This paper reviews the NTIRE 2020 challenge on real image denoising with focus on the newly introduced dataset, the proposed methods and their results. The challenge is a new version of the previous NTIRE 2019 challenge on real image denoising that was based on the SIDD benchmark. This challenge is based on a newly collected validation and testing image datasets, and hence, named SIDD+. This challenge has two tracks for quantitatively evaluating image denoising performance in (1) the Bayer-pattern rawRGB and (2) the standard RGB (sRGB) color spaces. Each track ~250 registered participants. A total of 22 teams, proposing 24 methods, competed in the final phase of the challenge. The proposed methods by the participating teams represent the current state-of-the-art performance in image denoising targeting real noisy images. The newly collected SIDD+ datasets are publicly available at: https://bit.ly/siddplus_data.

Recent advancements in Neural Architecture Search(NAS) resulted in finding new state-of-the-art Artificial Neural Network (ANN) solutions for tasks like image classification, object detection, or semantic segmentation without substantial human supervision. In this paper, we focus on exploring NAS for a dense prediction task that is image denoising. Due to a costly training procedure, most NAS solutions for image enhancement rely on reinforcement learning or evolutionary algorithm exploration, which usually take weeks (or even months) to train. Therefore, we introduce a new efficient implementation of various superkernel techniques that enable fast (6-8 RTX2080 GPU hours) single-shot training of models for dense predictions. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method on the SIDD+ benchmark for image denoising.

Abstract:
We have studied the properties of biaxial particles interacting via an anisotropic pair potential, involving second rank quadrupolar and third rank octupolar coupling terms, using Monte Carlo simulation. The particles occupy the sites of a 2D square lattice and the interactions are restricted to nearest neighbours. The system exhibits spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking from an isotropic phase to…

The system exhibits spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking from an isotropic phase to a chiral modulated nematic phase, composed of ambidextrous chiral domains. When two-fold axes of quadrupolar and octupolar tensors coincide this modulated phase appears to be the ambidextrous cholesteric phase of pitch comparable with a few lattice spacings, which can be regarded as a limiting case of the nematic twist bend phase. The associated phase transition is first-order.

Abstract:
In our paper selected linguistic features of genomes to study the statistics of the gene codes are considered. We present the information theory from which it follows that if the system is described by distributions of hyperbolic type it leads to the possibility of entropy loss and stability. We show that the histograms of gene lengths are similar to that of language words. We show the corresponde…

We present the information theory from which it follows that if the system is described by distributions of hyperbolic type it leads to the possibility of entropy loss and stability. We show that the histograms of gene lengths are similar to that of language words. We show the correspondence between presented theory and results for the number of replicated genes and replicated fragments of genes in genomes for Borelia burgdorferi, Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae S288c.

Distributions of repetitions of genes in genome appears to be represented by distributions of hyperbolic type.

By means of numerical integration we investigate the coherent and incoherent phases in a generalized Kuramoto model of phase-coupled oscillators with distance-dependent delay. Preserving the topology of a complete graph, we arrange the nodes on a square lattice while introducing finite interaction velocity, which gives rise to non-uniform delay. It is found that such delay facilitates incoherence and removes reentrant behavior found in models with uniform delay. A coupling-delay phase diagram is obtained and compared with previous results for uniform delay.
