Neutral atom arrays have emerged as a versatile platform towards scalable quantum computation and optimization. In this paper we present first demonstrations of weighted graph optimization on a Rydberg atom array using annealing with local light-shifts. We verify the ability to prepare weighted graphs in 1D and 2D arrays, including embedding a five vertex non-unit disk graph using nine physical qubits. We find common annealing ramps leading to preparation of the target ground state robustly over a substantial range of different graph weightings. This work provides a route to exploring large-scale optimization of non-planar weighted graphs relevant for solving relevant real-world problems.

We present an analysis of interspecies interactions between Rydberg $d$-states of rubidium and cesium. We identify the Förster resonance channels offering the strongest interspecies couplings, demonstrating the viability for performing high-fidelity two- and multi-qubit $C_kZ$ gates up to $k=4$, including accounting for blockade errors evaluated via numerical diagonalization of the pair-potentials…

We propose a robust and computationally efficient algorithm to generically construct first return maps of dynamical systems from time series without the need for embedding. Typically, a first return map is constructed using a heuristic convenience (maxima or zero-crossings of the time series, for example) or a computationally delicate geometric approach (explicitly constructing a Poincaré section from a hyper-surface normal to the flow and then interpolating to determine intersections with trajectories). Our approach relies on ordinal partitions of the time series and builds the first return map from successive intersections with particular ordinal sequences. Generically, we can obtain distinct first return maps for each ordinal sequence. We define entropy-based measures to guide our selection of the ordinal sequence for a ``good'' first return map and show that this method can robustly be applied to time series from classical chaotic systems to extract the underlying first return map dynamics. The results are shown on several well-known dynamical systems (Lorenz, R{ö}ssler and Mackey-Glass in chaotic regimes).

The production of lepton pairs (Drell-Yan process) at the LHC is being measured to high precision, enabling the extraction of distributions that are triply differential in the di-lepton mass and rapidity as well as in the scattering angle described by the leptons. The measurements are performed for a fiducial phase space, defined by cuts on the individual lepton momenta and rapidities. Based on the ATLAS triple-differential Drell-Yan measurement at 8~TeV, we perform a detailed investigation of the phenomenology of this process based on state-of-the-art perturbative predictions in QCD and the electroweak theory. Our results demonstrate the highly non-trivial interplay between measurement variables and fiducial cuts, which leads to forbidden regions at Born level, and induces sensitivity on extra particle emissions from higher perturbative orders. We also investigate the sensitivity of the measurement on parton distributions and electroweak parameters. We derive Standard-Model theory predictions which combine NNLO QCD and NLO EW corrections and include partial N$^3$LO QCD as well as higher-order EW corrections where appropriate. Our results will enable the use of the triple-differential Drell-Yan data in a precise experimental determination of the weak mixing angle.

The coherent interaction of Rydberg helium atoms with microwave fields in a $λ/4$ superconducting coplanar waveguide resonator has been exploited to probe the spectral characteristics of an individual resonator mode. This was achieved by preparing the atoms in the 1s55s$^3$S$_1$ Rydberg level by resonance enhanced two-color two-photon excitation from the metastable 1s2s$^3$S$_1$ level. The atoms then travelled over the resonator in which the third harmonic microwave field, at a frequency of $ω_{\mathrm{res}}=2π\times19.556$ GHz, drove the two-photon 1s55s$^3$S$_1\rightarrow$1s56s$^3$S$_1$ transition. By injecting a sequence of Ramsey pulses into the resonator, and monitoring the coherent evolution of the Rydberg state population by state-selective pulsed electric field ionization as the frequency of the microwave field was tuned, spectra were recorded that allowed the resonator resonance frequency and quality factor to be determined with the atoms acting as microscopic quantum sensors.

We present accurate QCD predictions for the transverse momentum pT spectrum of electroweak gauge bosons at the LHC for 13 TeV collisions, based on a consistent combination of a NNLO calculation at large pT and N3LL resummation in the small pT limit. The inclusion of higher order corrections leads to substantial changes in the shape of the differential distributions, and the residual perturbative uncertainties are reduced to the few percent level across the whole transverse momentum spectrum. We examine the ratio of pT distributions in charged- and neutral-current Drell-Yan production, and study different prescriptions for the estimate of perturbative uncertainties that rely on different degrees of correlation between these processes. We observe an excellent stability of the ratios with respect to the perturbative order, indicating a strong correlation between the corresponding QCD corrections.

Final states with a vector boson and a hadronic jet allow one to infer the Born-level kinematics of the underlying hard scattering process, thereby probing the partonic structure of the colliding protons. At forward rapidities, the parton collisions are highly asymmetric and resolve the parton distributions at very large or very small momentum fractions, where they are less well constrained by other processes. Using theory predictions accurate to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD for both $\mathrm{W}^{\pm}$ and $\mathrm{Z}$ production in association with a jet at large rapidities at the LHC, we perform a detailed phenomenological analysis of recent LHC measurements. The increased theory precision allows us to clearly identify specific kinematical regions where the description of the data is insufficient. By constructing ratios and asymmetries of these cross sections, we aim to identify possible origins of the deviations, and highlight the potential impact of the data on improved determinations of parton distributions.

The transverse momentum spectra of weak gauge bosons and their ratios probe the underlying dynamics and are crucial in testing our understanding of the Standard Model. They are an essential ingredient in precision measurements, such as the $\mathrm{W}$-boson mass extraction. To fully exploit the potential of the LHC data, we compute the second-order (NNLO) QCD corrections to the inclusive-$p_\mathrm{T}^\mathrm{W}$ spectrum as well as to the ratios of spectra for $\mathrm{W}^-/\mathrm{W}^+$ and $\mathrm{Z}/\mathrm{W}$. We find that the inclusion of NNLO QCD corrections considerably improves the theoretical description of the experimental CMS data and results in a substantial reduction of the residual scale uncertainties.

Abstract:
We use radial basis functions to model the input--output response of an electronic device. A new methodology for producing models that accuratly describe the response of the device over a wide range of operating points is introduced. A key to the success of the method is the ability to find a polynomial relationship between the model parameters and the operating points of the device.
