Statistical linguistics has advanced considerably in recent decades as data has become available. This has allowed researchers to study how statistical properties of languages change over time. In this work, we use data from Twitter to explore English and Spanish considering the rank diversity at different scales: temporal (from 3 to 96 hour intervals), spatial (from 3km to 3000+km radii), and grammatical (from monograms to pentagrams). We find that all three scales are relevant. However, the greatest changes come from variations in the grammatical scale. At the lowest grammatical scale (monograms), the rank diversity curves are most similar, independently on the values of other scales, languages, and countries. As the grammatical scale grows, the rank diversity curves vary more depending on the temporal and spatial scales, as well as on the language and country. We also study the statistics of Twitter-specific tokens: emojis, hashtags, and user mentions. These particular type of tokens show a sigmoid kind of behaviour as a rank diversity function. Our results are helpful to quantify aspects of language statistics that seem universal and what may lead to variations.

Stellar occultations allow the determination of sizes and shapes with kilometre accuracy and obtain characteristics of the occulting object and its vicinity. Using stellar occultations observed between 2017 and 2020, we aim at constraining Chariklo's and its rings physical parameters. We also determine the rings' structure, and obtain precise astrometrical positions of Chariklo. We predicted and organised several observational campaigns of stellar occultations by Chariklo. Occultation light curves were measured from the data sets, from which ingress and egress times, and rings' width and opacity were obtained. These measurements, combined with results from previous works, allow us to obtain significant constraints on Chariklo's shape and rings' structure. We characterise Chariklo's ring system (C1R and C2R), and obtain radii and pole orientations that are consistent with, but more accurate than, results from previous occultations. We confirmed the detection of W-shaped structures within C1R and an evident variation of radial width. The observed width ranges between 4.8 and 9.1 km with a mean value of 6.5 km. One dual observation (visible and red) does not reveal any differences in the C1R opacity profiles, indicating ring particle's size larger than a few microns. The C1R ring eccentricity is found to be smaller than 0.022 (3-sigma), and its width variations may indicate an eccentricity higher than 0.005. We fit a tri-axial shape to Chariklo's detections over eleven occultations and determine that Chariklo is consistent with an ellipsoid with semi-axes of 143.8, 135.2 and 99.1 km. Ultimately, we provided seven astrometric positions at a milliarcseconds accuracy level, based on Gaia EDR3, and use it to improve Chariklo's ephemeris.

The area of Smart Power Grids needs to constantly improve its efficiency and resilience, to pro-vide high quality electrical power, in a resistant grid, managing faults and avoiding failures. Achieving this requires high component reliability, adequate maintenance, and a studied failure occurrence. Correct system operation involves those activities, and novel methodologies to detect, classify, and isolate faults and failures, model and simulate processes with predictive algorithms and analytics (using data analysis and asset condition to plan and perform activities). We show-case the application of a complex-adaptive, self-organizing modeling method, Probabilistic Boolean Networks (PBN), as a way towards the understanding of the dynamics of smart grid devices, and to model and characterize their behavior. This work demonstrates that PBNs are is equivalent to the standard Reinforcement Learning Cycle, in which the agent/model has an inter-action with its environment and receives feedback from it in the form of a reward signal. Differ-ent reward structures were created in order to characterize preferred behavior. This information can be used to guide the PBN to avoid fault conditions and failures.

In this article, we construct novel explicit solutions for nonlinear Schrödinger systems with spatially inhomogeneous nonlinearity by means of the Lie symmetry method. We focus the attention to solutions with non-trivial phase, which have been scarcely considered in the related literature. To get started, the theoretical method based on Lie symmetries is exposed, thus reducing the problem to the integrability of an ODE. The non-trivial phase introduces a singular term into the ODE. Then, the method is used to construct new families of analytical solutions. Some illustrative examples are provided.

Our results illustrate how, for $k=2$, the dimension $N=4$ plays the role of critical dimension separating two different phenomenologies below and above it.

It is a fourth order semilinear equation whose nonlinearity is the determinant of the Hessian matrix of the solution. We study the dynamics of small vortex clusters with few (2--4) co-rotating vortices in Bose-Einstein condensates by means of experiments, numerical computations, and theoretical analysis. All of these approaches corroborate the counter-intuitive presence of a dynamical instability of symmetric vortex configurations. The instability arises as a pitchfork bifurcation at sufficiently large values of the angular momentum that induces the emergence and stabilization of asymmetric rotating vortex configurations. The latter are quantified in the theoretical model and observed in the experiments. The dynamics is explored both for the integrable two-vortex system, where a reduction of the phase space of the system provides valuable insight, as well as for the non-integrable three- (or more) vortex case, which additionally admits the possibility of chaotic trajectories.

A mathematical model has been developed to explain these dynamics in the Saturn's F-ring and B-ring [3], the implications of which are in close agreement with the empirical results. In this paper, we conduct a rigorous analysis of the proposed forced dynamical system for a class of continuous, periodic and zero-mean forcing functions that model the ring perturbations caused by the moon flybys. In specific, we derive the existence of at least one periodic solution to the dynamic system with the period equal to the forcing period of the moon. Further, conditions for the uniqueness and stability of the solution and bounds for the amplitudes of the periodic solution are derived.

We present a systematic theoretical analysis of the motion of a pair of straight counter-rotating vortex lines within a trapped Bose-Einstein condensate. We introduce the dynamical equations of motion, identify the associated conserved quantities, and illustrate the integrability of the ensuing dynamics. The system possesses a stationary equilibrium as a special case in a class of exact solutions that consist of rotating guiding-center equilibria about which the vortex lines execute periodic motion; thus, the generic two-vortex motion can be classified as quasi-periodic. We conclude with an analysis of the linear and nonlinear stability of these stationary and rotating equilibria.

The dynamics of one species chemical kinetics is studied. Chemical reactions are modelled by means of continuous time Markov processes whose probability distribution obeys a suitable master equation. A large deviation theory is formally introduced, which allows develo** a Hamiltonian dynamical system able to describe the system dynamics. Using this technique we are able to show that the intrinsic fluctuations, originated in the discrete character of the reagents, may sustain oscillations and chaotic trajectories which are impossible when these fluctuations are disregarded. An important point is that oscillations and chaos appear in systems whose mean-field dynamics has too low a dimensionality for showing such a behavior. In this sense these phenomena are purely induced by noise, which does not limit itself to shifting a bifurcation threshold. On the other hand, they are large deviations of a short transient nature which typically only appear after long waiting times. We also discuss the implications of our results in understanding extinction events in population dynamics models expressed by means of stoichiometric relations.

Abstract:
Using Lie group theory and canonical transformations, we construct explicit solutions of nonlinear Schrodinger equations with spatially inhomogeneous nonlinearities. We present the general theory, use it to study different examples and use the qualitative theory of dynamical systems to obtain some properties of these solutions.

Abstract:
Using Lie group theory and canonical transformations we construct explicit solutions of nonlinear Schrodinger equations with spatially inhomogeneous nonlinearities. We present the general theory, use it to show that localized nonlinearities can support bound states with an arbitrary number solitons and discuss other applications of interest to the field of nonlinear matter waves.

Abstract:
A proof of existence of stationary dark soliton solutions of the cubic-quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a periodic potential is given. It is based on the interpretation of the dark soliton as a heteroclinic on the Poincaré map.

In this paper we use a similarity transformation connecting some families of Nonlinear Schrodinger equations with time-varying coefficients with the autonomous cubic nonlinear Schrodinger equation. This transformation allows one to apply all known results for that equation to the non-autonomous case with the additional dynamics introduced by the transformation itself. In particular, using stationary solutions of the autonomous nonlinear Schrodinger equation we can construct exact breathing solutions to multidimensional non-autonomous nonlinear Schrodinger equations. An application is given in which we explicitly construct time dependent coefficients leading to solutions displaying weak collapse in three-dimensional scenarios. Our results can find physical applicability in mean field models of Bose-Einstein condensates and in the field of dispersion-managed optical systems.
