RS Oph is a symbiotic recurrent nova containing a massive white dwarf with heavy mass loss during activity. In August 2021, it underwent its seventh optical eruption since the end of the 19th century. The goal of this work is to analyse the structure of the outflows from the outbursting object. Based on broad-band $U$, $B$, $V$, $R_{\rm C}$, and $I_{\rm C}$ photometry and high-resolution H$α$ spectroscopy obtained at days 11--15 of the outburst, we derived some parameters of the system's components and outflows and their changes during our observation. The effective temperature of a warm shell (pseudophotosphere) produced by the ejected material and occulting the hot component of the system was $T_{eff}=15000\pm1000$ K and the electron temperature of the nebula was $T_{e}=17000\pm3000$ K throughout the observations. The effective radius of the pseudophotosphere was $R_{ eff}=13.3\pm2.0$ R$_{\odot}$ and the emission measure of the nebula $EM=(9.50\pm0.59) $10$^{61}$ cm$^{-3}$ for day 11 and $R_{eff}=10.3\pm1.6$ R$_{\odot}$ and $EM=(5.60\pm0.35)$10$^{61}$ cm$^{-3}$ for day 15. To provide this emission measure, the bolometric luminosity of the outbursting object must exceed its Eddington limit. The mass-loss rate of the outbursting object through its wind is much greater than through its streams. The total rate (from wind + streams) was less than $(4-5)$ 10$^{-5}$ (d/1.6kpc)$^{3/2}$ M$_{\odot}$yr$^{-1}$. The streams are not highly collimated. Their mean outflowing velocities are $\upsilon_{b}=-3680\pm60$ km s$^{-1}$ for the approaching stream and $\upsilon_{r}=3520\pm50$ km s$^{-1}$ for the receding one if the orbit inclination is 50$^\circ$.

We measure the equivalent width of H$α$ (EW$_α$), H$β$ ($EW_β$), and the distance between the peaks of H$α$ ($ΔV_α$), H$β$ ($ΔV_β$), and FeII ($ΔV_{FeII}$) lines. Combining new and old data, we find that:
- the density of the circumstellar disc of MWC 656 ($ΔV_α$ versus $EW_α$ diagram) is similar to the Be stars. For the Be stars we find the relation $ΔV_β= 0.999 ΔV_α+ 62.4$ km s$^{-1}$, and the position of MWC~656 corresponds to the average behaviour of the Be stars. This means that the presence of the black hole does not change the overall structure of the circumstellar disc.
- the periodogram analysis indicates modulation of $EW_α$ with a period $60.4 \pm 0.4$ days, which is identical to the binary orbital period. The maxima of $EW_α$ and $EW_β$ are around periastron (phase zero).
- around orbital phase zero, $ΔV_β$ and $ΔV_{FeII}$ decrease by about $30$ km s$^{-1}$. This suggests that we observe an increase of the circumstellar disc size induced by the periastron passage of the black hole and that the entire circumstellar disc pulsates with the orbital period with relative amplitude of 10-20%. The observations also indicate, that the reason for the black hole in MWC 656 to be in deep quiescence is a very low efficiency of accretion ($\sim 2 \times 10^{-6}$).

We present a spectral study of the single magnetically active K giant OP And in the period 1979 -- 2018, monitoring the variability of the activity indicator line H$α$. Original data obtained in the period 2015 -- 2018 with the echelle spectrograph ESpeRo at the 2m telescope of the National Astronomical Observatory Rozhen in Bulgaria, previously unpublished original data obtained in the period 1997 -- 2007 and on one night in 2013 with the Coude spectrograph at the same telescope, as well as data from the literature are presented in this study. The variability of the H$α$ line reveals that the activity level of OP And is higher in the period 1993 -- 2000, while during the period 2008 -- 2010 it is lower, possibly close to a minimum. Also, our data for the period 2015 -- 2018 show that the activity level is increasing again. Spectral observations of the activity indicators CaII H&K lines and CaII IR triplet are sparse during the studied period. We use such ones when possible to confirm the detection of some flare events. The structure of H$α$ changes with the activity level: when the activity is higher, we observe a blue-shifted component of this line, interpreted as an expanding area above the photosphere, but during a lower activity period it is almost absent. Our results are in a good agreement with the idea that the magnetic field controls the mass outflow in this giant. More years of observations are necessary to determine the eventual activity cycle of OP And.

During the first part of the period (December 2017 - August 2018) the V/R-ratio decreased to 0.5 and the asymmetry developed simultaneously in all three lines. In September 2018, a third component with velocity $\approx 250$~km~s$^{-1}$ appeared on the red side of the HeI line profile. Later this component emerged in $Hβ$, accompanied by the appearance of a red shoulder in $Hα$. Assuming that it is due to an eccentric wave in the circumstellar disc, we find that the eccentric wave appeared first in the innermost part of the disc, it spreads out with outflowing velocity $v_{wave} \approx 1.1 \pm 0.2 $~km~s$^{-1}$, and the eccentricity of the eccentric wave is $e_{wave} \approx 0.29 \pm 0.07$. A detailed understanding of the origin of such eccentricities would have applications to a wide range of systems from planetary rings to AGNs.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death, and experts estimate that approximately half of all heart attacks and strokes occur in people who have not been flagged as "at risk." Thus, there is an urgent need to improve the accuracy of heart disease diagnosis. To this end, we investigate the potential of using data analysis, and in particular the design and use of deep neural networks (DNNs) for detecting heart disease based on routine clinical data. Our main contribution is the design, evaluation, and optimization of DNN architectures of increasing depth for heart disease diagnosis. This work led to the discovery of a novel five layer DNN architecture - named Heart Evaluation for Algorithmic Risk-reduction and Optimization Five (HEARO-5) -- that yields best prediction accuracy. HEARO-5's design employs regularization optimization and automatically deals with missing data and/or data outliers. To evaluate and tune the architectures we use k-way cross-validation as well as Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC) to measure the quality of our classifications. The study is performed on the publicly available Cleveland dataset of medical information, and we are making our developments open source, to further facilitate openness and research on the use of DNNs in medicine. The HEARO-5 architecture, yielding 99% accuracy and 0.98 MCC, significantly outperforms currently published research in the area.

High-resolution observations in the region, centered at 4400 Å and those of the lines HeII 4686, Hbeta and HeI 6678 of the spectrum of the symbiotic binary Z And were performed during its outburst in 2006. The line Hbeta had additional satellite high-velocity emission components situated on either side of its central peak. The lines of neutral helium presented two components, consisting of a nebular emission situated close to the reference wavelength and a highly variable P Cyg absorption. Close to the optical maximum the line HeII 4686 was weak emission feature, but with the fading of the light it changed into an intensive emission consisting of a central narrow component and a broad component with a low intensity. The lines of NIII and CIII were very broadened. We demonstrate that all of these groups of lines with very different profiles can be interpreted in the light of the same model, where a disc-shaped material surrounding the compact object collimates its stellar wind and gives rise to bipolar outflow.

The optical light of the symbiotic binary BF Cygni during its last eruption after 2006 shows orbital variations because of an eclipse of the outbursting compact object. The first orbital minimum is deeper than the following ones. Moreover, the Balmer profiles of this system acquired additional satellite components indicating bipolar collimated outflow at one time between the first and second orbital minima. This behaviour is interpreted in the framework of the model of collimated stellar wind from the outbursting object. It is supposed that one extended disc-like envelope covering the accretion disc of the compact object and collimating its stellar wind forms in the period between the first and second minima. The uneclipsed part of this envelope is responsible for the decrease of the depth of the orbital minimum. The calculated $UBVR_{C}I_{C}$ fluxes of this uneclipsed part are in agreement with the observed residual of the depths of the first and second orbital minima. The parameters of the envelope require that it is the main emitting region of the line H$α$ but the H$α$ profile is less determined from its rotation and mostly from other mechanisms. It is concluded that the envelope is a transient nebular region and its destruction determines the increase of the depth of the orbital minimum with fading of the optical light.

We studied the average orbital modulation of various parameters (gamma-ray flux, H-alpha emission line, optical V band brightness) of the radio- and gamma-ray emitting Be/X-ray binary LSI+61303. Using the Spearman rank correlation test, we found highly significant correlations between the orbital variability of the equivalent width of the blue hump of the H-alpha and Fermi-LAT flux with a Spearman p-value 2e-5, and the equivalent widths ratio EW_B/EW_R and Fermi-LAT flux with p-value 9e-5. We also found a significant anti-correlation between Fermi-LAT flux and V band magnitude with p-value 7.10^{-4}.
All these correlations refer to the average orbital variability, and we conclude that the H-alpha and gamma-ray emission processes in LSI+61303 are connected. The possible physical scenario is briefly discussed.

From measuring various H-alpha parameters, we found that the orbital modulation of the H-alpha is best visible in the equivalent width ratio EW(B)/EW(R), the equivalent width of the blue hump, and in the radial velocity of the central dip. The periodogram analysis confirmed that the H-alpha emission is modulated with the orbital and superorbital periods. For the past 20 years the radius of the circumstellar disk is similar to the Roche lobe size at the periastron. It is probably truncated by a 6:1 resonance. The orbital maximum of the equivalent width of H-alpha emission peaks after the periastron and coincides on average with the X-ray and gamma-ray maxima. Two observational campaigns were carried out during the eclipses of EE Cep in 2003 and 2008/9 to verify whether the eclipsing body in the system is indeed a dark disk and to understand the observed changes in the depth and durations of the eclipses. Multicolour photometric data and spectroscopic observations at both low and high resolution were collected. We numerically modelled the variations in brightness and colour during the eclipses. We tested models with different disk structure. We considered the possibility of disk precession. The complete set of observational data collected during the last three eclipses are made available to the astronomical community. Two blue maxima in the colour indices were detected during these two eclipses, one before and one after the photometric minimum. The first (stronger) blue maximum is simultaneous with a "bump" that is very clear in all the UBVRI light curves. Variations in the spectral line profiles seem to be recurrent during each cycle. NaI lines always show at least three absorption components during the eclipse minimum and strong absorption is superimposed on the H_alpha emission. These observations confirm that the eclipsing object in EE Cep system is indeed a dark, dusty disk around a low luminosity object. The primary appears to be a rapidly rotating Be star that is strongly darkened at the equator and brightened at the poles. Some of the conclusions of this work require verification in future studies: (i) a complex, possibly multi-ring structure of the disk in EE Cep; (ii) our explanation of the "bump" observed during the last two eclipses in terms of the different times of obscuration of the hot polar regions of the Be star by the disk; and (iii) our suggested period of the disk precession (~11-12 P_orb) and predicted depth of about 2 mag the forthcoming eclipse in 2014.

Results of the study of the symbiotic binary Z And during its recent active phase 2000 -- 2010 when it experienced a series of six optical outbursts are presented. High-resolution spectra obtained during the first and fourth outburst, which was the strongest one, have been analyzed. These data are compared with results of theoretical computations. The comparison provides information about the behaviour of the system during the entire active phase rather than during an individual outburst. In particular it was found fundamental difference between the first outburst, which opened the active phase, and the recurrent outbursts - namely, the presence of bipolar collimated optical outflow during some of the recurrent outbursts. A scenario that can explain all the spectroscopic phenomena observed during this active phase as well as previous active phases of Z And is proposed. The possibility to use this scenario for explanation of the line spectrum of other classical symbiotic stars during their active phases is motivated.

High resolution observations in the region of the lines Halpha, He II 4686 and Hgamma of the spectrum of the symbiotic binary Z And were performed during its small-amplitude brightening at the end of 2002. The profiles of the hydrogen lines were double-peaked. These profiles give a reason to suppose that the lines can be emitted mainly by an optically thin accretion disc. The Halpha line is strongly contaminated by the emission of the envelope, therefore for consideration of accretion disc properties we use the Hgamma line. The Halpha line had broad wings which are supposed to be determined mostly from radiation dam** but high velocity stellar wind from the compact object in the system can also contribute to their appearance. The Hgamma line had a broad emission component which is assumed to be emitted mainly from the inner part of the accretion disc. The line He II 4686 had a broad emission component too, but it is supposed to appear in a region of a high velocity stellar wind. The outer radius of the accretion disc can be calculated from the shift between the peaks. Assuming, that the orbit inclination can ranges from 47$^\circ$ to 76$^\circ$, we estimate the outer radius as 20 - 50 R_sun. The behaviour of the observed lines can be considered in the framework of the model proposed for interpretation of the line spectrum during the major 2000 - 2002 brightening of this binary.

Abstract:
The photometric and spectroscopic observational campaign organized for the 2008/9 eclipse of EE Cep revealed features, which indicate that the eclipsing disk in the EE Cep system has a multi-ring structure. We suggest that the gaps in the disk can be related to the possible planet formation.

A blue-shifted absorption component indicating outflow velocity of about 1400 km/s as well as additional emission components with similar velocities, situated on the two sides of the main peak of the line were observed during that time. It is suggested that all of them are spectral signature of bipolar outflow, observed for the first time in the optical spectrum of this binary. The emission measure and the mass of the nebular part of the streams were estimated approximately.

Two-dimensional gas-dynamical modeling of the mass-flow structure is used to study the outburst development in the classical symbiotic star Z And. The stage-by-stage rise of the light during the outburst can be explained in the framework of the colliding winds model. We suggest a scenario for the development of the outburst and study the possible influence of the changes of the flow structure on the light of the system. The model variations of the luminosity due to the formation of a system of shocks are in good agreement with the observed light variations.

Abstract:
We report that the H_alpha emission line of RS Oph was strongly variable during our 2004 observations on a time scale of 1 month. The line consisted of both a double peaked central narrow component (FWHM ~ 220 km/s) and a strongly variable broad one (FWHM ~ 2000 km/s). The base of the H_alpha line was very broad with FWZI 4600 km/s on all spectra from 1986 to 2004. The variability of the broad c…

Most probably this is due to either blobs ejected from the white dwarf (with a typical blob mass estimated to be ~10^{-10} M_solar or a variable accretion disk wind.
We also detected variability of the HeII4686 line on a time scale shorter than 1 day. The possible origin is discussed.

We report our search for variability in the H-alpha emission line of the recurrent novae T CrB with time resolution 10-15 minutes. This is comparable with the time scale of the photometric flickering observed in this object. This is the first time that observations of the short time scale variation in emission lines have been made in this object. On two nights (990106 and 990107) we detected statistically significant variability (at 0.99 confidence level) in the line profile of H-alpha. This variability is confined in the central part of the emission line (\pm 100 km/s) although FWZI(H-alpha) is ~800 km/s. The variability in the line profile is accompanied with variability of the total equivalent width, EW(H-alpha), \pm 8% for 990106, and \pm 6% for 990107 (calculated from the mean value of EW). Assuming Keplerian motion, the variability is generated at a distance ~20-30 R_Solar from the white dwarf, which is approximately the radius of the ring the stream of gas forms as it flows away from L_1. On three other nights we are only able to put upper limits on the variability, ΔEW(H-alpha) \pm 2% for 980415, \pm 4% for 980802, and \pm 3% for 980803.

We analyze H-alpha observations of the recurrent nova T CrB obtained during the last decade. For the first time the H-alpha emission profile is analyzed after subtraction of the red giant contribution. Based on our new radial velocity measurements of the H-alpha emission line we estimate the component masses of T CrB. It is found that the hot component is most likely a massive white dwarf. We estimate the inclination and the component masses to be i~67 deg, Mwd = 1.37 +/-0.13 Msun and Msec=1.12 +/-0.23 Msun, respectively. The radial velocity of the central dip in the H-alpha profile changes nearly in phase with that of the red giant's absorption lines. This suggests that the dip is most likely produced by absorption in the giant's wind.
Our observations cover an interval when the H-alpha and the U-band flux vary by a factor of ~6, while the variability in B and V is much smaller. Based on our observations, and archival ultraviolet and optical data we show that the optical, ultraviolet and H-alpha fluxes strongly correlate. We argue that the presence of an accretion disc can account for most of the observed properties of T CrB.

We present a comparative study of the circumstellar disks in Be/X-ray binaries and isolated Be stars based upon the H-alpha emission line. From this comparison it follows that the overall structure of the disks in the Be/X-ray binaries is similar to the disks of other Be stars, i.e. they are axisymmetric and rotationally supported. The factors for the line broadening (rotation and temperature) in the disks of the Be stars and the Be/X-ray binaries seem to be identical.
However, we do detect some intriguing differences between the envelopes. On average, the circumstellar disks of the Be/X-ray binaries are twice as dense as the disks of the isolated Be stars. The different distribution of the Be/X-ray binaries and the Be stars seen in the full width at half maximum (FWHM) versus peak separation diagram indicates that the disks in Be/X-ray binaries have on average a smaller size, probably truncated by the compact object.
