Connectedness of level sets for non-degenerate integrable systems that extend complexity one torus actions
Abstract: In this paper we study the connectedness of the level sets of integrable systems that have only non-degenerate singular points and extend complexity one $T$-spaces with proper moment maps. Our main result states that if there are no singular points with a hyperbolic block and connected $T$-stabilizer, then each level set is connected. Moreover, we prove that the above condition is necessary if eit… ▽ More

Shape Analysis for Pediatric Upper Body Motor Function Assessment
Abstract: Neuromuscular disorders, such as Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), cause progressive muscular degeneration and loss of motor function for 1 in 6,000 children. If $n \neq 3$ is odd, or if $π_1(Q)$ is infinite, we show that the cosphere bundle of $Q$ is equivariantly contactomorphic to the cosphere bundle of the torus $\T^n$. Abstract: The study of fixed points is a classical subject in geometry and dynamics. If the circle acts in a Hamiltonian fashion on a compact symplectic manifold M, then it is classically known that there are at least 1 + dim(M)/2 fixed points; this follows from Morse theory for the momentum map of the action. Instead, these manifolds possess a weaker structure, such as a spin^c structure. Our theorems work whenever the quantization data and the reduction data are compatible; this condition always holds if we start from a presymplectic (in particular, symplectic) manifold.
