Abstract:
Cross-lingual summarization (CLS) is the task to produce a summary in one particular language for a source document in a different language. We introduce WikiMulti - a new dataset for cross-lingual summarization based on Wikipedia articles in 15 languages. As a set of baselines for further studies, we evaluate the performance of existing cross-lingual abstractive summarization methods on our datas…

Quantum Thermal Hall effect of chiral spinons on a Kagome strip

Abstract:
We develop a theory for the thermal Hall coefficient in a spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ system on a strip of Kagome lattice, where a chiral spin-interaction term is present. To this end, we model the Kagome strip as a three-leg $XXZ$ spin-ladder, and use Bosonization to derive a low-energy theory for the spinons in this system. Introducing further a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction ($D$) and a tunable magne…

To this end, we model the Kagome strip as a three-leg $XXZ$ spin-ladder, and use Bosonization to derive a low-energy theory for the spinons in this system. Introducing further a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction ($D$) and a tunable magnetic field ($B$), we identify three distinct $B$-dependent quantum phases: a valence-bond crystal (VBC), a "metallic" spin liquid (MSL) and a chiral spin liquid (CSL). In the presence of a temperature difference $ΔT$ between the top and the bottom edges of the strip, we evaluate the net heat current $J_h$ along the strip, and consequently the thermal Hall conductivity $κ_{xy}$. We find that the VBC-MSL-CSL transitions are accompanied by a pronounced qualitative change in the behavior of $κ_{xy}$ as a function of $B$. In particular, analogously to the quantum Hall effect, $κ_{xy}$ in the CSL phase exhibits a quantized plateau centered around a commensurate value of the spinon filling factor $ν_s\propto B/D$.

Abstract:
We derive an effective low-energy theory for a ferromagnetic $(2N+1)$-leg spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ ladder with strong $XXZ$ anisotropy $\left|J_{\parallel}^z\right|\ll \left|J_{\parallel}^{xy}\right|$, subject to a kink-like non-uniform magnetic field $B_z(X)$ which induces a domain wall (DW). Using Bosonization of the quantum spin operators, we show that the quantum dynamics is dominated by a single on…

Using Bosonization of the quantum spin operators, we show that the quantum dynamics is dominated by a single one-dimensional mode, and is described by a sine-Gordon model. The parameters of the effective model are explored as functions of $N$, the easy-plane anisotropy $Δ=-J_{\parallel}^z/J_{\parallel}^{xy}$, and the strength and profile of the transverse field $B_z(X)$. We find that at sufficiently strong and asymmetric field, this mode may exhibit a quantum phase transition from a Luttinger liquid to a spin-density-wave (SDW) ordered phase. As the effective Luttinger parameter grows with the number of legs in the ladder ($N$), the SDW phase progressively shrinks in size, recovering the gapless dynamics expected in the two-dimensional limit $N\rightarrow\infty$.

Abstract:
The conductance of graphene subject to a strong, tilted magnetic field exhibits a dramatic change from insulating to conducting behavior with tilt-angle, regarded as evidence for the transition from a canted antiferromagnetic (CAF) to a ferromagnetic (FM) ν=0 quantum Hall state. We develop a theory for the electric transport in this system based on the spin-charge connection, whereby the evolution…

We develop a theory for the electric transport in this system based on the spin-charge connection, whereby the evolution in the nature of collective spin excitations is reflected in the charge-carrying modes. To this end, we derive an effective field theoretical description of the low-energy excitations, associated with quantum fluctuations of the spin-valley domain wall ground-state configuration which characterizes the two-dimensional (2D) system with an edge. This analysis yields a model describing a one-dimensional charged edge mode coupled to charge-neutral spin-wave excitations in the 2D bulk. Focusing particularly on the FM phase, naively expected to exhibit perfect conductance, we study a mechanism whereby the coupling to these bulk excitations assists in generating back-scattering. Our theory yields the conductance as a function of temperature and the Zeeman energy - the parameter that tunes the transition between the FM and CAF phases - with behavior in qualitative agreement with experiment.
