For that, we consider narrow optical emission line intensities and direct estimates of the electron temperatures ($T_{\rm e}$-method). We find nitrogen abundances in the range $7.6 \: < \: \rm 12+log(N/H) \: < \: 8.6$ (mean value $8.06\pm0.22$) or $\rm 0.4 \: < \: (N/N_{\odot}) \: < 4.7$, in the metallicity regime $8.3 \: < \: \rm 12+log(O/H) \: < \: 9.0$. Our results indicate that the dispersion in N/H abundance for a fixed O/H value in AGNs is in agreement with that for disc \ion{H}{ii} regions with similar metallicity. We show that Seyfert~2 nuclei follow a similar (N/O)-(O/H) relation to the one followed by star-forming objects. Finally, we find that active galaxies called as 'nitrogen-loud' observed at very high redshift ($z \: > \: 5$) show N/O values in consonance with those derived for local NLRs. This result indicates that the main star-formation event is completed in the early evolution stages of active galaxies.

We investigate several panchromatic scaling relations (SRs) for the dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 1569 using IFU data from the Metal-THINGS Survey. Among the spatially resolved properties analyzed, we explore SRs between the stellar mass, SFR, molecular gas, total gas, baryonic mass, gas metallicity, gas fraction, SFE and effective oxygen yields. Such multiwavelength SRs are analyzed at a spatial resolution of 180 pc, by combining our IFU observations with data from the surveys THINGS, CARMA, and archival data from DustPedia. Although we recover several known relations, our slopes are different to previously reported ones. Our star formation main sequence, Kennicutt-Schmidt (KS) and molecular KS relations show higher SFRs, lower scatter, and higher correlations, with steeper (1.21), and flatter slopes (0.96, 0.58) respectively. The shape of the SRs including metallicity, stellar mass, and gas fraction are flat, with an average value of 12+log(O/H) $\sim$ 8.12 dex. The baryonic mass vs effective oxygen yields, and the stellar, gas and baryonic mass vs SFE show higher dispersions and lower correlations. Since we use the dust mass as a tracer of gas mass, we derive the Dust-to-Gas Ratio and the CO luminosity-to-molecular gas mass conversion factors, showing differences of 0.16 and 0.95 dex for the total and molecular gas surface density, respectively, in comparison to previously reported values. We use a self regulated feedback model to conclude that stellar feedback plays an important role generating outflows in NGC 1569.

We report the detection of a rich spectrum of more than one hundred optical emission lines of vibrationally hot molecular hydrogen (H2) from the photodissociation region (PDR) around the mini-starburst cluster NGC 346 in the Small Magellanic Cloud. The lines are concentrated in the spectral range 6000 to 9300 Angstrom and have observed brightnesses ranging from 0.01% to 0.4% times that of the H beta lambda 4861 hydrogen recombination line. Analysis of the spatial distribution of the H2 lines shows that they originate from a range of depths in the PDR, intermediate between the shallow layers probed by known fluorescent lines of neutral nitrogen and oxygen, and the more shielded layers probed by neutral carbon recombination lines. Comparison with other PDRs shows that the relative strength of the H2 lines with respect to the [C I] lambda 8727 line increases rapidly with decreasing metallicity, being at least 40 times larger in NGC 346 than in the prototypical PDR of the Orion Bar. The internal PDR dust extinction is also found to be anomalously low in NGC 346. A separate result is the discovery of a high-ionization bow shock around the O2 star Walborn 3.

Narrow emission line intensities from the SDSS DR17 [in the wavelength range 3000 < $λ$ < 9100] and from the literature for a sample of 45 nearby ($z$ < 0.08) Sy 2s were considered. Our direct estimates indicate that Sy 2s have similar temperatures in the gas region where most of the S+ ions are located in comparison with that of star-forming regions (SFs). However, Sy 2s present higher temperature values ($\sim$10000 K) in the region where most of the S++ ions are located relative to that of SFs. We derive the total sulphur abundance in the range of 6.2 < 12 + log(S/H) < 7.5, corresponding to 0.1-1.8 times the solar value. These sulphur abundance values are lower by $\sim$0.4 dex than those derived in SFs with similar metallicity, indicating a distinct chemical enrichment of the ISM for these object classes. The S/O values for our Sy 2 sample present an abrupt ($\sim$0.5 dex) decrease with increasing O/H for the high metallicity regime [12 + log(O/H) > 8.7)], what is not seen for the SFs. However, when our Sy 2 estimates are combined with those from a large sample of star-forming regions, we did not find any dependence between S/O and O/H.

We used fluxes of the optical narrow emission line intensities [$3\,500<λ($Å$)<7\,000$] of 561 Seyfert nuclei in the local universe ($z\lesssim0.31$) from the second catalog and data release (DR2) of the BAT AGN Spectroscopic Survey, which focuses on the \textit{Swift}-BAT hard X-ray ($\gtrsim10$ keV) detected AGNs. We derived O/H from relative intensities of the emission lines via the strong-line methods. We find that the AGN O/H abundances are related to their hosts stellar masses and that they follow a downward redshift evolution. The derived O/H together with the hard X-ray luminosity ($L_{\rm X}$) were used to study the X-ray luminosity-metallicity ($L_{\rm X}$-$Z_{\rm NLR}$) relation for the first time in Seyfert galaxies. In contrast to the broad-line focused ($L_{\rm X}$-$Z_{\rm BLR}$) studies, we find that the $L_{\rm X}$-$Z_{\rm NLR}$ exhibit significant anti-correlations with the Eddington ratio ($λ_{\rm Edd}$) and these correlations vary with redshifts. This result indicates that the low-luminous AGNs are more actively undergoing Interstellar Medium (ISM) enrichment through star formation in comparison with the more luminous X-ray sources. Our results suggest that the AGN is somehow driving the galaxy chemical enrichment, as a result of the inflow of pristine gas that is diluting the metal rich gas, together with a recent cessation on the circumnuclear star-formation.

NGC~6946, also known as the `Fireworks' galaxy, is an unusual galaxy that hosts a total of 225 supernova remnant (SNR) candidates, including 147 optically identified with high [SII]/Ha line ratios. In addition, this galaxy shows prominent HI holes, which were analyzed in previous studies. Indeed, the connection between SNRs and HI holes together with their physical implications in the surrounding gas is worth of attention. This paper explores the connection between the SNRs and the HI holes, including an analysis of their physical link to observational optical properties inside and around the rims of the holes, using new integral field unit (IFU) data from the Metal-THINGS survey. We present an analysis combining previously identified HI holes, SNRs candidates, and new integral field unit (IFU) data from Metal-THINGS of the spiral galaxy NGC 6946. We analyze the distributions of the oxygen abundance, star formation rate surface density, extinction, ionization, diffuse ionized gas, and the Baldwin-Phillips-Terlevich classification throughout the galaxy. By analyzing in detail the optical properties of the 121 previously identify HI holes in NGC 6946, we find that the SNRs are concentrated at the rims of the HI holes. Furthermore, our IFU data shows that the star formation rate and extinction are enhanced at the rims of the holes. To a lesser degree, the oxygen abundance and ionization parameter show hints of enhancement on the rims of the holes.
Altogether, this provides evidence of induced star formation taking place at the rims of the holes, whose origin can be explained by the expansion of superbubbles created by multiple supernova explosions in large stellar clusters dozens of Myr ago.

In view of this, optical emission line intensities [$3000 \: < λ\: < \: 7000$] of 65 local Seyfert 2 nuclei ($z \: < \: 0.2$), taken from Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 15 and additional compilation from the literature, were considered. We used photoionization model grid to derive an Ionization Correction Factor (ICF) for the neutral helium. The application of this ICF indicates that the NLRs of Seyfert 2 present a neutral helium fraction of $\sim$50 per cent in relation to the total helium abundance. We find that Seyfert 2 nuclei present helium abundance ranging from 0.60 to 2.50 times the solar value, while $\sim$85 per cent of the sample present over-solar abundance values. The derived (He/H)-(O/H) abundance relation from the Seyfert 2 is stepper than that of star-forming regions (SFs) and this difference could be due to excess of helium injected into the Interstellar Medium by the winds of Wolf Rayet stars. From a regression to zero metallicity, by using Seyfert 2 estimates combined with SFs estimates, we obtained a primordial helium mass fraction $Y_{\rm p}$=0.2441$\pm$0.0037, a value in good agreement with the one inferred from the temperature fluctuations of the cosmic microwave background by the Planck Collaboration, i.e. $Y_{\rm p}$=0.2471$\pm$0.0003

We have studied a sample of 101 bright 2MASS galaxies from the Large Galaxy Atlas (LGA), whose morphologies span from early to late-types. We have generated estimates for structural parameters through a two-dimensional (2D) surface brightness photometric decomposition in the three 2MASS bands (J, H, Ks). This work represents a detailed multi-component photometric study of nearby galaxies. We report total magnitudes, effective radii, concentration indices, among other parameters, in the three 2MASS bands. We found that the integrated total magnitudes of early-type galaxies (ETGs) measured on 2MASS LGA mosaics are ~0.35 mag dimmer, when compared with images generated from IRSA image tiles service; nevertheless, when comparing late-type galaxies (LTGs) we did not find any difference. Therefore, for ETGs we present the results derived on IRSA image tiles, while for LTGs we used data from the LGA mosaics. Additionally, by combining these structural parameters with scaling relations and kinematic data, we separated classical bulges from pseudobulges. We found that ~40 % of the objects in our sample are classified as pseudobulges, which are found preferentially in LTGs. Also, our findings confirm trends reported earlier in the distributions for some physical parameters, such as Sérsic index, B/T and q ratios. In general, our results are in agreement with previous one-dimensional studies. In a companion paper, we revise some of the scaling relations among global galaxy properties, as well as their interrelation with Supermassive Black Holes.

In order to estimate the stellar properties, \cosha{} implements a Gradient Tree Boosting algorithm to label each star across the parameter space ($T_\mathrm{eff}$, $\log{g}$, $[\mathrm{Fe}/\mathrm{H}]$, and $[α/\mathrm{Fe}]$). We use \cosha{} to estimate these stellar atmospheric parameters of $22\,$k unique stars in the MaNGA Stellar Library (MaStar). To quantify the reliability of our approach, we run both internal tests using the Göttingen Stellar Library (GSL, a theoretical library) and the first data release of MaStar, and external tests by comparing the resulting distributions in the parameter space with the APOGEE estimates of the same properties. In summary, our parameter estimates span in the ranges: $T_\mathrm{eff}=[2900,12000]\,$K, $\log{g}=[-0.5,5.6]$, $[\mathrm{Fe}/\mathrm{H}]=[-3.74,0.81]$, $[α/\mathrm{Fe}]=[-0.22,1.17]$. {We report internal (external) uncertainties of the properties of $σ_{T_\mathrm{eff}}\sim43\,(240)\,$K, $σ_{\log{g}}\sim0.2\,(0.4)$, $σ_{[\mathrm{Fe}/\mathrm{H}]}\sim0.16\,(0.24)$, $σ_{[α/\mathrm{Fe}]}\sim0.09\,(0.08)$.} These uncertainties are comparable to those of other methods with similar objectives. Despite the fact that \cosha{} is not aware of the spatial distribution of these physical properties in the Milky Way, we are able to recover the main trends known in the literature. The catalog of physical properties for MaStar can be accessed in \url{http://ifs.astroscu.unam.mx/MaStar}.

Helium is the second most common chemical species in the Universe. The study of helium abundance has the potential to unravel the chemical evolution of and within galaxies. In this study, we provide an empirical calibration for the singly ionized helium abundance: $12+\log_{10}({\rm He}^+/{\rm H}^+)$, based on the emission line flux ratio He$_{\lambda5876}$/H$α$ from Galactic and extragalactic HII regions compiled from the literature. Based on this calibrator, we explore for the first time the helium abundance in a large sample of HII regions located in galaxies representative of the nearby Universe from the CALIFA survey. Furthermore, this calibrator allows us to explore the variations of the helium abundance with respect to the oxygen abundance. The observed trends are in agreement with a change in the chemical enrichment with mass/oxygen abundance similar to the one observed due to the inside-out model in a MW-galaxy (highlighting the connection between resolved and global trends in galaxies). Our calibrator provides an empirical proxy to estimate the helium abundance at kpc scales as well as to constrain chemical evolutionary models.

We revise the Galactocentric distances of the objects considering {\it Gaia} DR2 parallaxes and determine the physical conditions and the ionic abundance of He$^{+}$ in a homogeneous way, using between 3 and 10 $\text{He}\thinspace \text{I}$ recombination lines in each object. We estimate the total He abundance of the nebulae and its radial abundance gradient using four different ICF(He) schemes. The slope of the gradient is always negative and weakly dependent on the ICF(He) scheme, especially when only the objects with log($η$) $<$ 0.9 are considered. The slope values go from $-$0.0078 to $-$0.0044 dex kpc$^{-1}$, consistent with the predictions of chemical evolution models of the Milky Way and chemodynamical simulations of disc galaxies. Finally, we estimate the abundance deviations of He, O and N in a sample of ring nebulae around Galactic WR stars, finding a quite similar He overabundance of about +0.24 $\pm$ 0.11 dex in three stellar ejecta ring nebulae.

Low-metallicity HII regions have been used to estimate it since their statistical uncertainties are relatively small. We present a new determination of the primordial helium abundance, based on long slit spectra of the HII region NGC 346 in the small Magellanic cloud. We obtained spectra using three $409'' \times 0.51''$ slits divided in 97 subsets. They cover the range $λ\lambda3600-7400$ of the electromagnetic spectrum. In the present article we imaged in NIR a selected sample of galaxies through- out the massive cluster Abell 85 (z = 0.055). We obtained (JHK) photometry for 68 objects, reaching 1 mag/arcsec^2 deeper than 2MASS. We use these images to unveil asymmetries in the outskirts of a sample of bright galaxies and develop a new asymmetry index, alpha_An, which allows to quantify the degree of disruption by the relative area occupied by the tidal features on the plane of the sky. We measure the asymmetries for a subsample of 41 large area objects finding clear asymmetries in ten galaxies, most of them being in groups and pairs projected at different clustercentric distances, some of them located beyond R500 . Combining information on the Hi-gas content of blue galaxies and the distribution of sub-structures across Abell 85, with the present NIR asymmetry analysis, we obtain a very powerful tool to confirm that tidal mechanisms are indeed present and are currently affecting a fraction of galaxies in Abell 85. However, when comparing our deep NIR images with UV-blue images of two very disrupted (jellyfish) galaxies in this cluster, we discard the presence of tidal 1 interactions down to our detection limit. Our results suggest that ram-pressure strip** is at the origin of such spectacular disruptions. We conclude that across a complex cluster like Abell 85, environment mechanisms, both gravitational and hydrodynamical, are playing an active role in driving galaxy evolution.
