We compute the electrical conductivity of the strongly interacting medium in the presence of strong magnetic background fields, $eB=4,9~GeV^2$, and for different values of the temperature, both in the confined and in the deconfined Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) phase. The conductivity is obtained from the Euclidean lattice time correlator of the electrical current, computed on gauge configurations sampled from Monte-Carlo simulations of an improved staggered discretization of $N_f = 2+1$ QCD. We perform the inverse Laplace transform of the correlator adopting a recently-proposed version of the standard Backus--Gilbert procedure for the inversion. The results obtained in the QGP phase show a sizable enhancement of the conductivity in the direction parallel to the magnetic field, as well as a suppression in the direction orthogonal to it. Such enhancement could be attributed to the manifestation of the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME): following this guess, we extract the behaviour of the relaxation time of this process, extrapolate it to the continuum limit and compare it to previous results, finding it lower than expected in the explored range of temperatures.

We suggest a new indicator of quantum chaos based on the logarithmic out-of-time-order correlator. On the one hand, this indicator correctly reproduces the average classical Lyapunov exponent in the semiclassical limit and directly links the definitions of quantum chaos and classical K-system. On the other hand, it can be analytically calculated using the replica trick and the Schwinger-Keldysh diagram technique on a $2n$-fold Keldysh contour. To illustrate this approach, we consider several one-dimensional systems, including the quantum cat map, and three paradigmatic large-$N$ models, including the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model. Furthermore, we find that correlations between replicas can reduce the magnitude of the Lyapunov exponent compared to estimates based on conventional out-of-time-order correlators.

We follow the transition from $N_f=3$ to larger $N_f$, when it remains of first order, with an increasing coupling strength; we summarize its known properties, including possible cosmological applications as a model for a strong electroweak transition. The first order transition, and its accompanying second order endpoint, finally morphs into the essential singularity at the onset of the conformal window, following the singular behaviour predicted by the Functional Renormalization Group.

To that end, we derive the effective Hamiltonian and resum leading loop corrections to the particle flux in a massless scalar field theory with time-dependent Dirichlet boundary conditions and quartic self-interaction. To perform the resummation, we assume small deviations from the equilibrium and employ a kind of rotating wave approximation. Besides that, we consider a quantum circuit analog of the dynamical Casimir effect, which is also essentially nonlinear. In both cases, loop contributions to the number of created particles are comparable to the tree-level values.

We study the scaling properties of the finite temperature QCD phase transition, for light quark masses ranging from the heavy quark regime to their physical values. The lattice results are obtained in the fixed scale approach from simulations of $N_f=2+1+1$ flavours of Wilson fermions at maximal twist. We identify an order parameter free from the the linear contributions in mass due to additive renormalization and regular terms in the Equation of State, which proves useful for the assessment of the hypothesized universal behaviour. We find compatibility with the 3D $O(4)$ universality class for the physical pion mass and temperatures $120$ MeV $ \lesssim T \lesssim 300$ MeV. We discuss violation of scaling at larger masses and a possible cross-over to mean field behaviour. The chiral extrapolation $T_0 = 134^{+6}_{-4}$ MeV of the pseudocritical temperature is robust against predictions of different universality classes and consistent with its estimate from the $O(4)$ Equation of State for the physical pion mass.

Second, we extend these results to arbitrarily large deviations using the Schwinger-Keldysh diagrammatic technique. We show that in strongly nonstationary situations, including resonant oscillations, loop corrections to the tree-level expressions effectively result in an additional degree of freedom, $N \to N + \frac{3}{2}$, which modifies the average number and energy of created particles.

Recently such corrections were shown to affect the particle production by a nonuniformly moving ideal mirror. We extend this conclusion to the cases of ideal vibrating cavity and single semitransparent mirror. These models provide natural IR and UV scales and allow a more accurate study of the loop behavior. In both cases we confirm that two-loop correction to the Keldysh propagator quadratically grows with time. This growth indicates a breakdown of the semiclassical approximation and emphasizes that bulk nonlinearities in the dynamical Casimir effect cannot be neglected for large evolution times.

We present results on QCD with four dynamical flavors in the temperature range $150$ MeV $\lesssim T \lesssim 500$ MeV. We have performed lattice simulations with Wilson fermions at maximal twist and measured Polyakov loop, chiral condensate and disconnected susceptibility, on lattices with spacings as fine as 0.065 fm. For most observables spacing effects are below statistical errors, which enables us to identify lattice results with continuum estimates. Our estimate of the pseudocritical temperature compares favorably with continuum results from staggered and domain wall fermions, confirming that a dynamical charm does not contribute in the transition region. From the high temperature behaviour of the disconnected chiral susceptibility we infer the topological susceptibility, which encodes relevant properties of the QCD axion, a plausible Dark Matter candidate. The topological susceptibility thus measured exhibits a power-law decay for $T/T_c \gtrsim 2$, with an exponent close to the one predicted by the Dilute Instanton Gas Approximation (DIGA). Close to $T_c$ the temperature dependent effective exponent seems to approach the DIGA result from above, a behaviour which would support recent analytic calculations based on an Instantons-dyons model. These results constrain the mass of a hypothetic QCD post-inflationary axion, once an assumption concerning the relative contribution of axions to Dark Matter is made.

We consider the simplest example of a nonstationary quantum system which is quantum mechanical oscillator with varying frequency and $λφ^4$ self-interaction. We calculate loop corrections to the Keldysh, retarded/advanced propagators and vertices using Schwinger--Keldysh diagrammatic technique and show that there is no physical secular growth of the loop corrections in the cases of constant and adiabatically varying frequency. This fact corresponds to the well-known adiabatic theorem in quantum mechanics. However, in the case of non-adiabatically varying frequency we obtain strong IR corrections to the Keldysh propagator which come from the `sunset' diagrams, grow with time indefinetely and indicate energy pum** into the system. It reveals itself via the change in time of the level population and of the anomalous quantum average.

I report on the first application of a novel, generalized Bayesian reconstruction (BR) method for spectral functions to the characterization of QCD constituents. These spectral functions find applications in off-shell kinetics of the quark-gluon plasma and in calculations of transport coefficients. The new BR method is applied to Euclidean propagator data, obtained in Landau gauge on lattices with $N_f=2+1+1$ dynamical flavors by the "twisted mass at finite temperature" (tmfT) collaboration. The deployed reconstruction method is designed for spectral functions that can exhibit positivity violation (opposed to that of hadronic bound states). The transversal and longitudinal gluon spectral functions show a robust structure composed of quasiparticle peak and a negative trough. Characteristic differences between the hadronic and the plasma phase and between the two channels become visible. We obtain the temperature dependence of the transversal and longitudinal gluon masses.

We present results on QCD with four dynamical flavors in the temperature range $0.9 \lesssim T/T_c \lesssim 2$. We have performed lattice simulations with Wilson fermions at maximal twist and measured the topological charge with gluonic and fermionic methods. The topological charge distribution is studied by means of its cumulants, which encode relevant properties of the QCD axion, a plausible Dark Matter candidate. The topological susceptibility measured with the fermionic method exhibits a power-law decay for $T/T_c \gtrsim 2$, with an exponent close to the one predicted by the Dilute Instanton Gas Approximation (DIGA). Close to $T_c$ the temperature dependent effective exponent approaches the DIGA result from above, in agreement with recent analytic calculations. These results constrain the axion window, once an assumption on the fraction of axions contributing to Dark Matter is made.

We investigate gluon spectral functions at finite temperature in Landau gauge, based on a subset of lattice QCD ensembles with $N_f=2+1+1$ dynamical twisted mass quarks flavors, generated by the tmfT collaboration. Our study uses a novel Bayesian approach for the extraction of non-positive definite spectral functions, which for each binned spatial momentum takes into account the gluon correlation functions at all available discrete imaginary frequencies. The spectral functions are extracted at three different lattice spacing, where for each of them, a scan of temperatures around the crossover transition is carried out at fixed scale. We find indications for the existence of a well defined quasi-particle peak. Due to a relatively small number of imaginary frequencies available, we focus on the momentum and temperature dependence of the position of this spectral feature. This dispersion relation reveals different in-medium masses for longitudinal and transversal gluons at high temperatures, qualitatively consistent with weak coupling expectations.

Several sources of relativistic corrections to the cross section are handled in the framework of relativistic quark model. Perturbative $\mathcal O(v^2)$ corrections originating from the production amplitude expansions in heavy quark relative velocity~$v$ depend on the color and spin states of the final particles, but can be generally considered as unimportant ones giving maximally 12\% improvement in numerically significant cases. Modifications of the quark--quark and antiquark--antiquark bound state wave functions caused by the appropriate generalization of the Breit interaction potential have rather severe impact on the cross section suppressing it almost three times. Under assumption of antitriplets and sextuplets' nonperturbative parameters having the same order of magnitude, it is shown that the color-sextet mechanism strongly dominates pair diquark production in both nonrelativistic and relativistic approximations.

We present results for the topological susceptibility at nonzero temperature obtained from lattice QCD with four dynamical quark flavours. We apply different smoothing methods, including gradient Wilson flow and over--improved cooling, before calculating the susceptibility. It is shown that the considered smoothing techniques basically agree among each other, and that there are simple scaling relations between flow time and the number of cooling/smearing steps. The topological susceptibility exhibits a surprisingly slow decrease at high temperature.

We present an ongoing project aimed at determining the thermodynamic Equation of State (EoS) of quark--gluon matter from lattice QCD with two generations of dynamical quarks. We employ the Wilson twisted mass implementation for the fermionic fields and the improved Iwasaki gauge action. Relying on $T=0$ data obtained by the ETM Collaboration the strange and charm quark masses are fixed at their physical values, while the pion mass takes four values in the range from 470 MeV down to 210 MeV. The temperature is varied within a fixed--lattice scale approach. The values for the pseudocritical temperature are obtained from various observables. For the EoS we show preliminary results for the pure gluonic contribution obtained at the pion mass value 370 MeV, where we can compare with previously obtained results with $N_f=2$ degenerate light flavours.

For the gluon and quark propagators entering the amplitudes we use a truncated expansion in relative quark momenta up to the second order. Relativistic corrections to the quark-quark bound state wave functions in the rest frame are considered by means of the Breit-like potential. It turns out that the examined effects significantly decrease nonrelativistic cross sections.
