Thioethyl-porphyrazine/Nanocarbon Hybrids for Photoinduced Electron Transfer
Abstract: We designed a novel pyrene-substituted thioethyl-porphyrazine (PzPy) and the formation of supramolecular assembly with nanocarbons demonstrating photoinduced electron transfer ability. As revealed by spectroscopic and electrochemical studies, PzPy displays wide spectral absorption in the visible range, charge separation upon photoexcitation, as well as bandgap and highest occupied/lowest unoccupie… ▽ More

Lyapunov functionals for boundary-driven nonlinear drift-diffusions
Abstract: We exhibit a large class of Lyapunov functionals for nonlinear drift-diffusion equations with non-homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. These are generalizations of large deviation functionals for underlying stochastic many-particle systems, the zero range process and the Ginzburg-Landau dynamics, which we describe briefly. As an application, we prove linear inequalities between such an entro… ▽ More

A curved Brunn--Minkowski inequality on the discrete hypercube
Abstract: We compare two approaches to Ricci curvature on non-smooth spaces, in the case of the discrete hypercube $\{0,1\}^N$. While the coarse Ricci curvature of the first author readily yields a positive value for curvature, the displacement convexity property of Lott, Sturm and the second author could not be fully implemented. Yet along the way we get new results of a combinatorial and probabilistic nat… ▽ More

Spectral methods for the non cut-off Boltzmann equation and numerical grazing collision limit
Abstract: In this paper we study the numerical passage from the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation without cut-off to the Fokker-Planck-Landau equation in the so-called grazing collision limit. To this aim we derive a Fourier spectral method for the non cut-off Boltzmann equation in the spirit of L. Pareschi, B.Perthame, TTSP 25, (1996) and L.Pareschi, G.Russo, SINUM 37, (2000). Celebrating Cercignani's conjecture for the Boltzmann equation
Abstract: Cercignani's conjecture assumes a linear inequality between the entropy and entropy production functionals for Boltzmann's nonlinear integral operator in rarefied gas dynamics. Related to the field of logarithmic Sobolev inequalities and spectral gap inequalities, this issue has been at the core of the renewal of the mathematical theory of convergence to thermodynamical equilibrium for rarefied ga… ▽ More

On Landau dam**
Abstract: Going beyond the linearized study has been a longstanding problem in the theory of Landau dam**. In this paper we establish exponential Landau dam** in analytic regularity. The dam** phenomenon is reinterpreted in terms of transfer of regularity between kinetic and spatial variables, rather than exchanges of energy; phase mixing is the driving mechanism. The analysis involves new families… ▽ More

Entropy and chaos in the Kac model
Abstract: We investigate the behavior in $N$ of the $N$--particle entropy functional for Kac's stochastic model of Boltzmann dynamics, and its relation to the entropy function for solutions of Kac's one dimensional nonlinear model Boltzmann equation. Local Aronson-Bénilan estimates and entropy formulae for porous medium and fast diffusion equations on manifolds
Abstract: In this work we derive local gradient and Laplacian estimates of the Aronson-Bénilan and Li-Yau type for positive solutions of porous medium equations posed on Riemannian manifolds with a lower Ricci curvature bound. We also prove similar results for some fast diffusion equations. Inspired by Perelman's work we discover some new entropy formulae for these equations.

Upper Maxwellian bounds for the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation
Abstract: For the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation with cutoff hard potentials it is shown that solutions remain bounded from above, uniformly in time, by a Maxwellian distribution, provided the initial data have a Maxwellian upper bound. The main technique is based on a comparison principle that uses a certain dissipative property of the linear Boltzmann equation. Implications of the technique to… ▽ More

The Hamilton-Jacobi semigroup on length spaces and applications
Abstract: We define a Hamilton-Jacobi semigroup acting on continuous functions on a compact length space. Following a strategy of Bobkov, Gentil and Ledoux, we use some basic properties of the semigroup to study geometric inequalities related to concentration of measure. Our main results are that (1) a Talagrand inequality on a measured length space implies a global Poincare inequality and (2) if the spac… ▽ More

Weak curvature conditions and functional inequalities
Abstract: We give sufficient conditions for a measured length space (X,d,m) to admit local and global Poincare inequalities. We first introduce a condition DM on (X,d,m), defined in terms of transport of measures. We show that DM, along with a doubling condition on m, implies a scale-invariant local Poincare inequality. Strong charge transfer effects in the Mg2p^{-1} core-level spectrum of MgB_2
