We probe the real space electronic response to a local magnetic impurity in isovalent and heterovalent doped BaFe2As2 (122) using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). The local moments carried by Mn impurities doped into Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2(Co-122) and BaFe(As1-xPx)2(P-122) at optimal do** induce a spin polarization in the vicinity of the impurity. The amplitude, shape and extension of this polarisation is given by the real part of the susceptibility chi'(r) of FeAs layers, and is consequently related to the nature and strength of the electronic correlations present in the system. We study this polarisation using 75As NMR in Co-122 and both 75As and 31P NMR in P-122. The NMR spectra of Mn-doped materials is made of two essential features. First is a satellite line associated with nuclei located as nearest neighbor of Mn impurities. The analysis of the temperature dependence of the shift of this satellite line shows that Mn local moments behave as isolated Curie moments. The second feature is a temperature dependent broadening of the central line. We show that the broadening of the central line follows the susceptibility of Mn local moments, as expected from typical RKKY-like interactions. This demonstrates that the susceptibility chi'(r) of FeAs layers does not make significant contribution to the temperature dependent broadening of the central line. chi'(r) is consequently only weakly temperature dependent in optimally doped Co-122 and P-122. This behaviour is in contrast with that of strongly correlated materials such as underdoped cuprate high-Tc superconductors where the central line broadens faster than the impurity susceptibility grows, because of the development of strong magnetic correlations when T is lowered. Moreover, the FeAs layer susceptibility is found quantitatively similar in both heterovalent doped and isolvalent doped BaFe2As2.

We investigate with angle resolved photoelectron spectroscopy the change of the Fermi Surface (FS) and the main bands from the paramagnetic (PM) state to the antiferromagnetic (AFM) occurring below 72 K in Fe_{1.06}Te. The evolution is completely different from that observed in iron-pnictides as nesting is absent. The AFM state is a rather good metal, in agreement with our magnetic band structure calculation. On the other hand, the PM state is very anomalous with a large pseudogap on the electron pocket that closes in the AFM state. We discuss this behavior in connection with spin fluctuations existing above the magnetic transition and the correlations predicted in the spin-freezing regime of the incoherent metallic state.

We investigate magnetic ordering in metallic Ba[Fe(1-x)Mn(x)](2)As(2) and discuss the unusual magnetic phase, which was recently discovered for Mn concentrations x > 10%. We argue that it can be understood as a Griffiths-type phase that forms above the quantum critical point associated with the suppression of the stripe-antiferromagnetic spin-density-wave (SDW) order in BaFe2As2 by the randomly introduced localized Mn moments acting as strong magnetic impurities. While the SDW transition at x = 0, 2.5% and 5% remains equally sharp, in the x = 12% sample we observe an abrupt smearing of the antiferromagnetic transition in temperature and a considerable suppression of the spin gap in the magnetic excitation spectrum. According to our muon-spin-relaxation, nuclear magnetic resonance and neutron-scattering data, antiferromagnetically ordered rare regions start forming in the x = 12% sample significantly above the Néel temperature of the parent compound. Upon cooling, their volume grows continuously, leading to an increase in the magnetic Bragg intensity and to the gradual opening of a partial spin gap in the magnetic excitation spectrum. Using neutron Larmor diffraction, we also demonstrate that the magnetically ordered volume is characterized by a finite orthorhombic distortion, which could not be resolved in previous diffraction studies most probably due to its coexistence with the tetragonal phase and a microstrain-induced broadening of the Bragg reflections. We argue that Ba[Fe(1-x)Mn(x)](2)As(2) could represent an interesting model spin-glass system, in which localized magnetic moments are randomly embedded into a SDW metal with Fermi surface nesting.

Using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we study the evolution of the number of carriers in Ba(Fe(1-x)Cox)2As2 as a function of Co content and temperature. We show that there is a k-dependent energy shift compared to density functional calculations, which is large at low Co contents and low temperatures and reduces the volume of hole and electron pockets by a factor 2. This k-shift becomes negligible at high Co content and could be due to interband charge or spin fluctuations. We further reveal that the bands shift with temperature, changing significantly the number of carriers they contain (up to 50%). We explain this evolution by thermal excitations of carriers among the narrow bands, possibly combined with a temperature evolution of the k-dependent fluctuations.

The Fe layer magnetic susceptibility far from Mn atoms is probed by the75As NMR line shift and is found similar to that of BaFe2As2, implying that Mn does not induce charge do**. A satellite line associated with the Mn nearest neighbours (n.n.) of 75As displays a Curie-Weiss shift which demonstrates that Mn carries a local magnetic moment. This is confirmed by the main line broadening typical of a RKKY-like Mn-induced staggered spin polarization. The Mn moment is due to the localization of the additional Mn hole. These findings explain why Mn does not induce superconductivity in the pnictides contrary to other dopants such as Co, Ni, Ru or K.

77Se and 87Rb nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments on Rb0.74Fe1.6Se2 reveal clearly distinct spectra originating from a majority antiferromagnetic (AF) and a minority metallic-superconducting (SC) phase. The very narrow NMR line of the SC phase evidences the absence of Fe vacancies and any trace of AF order. The Rb content of the SC phase is deduced from intensity measurements identifying Rb0.3(1)Fe2Se2 as the actual composition of the SC fraction. The resulting estimate of 0:15 electrons/Fe brings this class of superconductors 245 family closer to the other Fe-based superconductor families.
