On the geometry of spatial biphoton correlation in spontaneous parametric down-conversion
Abstract: Analytical expressions are derived for the distribution rates of spatial coincidences in the counting of photons produced by spontaneous parametric down conversion (SPDC). Gaussian profiles are assumed for the wave function of the idler and signal light created in type-I SPDC. The distribution rates describe ellipses on the detection planes that are oriented at different angles according to the ph… ▽ More

Microscopic study of neutron-rich Dysprosium isotopes
Abstract: Microscopic studies in heavy nuclei are very scarce due to large valence spaces involved. This computational problem can be avoided by means of the use of symmetry based models. Ground-state, gamma and beta-bands, and their B(E2) transition strengths in 160-168Dy isotopes, are studied in the framework of the pseudo-SU(3) model which includes the preserving symmetry Q.Q term and the symmetry-breaki… ▽ More

Charge-independent trend of isoscalar matrix elements along the $N \sim Z$ line
Abstract: Shell model calculations have been carried out using the m-scheme numerical code {\small ANTOINE} in order to elucidate the particular trend of the isoscalar matrix elements, $M_0$, for $A=4n+2$ isobaric triplets ranging from A=18 to A=42. The 2${_1^+}_{(T=1)}$ $\to$ 0${_1^+}_{(T=1)}$ transition energies, reduced transition probabilities and isoscalar matrix elements are predicted to a high degr… ▽ More

Ground state energy fluctuations in the Nuclear Shell Model
Abstract: Statistical fluctuations of the nuclear ground state energies are estimated using shell model calculations in which particles in the valence shells interact through well defined forces, and are coupled to an upper shell governed by random 2-body interactions. Induced ground-state energy fluctuations are found to be one order of magnitude smaller than those previously associated with chaotic comp… ▽ More

Bounds on the presence of quantum chaos in nuclear masses
Abstract: Differences between measured nuclear masses and those calculated using the Finite Range Droplet Model are analyzed. It is shown that they have a well defined, clearly correlated oscillatory component as a function of the proton and neutron numbers. At the same time, they exhibit in their power spectrum the presence of chaos. Comparison with other mass calculations strongly suggest that this chao… ▽ More

Quantum chaos and nuclear mass systematics
Abstract: The presence of quantum chaos in nuclear mass systematics is analyzed by considering the differences between measured and calculated nuclear masses as a time series described by the power law 1/ f^alpha. While for the liquid droplet model plus shell corrections a quantum chaotic behavior alpha approx 1 is found, errors in the microscopic mass formula have alpha approx 0.5, closer to white noise.… ▽ More

Residual correlations in liquid drop mass calculations
Abstract: A systematic study of correlations in the chart of calculated masses of Moller and Nix is presented. It is shown that the differences between the masses calculated by Moller at al and the measured ones have a well defined oscillatory component as function of N and Z, which can be removed with an appropriate fit, reducing significantly the error width, and concentrating the error distribution on… ▽ More

A study of randomness, correlations and collectivity in the nuclear shell model
Abstract: A variable combination of realistic and random two-body interactions allows the study of collective properties, such as the energy spectra and B(E2) transition strengths in 44Ti, 48Cr and 24Mg. It is found that the average energies of the yrast band states maintain the ordering for any degree of randomness, but the B(E2) values lose their quadrupole collectivity when randomness dominates the Ham… ▽ More

Spectroscopy with random and displaced random ensembles
Abstract: Due to the time reversal invariance of the angular momentum operator J^2, the average energies and variances at fixed J for random two-body Hamiltonians exhibit odd-even-J staggering, that may be especially strong for J=0. It is shown that upon ensemble averaging over random runs, this behaviour is reflected in the yrast states. Displaced (attractive) random ensembles lead to rotational spectra… ▽ More

Band Crossing and Signature Splitting in Odd Mass fp Shell Nuclei
Abstract: Structure of two sets of mirror nuclei: 47V - 47Cr and 49Cr - 49Mn, as well as 49V and 51Mn, is studied using the projected shell model. Their yrast spectra are described as an interplay between the angular momentum projected states around the Fermi level which carry different intrinsic K-quantum numbers. The deviations from a regular rotational sequence are attributed to band crossing and signa… ▽ More

Multi-Phonon $γ$-Vibrational Bands and the Triaxial Projected Shell Model
Abstract: We present a fully quantum-mechanical, microscopic, unified treatment of ground-state band and multi-phonon $γ$-vibrational bands using shell model diagonalization with the triaxial projected shell model. The results agree very well with data on the g- and $γ$-band spectra in $^{156-170}$Er, as well as with recently measured $4^+$ 2-phonon $γ$-bandhead energies in $^{166}$Er and $^{168}$Er. Backbending in Dy isotopes within the Projected Shell Model
Abstract: A systematic study of the yrast band in 154-164 Dy isotopes using the Projected Shell Model is presented. It is shown that, in the context of the present model, enlarging the mean field deformation by about 20 % allows a very good description of the spectrum of yrast band in these isotopes. The dependence of the B(E2) values on angular momentum is also better described when larger deformations a… ▽ More

Self-consistency in the Projected Shell Model
Abstract: The Projected Shell Model is a shell model theory built up over a deformed BCS mean field. Ground state and excited bands in even-even nuclei are obtained through diagonalization of a pairing plus quadrupole Hamiltonian in an angular momentum projected 0-, 2-, and 4-quasiparticle basis. The residual quadrupole-quadrupole interaction strength is fixed self-consistently with the deformed mean fiel… ▽ More
