible and the infrared images are decomposed into reflectance and illumination components via Retinex theory and followed by the fusion of these corresponding elements. The whole framework is designed with two plain convolutional neural networks without downsampling, which can perform image decomposition and fusion efficiently. Moreover, we introduce decomposition loss and a detail-to-semantic loss to preserve the complementary information between the two modalities for fusion. In wireless communication-based formation control systems, the control performance is significantly impacted by the channel capacity of each communication link between agents. This relationship, however, remains under-investigated in the existing studies. To address this gap, the formation control problem of classical second-order multi-agent systems with bounded process noises was considered taking into account the channel capacity. More specifically, the model of communication links between agents is first established, based on a new concept -- guaranteed communication region, which characterizes all possible locations for successful message decoding in the present of control-system uncertainty. Furthermore, we rigorously prove that, the guaranteed communication region does not unboundedly increase with the transmission time, which indicates an important trade-off between the guaranteed communication region and the data rate. The fundamental limits of data rate for any desired accuracy are also obtained. Finally, the integrated design to achieve the desired formation accuracy is proposed, where an estimation-based controller and transmit power control strategy are developed.

Existing event stream-based pattern recognition models usually represent the event stream as the point cloud, voxel, image, etc., and design various deep neural networks to learn their features. Although considerable results can be achieved in simple cases, however, the model performance may be limited by monotonous modality expressions, sub-optimal fusion, and readout mechanisms. In this paper, we propose a novel dual-stream framework for event stream-based pattern recognition via differentiated fusion, termed EFV++. It models two common event representations simultaneously, i.e., event images and event voxels. The spatial and three-dimensional stereo information can be learned separately by utilizing Transformer and Graph Neural Network (GNN). We believe the features of each representation still contain both efficient and redundant features and a sub-optimal solution may be obtained if we directly fuse them without differentiation. Thus, we divide each feature into three levels and retain high-quality features, blend medium-quality features, and exchange low-quality features. The enhanced dual features will be fed into the fusion Transformer together with bottleneck features. In addition, we introduce a novel hybrid interaction readout mechanism to enhance the diversity of features as final representations. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed framework achieves state-of-the-art performance on multiple widely used event stream-based classification datasets. Specifically, we achieve new state-of-the-art performance on the Bullying10k dataset, i.e., $90.51\%$, which exceeds the second place by $+2.21\%$. The source code of this paper has been released on \url{https://github.com/Event-AHU/EFV_event_classification/tree/EFVpp}.

Predicting the minimum operating voltage ($V_{min}$) of chips is one of the important techniques for improving the manufacturing testing flow, as well as ensuring the long-term reliability and safety of in-field systems. Current $V_{min}$ prediction methods often provide only point estimates, necessitating additional techniques for constructing prediction confidence intervals to cover uncertainties caused by different sources of variations. While some existing techniques offer region predictions, but they rely on certain distributional assumptions and/or provide no coverage guarantees. In response to these limitations, we propose a novel distribution-free $V_{min}$ interval estimation methodology possessing a theoretical guarantee of coverage. Our approach leverages conformalized quantile regression and on-chip monitors to generate reliable prediction intervals. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method on an industrial 5nm automotive chip dataset. Moreover, we show that the use of on-chip monitors can reduce the interval length significantly for $V_{min}$ prediction.

Recently, 3D Gaussian splatting (3D-GS) has achieved great success in reconstructing and rendering real-world scenes. To transfer the high rendering quality to generation tasks, a series of research works attempt to generate 3D-Gaussian assets from text. However, the generated assets have not achieved the same quality as those in reconstruction tasks. We observe that Gaussians tend to grow without control as the generation process may cause indeterminacy. Aiming at highly enhancing the generation quality, we propose a novel framework named GaussianDreamerPro. The main idea is to bind Gaussians to reasonable geometry, which evolves over the whole generation process. Along different stages of our framework, both the geometry and appearance can be enriched progressively. The final output asset is constructed with 3D Gaussians bound to mesh, which shows significantly enhanced details and quality compared with previous methods. Notably, the generated asset can also be seamlessly integrated into downstream manipulation pipelines, e.g. animation, composition, and simulation etc., greatly promoting its potential in wide applications. We investigate the stability of two families of three-level two-step schemes that extend the classical second order BDF (BDF2) and second order Adams-Moulton (AM2) schemes. For a free parameter restricted to an appropriate range that covers the classical case, we show that both the generalized BDF2 and the generalized AM2 schemes are A-stable. We also introduce the concept of uniform-in-time stability which characterizes a scheme's ability to inherit the uniform boundedness over all time of the solution of damped and forced equation with the force uniformly bounded in time. We then demonstrate that A-stability and uniform-in-time stability are equivalent for three-level two-step schemes. Next, these two families of schemes are utilized to construct efficient and unconditionally stable IMEX schemes for systems that involve a dam** term, a skew symmetric term, and a forcing term. These novel IMEX schemes are shown to be uniform-in-time energy stable in the sense that the norm of any numerical solution is bounded uniformly over all time, provided that the forcing term is uniformly bounded time, the skew symmetric term is dominated by the dissipative term, together with a mild time-step restriction. Numerical experiments verify our theoretical results. They also indicate that the generalized schemes could be more accurate and/or more stable than the classical ones for suitable choice of the parameter.

We mainly investigate the continuous dependence on parameters of nontrivial solutions for a generalized poly-Laplacian system on the weighted finite graph $G=(V, E)$. We firstly present an existence result of mountain pass type nontrivial solutions when the nonlinear term $F$ satisfies the super-$(p, q)$ linear growth condition which is a simple generalization of those results in [28]. Then we mainly show that the mountain pass type nontrivial solutions of the poly-Laplacian system are uniformly bounded for parameters and the concrete upper and lower bounds are given, and are continuously dependent on parameters. Similarly, we also present the existence result, the concrete upper and lower bounds, uniqueness, and dependence on parameters for the locally minimum type nontrivial solutions. Subsequently, we present an example on optimal control as an application of our results. Finally, we give a nonexistence result and some results for the corresponding scalar equation.

Direct current (DC) gas insulated transmission lines (GILs) have been widely used in power transmission, but might be threatened by partial discharge due to the presence of floating impurities (e.g., dust and metal particles) inside the sealed chamber. In this letter, by using a 2D fluid model we characterize the microscopic properties of the partial discharge induced by a floating linear metal particle in SF6 (both the discharge propagation and interaction between space charge and metal particle) under negative high voltage direct current (HVDC) conditions. Due to the strong electronegativity of SF6, the spatiotemporal distributions of the charged species (electrons, positive and negative ions), space charge, and reduced electric field are rather different from those in air. Notably, a negative ion region is observed around the top tip of the metal particle, and it plays an important role in the generation and propagation of primary and secondary streamers in SF6, which may lead to severe motion characteristics of the particle and aliasing of partial discharge signals. Additionally, we analyze the charging process and electric force reversal phenomenon, which may provide a more precise understanding of the underlying mechanisms of the firefly motion previously reported for DC GILs.

Recently, multilingual artificial intelligence assistants, exemplified by ChatGPT, have gained immense popularity. As a crucial gateway to human-computer interaction, multilingual automatic speech recognition (ASR) has also garnered significant attention, as evidenced by systems like Whisper. However, the proprietary nature of the training data has impeded researchers' efforts to study multilingual ASR. This paper introduces MSR-86K, an evolving, large-scale multilingual corpus for speech recognition research. The corpus is derived from publicly accessible videos on YouTube, comprising 15 languages and a total of 86,300 hours of transcribed ASR data. We also introduce how to use the MSR-86K corpus and other open-source corpora to train a robust multilingual ASR model that is competitive with Whisper. MSR-86K will be publicly released on HuggingFace, and we believe that such a large corpus will pave new avenues for research in multilingual ASR.

Solid electrolytes with fast ion transport are one of the key challenges for solid state lithium metal batteries. To improve ion conductivity, chemical do** has been the most effective strategy, and atomistic simulation with machine-learning potential helps find optimized do** by predicting ion conductivity for arbitrary composition. Yet most existing machine-learning models are trained on narrow chemistry, and new model has to be trained for each system, wasting transferable knowledge and incurring significant cost. Here, we propose a pre-trained deep potential model purpose-built for sulfide electrolytes with attention mechanism, known as DPA-SSE. The training set encompasses 15 elements and consists of both equilibrium and extensive out-of-equilibrium configurations. DPA-SSE achieves a high energy resolution of less than 2 meV/atom for dynamical trajectories up to 1150 K, and reproduces experimental ion conductivity of sulfide electrolytes with remarkable accuracy. DPA-SSE exhibits good transferability, covering a range of complex electrolytes with mixes of cation and anion atoms. Highly efficient dynamical simulation with DPA-SSE can be realized by model distillation which generates a faster model for given systems. DPA-SSE also serves as a platform for continuous learning, and the model fine-tune requires only a portion of downstream data. These results demonstrate the possibility of a new pathway for AI-driven development of solid electrolytes with exceptional performance.

As the development of large language models (LLMs) rapidly advances, securing these models effectively without compromising their utility has become a pivotal area of research. However, current defense strategies against jailbreak attacks (i.e., efforts to bypass security protocols) often suffer from limited adaptability, restricted general capability, and high cost. To address these challenges, we introduce SafeAligner, a methodology implemented at the decoding stage to fortify defenses against jailbreak attacks. We begin by develo** two specialized models: the Sentinel Model, which is trained to foster safety, and the Intruder Model, designed to generate riskier responses. SafeAligner leverages the disparity in security levels between the responses from these models to differentiate between harmful and beneficial tokens, effectively guiding the safety alignment by altering the output token distribution of the target model. Extensive experiments show that SafeAligner can increase the likelihood of beneficial tokens, while reducing the occurrence of harmful ones, thereby ensuring secure alignment with minimal loss to generality.

Liver cancer has a high incidence rate, but primary healthcare settings often lack experienced doctors. Advances in large models and AI technologies offer potential assistance. This work aims to address limitations in liver cancer diagnosis models, such as poor understanding of medical images, insufficient consideration of liver blood vessels, and ensuring accurate medical information. We propose a specialized diagnostic assistant to improve the diagnostic capabilities of less experienced doctors. Our framework combines large and small models, using optimized small models for precise patient image perception. Specifically, a segmentation network iteratively removes ambiguous pixels for liver tumor segmentation, and a multi-scale, multi-level differential network segments liver vessels. Features from these segmentations and medical records form a patient's personalized knowledge base. For diagnosis, Chain of Thought (COT) technology designs prompts mimicking experienced doctors' thought patterns, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology provides answers based on reliable domain knowledge and trusted cases. Our small model methods improve liver tumor and vessel segmentation performance, resulting in more accurate information extraction. The large model component scores over 1 point higher on a 10-point scale in evaluations by doctors compared to control methods. Our method enhances semantic perception of medical images, improves classification of ambiguous pixels, and optimizes small object perception. It considers blood vessel positions for specific treatments and improves response credibility and interpretability by mimicking experienced doctors' thought processes using reliable resources. This approach has been recognized by doctors and benefits liver cancer auxiliary diagnosis.

The ability to learn sequentially from different data sites is crucial for a deep network in solving practical medical image diagnosis problems due to privacy restrictions and storage limitations. However, adapting on incoming site leads to catastrophic forgetting on past sites and decreases generalizablity on unseen sites. Existing Continual Learning (CL) and Domain Generalization (DG) methods have been proposed to solve these two challenges respectively, but none of them can address both simultaneously. Recognizing this limitation, this paper proposes a novel training paradigm, learning towards Synchronous Memorizability and Generalizability (SMG-Learning). To achieve this, we create the orientational gradient alignment to ensure memorizability on previous sites, and arbitrary gradient alignment to enhance generalizability on unseen sites. This approach is named as Parallel Gradient Alignment (PGA). Furthermore, we approximate the PGA as dual meta-objectives using the first-order Taylor expansion to reduce computational cost of aligning gradients. Considering that performing gradient alignments, especially for previous sites, is not feasible due to the privacy constraints, we design a Site-Modulated Diffusion (SMD) model to generate images with site-specific learnable prompts, replaying images have similar data distributions as previous sites. We evaluate our method on two medical image segmentation tasks, where data from different sites arrive sequentially. Experimental results show that our method efficiently enhances both memorizability and generalizablity better than other state-of-the-art methods, delivering satisfactory performance across all sites. Our code will be available at: https://github.com/dyxu-cuhkcse/SMG-Learning.
