Superconductor/ferromagnet/superconductor Josephson junctions are paradigmatic systems for studying the delicate interplay of superconductivity and magnetism via proximity effects as well as their composite excitations. Here, we analyse the collective modes (CM) in such a heterostructure by taking into account the interplay between the de-magnetisation field $H_{dem}$ and the field caused by the anisotropy of the ferromagnet $H_{an}$, which was previously neglected. It turns out that the spectrum of composite collective modes, $ω(k)$, has a qualitatively different form in the case of $H_{dem}<H_{an}$ and of $H_{dem}>H_{an}$. In the first case, the dependence $ω(k)$ has the same form as in previous studies, whereas in the second case, the spectrum looks completely different. In particular, for moderate or weak anisotropy in ferromagnet the group velocity of collective modes demonstrates inflection point where the group velocity become infinite and is superluminal. Furthermore, this point separates purely real and complex-conjugate solutions for the collective modes and is also {\it exception point}. We show that the difference of the CMs spectra can be revealed by Fiske experiment, i.\,e.\,by measuring the $I-V$ characteristics in the presence of magnetic field and voltage.

Motivated by the recent experimental progress in studying conventional and unconventional superconductors in a pump-probe setup, we perform a comprehensive theoretical analysis of the nonlinear response of a diffusive BCS conventional superconductor to the action of an alternating electromagnetic field using a generalized Usadel equation. We analyze the response up to the second order of the perturbation in the amplitude of the vector potential $\vec{A}$, the superconducting order parameter $Δ$ and in the third order for the current $\vec{j}$. On the basis of this approach, we derive general expressions for the retarded (advanced) Green's functions, as well as the Keldysh function for an arbitrary number of harmonics of the incident field. Most importantly, we analyze the set of physical observables in a non-equilibrium superconductor, such as frequency and the temperature dependencies of the zero harmonic $δ( Δ)_0$ (Eliashberg effect), the second harmonic $δ( Δ)_{2Ω}$, as well as the third harmonic for the electric current $j(3Ω)$ under the action of a monochromatic irradiation. For the same set of parameters, we also analyze the behavior of the reflectivity and the down-conversion intensity of a thin superconducting film, discussed recently in the context of parametric amplification of superconductivity. We derive these quantities microscopically and show the connection of the down-conversion intensity to the third harmonic generation currents induced by the amplitude mode and the direct action of the electric field on the charge carriers.

We analyze theoretically the influence of domain walls (DWs) on the DC Josephson current in magnetic superconducting S$_{m}$/Fl/F/Fl/S$_{m}$ junctions. The Josephson junction consists of two "magnetic" superconductors S$_{m}$ (superconducting film covered by a thin ferromagnetic layer), spin filters Fl and a ferromagnetic layer F with or without DW (DWs). The spin filters Fl allow electrons to pass with one specific spin orientation, such that the Josephson coupling is governed by a fully polarized long-range triplet component. In the absence of DW(s), the Josephson and spin currents are nonzero when the right and left filters, Fl$_{r,l}$, pass electrons with equal spin orientation and differ only by a temperature-independent factor. They become zero when the \textbf{spins} of the triplet Cooper pairs passing through the Fl$_{r,l}$ have opposite directions. Furthermore, for the different chiralities of the injected triplet Cooper pairs the spontaneous currents arise in the junction yielding a diode effect. Once a DW is introduced, it reduces the critical Josephson current $I_{c}$ in the case of equal spin polarization and makes it finite in the case of opposite spin orientation. The critical current $I_{c}$ is maximal when the DW is in the center of the F film. A deviation of the DW from the center generates a force that pushes the DW to the center of the F film. In addition, we consider the case of an arbitrary number $N$ of DW's, with the case $N=2$ corresponding to a model system for a magnetic skyrmion.

In particular, we calculate the free energy of the S/N structure. We show that whereas the free energy of the N film $F_{N}$ in the presence of the proximity effect increases compared to the normal state, the total free energy, which includes the boundary term $F_{B}$, decreases. The condensate current decreases $F_{N}$, but increases the total free energy making the current-carrying state of the S/N system energetically unfavorable.

We analyze the Josephson,$I_{J}$, and dissipative,$I_{V}$, currents in a magnetic Andreev interferometer in the presence of the long-range spin triplet component (LRSTC). Andreev interferometer has a cross-like geometry and consists of a SF$_{l}$ - F - F$_{r}$S circuit and perpendicular to it a N - F - N circuit, where S, F$_{l,r}$ are superconductors and weak ferromagnets with non-collinear magnetisations $\mathbf{M}_{l,r}$, F is a strong ferromagnet with a high exchange energy. The ferromagnetic wire F can be replaced with a non-magnetic wire n. In the limit of a weak proximity effect (PE), we obtain simple analytical expressions for the currents $I_{J}$ and $I_{V}$. In particular, the critical Josephson current in a long Josephson junction (JJ) is $I_{c}(α,β)=I_{0c}χ(α,β)$, where the function $% χ(α,β)$ is a function of angles $(α,β)_{l,r}$ that characterize the orientations of $\mathbf{M}_{l,r}$. The oscillating part of the dissipative current $I_{osc}(V)=χ(α,β)\cos \varphi I_{0}(V)$ in the N - F(n)- N circuit depends on the angles $(α,β)_{l,r}$ in the same way as the critical Josephson current $I_{c}(α,β)$, but can be much greater than the $I_{c}(α,β)$. At some angles the current $I_{c}(α,β)$ changes sign. We briefly discuss a relation between the negative current $I_{c}$ and paramagnetic response. We argue that the measurements of the conductance in N - F(n) - N circuit can be used as another complementary method to identify the LRSTC in S/F heterostructures.

Topological spin configurations in proximity to a superconductor have recently attracted great interest due to the potential application of the former in spintronics and also as another platform for realizing non-trivial topological superconductors. Their application in these areas requires precise knowledge of the existing exchange fields and/or the stray-fields which are therefore essential for the study of these systems. Here, we determine the effective stray-field and the Meissner currents in a Superconductor/Ferromagnet/Superconductor (S/F/S) junction produced by various nonhomogenous magnetic textures in the F. The inhomogeneity arises either due to a periodic structure with flat domain walls (DW) or is caused by an isolated chiral magnetic skyrmion (Sk). We consider both Bloch- and Néel-type Sk and also analyze in detail the periodic structures of different types of DW's-- that is Bloch-type DW (BDW) and Néel-type DW (NDW) of finite width with in- and out-of-plane magnetization vector. The spatial dependence of the fields and Meissner currents are shown to be qualitatively different for the case of Bloch- and Néel-type magnetic textures. While the spatial distributions in the upper and lower S are identical for Bloch-type Sk and DW's they are asymmetric for the case of Néel-type magnetic textures. The depairing factor, which determines the critical temperature and which is related to vector potential of the stray-field, can have its maximum at the center of a magnetic domain but also, as we show, above the DW. For Sk's the maximum is located at a finite distance within the Sk radius. Based on this, we study the nucleation of superconductivity in the presence of DW's. Because of the asymmetry for Néel-type structures, the critical temperature in the upper and lower S is expected to be different. The obtained results can also be applied to S/F bilayers.

Superconductor-Ferromagnet hybrid structures (SF) have attracted much interest in the last decades, due to a variety of interesting phenomena predicted and observed in these structures. One of them is the so-called inverse proximity effect. It is described by a spin polarization of Cooper pairs, which occurs not only in the ferromagnet (F), but also in the superconductor (S) yielding a finite magnetic moment $M_{\text{S}}$ inside the superconductor. This effect has been predicted and experimentally studied. However, interpretation of the experimental data is mostly ambiguous. Here, we study theoretically the impact of the spin polarized Cooper pairs on the Josephson effect in an SFS junction. We show that the induced magnetic moment $M_{\text{S}}$ does depend on the phase difference $\varphi$ and therefore, will oscillate in time with the Josephson frequency $2eV/\hbar$ if the current exceeds a critical value. Most importantly, the spin polarization in the superconductor causes a significant change in the Fraunhofer pattern, which can be easily accessed experimentally.

The latter is induced by the inverse proximity effect over a distance of the order of the superconducting correlation length $ξ_{S}$. On the other hand the magnetic induction $B$, caused by Meissner currents, penetrates the S film over the London length $λ_{S}$. Even though $λ_{S}$ usually exceeds considerably the correlation length, the amplitude and sign of $B$ at distances much larger than $ξ_{S}$ depends crucially on the strength of the exchange energy in the ferromagnet and on the magnetic moment induced in the in the S layer.

We investigate a hybrid heterostructure with magnetic skyrmions (Sk) inside a chiral ferromagnet interfaced by a thin superconducting film via an insulating barrier. The barrier prevents the electronic transport between the superconductor and the chiral magnet, such that the coupling can only occur through the magnetic fields generated by these materials. We find that Pearl vortices (PV) are generated spontaneously in the superconductor within the skyrmion radius, while anti-Pearl vortices (\(\overline{\mathrm{PV}}\)) compensating the magnetic moment of the Pearl vortices are generated outside of the Sk radius, forming an energetically stable topological hybrid structure. Finally, we analyze the interplay of skyrmion and vortex lattices and their mutual feedback on each other. In particular, we argue that the size of the skyrmions will be greatly affected by the presence of the vortices offering another prospect of manipulating the skyrmionic size by the proximity to a superconductor.

In singlet Josephson weak links, two singlet superconductors S are connected with each other by a normal film (N) or wire. Triplet JJs, which we denote S$_{\text{m}}$/N(F)/S$_{\text{m}}$, are formed by two singlet BCS superconductors covered by a thin layer of a weak ferromagnet F$_{\text{w}}$. These superconductors S$_{\text{m}}$ are separated from the N (or F) layer by spin filters, which pass electrons with only one spin orientation. The triplet Cooper pairs propagating from the left (right) superconductors S$_{\text{m}}$ differ from each other not only by polarizations, but also by chiralities. The latter is determined by the magnetization orientation in weak ferromagnets F$_{\text{w}}$. We obtain analytical formulas for the critical Josephson current in both types of the JJs. If chiralities of the triplet Cooper pairs penetrating into the N film in S$_{\text{m}}$/N(F)/S$_{\text{m}}$ JJs from the left and right S$_{\text{m}}$ are different, the Josephson current is not zero in the absence of the phase difference (spontaneous Josephson current). We also calculate the admittance $Y(Ω)$ for arbitrary frequencies $Ω$ in the case of singlet JJs and for low frequencies in the case of triplet JJs. At low temperatures $T$, the real part of the admittance $Y^{\prime}(Ω)$ in singlet JJs starts to increase from zero at ${\hbar Ω\geq Δ_{\text{sg}}}$, but at ${T \geq Δ_{\text{sg}}}$, it has a peak at low frequencies the magnitude of which is determined by inelastic processes. The subgap $Δ_{\text{sg}}$ depends on transparencies of the S/N interfaces and on the phase difference $2 χ_{0}$. The low-frequency peak in $Y^{\prime}(Ω)$ in triplet JJs disappears.

The admittance of two types of Josephson weak links is calculated, i.e., of a one-dimensional superconducting wire with a local suppression of the order parameter, and the second is a short S-c-S structure, where S denotes a superconductor and c---a constriction. The systems of the first type are analyzed on the basis of time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations. We show that the impedance $Z(Ω)$ has a maximum as a function of the frequency $Ω$, and the electric field $E_Ω$ is determined by two gauge-invariant quantities---the condensate momentum $Q_Ω$ and the potential $μ$ related to charge imbalance. The structures of the second type are studied on the basis of microscopic equations for quasiclassical Green's functions in the Keldysh technique. For short S-c-S contacts (the Thouless energy ${E_{\text{Th}} = D/L^{2} \gg Δ}$) we present a formula for admittance $Y$ valid at frequencies $Ω$ and temperatures $T$ less than the Thouless energy but arbitrary with respect to the energy gap $Δ$. It is shown that, at low temperatures, the absorption is absent [${\mathrm{Re}(Y) = 0}$] if the frequency does not exceed the energy gap in the center of the constriction (${Ω< Δ\cos \varphi_{0}}$, where $2 \varphi_{0}$ is the phase difference between the S reservoirs). The absorption gradually increases with increasing the difference ${(Ω- Δ\cos \varphi_{0})}$ if $2 \varphi_{0}$ is less than the phase difference $2 \varphi_{\text{c}}$ corresponding to the critical Josephson current. In the interval ${2 \varphi_{\text{c}} < 2 \varphi_{0} < π}$, the absorption has a maximum. This interval of the phase difference is achievable in phase-biased Josephson junctions. Close to $T_{\text{c}}$ the admittance has a maximum at low $Ω$ which is described by an analytical formula.

We demonstrate that, in this case, the amplitude mode corresponding to oscillations $δ|Δ|_Ω \exp(i Ωt)$ of the superconducting gap is excited by an external ac electric field $\mathbf{E}_Ω \exp(i Ωt)$ already in the first order in $|\mathbf{E}_Ω|$, so that ${δ|Δ|_Ω \propto (\mathbf{v}_{0} \mathbf{E}_Ω)}$, where $\mathbf{v}_{0}$ is the velocity of the condensate. The frequency dependence $δ|Δ|_Ω$ has a resonance shape with a maximum at ${Ω= 2 Δ}$. In contrast to the standard situation without the condensate flow, the oscillations of the amplitude $δ|Δ(t)|$ contribute to the admittance $Y_Ω$. We provide a formula for admittance of a superconductor with a supercurrent. The predicted effect opens new ways of experimental investigation of the amplitude mode in superconductors and materials with superconductivity competing with other states.

This junction is composed by "magnetic" superconductors S$_{\text{m}}$ which have singlet pairing and are separated from the normal n~wire by spin filters so that the Josephson coupling is caused only by fully polarized triplet components. We show that there is no interaction between triplet Cooper pairs with antiparallel total spin orientations. The presence of an additional singlet superconductor S attached to the n wire leads to a finite Josephson current $I_{\text{Q}}$ with an unusual current--phase relation. The density of states in the n wire for different orientations of spins of Cooper pairs is calculated. We derive a general formula for the current $I_{\text{Q}}$ in a multi-terminal Josephson contact and apply this formula for analysis of two four-terminal Josephson junctions of different structures. It is shown in particular that both the "nematic" and the "magnetic" cases can be realized in these junctions. In a two-terminal structure with parallel filter orientations and in a three-terminal structure with antiparallel filter orientations of the "magnetic" superconductors with attached additional singlet superconductor, we find a nonmonotonic temperature dependence of the critical current. Also, in these structures, the critical current shows a Riedel peak like dependence on the exchange field in the "magnetic" superconductors. Although there is no current through the S/n interface due to orthogonality of the singlet and triplet components, the phase of the order parameter in the superconuctor S is shown to affect the Josephson current in a multi-terminal structure.

Interaction of a polarized triplet component and a singlet one results in creation of triplet Cooper pairs with opposite spin direction or of different chiralities. Such spin transformation leads to interesting phenomena in multiterminal magnetic Josephson junctions. We calculate the dc Josephson current $I_{\text{J}}$ in a multiterminal Josephson contact of the S$_{\text{m}}$/n/S$_{\text{m}}^{\prime}$ type with "magnetic" superconductors S$_{\text{m}}$ that generate fully polarized triplet components. The superconductors S$_{\text{m}}$ are attached to magnetic insulators (filters) which let to pass electrons with a fixed spin direction only. The filter axes are assumed to be oriented antiparallel to each other. The Josephson current is zero in two-terminal Josephson junction, i.e., in S/n/S$_{\text{m}}$ or in S$_{\text{m}}$/n/S$_{\text{m}}^{\prime}$ contact. But in the three-terminal Josephson junction, with another S superconductor attached to the normal wire, the finite current $I_{\text{J}}$ appears flowing from the S~superconductor to S$_{\text{m}}$ superconductors. The currents through the right (left) superconductors S$_{\text{m}}$ are opposite in sign, ${I_{\text{R}} \equiv I_{\text{J}} = I_{\text{c}} \sin (χ_{\text{R}} + χ_{\text{L}} - 2 χ) = - I_{\text{L}}}$, where $χ_{\text{L/R}}$ and $χ$ are the phases of superconductors S$_{\text{m}}$, S$_{\text{m}}^{\prime}$, and S, respectively. Due to spin filtering only fully polarized triplet component penetrates the normal n~wire and provides the Josephson coupling between the superconductors~S. Although both filters let to pass triplet Cooper pairs with total spin~$\mathbf{S}$ parallel to the filter axes, the behavior of nematic and magnetic JJs is completely different. Whereas in the nematic case the charge and spin currents,~$I_{\text{Q}}$ and~$I_{\text{sp}}$, do not depend on mutual orientation of the filter axes, both currents vanish in magnetic~JJ in case of antiparallel filter axes, and change sign under reversing the filter direction. The obtained expressions for~$I_{\text{Q}}$ and~$I_{\text{sp}}$ show clearly a duality between the superconducting phase~$\varphi$ and the angle~$α$ between the exchange fields in the weak magnetic layers.

We calculate a nondissipative spin current and show that it can flow with or without a charge current. We consider a two-band model which can be applied to the description of Fe-based pnictides in coexistence regime of superconductivity and spin-density wave. Using quasiclassical Green's functions approach and tunneling Hamiltonian method we show that there exists a possibility to switch off the Josephson current while leaving the spin current finite. Moreover, it is possible to have the critical Josephson current and the critical spin current being proportional to each other, thus giving a possibility to measure the spin current via the Josephson current. The underlying mechanism is the interfering hop** of electron--hole pairs between different bands of the superconductors composing the junction. This is an intrinsic property of the system and provides a unique and natural way to utilize junctions made solely of pnictides in promising applications in spintronics devices.

Interfacial superconductivity is observed in a variety of heterostructures composed of different materials including superconducting and nonsuperconducting (at appropriate do** and temperatures) cuprates and iron-based pnictides. The origin of this superconductivity remains in many cases unclear. Here, we propose a general mechanism of interfacial superconductivity for systems with competing order parameters. We assume that parameters characterizing the material allow formation of another order like charge- or spin-density wave competing and prevailing superconductivity in the bulk (hidden superconductivity). Diffusive electron scattering on the interface results in a suppression of this order and releasing the superconductivity. Our theory is based on the use of Ginzburg--Landau equations applicable to a broad class of systems. We demonstrate that the local superconductivity appears in the vicinity of the interface and the spatial dependence of the superconducting order parameter~$Δ(x)$ is described by the Gross--Pitaevskii equation. Solving this equation we obtain quantized values of temperature and do** levels at which~$Δ(x)$ appears. Remarkably, the local superconductivity shows up even in the case when the rival order is only slightly suppressed and may arise also on the surface of the sample (surface superconductivity).

On the basis of coupled Ginzburg--Landau equations we study nonhomogeneous states in systems with two order parameters~(OP). Superconductors with superconducting OP~$Δ$, and charge- or spin-density wave (CDW or SDW) with amplitude~$W$ are examples of such systems. When one of OP, say~$Δ$, has a form of a topological defect, like, e.g., vortex or domain wall between the domains with the phases~$0$ and~$π$, the other OP~$W$ is determined by the Gross--Pitaevskii equation and is localized at the center of the defect. We consider in detail the domain wall defect for~$Δ$ and show that the shape of the associated solution for~$W$ depends on temperature and do** (or on the curvature of the Fermi surface)~$μ$. It turns out that, provided temperature or do** level are close to some discrete values~$T_{n}$ and~$μ_{n}$, the spacial dependence of the function~$W(x)$ is determined by the form of the eigenfunctions of the linearized Gross--Pitaevskii equation. The spacial dependence of~$W_{0}$ corresponding to the ground state has the form of a soliton, while other possible solutions~$W_{n}(x)$ have nodes. Inverse situation~when~$W(x)$ has the form of a topological defect and~$Δ(x)$ is localized at the center of this defect is also possible. In particular, we predict a surface or interfacial superconductivity in a system where a superconductor is in contact with a material that suppresses~$W$. This superconductivity should have rather unusual temperature dependence existing only in certain intervals of temperature. Possible experimental realizations of such non-homogeneous states of OPs are discussed.

We consider a simple model of a quasi-one-dimensional conductor in which two order parameters (OP) may coexist, i.e., the superconducting OP $Δ$ and the OP $W$ that characterizes the amplitude of a charge-density wave (CDW). In the mean field approximation we present equations for the matrix Green's functions $G_{ik}$, where $i$ relates to the one of the two Fermi sheets and $k$, operates in the Gor'kov-Nambu space. Using the solutions of these equations, we find stationary states for different values of the parameter describing the curvature of the Fermi surface, $μ$, which can be varied, e.g., by do**. It is established that in the interval $μ_1<μ<μ_2$ the self-consistency equations have a solution for coexisting OPs $Δ$ and $W$. However, this solution corresponds to a saddle point in the energy functional $Φ(Δ, W)$, i.e., it is unstable. Stable states are: 1)the state with the CDW at $μ< μ_{2}$; and 2) the purely superconducting state at $μ_1<μ$. At $μ<μ_0$, the state 1) corresponds to a global minimum, and at $μ_0<μ$, the state 2) has a lower energy, i.e., only the superconducting state survives at large $μ$. We study the dynamics of the variations $δΔ$ and $δW$ from these states in the collisionless limit. It is characterized by two modes of oscillations, the fast and the slow one. The fast mode is analogous to damped oscillations in conventional superconductors. The frequency of slow modes depends on the curvature $μ$ and is much smaller than $2Δ$ if the coupling constants for superconductivity and CDW are close to each other. The considered model can be applied to high-$T_c$ superconductors where the parts of the Fermi surface near the `hot' spots may be regarded as the considered two Fermi sheets. We also discuss relation of the considered model to the simplest model for Fe-based pnictides.

Using a simple two-band model for Fe-based pnictides and the generalized Eilenberger equation, we present a microscopic derivation of a time-dependent equation for the amplitude of the spin density wave near the quantum critical point where it turns to zero. This equation describes the dynamics of the magnetic---$m$, as well as the superconducting order parameter---$Δ$. It is valid at low temperatures $T$ and small $m$ (${T, m \ll Δ}$) in a region of coexistence of both order parameters, $m$ and $Δ$. The boundary of this region is found in the space of the nesting parameter $\{μ_{0},μ_φ\}$ where $μ_{0}$ describes the relative position of the electron and the hole pockets on the energy scale, and $μ_φ$ accounts for the ellipticity of the electron pocket. At low $T$ the number of quasiparticles is small due to the presence of the energy gap $Δ$, and therefore the quasiparticles do not play a role in the relaxation of $m$. This circumstance allows one to derive the time-dependent equation for $m$ in contrast to the case of conventional superconductors for which the time-dependent Ginzburg--Landau equation can be derived near $T_{\text{c}}$ only in some special cases (high concentration of paramagnetic impurities. In the stationary case the derived equation is valid at arbitrary temperatures. We find a solution of the stationary equation which describes a domain wall in the magnetic structure. In the center of the domain wall the superconducting order parameter has a maximum, which means a local enhancement of superconductivity. Using the derived time-dependent equation for $m$, we investgate also the stability of a uniform commensurate SDW and obtain the values of $\{μ_{0}, μ_φ\}$ at which the first order transition into the state with ${m = 0}$ takes place or the transition to the state with an inhomogeneous SDW occurs.

Our study is based on the tunneling Hamiltonian and the Green's function technique. First, we focus on the quasiparticle transport, both above and below the superconducting critical temperature. We obtain a general expression for the tunneling conductance which are valid for arbitrary values of the exchange field and arbitrary magnetization directions in the electrodes and in the spin-filter barrier. In the second part we consider the subgap conductance of a normal metal-superconductor junction with a spin-filter barrier. We provide a heuristic derivation of new boundary conditions for the quasiclassical Green's functions which take into account the spin-filter effect at the interface. With the help of these boundary conditions, we show how the proximity effect and the subgap conductance is suppressed by spin-filtering in a $N/I_{sf}/S$ junction, where $N$ is a normal metal. Our work provides useful tools for the study of spin-polarized transport in hybrid structures both in the normal and the superconducting state.

We employ the tunneling Hamiltonian method and quasiclassical Green's functions. We study both the case of coexistence of the superconducting ($Δ$) and magnetic (SDW---spin density wave) order parameters and the case when only the superconducting order parameter exists. We show that the current $I_{\text{J}}$ depends on the mutual orientation of magnetization of the SDW in the case of non-ideal nesting when the coexistence of superconducting and magnetic order parameters is possible as it takes place in Fe\nobreakdash-based pnictides. It is found that the realization of the $π$\nobreakdash-junction is possible in both cases. We compare our results for multi-band superconductors without the SDW with those obtained earlier and find that they coincide if the tunneling matrix elements are real. If these elements are complex, a new term appears in the formula for the Josephson critical current.

We present a theoretical study of the effect of spin-filtering on the Josephson and dissipative quasiparticle currents in a superconducting tunnel junction. By combining the quasiclassical Green's functions and the tunneling Hamiltonian method we describe the transport properties of a generic junction consisting of two superconducting leads with an effective exchange field h separated by a spin-filter insulating barrier. We show that besides the tunneling of Cooper pairs with total spin-projection Sz = 0 there is another contribution to the Josephson current due to equal-spin Cooper pairs. The latter is finite and not affected by the spin-filter effect provided that the fields h and the magnetization of the barrier are non-collinear . We also determine the quasiparticle current for a symmetric junction and show that the differential conductance may exhibit peaks at different values of the voltage depending on the polarization of the spin-filter, and the relative angle between the exchange fields and the magnetization of the barrier. Our findings provide a plausible explanation for existing experiments on Josephson junctions with magnetic barriers, predict new effects and show how spin-polarized supercurrents in hybrid structures can be created.

We study Josephson-like junctions formed by materials with antiferromagnetic (AF) order parameters. As an antiferromagnet, we consider a two-band material in which a spin density wave (SDW) arises. This could be Fe-based pnictides in the temperature interval ${T_{\text{c}}\leq T\leq T_{N}}$, where $T_{c}$ and $T_{N}$ are the critical temperatures for the superconducting and antiferromagnetic transitions, respectively. The spin current $j_{\text{Sp}}$ in AF/F/AF junctions with a ballistic ferromagnetic layer and in tunnel AF/I/AF junctions is calculated. It depends on the angle between the magnetization vectors in the AF leads in the same way as the Josephson current depends on the phase difference of the superconducting order parameters in S/I/S tunnel junctions. It turns out that in AF/F/AF junctions, two components of the SDW order parameter are induced in the F\nobreakdash-layer. One of them oscillates in space with a short period ${ξ_{\text{F,b}} \sim \hbar v/\mathcal{H}}$ while the other decays monotonously from the interfaces over a long distance of the order ${ξ_{\text{N,b}}=\hbar v/2πT}$ (where $v$, $\mathcal{H}$ and $T$ are the Fermi velocity, the exchange energy and the temperature, respectively; the subindex $\text{b}$ denotes the ballistic case). This is a clear analogy with the case of Josephson S/F/S junctions with a nonhomogeneous magnetization where short- and long\nobreakdash-range condensate components are induced in the F\nobreakdash-layer. However, in contrast to the charge Josephson current in S/F/S junctions, the spin current in AF/F/AF junctions is not constant in space, but oscillates in the ballistic F\nobreakdash-layer. We also calculate the dependence of $j_{\text{Sp}}$ on the deviation from the ideal nesting in the AF/I/AF junctions.

We study the dynamics of Josephson junctions with a thin ferromagnetic layer F [superconductor-ferromagnet-insulator-ferromagnet-superconductor (SFIFS) junctions]. In such junctions, the phase difference $φ$ of the superconductors and magnetization $M$ in the F layer are two dynamic parameters coupled to each other. We derive equations describing the dynamics of these two parameters and formulate the conditions of validity. The coupled Josephson plasma waves and oscillations of the magnetization $M$ affect the form of the current-voltage ($I$-$V$) characteristics in the presence of a weak magnetic field (Fiske steps). We calculate the modified Fiske steps and show that the magnetic degree of freedom not only changes the form of the Fiske steps but also the overall view of the $I$-$V$ curve (new peaks related to the magnetic resonance appear). The $I$-$V$ characteristics are shown for different lengths of the junction including those which correspond to the current experimental situation. We also calculate the power $P$ absorbed in the system if a microwave radiation with an ac in-plane magnetic field is applied (magnetic resonance). The derived formula for the power $P$ essentially differs from the one which describes the power absorption in an isolated ferromagnetic film. In particular, this formula describes the peaks related to the excitation of standing plasma waves as well as the peak associated with the magnetic resonance.

We derive equations for the quasiclassical Green's functions $\check{g}$ within a simple model of a two-band superconductor with a spin-density-wave (SDW). The elements of the matrix $\check{g}$ are the retarded, advanced, and Keldysh functions each of which is an $8\times 8$ matrix in the Gor'kov-Nambu, the spin and the band space. In equilibrium, these equations are a generalization of the Eilenberger equation. On the basis of the derived equations we analyze the Knight shift, the proximity and the dc Josephson effects in the superconductors under consideration. The Knight shift is shown to depend on the orientation of the external magnetic field with respect to the direction of the vector of the magnetization of the SDW. The proximity effect is analyzed for an interface between a superconductor with the SDW and a normal metal. The function describing both superconducting and magnetic correlations is shown to penetrate the normal metal or a metal with the SDW due to the proximity effect. The dc Josephson current in an $S_{SDW}/N/S_{SDW}$ junction is also calculated as a function of the phase difference $φ$. It is shown that in our model the Josephson current does not depend on the mutual orientation of the magnetic moments in the superconductors $S_{SDW}$ and is proportional to $ \sin φ$. The dissipationless spin current $j_{sp}$ depends on the angle $α$ between the magnetization vectors in the same way ($j_{sp} \sim \sin α$) and is not zero above the superconducting transition temperature.

We assume that the exchange energies in the F' and F layers are different ($% h $ and $H$, respectively) and the middle F layer consists of two layers with parallel or antiparallel magnetization vectors $M$. The $M$ vectors in the left and right F' layers are generally not collinear to those in the F layer. In the limit of a weak proximity effect we use a linearized Usadel equation. Solving this equation, we calculate the Josephson critical current for arbitrary temperatures, arbitrary thicknesses of the F' and F layers ($% L_{h}$ and $L_{H}$) in the case of parallel and antiparallel $M$ orientations in the F layer. The part of the critical current $I_{cSR}$ formed by the short-range (SRC) singlet and S=0 triplet condensate components decays on a short length $ξ_{H}=\sqrt{D/H}$, whereas the part $% I_{cLR}$ due to the long-range triplet $|S|=1$ component (LRTC) decreases with increasing $L_{H}$ on the length $ξ_{N}=\sqrt{D/πT}$. The $c-$axis in the superconductor and DW in the ferromagnet are assumed to be perpendicular to the interface. We demonstrate that in such a heterostructure the inhomogeneous exchange field enhances the proximity effect. It is shown that, whereas in the absence of the exchange field the $d-$wave condensate decays in the normal metal on the mean free path $l$, the superconductivity penetrates the ferromagnet along the DW over much larger distances. This happens because the presence of DW results in a generation of an odd frequency triplet s-wave component of the condensate. We study the proximity effect in superconductor-ferromagnet (SF) structure with a narrow domain wall (DW) at the SF interface. The width of the domain wall is assumed to be larger than the Fermi wave length, but smaller than other characteristic lengths (for example, the ''magnetic'' length). The transmission coefficient is supposed to be small so that we deal with a weak proximity effect. Solving the linearized Eilenberger equation, we find analytical expressions for quasiclassical Green's functions. These functions describe the short-range (SR) condensate components, singlet and triplet with zero projection of the total spin on the quantization z-axis, induced in F due to the proximity effect as well as long-range odd triplet component (LRTC) with a nonzero projection of the total spin of Cooper pairs on the $z$% -axis. The amplitude of the LRTC essentially depends on the product $hτ$ and increases with increasing the exchange energy $h$ ($τ$ is the elastic scattering time). We calculate the Josephson current in SFS junction with a thickness of the F layer much greater than the penetration length of the SR components. The Josephson critical current caused by the LRTC may be both positive and negative depending on chirality of the magnetic structure in F.
The density of states (DOS) in a diffusive SF bilayer is also analyzed. It is shown that the contributions of the SR and LR components to the DOS in F have a different dependence on the thickness $d$ of the F layer (nonmonotonous and monotonous).

We consider a magnetic superconductor MS with a spiral magnetic structure. On the basis of generalized Eilenberger and Usadel equations we show that near the boundary of the MS with an insulator or vacuum the condensate (Gor'kov's) Green's functions are disturbed by boundary conditions and differ essentially from their values in the bulk. Corrections to the bulk quasiclassical Green's functions oscillate with the period of the magnetic spiral, $2π/Q$, and decay inside the superconductor over a length of the order $v/πT$ (ballistic limit) or $\sqrt{D/πT}$ (diffusive limit). We calculate the dc Josephson current in an MS/I/MS tunnel junction and show that the critical Josephson current differs substantially from that obtained with the help of the tunnel Hamiltonian method and bulk Green's functions.

We consider a $SBS$ Josephson junction the superconducting electrodes $S$ of which are in contact with normal metal reservoirs ($B$ means a barrier). For temperatures near $T_{c}$ we calculate an effective critical current $% I_{c}^{\ast}$ and the resistance of the system at the currents $I<$ $% I_{c}^{\ast}$ and $I>>I_{c}^{\ast}$. It is found that the charge imbalance, which arises due to injection of quasiparticles from the $N$ reservoirs into the $S$ wire, affects essentially the characteristics of the structure. The effective critical current $I_{c}^{\ast}$ is always larger than the critical current $I_{c}$ in the absence of the normal reservoirs and increases with decreasing the ratio of the length of the $S$ wire $2L$ to the charge imbalance relaxation length $l_{Q}$. It is shown that a series of peaks arises on the $I-V$ characteristics due to excitation of the Carlson-Goldman collective modes. We find the position of Shapiro steps which deviates from that given by the Josephson relation.

We analyze collective modes in two-band superconductors in the dirty limit. It is shown that these modes exist at all temperatures $T$ below $T_{c}$ provided the frequency of the modes is higher than the inelastic scattering rate and lower than the energy gaps $Δ_{a,b}$. At low temperatures these modes are related to counterphase oscillations of the condensate currents in each band. The spectrum of the collective oscillations is similar to the spectrum of the Josephson ''plasma'' modes in a tunnel Josephson junction but the velocity of the mode propagation in the case under consideration is much lower. At higher temperatures ($Δ_{b}<T<T_{c}$) the spectrum consists of two branches. One of them is gapless (sound-like) and the second one has a threshhold that depends on coupling between the bands. We formulate the conditions under which both types of collective modes can exist. The spectrum of the collective modes can be determined by measuring the I-V characteristics of a Josephson junction in a way as it was done by Carlson and Goldman.

We study two different superconductor-ferromagnet (S/F) structures. We consider first a Josephson junction which consists of two S/F bilayers separated by an insulating layer. We show that for an antiparallel alignment of the magnetization in the two F layers the Josephson critical current $I_c$ increases with increasing exchange field $h$. The second system we consider is a S/F structure with a local inhomogeneity of the magnetization in the ferromagnet near the S/F interface. Due to the proximity effect not only a singlet but also a triplet component of the superconducting condensate is induced in the ferromagnet. The latter penetrates over the length $\sqrt{D/ε}$ ($D$ is the diffusion coefficient and $ε$ the energy). In the case of temperatures of the order of the Thouless energy this length is comparable to the length of the ferromagnet. This long-range penetration leads to a significant increase of the ferromagnet conductance below the superconducting critical temperature $T_c$. Contrary to the case of the singlet component, the contribution to the conductance due to the odd triplet component is not zero at $T = 0$ and $V = 0$ ($V$ is the voltage) and decays with increasing temperature T in a monotonic way

We review the present status of the experimental and theoretical research on the proximity effect in heterostructures composed of superconducting (S) and ferromagnetic (F) thin films. First, we discuss traditional effects originating from the oscillatory behavior of the superconducting pair wave function in the F-layer. Then, we concentrate on recent theoretical predictions for S/F layer systems. These are a) generation of odd triplet superconductivity in the F-layer and b) ferromagnetism induced in the S-layer below the superconducting transition temperature $T_{c}$ (inverse proximity effect). The second part of the review is devoted to discussion of experiments relevant to the theoretical predictions of the first part. In particular, we present results of measurements of the critical temperature $T_{c}$ as a function of the thickness of F-layers and we review experiments indicating existence of odd triplet superconductivity, cryptoferromagnetism and inverse proximity effect.

We consider a SFS Josephson junction made of two superconductors S and a multidomain ferromagnet F with an in-plane magnetization. We assume that the neighboring domains of the ferromagnet are separated by Neel domain walls. An odd-frequency triplet long-range component of superconducting correlations arises in the domain walls and spreads into the domains over a long distance of the order $ξ_T = \sqrt{D / 2 πT}$, where $D$ is the diffusion coefficient (dirty limit is implied). We calculate the contribution of this component to the Josephson current in the situation when conventional short-range components exponentially decay over the thickness of the F layer and can be neglected. In the limit when the thickness of the F layer is much smaller than the penetration length of the long-range component, we find that the junction is in the $π$ state. We also analyze a correction to the density of states due to the long-range triplet component.

We analyze a superconductor-ferromagnet (S/F) system with a spiral magnetic structure in the ferromagnet F for a weak and strong exchange field. The long-range triplet component (LRTC) penetrating into the ferromagnet over a long distance is calculated for both cases. In the dirty limit (or weak ferromagnetism) we study the LRTC for conical ferromagnets. Its spatial dependence undergoes a qualitative change as a function of the cone angle θ. At small angles the LRTC decays in the ferromagnet exponentially in a monotonic way. If the angle θexceeds a certain value, the exponential decay of the LRTC is accompanied by oscillations with a period that depends on θ. This oscillatory behaviour leads to a similar dependence of the Josephson critical current in SFS junctions on the thickness of the F layer. In the case of a strong ferromagnet the LRTC decays over the length which is determined by the wave vector of the magnetic spiral and by the exchange field.

We study a change in the spin magnetization of a superconductor-ferromagnet (SF) heterostructure, when temperature is lowered below the superconducting transition temperature. It is assumed that the SF interface is smooth on the atomic scale and the mean free path is not too short. Solving the Eilenberger equation we show that the spin magnetic moment induced in the superconductor is an oscillating sign-changing function of the product $hd$ of the exchange field $h$ and the thickness $d$ of the ferromagnet. Therefore the total spin magnetic moment of the system in the superconducting state can be not only smaller (screening) but also greater (anti-screening) than that in the normal state, in contrast with the case of highly disordered (diffusive) systems, where only screening is possible. This surprising effect is due to peculiar periodic properties of localized Andreev states in the system. It is most pronounced in systems with ideal ballistic transport (no bulk disorder in the samples, smooth ideally transparent interface), however these ideal conditions are not crucial for the very existence of the effect. We show that oscillations exist (although suppressed) even for arbitrary low interface transparency and in the presence of bulk disorder, provided that $h τ\gg 1$ ($τ$ -- mean free path). At low interface transparency we solve the problem for arbitrary strength of disorder and obtain oscillating magnetization in ballistic regime ($h τ\gg 1$) and nonoscillating magnetization in diffusive one ($h τ\ll 1$) as limiting cases of one formula.
