Relevance of long-range screening in Mott transition examined via a hydrogen lattice
Abstract: The Mott transition, a metal-insulator transition due to strong electronic interaction, is observed in many materials without an accompanying change of system symmetry. An important open question in Mott's proposal is the role of long-range screening, whose drastic change across the quantum phase transition may self-consistently make the transition more abrupt, toward a first-order one. Here we in… ▽ More

Agree to Disagree: Measuring Hidden Dissents in FOMC Meetings
Abstract: Based on a record of dissents on FOMC votes and transcripts of the meetings from 1976 to 2017, we develop a deep learning model based on self-attention mechanism to create a measure of disagreement for members in each meeting. While dissents are rare, we find that members often have reservations with the policy decision, and the level of disagreement is mostly driven by current or predicted macroe… ▽ More

Do** a Wigner-Mott insulator: Exotic charge orders in transition-metal dichalcogenide moiré heterobilayers
Abstract: The moiré pattern induced by lattice mismatch in transition-metal dichalcogenide heterobilayers causes the formation of flat bands, where interactions dominate the kinetic energy. At fractional fillings of the flat valence band, the long-range electron interactions then induce Wigner-Mott crystals. In this Letter we investigate the nontrivial electronic phases appearing away from commensurate fill… ▽ More

Disorder-dominated quantum criticality in moiré bilayers
Abstract: Moiré bilayer materials have recently attracted much attention following the discovery of various correlated insulating states at specific band fillings. Here we discuss the metal-insulator transitions (MITs) that have been observed in the same devices, but at fillings far from the strongly correlated regime dominated by Mott-like physics, displaying many similarities to other examples of disorder… ▽ More

QCD Effective Locality : A Theoretical and Phenomenological Review
Abstract: About ten years ago the use of standard functional manipulations was demonstrated to imply an unexpected property satisfied by the fermionic Green's functions of QCD and dubbed Effective Locality. This feature of QCD is nonperturbative as it results from a full gauge invariant integration of the gluonic degrees of freedom. In this review article, a few salient theoretical aspects and phenomenologi… ▽ More

Quantum-embedding description of the Anderson lattice model with the ghost Gutzwiller Approximation
Abstract: We present benchmark calculations of the Anderson lattice model based on the recently-developed "ghost Gutzwiller approximation". Our analysis shows that, in some parameters regimes, the predictions of the standard Gutzwiller approximation can be incorrect by orders of magnitude for this model. We show that this is caused by the inability of this method to describe simultaneously the Mott physics… ▽ More

Schwinger-based QCD formulation's derivation of elastic pp scattering
Abstract: Using previously described functional techniques for some non-perturbative, gauge invariant, renormalized QCD processes, a simplified version of the amplitudes - in which forms akin to Pomerons naturally appear - provides fits to ISR and LHC-TOTEM pp elastic scattering data. Those amplitudes rely on a specific function $φ(b)$ which describes the fluctuations of the transverse position of quarks in… ▽ More

A New Concept for Kilotonne Scale Liquid Argon Time Projection Chambers
Abstract: We develop a novel approach for a Time Projection Chamber (TPC) concept suitable for deployment in kilotonne scale detectors, with a charge-readout system free from reconstruction ambiguities, and a robust TPC design that reduces high-voltage risks while increasing the coverage of the light collection system. This novel concept could be deployed as a Far Detector module in the Deep Underground Neu… ▽ More

Effective locality and chiral symmetry breaking in QCD
Abstract: A few years ago the use of standard functional manipulations was demonstrated to imply an unexpected property satisfied by the fermionic Green's functions of QCD, and called effective locality. This feature of QCD is non-perturbative as it results from a full integration of the gluonic degrees of freedom. In this paper, at eikonal and quenching approximation at least, the relation of effective loc… ▽ More

Schwinger Generating Functional Derivation of LHC Elastic Proton-Proton Scattering Amplitudes
Abstract: A recent Schwinger Generating Functional based formulation, by H.M.Fried,Y.Gabellini,T.Grandou and Y-M.Sheu and P.H.Tsang provided gauge-invariant, exact, non-perturbative solutions for QCD. After choosing a renormalization scheme and assuming a simpler 2 body quark-quark scattering problem, this formalism is tested against experimental elastic proton-proton scattering at LHC energies (7, 8, 13 Te… ▽ More

Chiral Symmetry Breaking out of QCD Effective Locality
Abstract: The QCD non-perturbative property of Effective Locality whose essential meaning has been disclosed recently, is here questioned about the chiral symmetry breaking phenomenon, one of the two major issues of the non-perturbative phase of QCD. As a first attempt, quenching and the eikonal approximation are used so as to simplify calculations which are quite involved. Chiral symmetry breaking appears… ▽ More

Test of an Analytic, Finite, Non-Perturbative, Gauge-Invariant QCD formulation against elastic pp scattering at the ISR energies
Abstract: A recent QCD formulation that is non-perturbative, finite, gauge-invariant, exact emerged from Schwinger's Generating Functional. A first test of the validity of this formulation is provided here against elastic proton-proton scattering at the Intersecting Storage Rings, ISR, energies. Extension to LHC energies is underway.

A physical version of the QCD confinement scale(s)
Abstract: We suggest a physical definition of the confinement mass scale in QCD in the framework of non-perturbative, gauge invariant QCD, where all possible gluons exchanged between any pair of quark lines are included; and we insist that a stable, quark bound state should not and must not have transverse quark fluctuations larger than the Compton wavelength of the bound state particle itself. An Exact, Finite, Gauge-Invariant, Non-Perturbative Model of QCD Renormalization
Abstract: A particular choice of renormalization, within the simplifications provided by the non-perturbative property of Effective Locality, leads to a completely finite, renormalized theory of QCD, in which all correlation functions can, in principle, be defined and calculated. In this Model of renormalization, only the Bundle chain-Graphs of the cluster expansion are non-zero. All Bundle graphs connectin… ▽ More
