In this paper, we study McKean-Vlasov SDE living in $\mathbb{R}^d$ in the reversible case without assuming any type of convexity assumptions for confinement or interaction potentials. Kramers' type law for the exit-time from a domain of attraction is established. Namely, in the small-noise regime, the limit in probability of the first exit-time behaves exponentially. This result is established using the large deviations principle as well as improved coupling method.
Having removed the convexity assumption, this work is a major improvement of the previously known results for the exit-time problem, the review of which is provided in the paper.

$d X_t = - \left( \nabla V(X_t) + \frac{1}{t}\int_0^t\nabla F (X_t - X_s)ds \right) dt + σdW_t.$
We are interested in small-noise ($σ\to 0$) behaviour of exit-time from the potentials' domain of attraction. In this work rather weak assumptions on potentials $V$ and $F$, and on domain $G$ are considered. In particular, we do not assume $V$ nor $F$ to be either convex or concave, which covers a wide range of self-attracting and self-avoiding stochastic processes possibly moving in a complex multi-well landscape. The Large Deviation Principle for Self-interacting diffusion with generalized initial conditions is established. The main result of the paper states that, under some assumptions on potentials $V$ and $F$, and on domain $G$, Kramers' type law for the exit-time holds. Finally, we provide a result concerning the exit-location of the diffusion.

The present work investigates the asymptotic behaviors, at the zero-noise limit, of the first collision-time and first collision-location related to a pair of self-stabilizing diffusions and of their related particle approximations. These asymptotic are considered in a peculiar framework where diffusions evolve in a double-wells landscape and where collisions manifest due to the combined action of the Brownian motions driving each diffusion and the action of a self-stabilizing kernel. As the Brownian effects vanish, we show that first collision-times grow at an explicit exponential rate and that the related collision-locations persist at a special point in space. These results are mainly obtained by linking collision phenomena for diffusion processes with exit-time problems of random perturbed dynamical systems, and by exploiting Freidlin-Wentzell's LDP approach to solve these exit-time problems. Importantly, we consider two distinctive situations: the one-dimensional case (where true collisions can be directly studied) and the general multidimensional case (where collisions are required to be enlarged).

Granular media equation with double-well external landscape: limiting steady state

Abstract:
In this paper, we give a simple condition on the initial state of the granular media equation which ensures that the limit as the time goes to infinity is the unique steady state with positive center of mass. To do so, we use functional inequalities, Laplace method and McKean-Vlasov diffusion (which corresponds to the probabilistic interpretation of the granular media equation).

In this work we prove a Kramers' type law for the low-temperature behavior of the exit-times from a metastable state for a class of self-interacting nonlinear diffusion processes. Contrary to previous works, the interaction is not assumed to be convex, which means that this result covers cases where the exit-time for the interacting process is smaller than the exit-time for the associated non-interacting process. The technique of the proof is based on the fact that, under an appropriate contraction condition, the interacting process is conveniently coupled with a non-interacting (linear) Markov process where the interacting law is replaced by a constant Dirac mass at the fixed point of the deterministic zero-temperature process.

We study a class of reflected McKean-Vlasov diffusions over a convex domain with self-stabilizing coefficients. This includes coefficients that do not satisfy the classical Wasserstein Lipschitz condition. Further, the process is constrained to a (not necessarily bounded) convex domain by a local time on the boundary. These equations include the subclass of reflected self-stabilizing diffusions that drift towards their mean via a convolution of the solution law with a stabilizing potential.
Firstly, we establish existence and uniqueness results for this class and address the propagation of chaos. We work with a broad class of coefficients, including drift terms that are locally Lipschitz in spatial and measure variables. However, we do not rely on the boundedness of the domain or the coefficients to account for these non-linearities and instead use the self-stabilizing properties.
We prove a Freidlin-Wentzell type Large Deviations Principle and an Eyring-Kramer's law for the exit-time from subdomains contained in the interior of the reflecting domain.

The evolution of each process is influenced by four different forces, namely an external force, a self-interacting force, a cross-interacting force and a stochastic noise where the two interactions depend on the laws of the two processes. We also consider a many-particle system and a (nonlinear) partial differential equation (PDE) system that associate to the model. We prove the wellposedness of the SDEs, the propagation of chaos of the particle system, and the existence and (non)-uniqueness of invariant measures of the PDE system.

This article is concerned with the exponential stability and the uniform propagation of chaos properties of a class of Extended Ensemble Kalman-Bucy filters with respect to the time horizon. This class of nonlinear filters can be interpreted as the conditional expectations of nonlinear McKean Vlasov type diffusions with respect to the observation process. In contrast with more conventional Langevin nonlinear drift type processes, the mean field interaction is encapsulated in the covariance matrix of the diffusion. The main results discussed in the article are quantitative estimates of the exponential stability properties of these nonlinear diffusions. These stability properties are used to derive uniform and non asymptotic estimates of the propagation of chaos properties of Extended Ensemble Kalman filters, including exponential concentration inequalities. To our knowledge these results seem to be the first results of this type for this class of nonlinear ensemble type Kalman-Bucy filters.

The exponential stability and the concentration properties of a class of extended Kalman-Bucy filters are analyzed. New estimation concentration inequalities around partially observed signals are derived in terms of the stability properties of the filters. These non asymptotic exponential inequalities allow to design confidence interval type estimates in terms of the filter forgetting properties with respect to erroneous initial conditions. For uniformly stable signals, we also provide explicit non-asymptotic estimates for the exponential forgetting rate of the filters and the associated stochastic Riccati equations w.r.t. Frobenius norms. These non asymptotic exponential concentration and quantitative stability estimates seem to be the first results of this type for this class of nonlinear filters. Our techniques combine $χ$-square concentration inequalities and Laplace estimates with spectral and random matrices theory, and the non asymptotic stability theory of quadratic type stochastic processes.

The Ensemble Kalman filter is a sophisticated and powerful data assimilation method for filtering high dimensional problems arising in fluid mechanics and geophysical sciences. This Monte Carlo method can be interpreted as a mean-field McKean-Vlasov type particle interpretation of the Kalman-Bucy diffusions. In contrast to more conventional particle filters and nonlinear Markov processes these models are designed in terms of a diffusion process with a diffusion matrix that depends on particle covariance matrices. Besides some recent advances on the stability of nonlinear Langevin type diffusions with drift interactions, the long-time behaviour of models with interacting diffusion matrices and conditional distribution interaction functions has never been discussed in the literature. One of the main contributions of the article is to initiate the study of this new class of models The article presents a series of new functional inequalities to quantify the stability of these nonlinear diffusion processes. In the same vein, despite some recent contributions on the convergence of the Ensemble Kalman filter when the number of sample tends to infinity very little is known on stability and the long-time behaviour of these mean-field interacting type particle filters. The second contribution of this article is to provide uniform propagation of chaos properties as well as Lp-mean error estimates w.r.t. to the time horizon. Our regularity condition is also shown to be sufficient and necessary for the uniform convergence of the Ensemble Kalman filter. The stochastic analysis developed in this article is based on an original combination of functional inequalities and Foster-Lyapunov techniques with coupling, martingale techniques, random matrices and spectral analysis theory.

In some cases they correspond to processes attracted by their own probability distribution: the so-called self-stabilizing processes. Such diffusions can be obtained by taking the hydrodymamic limit in a huge system of linear diffusions in interaction. In both cases, for the linear and the nonlinear processes, small-noise asymptotics have been emphasized by specific large deviation phenomenons. The natural question, therefore, is: is it possible to interchange the mean-field limit with the small-noise limit? The aim here is to consider this question by proving that the rate function of the first particle in a mean-field system converges to the rate function of the hydrodynamic limit as the number of particles becomes large.
