We experimentally demonstrate a simple scheme for generating a four-photon entangled cluster state with fidelity over 0.860 $\pm$ 0.015. We show that the fidelity is high enough to guarantee that the produced state is distinguished from Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger, W, and Dicke types of genuine four-qubit entanglement. We also demonstrate basic operations of one-way quantum computing using the produced state and show that the output state fidelities surpass classical bounds, which indicates that the entanglement in the produced state essentially contributes to the quantum operation.

The current/voltage effects observed in this study are explained by the self-heating effect, which enable us to control the colossal electroresistance effects. This thermal-cycle induced switching between electronic solid and liquid states can be regarded as electronic version of atomic crystal/amorphous transitions in phase-change chalcogenides.

We report on the in-plane anisotropy of the electronic response in the spin/charge/orbital ordered phase of a half-doped layered-structure manganite. The optical conductivity spectra for a single domain of Eu$_{1/2}$% Ca$_{3/2}$MnO$_{4}$ unambiguously show the anisotropic charge dynamics which well corresponds to the theoretical calculation: the optical conductivity with the polarization along the zigzag ferromagnetic chain direction exhibits a smaller gap and a larger intensity at lower energies than that of the perpendicular polarization mostly due to the charge/orbital ordering and the associated quantum interference effect.

We have carried out the $^{11}$B NMR measurement on the itinerant paramagnetic systems U$M_{3}$B$_{2}$ ($M =$ Co, Ir) to investigate the low-dimensional characteristics of the $5f$-electrons due to the structural anisotropy. The recent X-ray analysis suggests that UIr$_3$B$_2$ has a different structure modulated from the ever-known superlattice. The azimuth angle variation of NMR spectrum within the $ab$-plane clarified that B atoms occupy the single site, and a certain ligands arrangement surrounding B atom turns to the same orientation as the another one through the three- or six-fold rotation around the c-axis. These results have been consistent with the X-ray proposition. To evaluate the temperature ($T$) development of general susceptibility ($χ_{q,ω}$), Knight shift and nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rates measurements were performed and the similar variations of $χ_{q,ω}$ were identified in both UCo$_{3}$B$_{2}$ and UIr$_{3}$B$_{2}$. Above a crossover point defined as $T^{*}\simeq50$ K, the evolution of $χ_{q,ω}$ is dominant at $q=0$, suggesting that ferromagnetic correlations develop in high-$T$ regimes; meanwhile, below $T^{*}$, the $q=0$ part in $χ_{q,ω}$ shows the saturation tendency, and a different class of dispersion at finite-$q$ suddenly emerges. This particular magnetic correlations are interpreted as the antiferromagnetic correlations, and notable feature of the magnetic state dynamics in low-$T$ regimes is that the antiferromagnetic correlations arise together with the ferromagnetic component at the same time. The unique magnetic correlations obtained from NMR experiment will be discussed by the possible low-dimensionality of U$M_{3}$B$_{2}$ lattice.

This claim, which is in line with an earlier publication by Williams, Tallon and Dupree [Phys. Rev. On the contrary, the authors argue in favor of a very localized spin and charge density on Cu sites first neighbors to Zn. We show that the conclusions of Williams and Kramer arise from erroneous interpretations of NMR and NQR data.

Application of magnetic fields to this current-induced insulating state causes pronounced low-field negative magnetoresistance effect [r(H)/r(0)=10^{-3} at H=1kOe]. Application of a constant voltage also causes breakdown of ohmic relation above a threshold voltage. At voltages higher than this threshold value, oscillations in currents are observed. This oscillation is well reproduced by a simple model of local switching of a percolative conduction path.

We report a coexistence of superconductivity and antiferromagnetism in five-layered compound HgBa$_2$Ca$_4$Cu$_5$O$_y$ (Hg-1245) with $T_c=108$ K, which is composed of two types of CuO$_2$ planes in a unit cell; three inner planes (IP's) and two outer planes (OP's). The Cu-NMR study has revealed that the optimallydoped OP undergoes a superconducting (SC) transition at $T_c=108$ K, whereas the three underdoped IP's do an antiferromagnetic (AF) transition below $T_N\sim$ 60 K with the Cu moments of $\sim (0.3-0.4)μ_B$. Thus bulk superconductivity with a high value of $T_c=108$ K and a static AF ordering at $T_N=60$ K are realized in the alternating AF and SC layers. The AF-spin polarization at the IP is found to induce the Cu moments of $\sim0.02μ_B$ at the SC OP, which is the AF proximity effect into the SC OP.

We report $^{7}$Li pulsed NMR measurements in polycrystalline and single crystal samples of the quasi one-dimensional S=1 antiferromagnet LiVGe$_2$O$_6$, whose AF transition temperature is $T_{\text{N}}\simeq 24.5$ K. The field ($B_0$) and temperature ($T$) ranges covered were 9-44.5 T and 1.7-300 K respectively. The measurements included NMR spectra, the spin-lattice relaxation rate ($T_1^{-1}$), and the spin-phase relaxation rate ($T_2^{-1}$), often as a function of the orientation of the field relative to the crystal axes. The spectra indicate an AF magnetic structure consistent with that obtained from neutron diffraction measurements, but with the moments aligned parallel to the c-axis. The spectra also provide the $T$-dependence of the AF order parameter and show that the transition is either second order or weakly first order. Both the spectra and the $T_1^{-1}$ data show that $B_0$ has at most a small effect on the alignment of the AF moment. There is no spin-flop transition up to 44.5 T. These features indicate a very large magnetic anisotropy energy in LiVGe$_2$O$_6$ with orbital degrees of freedom playing an important role. Below 8 K, $T_1^{-1}$ varies substantially with the orientation of $B_0$ in the plane perpendicular to the c-axis, suggesting a small energy gap for magnetic fluctuations that is very anisotropic.

The average electron spin-polarization $\cal P$ of two-dimensional electron gas confined in $\rm GaAs/GaAlAs$ multiple quantum-wells was measured by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) near the fractional quantum Hall state with filling factor $ν={2/3}$. Above this filling factor (${2/3} \leq ν< 0.85$), a strong depolarization is observed corresponding to two spin flips per additional flux quantum. The most remarkable behavior of the polarization is observed at $ν={2/3}$, where a quantum phase transition from a partially polarized (${\cal P} \approx {3/4}$) to a fully polarized (${\cal P} = 1$) state can be driven by increasing the ratio between the Zeeman and the Coulomb energy above a critical value $η_{c} = \frac{Δ_{Z}}{Δ_{C}} = 0.0185$.
