Abstract:
We study the $e^+e^-\toγωJ/ψ$ process using $11.6 ~\rm fb^{-1}$ $e^+ e^-$ annihilation data taken at center-of-mass energies from $\sqrt{s}=4.008~\rm GeV$ to $4.600~\rm GeV$ with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. We study the $e^+e^-\toγωJ/ψ$ process using $11.6 ~\rm fb^{-1}$ $e^+ e^-$ annihilation data taken at center-of-mass energies from $\sqrt{s}=4.008~\rm GeV$ to $4.600~\rm GeV$ with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The $X(3872)$ resonance is observed for the first time in the $ωJ/ψ$ system with a significance of more than $5σ$. The relative decay ratio of $X(3872)\toωJ/ψ$ and $π^+π^- J/ψ$ is measured to be $\mathcal{R}=1.6^{+0.4}_{-0.3}\pm0.2$, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic (the same hereafter). The $\sqrt{s}$-dependent cross section of $e^+e^-\toγX(3872)$ is also measured and investigated, and it can be described by a single Breit-Wigner resonance, referred to as the $Y(4200)$, with a mass of $4200.6^{+7.9}_{-13.3}\pm3.0~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ and a width of $115^{+38}_{-26}\pm12~{\rm MeV}$. In addition, to describe the $ωJ/ψ$ mass distribution above $3.9~\rm GeV/c^2$, we need at least one additional Breit-Wigner resonance, labeled as $X(3915)$, in the fit. The mass and width of the $X(3915)$ are measured to be $3926.4\pm2.2\pm1.2~\rm MeV/c^2$ and $3.8\pm7.5\pm2.6~\rm MeV$, or $3932.6\pm8.7\pm4.7~\rm MeV/c^2$ and $59.7\pm15.5\pm3.7~\rm MeV$, respectively, depending on the fit models. The resonant parameters of the $X(3915)$ agree with those of the $Y(3940)$ in $B\to KωJ/ψ$ and of the $X(3915)$ in $γγ\toωJ/ψ$ by the Belle and BABAR experiments within errors.

Using an $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3.19~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ and collected at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} = 4.178~\mathrm{GeV}$ with the BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0}K^{+}) = (1.425\pm0.038_{\rm stat.}\pm0.031_{\rm syst.})\%$ and $\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow K_{L}^{0}K^{+}) =(1.485\pm0.039_{\rm stat.}\pm0.046_{\rm syst.})\%$. The branching fraction of $D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0}K^{+}$ is compatible with the world average and that of $D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow K_{L}^{0}K^{+}$ is measured for the first time. We present the first measurement of the $K_{S}^{0}$-$K_{L}^{0}$ asymmetry in the decays $D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow K_{S,L}^{0}K^{+}$, and $R(D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow K_{S,L}^{0}K^{+})=\frac{\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0}K^{+}) -\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow K_{L}^{0}K^{+})}{\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0}K^{+}) +\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow K_{L}^{0}K^{+})}= (-2.1\pm1.9_{\rm stat.}\pm1.6_{\rm syst.})\%$. In addition, we measure the direct $CP$ asymmetries $A_{\rm CP}(D_{s}^{\pm} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0}K^{\pm}) = (0.6\pm2.8_{\rm stat.}\pm0.6_{\rm syst.})\%$ and $A_{\rm CP}(D_{s}^{\pm} \rightarrow K_{L}^{0}K^{\pm}) = (-1.1\pm2.6_{\rm stat.}\pm0.6_{\rm syst.})\%$.

We present the first amplitude analysis of the decay $D^{+}_{s} \rightarrow π^{+}π^{0}η$. We use an $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.19~${\mbox{\,fb}^{-1}}$ collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of $4.178$ GeV. We observe for the first time the pure $W$-annihilation decays $D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{+}π^{0}$ and $D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{0}π^{+}$. We measure the absolute branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{+(0)}π^{0^(+)}, a_{0}(980)^{+(0)} \to π^{+(0)}η) = (1.46\pm0.15_{\rm stat.}\pm0.23_{\rm sys.})$\%, which is larger than the branching fractions of other measured pure $W$-annihilation decays by at least one order of magnitude. In addition, we measure the branching fraction of $D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow π^{+}π^{0}η$ with significantly improved precision.

The cross section of the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow ωχ_{c0}$ is measured at center-of-mass energies from $\sqrt{s} =$ 4.178 to 4.278 GeV using a data sample of 7 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. The dependence of the cross section on $\sqrt{s}$ shows a resonant structure with mass of $(4218.5\pm1.6(\text{stat.})\pm4.0(\text{syst.}))$ MeV/$c^2$ and width of $(28.2\pm3.9(\text{stat.})\pm1.6(\text{syst.}))$ MeV, respectively. This observation confirms and improves upon the result of a previous study. The angular distribution of the $e^+e^- \rightarrow ωχ_{c0}$ process is extracted for the first time.

Using a data sample of $4.48\times10^{8}$ $\psip$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we present a first observation of $ψ(3686)\to p\bar{p}φ$, and we measure its branching fraction to be $[6.06\pm0.38 ($stat.$) \pm 0.48 ($syst.$)]\times10^{-6}$. In contrast to the earlier discovery of a threshold enhancement in the $p\bar{p}$-mass spectrum of the channel $J/ψ\toγp\bar p$, denoted as $X(p\bar{p})$, we do not find a similar enhancement in $ψ(3686)\to p\bar{p}φ$. An upper limit of $1.82\times10^{-7}$ at the $90\%$ confidence level on the branching fraction of $ψ(3686)\to X(p\bar{p})φ\to p\bar{p}φ$ is obtained.

The Born cross section for the process $e^+ e^- \to p \bar p $ is measured using the initial state radiation technique with an undetected photon. This analysis is based on datasets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.5 fb$^{-1}$, collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center of mass energies between 3.773 and 4.600 GeV. The Born cross section for the process $e^+ e^- \to p \bar p $ and the proton effective form factor are determined in the $p\bar p$ invariant mass range between 2.0 and 3.8 GeV/$c^2$ divided into 30 intervals. The proton form factor ratio ($|G_E|/|G_M|$) is measured in 3 intervals of the $p\bar p$ invariant mass between 2.0 and 3.0 GeV/$c^2$.

Using $4.48 \times 10^{8}$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we search for the decays $χ_{cJ} \rightarrow μ^{+}μ^{-}J/ψ$ through the radiative decays $ψ(3686) \rightarrow γχ_{cJ}$, where $J=0,1,2$. The decays $χ_{c1,2} \rightarrow μ^{+}μ^{-}J/ψ$ are observed, and the corresponding branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(χ_{c1} \rightarrow μ^{+}μ^{-}J/ψ) = (2.51 \pm 0.18 \pm 0.20)\times10^{-4}$ and $\mathcal{B}(χ_{c2} \rightarrow μ^{+}μ^{-}J/ψ) = (2.33 \pm 0.18 \pm 0.29)\times10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second one systematic. No significant $χ_{c0} \rightarrow μ^{+}μ^{-}J/ψ$ decay is observed, and the upper limit on the branching fraction is determined to be $2.0\times10^{-5}$ at 90% confidence level. Also, we present a study of di-muon invariant mass dependent transition form factor for the decays $χ_{c1,2} \rightarrow μ^{+}μ^{-}J/ψ$.

We report the first observation of $X(3872)\toπ^{0}χ_{c1}$, a new decay mode of the $X(3872)$, with a statistical significance of more than 5$σ$. Normalizing to the previously established process $e^+e^-\to γX(3872)$ with $X(3872)\toπ^+π^-J/ψ$, we find ${\cal B}(X(3872) \to π^0 χ_{c1})/{\cal B}(X(3872) \to π^+π^- J/ψ) = 0.88^{+0.33}_{-0.27}\pm0.10$, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. We set 90% confidence level upper limits on the corresponding ratios for the decays to $π^0χ_{c0}$ and $π^0χ_{c2}$ of 19 and 1.1, respectively.

We report corrected results on a study of the electromagnetic Dalitz decay $J/ψ\to e^+e^- η$ and search for di-electron decays of a light dark gauge boson ($γ'$) in $J/ψ\to γ' η$ with the two $η$ decay modes $η\rightarrow γγ$ and $η\rightarrow π^+π^-π^0$, using $(1310.6\pm 7.0)\times10^6$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector. In particular we update the measurement of the pole mass of the transition form factor (TFF) of $J/ψ\to e^+e^- η$ to be $Λ= 2.56 \pm 0.04({\rm stat}) \pm 0.03({\rm syst})$ GeV/$c^2$. The branching fraction of $J/ψ\to e^+e^-η$ and the kinetic-mixing strength between the Standard Model photon and $γ'$ are also updated after taking the corrected $Λ$ value into account. The measured branching fraction of $J/ψ\to e^+e^- η$ is updated to be $(1.42 \pm 0.04({\rm stat}) \pm 0.07 ({\rm syst}))\times 10^{-5}$, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Abstract:
Using a data sample of $(1310.6\pm7.0)\times10^{6}$ $J/ψ$ decay events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, we study the electromagnetic Dalitz decay $J/ψ\to η' e^+e^-$ with two dominant $η'$ decay modes, $η' \to γπ^+ π^-$ and $η' \to π^+π^-η$. Using a data sample of $(1310.6\pm7.0)\times10^{6}$ $J/ψ$ decay events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, we study the electromagnetic Dalitz decay $J/ψ\to η' e^+e^-$ with two dominant $η'$ decay modes, $η' \to γπ^+ π^-$ and $η' \to π^+π^-η$. The branching fraction is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to η' e^+e^-) = (6.59\pm0.07\pm0.17) \times 10^{-5}$, which improves in precision by a factor of 2 over the previous BESIII measurement. A search for the dark photon ($γ'$) is performed via $J/ψ\toη' γ', γ' \to e^{+}e^{-}$. Excluding the $ω$ and $φ$ mass regions, no significant signal is observed in the mass range from 0.1 to 2.1 GeV/$c^{2}$. We set upper limits at the 90\% confidence level on $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to η' γ')\times\mathcal{B}(γ' \to e^+e^-)$, $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\toη' γ'$) and the mixing strength as a function of dark photon mass. This is among the first searches for dark photons in charmonium decays.

The high design luminosity of the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider is expected to result in challenging levels of beam-induced backgrounds in the interaction region. Properly simulating and mitigating these backgrounds is critical to the success of the Belle~II experiment. We report on measurements performed with a suite of dedicated beam background detectors, collectively known as BEAST II, during the so-called Phase 1 commissioning run of SuperKEKB in 2016, which involved operation of both the high energy ring (HER) of 7 GeV electrons as well as the low energy ring (LER) of 4 GeV positrons. We describe the BEAST II detector systems, the simulation of beam backgrounds, and the measurements performed. The measurements include standard ones of dose rates versus accelerator conditions, and more novel investigations, such as bunch-by-bunch measurements of injection backgrounds and measurements sensitive to the energy spectrum and angular distribution of fast neutrons. We observe beam-gas, Touschek, beam-dust, and injection backgrounds. We do not observe significant synchrotron radiation, as expected. Measured LER beam-gas backgrounds and Touschek backgrounds in both rings are slightly elevated, on average three times larger than the levels predicted by simulation. HER beam-gas backgrounds are on on average two orders of magnitude larger than predicted. Systematic uncertainties and channel-to-channel variations are large, so that these excesses constitute only 1-2 sigma level effects. Neutron background rates are higher than predicted and should be studied further. We will measure the remaining beam background processes, due to colliding beams, in the imminent commissioning Phase 2. These backgrounds are expected to be the most critical for Belle II, to the point of necessitating replacement of detector components during the Phase 3 (full-luminosity) operation of SuperKEB.

Beam commissioning of the SuperKEKB collider began in 2016. The Beam Exorcism for A STable experiment II (BEAST II) project is particularly designed to measure the beam backgrounds around the interaction point of the SuperKEKB collider for the Belle II experiment. We develop a system using bismuth germanium oxide (BGO) crystals with optical fibers connecting to a multianode photomultiplier tube (MAPMT) and a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) embedded readout board for monitoring the real-time beam backgrounds in BEAST II. The overall radiation sensitivity of this system is estimated to be $(2.20\pm0.26)\times10^{-12}$ Gy/ADU (analog-to-digital unit) with the standard 10 m fibers for transmission and the MAPMT operating at 700 V. Our $γ$-ray irradiation study of the BGO system shows that the exposure of BGO crystals to $^{60}$Co $γ$-ray doses of 1 krad has led to immediate light output reductions of 25--40%, and the light outputs further drop by 30--45% after the crystals receive doses of 2--4 krad. Our findings agree with those of the previous studies on the radiation hard (RH) BGO crystals grown by the low thermal gradient Czochralski (LTG Cz) technology. The absolute dose from the BGO system is also consistent with the simulation, and is estimated to be about 1.18 times the equivalent dose. These results prove that the BGO system is able to monitor the background dose rate in real time under extreme high radiation conditions. This study concludes that the BGO system is reliable for the beam background study in BEAST II.

Abstract:
Recent results on baryonic B decays from the two b-factories, BABAR and Belle, are presented. These include studies of B+ to p pbar pi+, B+ to p Lambdabar gamma and B0 to p Lambdabar pi-; observations of B+ to p Lambdabar pi0, B to Lambda_c+ Lambda_c- K, and B+ to Xibar0_c Lambda_c+; and study of the inclusive B decays to Lambda_c.

The energy spectra of nuclear recoils from 7 keV to 132 keV were measured, and their quenching factors for scintillating light yield were derived. The data represents the first confirmation of the Optical Model predictions on neutron elastic scatterings with a direct measurement on the nuclear recoils of heavy nuclei. The pulse shape discrimination techniques to differentiate nuclear recoils from $γ$-background were studied. Internal consistencies were obtained among the different methods of light yield measurements. The projected capabilities for Cold Dark Matter searches with CsI(Tl) crystals are presented.
