We revisit the Next-to-Leading Order (two-loop) contributions to the Anomalous Dimensions of $ΔF = 1$ four-quark operators in QCD. We devise a test for anomalous dimensions, that we regard as of general interest, and by means of which we detect a problem in the results available in the literature. Deconstructing the steps leading to the available result, we identify the source of the problem, which is related to the operator known as $Q_{11}$. We show how to fix the problem and provide the corrected anomalous dimensions. With the insight of our findings, we propose an alternative approach to the one used in the literature which does not suffer from the identified disease, and which confirms our corrected results. We assess the numerical impact of our corrections, which happens to be in the ballpark of $5\%$ in certain entries of the evolution matrix. Our results are important for the correct resummation of Next-to-Leading Logarithms in analyses of physics beyond the Standard Model in $ΔF = 1$ processes, such as the decays of Kaons and $B$-mesons.

We propose a stronger formulation of the dispersive (or unitarity) bounds à la Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed (BGL), which are commonly applied in analyses of the hadronic form factors for $B$ decays. In our approach, the existing bounds are split into several new bounds, thereby disentangling form factors that are jointly bounded in the common approach. This leads to stronger constraints for these objects, to a significant simplification of our numerical analysis, and to the removal of spurious correlations among the form factors. We apply these novel bounds to $\bar{B}\to \bar{K}^{(*)}$ and $\bar{B}_s\to φ$ form factors by fitting them to purely theoretical constraints. Using a suitable parametrization, we take into account the form factors' below-threshold branch cuts arising from on-shell $\bar{B}_s π^0$ and $\bar{B}_s π^0 π^0$ states, which so-far have been ignored in the literature. In this way, we eliminate a source of hard-to-quantify systematic uncertainties. We provide machine readable files to obtain the full set of the $\bar{B}\to \bar{K}^{(*)}$ and $\bar{B}_s\to φ$ form factors in and beyond the entire semileptonic phase space.

These results complement the sum rules for the $P$-wave $B\to K π$ form factors obtained earlier. We then use the new sum rules to estimate the $S$-wave contributions to $B\to K π\ell\ell$ decays as a function of the $Kπ$ invariant mass. We pay particular attention to the fact that the $S$-wave $Kπ$ spectrum cannot be modelled by a sum of Breit-Wigner resonances, and employ a more consistent dispersive coupled-channel approach. We compare our predictions for branching ratios and angular observables with LHCb measurements in two different kinematic regions, around $K^*(892)$ and $K^*_0(1430)$. We observe an overall compatibility and discuss possible improvements of our model to obtain a better description of the $B\to Kπ$ form factors over a large kinematic range.

This paper presents a comprehensive review of both the theory and experimental successes of Quantum Chromodynamics, starting with its emergence as a well defined theory in 1972-73 and following developments and results up to the present day. Topics include a review of the earliest theoretical and experimental foundations; the fundamental constants of QCD; an introductory discussion of lattice QCD, the only known method for obtaining exact predictions from QCD; methods for approximating QCD, with special focus on effective field theories; QCD under extreme conditions; measurements and predictions of meson and baryon states; a special discussion of the structure of the nucleon; techniques for study of QCD at high energy, including treatment of jets and showers; measurements at colliders; weak decays and quark mixing; and a section on the future, which discusses new experimental facilities or upgrades currently funded. The paper is intended to provide a broad background for Ph.D. students and postdocs starting their career. Some contributions include personal accounts of how the ideas or experiments were developed.

We provide improved Standard Model theory predictions for the exclusive rare semimuonic processes $B\to K^{(*)}μ^+μ^-$ and $B_s\toφμ^+μ^-$. Our results are based on a novel parametrization of the non-local form factors, which manifestly respects a recently developed dispersive bound. We critically compare our predictions to those obtained in the framework of QCD factorization. Our predictions provide, for the first time, parametric estimates of the systematic uncertainties due to non-local contributions. Comparing our predictions within the Standard Model to available experimental data, we find a large tension for $B\to Kμ^+μ^-$. A simple model-independent analysis of potential effects beyond the Standard Model yields results compatible with other approaches, albeit with larger uncertainties for the $B\to K^*μ^+μ^-$ and $B_s\to φμ^+μ^-$ decays. Our approach yields systematically improvable predictions, and we look forward to its application in further analyses beyond the Standard Model.

Its use cases include theory predictions within and beyond the Standard Model of particle physics, Bayesian inference of theory parameters from experimental and theoretical likelihoods, and simulation of pseudo events for a number of signal processes. EOS ensures high-performance computations through a C++ back-end and ease of usability through a Python front-end. To achieve this flexibility, EOS enables the user to select from a variety of implementations of the relevant decay processes and hadronic matrix elements at run time. In this article, we describe the general structure of the software framework and provide basic examples. Further details and in-depth interactive examples are provided as part of the EOS online documentation.

Leptoquarks provide viable solutions to the flavour anomalies, i.e. they can explain the tensions between the measurements and the Standard Model predictions of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon as well as $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ and $b\to cτν$ processes. However, leptoquarks also contribute to other flavour observables, such as $ΔF=2$ processes, at the loop-level. In particular, $B_s-\bar B_s$ mixing provides a crucial bound in setups addressing $b\to cτν$ data, often excluding a big portion of the parameter space that could otherwise account for it. In this article, we first derive the complete leading order matching, including all five scalar LQ representations, for $D^0-\bar D^0$, $K^0-\bar K^0$ and $B_{s,d}-\bar B_{s,d}$ mixing (at the dimension-six level). We then calculate the next-to-leading order $α_s$ matching corrections to these $ΔF=2$ processes in generic scalar leptoquark models. We find that the two-loop corrections increase the effects in $ΔF=2$ processes by $\sim 5$-$10\%$ and significantly reduce the matching scale uncertainty.

We improve upon the current state of these matrix elements in two ways. First, we recalculate the hadronic matrix elements needed at subleading power in the light-cone OPE using $B$-meson light-cone sum rules. Our analytical results supersede those in the literature. We discuss the origin of our improvements and provide numerical results for the processes under consideration. Second, we derive the first dispersive bound on the non-local matrix elements. It provides a parametric handle on the truncation error in extrapolations of the matrix elements to large timelike momentum transfer using the $z$ expansion. We illustrate the power of the dispersive bound at the hand of a simple phenomenological application. As a side result of our work, we also provide numerical results for the $B_s \to φ$ form factors from $B$-meson light-cone sum rules.

Exclusive non-leptonic two-body decays of $B$ mesons have been studied extensively in the past two decades within the framework of factorization. However, the exploration of the corresponding three-body case has only started recently, in part motivated by new data. We consider here the simplest non-leptonic three-body $B$ decays from the point of view of factorization, namely heavy-to-heavy transitions. We provide a careful derivation of the SCET/QCDF factorized amplitudes to NNLO in $α_s$, and discuss the numerical impact of NLO and NNLO corrections. We then study the narrow-width limit, showing that the three-body amplitude reproduces analytically the known quasi-two-body decay amplitudes, and compute finite-width corrections. Finally, we discuss certain observables that are sensitive to perturbative NLO and NNLO corrections and to higher Gegenbauer moments of the dimeson LCDAs. This is the first study of non-leptonic three-body $B$ decays to NNLO in QCD.

Exclusive rare decays mediated by $b\to s\ell\ell$ transitions receive contributions from four-quark operators that cannot be naively expressed in terms of local form factors. Instead, one needs to calculate a matrix element of a bilocal operator. In certain kinematic regions, this bilocal operator obeys some type of Operator Product Expansion, with coefficients that can be calculated in perturbation theory. We review the formalism and, focusing on the dominant SM operators ${\cal O}_{1,2}$, we perform an improved calculation of the NLO matching for the leading dimension-three operators. This calculation is performed completely analytically in the two relevant mass scales (charm-quark mass $m_c$ and dilepton squared mass $q^2$), and we pay particular attention to the analytic continuation in the complex $q^2$ plane. This allows for the first time to study the analytic structure of the non-local form factors at NLO, and to calculate the OPE coefficients far below $q^2=0$, say $q^2 \lesssim -10\,{\rm GeV}^2$. We also provide explicitly the contributions proportional to different charge factors, which obey separate dispersion relations.

We derive a set of light-cone sum rules relating the hadronic form factors relevant for $B\to Kπ\ell^+\ell^-$ decays to the $B$-meson light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs). We obtain the sum rule relations for all $B\to Kπ$ form factors of (axial)vector and (pseudo)tensor $b\to s$ currents with a $P$-wave $Kπ$ system. Our results reduce to the known light-cone sum rules for $B\to K^*$ form factors in the limit of a single narrow-width resonance. We update the operator-product expansion for the underlying correlation function by including a more complete set of $B$-meson LCDAs with higher twists, and produce numerical results for all $B\to K^*$ form factors in the narrow-width limit. We then use the new sum rules to estimate the effect of a non-vanishing $K^*$ width in $B\to K^*$ transitions, and find that this effect is universal and increases the factorizable part of the rate of $B\to K^*X$ decays by a factor of $20\%$. This effect, by itself, goes in the direction of increasing the current tension in the differential $B\to K^*μμ$ branching fractions. We also discuss $B\to Kπ$ transitions outside the $K^*$ window, and explain how measurements of $B\to Kπ\ell\ell$ observables above the $K^*$ region can be used to further constrain the $B\to K^*$ form factors.

We perform a model-independent global fit to $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ observables to confirm existing New Physics (NP) patterns (or scenarios) and to identify new ones emerging from the inclusion of the updated LHCb and Belle measurements of $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$, respectively. Our analysis, updating Refs. [1,2] and including these new data, suggests the presence of right-handed couplings encoded in the Wilson coefficients ${\cal C}_{9'μ}$ and ${\cal C}_{10'μ}$. It also strengthens our earlier observation that a lepton flavour universality violating (LFUV) left-handed lepton coupling (${\cal C}_{9μ}^{\rm V}=-{\cal C}_{10μ}^{\rm V}$), often preferred from the model building point of view, accommodates the data better if lepton-flavour universal (LFU) NP is allowed, in particular in ${\cal C}_{9}^{\rm U}$. Furthermore, this scenario with LFU NP provides a simple and model-independent connection to the $b\to cτν$ anomalies, showing a preference of $\approx 7\,σ$ with respect to the SM. It may also explain why fits to the whole set of $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ data or to the subset of LFUV data exhibit stronger preferences for different NP scenarios. Finally, motivated by $Z^\prime$ models with vector-like quarks, we propose four new scenarios with LFU and LFUV NP contributions that give a very good fit to data. We provide also an addendum collecting our updated results after including the data for the $B\to K^*μμ$ angular distribution released in 2020 by the LHCb collaboration.

The extraction of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix from flavour observables can be affected by physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). We provide a general roadmap to take this into account, which we apply to the case of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). We choose a set of four input observables that determine the four Wolfenstein parameters, and discuss how the effects of dimension-six operators can be included in their definition. We provide numerical values and confidence intervals for the CKM parameters, and compare them with the results of CKM fits obtained in the SM context. Our approach allows one to perform general SMEFT analyses in a consistent fashion, independently of any assumptions about the way new physics affects flavour observables. We discuss a few examples illustrating how our approach can be implemented in practice.

Motivated by the success of the flavour physics programme carried out over the last decade at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), we characterize in detail the physics potential of its High-Luminosity and High-Energy upgrades in this domain of physics. We document the extraordinary breadth of the HL/HE-LHC programme enabled by a putative Upgrade II of the dedicated flavour physics experiment LHCb and the evolution of the established flavour physics role of the ATLAS and CMS general purpose experiments. We connect the dedicated flavour physics programme to studies of the top quark, Higgs boson, and direct high-$p_T$ searches for new particles and force carriers. We discuss the complementarity of their discovery potential for physics beyond the Standard Model, affirming the necessity to fully exploit the LHC's flavour physics potential throughout its upgrade eras.

We present the physics program of the Belle II experiment, located on the intensity frontier SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. Belle II collected its first collisions in 2018, and is expected to operate for the next decade. It is anticipated to collect 50/ab of collision data over its lifetime. This book is the outcome of a joint effort of Belle II collaborators and theorists through the Belle II theory interface platform (B2TiP), an effort that commenced in 2014. The aim of B2TiP was to elucidate the potential impacts of the Belle II program, which includes a wide scope of physics topics: B physics, charm, tau, quarkonium, electroweak precision measurements and dark sector searches. It is composed of nine working groups (WGs), which are coordinated by teams of theorist and experimentalists conveners: Semileptonic and leptonic B decays, Radiative and Electroweak penguins, phi_1 and phi_2 (time-dependent CP violation) measurements, phi_3 measurements, Charmless hadronic B decay, Charm, Quarkonium(like), tau and low-multiplicity processes, new physics and global fit analyses. This book highlights "golden- and silver-channels", i.e. those that would have the highest potential impact in the field. Theorists scrutinised the role of those measurements and estimated the respective theoretical uncertainties, achievable now as well as prospects for the future. Experimentalists investigated the expected improvements with the large dataset expected from Belle II, taking into account improved performance from the upgraded detector.

This sum rule, in the leading twist-2 approximation, is directly related to the pion vector form factor. Employing a relation between $F_t$ and other $B\to ππ$ form factors we obtain also the longitudinal-helicity form factor $F_0$. In this way, all four (axial-)vector $B\to ππ$ form factors are predicted from light-cone sum rules with dipion distribution amplitudes. These results are valid for small dipion masses with large momentum.

While some of the needed non-perturbative objects can be directly extracted from data, some others can, so far, only be modelled. Although this approach is currently model dependent, we comment on the perspectives to reduce this model dependence. While our model naturally accommodates the gross features of the Dalitz distribution, it cannot quantitatively explain the details seen in the current experimental data on local CP asymmetries. We comment on possible refinements of our simple model and conclude by briefly discussing a possible extension of the model to large invariant masses, where large local CP asymmetries have been measured.

We discuss a novel approach to systematically determine the long-distance contribution to $B\to K^*\ell\ell$ decays in the kinematic region where the dilepton invariant mass is below the open charm threshold. This approach provides the most consistent and reliable determination to date and can be used to compute Standard Model predictions for all observables of interest, including the kinematic region where the dilepton invariant mass lies between the $J/ψ$ and the $ψ(2S)$ resonances. We illustrate the power of our results by performing a New Physics fit to the Wilson coefficient $C_9$. This approach is systematically improvable from theoretical and experimental sides, and applies to other decay modes of the type $B\to V\ell\ell$, $B\to P\ell\ell$ and $B\to Vγ$.

We study the implications of the recent measurements of $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ by the LHCb collaboration. We do that by adopting a model-independent approach based on the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT), in which the dominant new physics effects are encoded in the coefficients of dimension-six operators respecting the full Standard Model (SM) gauge symmetry. After providing simplified expressions for $R_K$ and $R_{K^\ast}$, we determine the implications of the recent LHCb results for these observables on the coefficients of the SMEFT operators at low and high energies. We also take into account all $b\to s \ell\ell$ data, which combined lead to effective New Physics (NP) scenarios with SM pulls in excess of 5~$σ$. Thus the operators discussed in this paper would be the first dimension-six terms in the SM Lagrangian to be detected experimentally. Indirect constraints on these operators are also discussed. The results of this paper transcend the singularity of the present situation, and set a standard for future analyses in $b\to s$ transitions when the NP is assumed to lie above the electroweak scale.

In the Standard Model (SM), the rare transitions where a bottom quark decays into a strange quark and a pair of light leptons exhibit a potential sensitivity to physics beyond the SM. In addition, the SM embeds Lepton Flavour Universality (LFU), leading to almost identical probabilities for muon and electron modes. The LHCb collaboration discovered a set of deviations from the SM expectations in decays to muons and also in ratios assessing LFU. Other experiments (Belle, ATLAS, CMS) found consistent measurements, albeit with large error bars. We perform a global fit to all available $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ data ($\ell=e,μ$) in a model-independent way allowing for different patterns of New Physics. For the first time, the NP hypothesis is preferred over the SM by $5\,σ$ in a general case when NP can enter SM-like operators and their chirally-flipped partners. LFU violation is favoured with respect to LFU at the 3-4$\,σ$ level. We discuss the impact of LFU-violating New Physics on the observable $P_5^\prime$ from $B \to K^*μ^+μ^-$ and we compare our estimate for long-distance charm contributions with an empirical model recently proposed by a group of LHCb experimentalists. Finally, we discuss NP models able to describe this consistent pattern of deviations.

These form factors describe the semileptonic decay $B\to ππ\ell\barν_{\ell}$, and constitute an essential input in $B\to ππ\ell^+\ell^-$ and $B\to πππ$ decays. We employ the correlation functions where a dipion isospin-one state is interpolated by the vector light-quark current. We obtain sum rules where convolutions of the $P$-wave $\bar{B}^0\to π^+π^0$ form factors with the time-like pion vector form factor are related to universal $B$-meson distribution amplitudes. These sum rules are valid in the kinematic regime where the dipion state has a large energy and a low invariant mass, and reproduce analytically the known light-cone sum rules for $B\to ρ$ form factors in the limit of $ρ$-dominance with zero width, thus providing a systematics for so-far-unaccounted corrections to $B\toρ$ transitions. Using data for the pion vector form factor, we estimate finite width-effects and the contribution of excited $ρ$-resonances to the $B\toππ$ form factors. We find that these contributions amount up to $\sim 20\%$ in the small dipion mass region where they can be effectively regarded as a nonresonant ($P$-wave) background to the $B\toρ$ transition.

The model consists of an extended gauge group $\mathrm{SU(2)}_{1} \times \mathrm{SU(2)}_{2} \times \mathrm{U(1)}_Y$ which breaks spontaneously around the TeV scale to the electroweak gauge group. Fermion mixing effects with vector-like fermions give rise to potentially large new physics contributions in flavour transitions mediated by $W^{\prime}$ and $Z^{\prime}$ bosons. This model can ease tensions in $B$-physics data while satisfying stringent bounds from flavour physics, tau decays, and electroweak precision data. Possible ways to test the proposed new physics scenario with upcoming experimental measurements are discussed. Among other predictions, the lepton flavour violating ratios $R_M$, with $M = K^*, φ$, are found to be reduced with respect to the Standard Model expectation $R_M \simeq 1$.

In this proceeding, we summarize the most important results of our global analysis of the relevant decay modes. After a discussion of the hadronic uncertainties entering the theoretical predictions, we present an interpretation of the data in terms of generic new physics scenarios. To this end, we have performed model-independent fits of the corresponding Wilson coefficients to the data and have found that in certain scenarios the best fit point is prefererred over the Standard Model by a global significance of more than 4σ. Based on the results, the discrimination between high-scale new physics and low-energy QCD effects as well as the possibility of lepton-flavour universality violation are discussed.

We classify the possible models according to the symmetry-breaking pattern and the source of flavor non-universality. We find that in viable models the $\mathrm{SU(2)}_L$ factor is embedded non-trivially in the extended gauge group, and that gauge couplings should be universal, hinting to the presence of new degrees of freedom sourcing non-universality. The impact of this data and other recent measurements on $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ transitions ($\ell=e,μ$) is considered. We review the observables of interest, focusing on their theoretical uncertainties and their sensitivity to New Physics, based on an analysis employing the QCD factorisation approach including several sources of hadronic uncertainties (form factors, power corrections, charm-loop effects). We perform fits to New Physics contributions including experimental and theoretical correlations. The solution that we proposed in 2013 to solve the $B\to K^*μ^+μ^-$ anomaly, with a contribution ${\mathcal C}_9^{\rm NP}\simeq -1$, is confirmed and reinforced. A wider range of New-Physics scenarios with high significances (between 4 and 5 $σ$) emerges from the fit, some of them being particularly relevant for model building. More data is needed to discriminate among them conclusively. The inclusion of $b\to s e^+ e^-$ observables increases the significance of the favoured scenarios under the hypothesis of New Physics breaking lepton flavour universality. Several tests illustrate the robustness of our conclusions.

We extend the framework of QCD factorization to non-leptonic $B$ decays into three light mesons, taking as an example the decay $B^+ \to π^+ π^+ π^-$. We discuss the factorization properties of this decay in different regions of phase space. We argue that, in the limit of very large $b$-quark mass, the central region of the Dalitz plot can be described in terms of the $B \to π$ form factor and the $B$ and $π$ light-cone distribution amplitudes. The edges of the Dalitz plot, on the other hand, require different non-perturbative input: the $B \to ππ$ form factor and the two-pion distribution amplitude. We present the set-up for both regions to leading order in both $α_s$ and $Λ_{\rm QCD} / m_b$ and discuss how well the two descriptions merge. We argue that for realistic $B$-meson masses there is no perturbative center in the Dalitz plot, but that a systematic description might be possible in the context of two-pion states. As an example, we estimate the $B\toρπ$ branching fraction beyond the quasi-particle approximation. We also discuss the prospects for studies of three-body and quasi-two-body non-leptonic $B$ decays from QCD.

In the derivation of such constraints, accurate standard model predictions for the inclusive branching ratios play a crucial role. In the current Letter we present an update of these predictions, incorporating all our results for the O(alpha_s^2) and lower-order perturbative corrections that have been calculated after 2006. New estimates of nonperturbative effects are taken into account, too. For the CP- and isospin-averaged branching ratios, we find B_{s gamma} = (3.36 +_ 0.23) * 10^-4 and B_{d gamma} = 1.73^{+0.12}_{-0.22} * 10^-5, for E_gamma > 1.6GeV. Both results remain in agreement with the current experimental averages. Normalizing their sum to the inclusive semileptonic branching ratio, we obtain R_gamma = ( B_{s gamma} + B_{d gamma})/B_{c l nu} = (3.31 +_ 0.22) * 10^-3. A new bound from B_{s gamma} on the charged Higgs boson mass in the two-Higgs-doublet-model II reads M_{H^+} > 480 GeV at 95%C.L.

We discuss the theory and phenomenology of $B_{d,s}\to V(\to M_1M_2)\ell\ell$ decays in the presence of neutral-meson mixing. We derive expressions for the time-dependent angular distributions for decays into CP eigenstates, and identify the relevant observables that can be extracted from time-integrated and time-dependent analyses with or without tagging, with a focus on the difference between measurements at $B$-factories and hadronic machines. We construct two observables of interest, which we call $Q_8^-$ and $Q_9$, and which are theoretically clean at large recoil. We compute these two observables in the Standard Model, and show that they have good potential for New Physics searches by considering their sensitivity to benchmark New Physics scenarios consistent with current $b\to s\ell\ell$ data. These results apply to decays such as $B_d\to K^*(\to K_Sπ^0)\ell\ell$, $B_s\to φ(\to K_SK_L)\ell\ell$ and $B_s\to φ(\to K^+K^-)\ell\ell$.

Ongoing efforts to reduce the perturbative uncertainty in the B -> Xs gamma decay rate have resulted in a theory estimate to NNLO in QCD. However, a few contributions from multi-parton final states which are formally NLO are still unknown. These are parametrically small and included in the estimated error from higher order corrections, but must be computed if one is to claim complete knowledge of the B -> Xs gamma rate to NLO. A major part of these unknown pieces are four-body contributions corresponding to the partonic process b -> s qbar q gamma. We compute these NLO four-body contributions to B -> Xs gamma, and confirm the corresponding tree-level leading-order results. While the NLO contributions arise from tree-level and one-loop Feynman diagrams, the four-body phase-space integrations make the computation non-trivial. The decay rate contains collinear logarithms arising from the mass regularization of collinear divergences. We perform an exhaustive numerical analysis, and find that these contributions are positive and amount to no more than 1% of the total rate in the Standard Model, thus confirming previous estimates of the perturbative uncertainty.

In order to give precise theory predictions, it is crucial that uncertainties from non-perturbative QCD are under control and properly included. The dominant QCD uncertainties originate from the hadronic B --> K^* form factors and from charm loops. We present a systematic method to include factorisable power corrections to the form factors in the framework of QCD factorisation and study the impact of the scheme chosen to define the soft form factors. We also discuss charm-loop effects.

The recent LHCb angular analysis of the exclusive decay B->K^*mu+mu- has indicated significant deviations from the Standard Model expectations. Accurate predictions can be achieved at large K*-meson recoil for an optimised set of observables designed to have no sensitivity to hadronic input in the heavy-quark limit at leading order in alpha_s. However, hadronic uncertainties reappear through non-perturbative Lambda_QCD/m_b power corrections, which must be assessed precisely. In the framework of QCD factorisation we present a systematic method to include factorisable power corrections and point out that their impact on angular observables depends on the scheme chosen to define the soft form factors. Associated uncertainties are found to be under control, contrary to earlier claims in the literature. We also discuss the impact of possible non-factorisable power corrections, including an estimate of charm-loop effects. We provide results for angular observables at large recoil for two different sets of inputs for the form factors, spelling out the different sources of theoretical uncertainties. Finally, we comment on a recent proposal to explain the anomaly in B->K*mu+mu- observables through charm-resonance effects, and we propose strategies to test this proposal identifying observables and kinematic regions where either the charm-loop model can be disentangled from New Physics effects or the two options leave different imprints.

We provide a detailed analysis of the impact of the newly measured optimised observables in the B -> K* mu+ mu- decay by the LHCb experiment. The analysis is performed in the MSSM, both in the context of the usual constrained scenarios, and in the context of a more general set-up where the SUSY partner masses are independent. We show that the global agreement of the MSSM solutions with the data is still very good. Nevertheless, especially in the constrained scenarios, the limits from B -> K* mu+ mu- are now very strong, and are at the same level as the well-known b -> s gamma constraints. We describe the implications of the B -> K* mu+ mu- measurements both on the Wilson coefficients and on the SUSY parameters.

We discuss the impact of recent LHCb data on the B -> K* mu+mu- decay for New Physics searches. We use an optimised set of observables with a limited sensitivity to hadronic inputs (form factors), leading to a significant deviation from the Standard Model for the semileptonic operator O9. We ascertain the robustness of our results with respect to models of power corrections, charm-loop effects, factorisation approaches, possible effects from resonance tails at low-recoil, choice of observables and binnings. We explain some contradictory results obtained for the chirality-flipped operator O9prime by different analyses by focusing on the sensitivity of observables at low recoil afflicted by the psi(4160) and possibly other resonances for B+-> K+ mu+mu- and illustrating the need for a finely binned analysis at large recoil (rather than a wide [1-6] bin). Finally, we present updated results including experimental correlations in B -> K* mu+ mu- observables, confirming the deviation seen with respect to the SM hypothesis (4.2 sigma for large-recoil data, 3.5 sigma for large- and low-recoil data).

We present a global analysis of the B->K*(->K pi)mu+mu- decay using the recent LHCb measurements of the primary observables P_{1,2} and P'_{4,5,6,8}. Some of them exhibit large deviations with respect to the SM predictions. We explain the observed pattern of deviations through a large New Physics contribution to the Wilson coefficient of the semileptonic operator O9. This contribution has an opposite sign to the SM one, i.e., reduces the size of this coefficient significantly. A good description of data is achieved by allowing for New Physics contributions to the Wilson coefficients C7 and C9 only. We find a 4.5 sigma deviation with respect to the SM prediction, combining the large-recoil B->K*(->K pi)mu+mu- observables with other radiative processes. Once low-recoil observables are included the significance gets reduced to 3.9 sigma. We have tested different sources of systematics, none of them modifying our conclusions significantly. Finally, we propose additional ways of measuring the primary observables through new foldings.

We identify an optimal basis of observables that balances theoretical and experimental advantages, which will guide the New Physics searches in the short term. We discuss some advantages of the observables in the basis, and in particular their improved sensitivity to New Physics compared to other observables. We present predictions within the Standard Model for the observables of interest, integrated over the appropriate bins including lepton mass corrections. Finally, we present bounds on the S-wave contribution to the distribution coming from the B->K_0*ll decay, which will help to establish the systematic error associated to this pollution.

Abstract:
B -> K*ll angular observables have become a key ingredient in global model-independent analyses of b->s transitions. However, as experimental precision improves, the use of theoretically clean quantities becomes a crucial issue. Global analyses that use clean observables integrated in small bins are already a reality, opening up a new chapter in our quest for New Physics.
