Meeting of non-trivial topology with magnetism results in novel phases of matter, such as Quantum Anomalous Hall (QAH) or axion insulator phases. Even more exotic states with high and tunable Chern numbers are expected at the contact of intrinsic magnetic topological insulators (IMTIs) and 2D topological insulators (TIs).Here we synthesize a heterostructures composed of 2D TI and 3D IMTIs, specifically of bismuth bilayer on top of MnBi$_2$Te$_4$-family of compounds and study their electronic properties by means of angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) and density functional theory (DFT). The epitaxial interface is characterized by hybridized Bi and IMTI electronic states. The Bi bilayer-derived states on different members of MnBi$_2$Te$_4$-family of materials are similar, except in the region of mixing with the topological surface states of the substrate. In that region, the new, substrate dependent interface Dirac state is observed. Our \emph{ab initio} calculations show rich interface phases with emergence of exchange split 1D edge states, making the Bi/IMTI heterostructures promising playground for observation of novel members in the family of quantum Hall effects.

The valence band (VB) structure of an Al0.5TiZrPdCuNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) obtained from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy has been compared to that recently calculated by Odbadrakh et al, 2019. Both experimental and theoretical VBs show split-band structures typical of alloys composed from the early (TE) and late (TL) transition metals. Accordingly, several properties of this alloy (both in the glassy and crystalline state) associated with the electronic structure (ES), are compared with those of similar TE-TL alloys. The comparison shows in addition to the usual dependence on the total TL content strong effect of alloying with Al on the density of states at the Fermi level, N(EF) and on the magnetic susceptibility of Al0.5TiZrPdCuNi HEA, which is like that of conventional glassy alloys, such as Zr-Cu-Al ones. Despite some similarity between the shapes of theoretical and corresponding experimental VBs there are significant quantitative differences between them which should be taken into account in any future studies of ES in HEAs and other compositionally complex alloys (CCA).

A new amorphous alloy system $(TiZrNbCu)_{1-x}Co_x$ covering a broad composition range from the high-entropy (HEA) to Co rich alloys (x$\leqslant$ 0.43) has been fabricated, characterized and investigated. A comprehensive study of the chemical compositions, homogeneity, thermal stability, electronic structure and magnetic and mechanical properties has been performed. All properties change their variations with x within the HEA range. In particular, the average atomic volume deviates from the Vegard's law for x$\ge 0.2$, where also the average atomic packing fraction suddenly changes. The valence band structure, studied with ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy, shows a split-band shape with 3d-states of Co approaching the Fermi level on increasing x. Due to onset of magnetic correlations magnetic susceptibility rapidly increases for x$\ge 0.25$. Very high microhardness increases rapidly with x. The results are compared with those for similar binary and quinary metallic glasses and with those for Cantor type of crystalline alloys.

We present results of comprehensive study of electronic properties of (TiZrNbCu)(1-x)Ni(x) metallic glasses performed in broad composition range x encompassing both, high entropy (HE) range, and conventional Ni-base alloy concentration range, x >= 0.35. The electronic structure studied by photoemission spectroscopy and low temperature specific heat (LTSH) reveal a split-band structure of density of states inside valence band with d-electrons of Ti, Zr, Nb and also Ni present at Fermi level N(E_F), whereas LTSH and magnetoresistivity results show that variation of N(E_F) with x changes in Ni-base regime. The variation of superconducting transition temperatures with x closely follows that of N(E_F). The electrical resistivities of all alloys are high and decrease with increasing temperature over most of explored temperature range, and their temperature dependence seems dominated by weak localization effects over a broad temperature range (10-300 K). The preliminary study of Hall effect shows positive Hall coefficient that decreases rapidly in Ni-base alloys.

The atomic structure, electronic structure and physical properties of $(TiZrNbCu)_{(1-x)}Ni_x$ (x $\leq$ 0.5) metallic glasses (MG) were studied in both the high-entropy (0<x<0.35) and the higher Ni concentration range (x $\geq$ 0.35). Atomic structure studies performed with X-ray diffraction and synchrotron powder diffraction provided average atomic volumes, structure factors, radial distribution functions, coordination numbers and packing densities. Electronic structure studies performed using photoemission spectroscopy and low-temperature specific heat provided information about the electronic density of states within the valence band and at the Fermi level and also about interatomic bonding and atomic vibrations (from the Debye temperature and the boson peak). Variations of both atomic structure and electronic structure with x showed a clear change for x $\geq$ 0.35, which corresponds to a valence electron number $\geq$ 7.4. All physical properties, namely thermal stability parameters, Debye temperatures, boson peaks, magnetic, elastic and electronic transport properties change their concentration-dependence for x$\geq$ 0.35. The results are compared with those for binary and ternary MGs of the same elements.

We have used scanning tunneling microscopy to study the growth of graphene on a periodically stepped Ir(332) substrate surface, which is a promising route for modification of graphene properties. We have found that graphene continuously extends over iridium terraces and steps. Moreover, new distinctive mesoscopic features of the underlying surface are formed involving large, flat terraces accompanied by groups of narrower steps. The distribution of the newly formed terraces is sensitive to the preparation temperature and only below 800°C terrace width distribution closer to the intrinsic distribution of clean Ir(332) are found. We propose that the microscopic shape of steps found after graphene formation is strongly influenced by the orientation of graphene domains, where graphene rotated by 30° with respect to the substrate has a prominent role in surface structuring.
