Precision $e^-$ Beam Polarimetry at an $e^+e^-$ B Factory using Tau-Pair Events

Abstract: We present a new technique, `Tau Polarimetry', for measuring the longitudinal beam polarization present in an $e^+e^-$ collider through the analysis of $e^+e^-\rightarrowτ^+τ^-$ events. By exploiting the sensitivity of $τ$ decay kinematics to the longitudinal polarization of the beams, we demonstrate that the longitudinal polarization can be measured with a 3 per mil systematic uncertainty at the… ▽ More We present a new technique, `Tau Polarimetry', for measuring the longitudinal beam polarization present in an $e^+e^-$ collider through the analysis of $e^+e^-\rightarrowτ^+τ^-$ events. Using 424.2$\pm$1.8 fb$^{-1}$ of BABAR data at $\sqrt{s}=10.58$ GeV, the average longitudinal polarization of the PEP-II $e^+e^-$ collider has been measured to be $\langle P\rangle=0.0035 \pm 0.0024_{\textrm{stat}}\pm 0.0029_{\textrm{sys}}$. The systematic uncertainty studies are described in detail, which can serve as a guide for future applications of Tau Polarimetry. A proposed $e^-$ beam longitudinal polarization upgrade to the SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider would benefit from this technique. △ Less

Search for Evidence of Baryogenesis and Dark Matter in $B^{+} \rightarrow ψ_{\text{D}} + \text{p} $ Decays at BABAR

Abstract: A new dark sector anti-baryon, denoted $ψ_{\text{D}}$, could be produced in decays of $B$ mesons. This letter presents a search for $B^{+} \rightarrow ψ_{\text{D}} + \text{p}$ (and the charge conjugate) decays in $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilations at 10.58 GeV, using data collected in the ~\babar~ experiment. Data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 398 fb$^{-1}$ are analyzed. Search for an Axion-Like Particle in B Meson Decays

Study of the process $e^+e^-\to π^+π^-π^0$ using initial state radiation with BABAR

Abstract: The process $e^+e^-\to π^+π^-π^0γ$ is studied at a center-of-mass energy near the $Υ(4S)$ resonance using a data sample of 469 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. We have performed a precise measurement of the $e^+e^-\to π^+π^-π^0$ cross section in the center-of-mass energy range from 0.62 to 3.5 GeV. In the energy regions of the $ω$ and $φ$ resonances, the cross se… ▽ More The process $e^+e^-\to π^+π^-π^0γ$ is studied at a center-of-mass energy near the $Υ(4S)$ resonance using a data sample of 469 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. We have performed a precise measurement of the $e^+e^-\to π^+π^-π^0$ cross section in the center-of-mass energy range from 0.62 to 3.5 GeV. In the energy regions of the $ω$ and $φ$ resonances, the cross section is measured with a systematic uncertainty of 1.3\%. The leading-order hadronic contribution to the muon magnetic anomaly calculated using the measured $e^+e^-\to π^+π^-π^0$ cross section from threshold to 2.0 GeV is $(45.86 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.58)\times 10^{-10}$. From the fit to the measured $3π$ mass spectrum we have determined the resonance parameters $Γ(ω\to e^+e^-){\cal B}(ω\to π^+π^-π^0)=(0.5698\pm0.0031\pm0.0082) \mbox{ keV}$, $Γ(φ\to e^+e^-){\cal B}(φ\to π^+π^-π^0)=(0.1841\pm0.0021\pm0.0080) \mbox{ keV}$, and ${\cal B}(ρ\to 3π)=(0.88\pm 0.23\pm 0.30)\times 10^{-4}$. The significance of the $ρ\to 3π$ signal is greater than $6σ$. For the $J/ψ$ resonance we have measured the product ${Γ(J/ψ\to e^+e^-){\cal B}(J/ψ\to 3π)}=(0.1248\pm0.0019\pm0.0026)\mbox{ keV}$. △ Less

Search for Darkonium in $e^+e^-$ Collisions

The data were collected with the \babar~ detector at SLAC. About 14\,000 and 4700 events, respectively, are selected from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 469 fb^{-1}. Search for a Dark Leptophilic Scalar at BABAR

The experimental constraints on additional scalars with masses in the MeV to GeV range could be significantly weakened if they interact predominantly with leptons rather than quarks. Measurement of the spectral function for the $τ^-\to K^-K_Sν_τ$ decay

The corresponding non-radiative cross sec… ▽ More The process $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-2π^0γ$ is investigated by means of the initial-state radiation technique, where a photon is emitted from the incoming electron or positron. Using $454.3 \rm{fb}^{-1}$ of data collected around a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 10.58 \rm{GeV}$ by the BaBar experiment at SLAC, approximately 150000 signal events are obtained. The corresponding non-radiative cross section is measured with a relative uncertainty of $3.6\%$ in the energy region around $1.5 \rm{GeV}$, surpassing all existing measurements in precision. Using this new result, the channel's contribution to the leading order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is calculated as $(g_μ^{π^+π^-2π^0}-2)/2 = (17.9 \pm 0.1_\mathrm{stat} \pm 0.6_\mathrm{syst}) \times 10^{-10}$ in the energy range $0.85\rm{GeV} < E_\mathrm{CM} < 1.8\rm{GeV}$. In the same energy range, the impact on the running of the fine structure constant at the $Z^0$-pole is determined as $Δα^{π^+π^-2π^0}(M^2_\mathrm{Z}) = (4.44 \pm 0.02_\mathrm{stat} \pm 0.14_\mathrm{syst}) \times 10^{-4}$. Measurement of the $D^*(2010)^+ - D^+$ mass difference

The data were recorded with the BABAR detector at center-of-mass energies at and near the $Υ(4S)$ resonance, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of approximately 468 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$. We measure… ▽ More We measure the mass difference, $Δm_+$, between the $D^{*}(2010)^+$ and the $D^+$ using the decay chain $D^{*}(2010)^+\to D^+ π^0$ with $D^+\to K^-π^+π^+$. The data were recorded with the BABAR detector at center-of-mass energies at and near the $Υ(4S)$ resonance, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of approximately 468 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$. We measure $Δm_+ = \left(140\,601.0 \pm 6.8[{\rm stat}] \pm 12.9[{\rm syst}]\right)$ keV. We combine this result with a previous BABAR measurement of $Δm_0\equiv m(D^{*}(2010)^+) - m (D^0)$ to obtain $Δm_D = m(D^+) - m(D^0) = \left(4\,824.9 \pm 6.8[{\rm stat}] \pm 12.9[{\rm syst}]\right)$ keV. Measurement of the inclusive electron spectrum from B meson decays and determination of |Vub|

We fit the inclusive electron spectrum to distinguish Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) suppressed B -> Xu e nu decays from the CKM-favored B -> Xc e nu decays, and from various other backgrounds, and determine the total semileptonic branching fraction… ▽ More Based on the full BaBar data sample of 466.5 million BBbar pairs, we present measurements of the electron spectrum from semileptonic B meson decays. We determine the spectrum and branching fraction for charmless B -> Xu e nu decays and extract the CKM element |Vub|, by relying on four different QCD calculations based on the heavy quark expansion. While experimentally, the electron momentum region above 2.1GeV/c is favored, because the background is relatively low, the uncertainties for the theoretical predictions are largest in the region near the kinematic endpoint. Detailed studies to assess the impact of these four predictions on the measurements of the electron spectrum, the branching fraction, and the extraction of the CKM matrix element |Vub| are presented, with the lower limit on the electron momentum varied from 0.8GeV/c to the kinematic endpoint. We determine |Vub| using each of these different calculations and find, |Vub| = (3.794 +- 0.107_exp +0.292-0.219_SF +0.078-0.068_theory)*10^{-3} (De Fazio and Neubert), (4.563 +- 0.126_exp +0.230-0.208_SF +0.162-0.163_theory)*10^{-3} (Bosh, Lange, Neubert, and Paz), (3.959 +- 0.104_exp +0.164-0.154_SF +0.042-0.079_theory)*10^{-3} (Gambino, Giordano, Ossola, and Uraltsev), (3.848 +- 0.108_exp +0.084-0.070_theory)*10^{-3} (dressed gluon exponentiation), where the stated uncertainties refer to the experimental uncertainties of the partial branching fraction measurement, the shape function parameters, and the theoretical calculations. △ Less

Search for a muonic dark force at BABAR

Each $τ$ lepton is required to decay leptonically into an electron or muon and neutrinos. Comparing the expected number of background events with the data sample after applying the selection criteria, we do not find evidence for a signal. The form factor is found to decrease with energy faster than $1/E^2$, and approaches the asymptotic QCD prediction. The results for the kaon form factor are used together with data from other experiments to perform a model-independent determination of the relative phases between single-photon and strong amplitudes in $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)\to K^+K^-$ decays. The values of the branching fractions measured in the reaction $e^+e^- \to K^+K^-$ are shifted relative to their true values due to interference between resonant and nonresonant amplitudes. The values of these shifts are determined to be about $\pm5\%$ for the $J/ψ$ meson and $\pm15\%$ for the $ψ(2S)$ meson. △ Less

Search for CP violation In B0-B0bar mixing using partial reconstruction of B0bar -> D*+Xl-nubar and kaon tagging

Abstract: We describe in detail a previously published measurement of CP violation induced by B0-anti B0 oscillations, based on an integrated luminosity of 425.7 fb-1 collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEPII collider. We apply a novel technique to a sample of about 6 million B0bar -> D*+ l- nubar decays selected with partial reconstruction of the D*+ meson. The charged lepton identifies the flavor of… ▽ More We describe in detail a previously published measurement of CP violation induced by B0-anti B0 oscillations, based on an integrated luminosity of 425.7 fb-1 collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEPII collider. We apply a novel technique to a sample of about 6 million B0bar -> D*+ l- nubar decays selected with partial reconstruction of the D*+ meson. The charged lepton identifies the flavor of one B meson at its decay time, the flavor of the other B is determined by kaon tagging. We determine a CP violating asymmetry ACP = (0.0006 +- 0.0017 + 0.0038 - 0.0032). This measurement is consistent and competitive with those obtained at the B factories with dilepton events. △ Less

Search for a light Higgs resonance in radiative decays of the Y(1S) with a charm tag

Measurement of the branching fractions of the radiative leptonic tau decays tau -> e gamma nu anti-nu and tau -> mu gamma nu anti-nu at BaBar

Search for new $π^0$-like particles produced in association with a $τ$-lepton pair

Restricting our analysis exclusively to final states from which a decaying B meson's flavor can be inferred, we additionally report measurements of the direct CP asymmetry ACP in bins of dilepton mass; over the full dilepton mass range, we find ACP=0.04 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.01$ for a lepton-flavor-averaged sample. △ Less

Abstract: We describe searches for B meson decays to the charmless vector-vector final states omega omega and omega phi with 471 x 10^6 B Bbar pairs produced in e+ e- annihilation at sqrt(s) = 10.58 GeV using the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We also determine the upper limit B(B0 --> omega phi) < 0.7 x 10^-6 at 90% confidence level. Measurement of Collins asymmetries in inclusive production of charged pion pairs in e^+e^- annihilation at BABAR

We use a data sample of 468 fb-1 collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II B factory at SLAC, and consider pairs of charged pions produced in opposite hemispheres of hadronic events. Measurement of the Mass of the D0 Meson

Search for a light Higgs boson decaying to two gluons or ss-bar in the radiative decays of Y(1S)

Abstract: We search for the decay Y(1S) -> gamma A0, A0 -> gg or ss-bar, where A0 is the pseudoscalar light Higgs boson predicted by the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model. We use a sample of (17.6 +- 0.3)x 10^6 Y(1S) mesons produced in the BaBar experiment via e+e- -> Y(2S) -> pi+pi-Y(1S).
