Convergence, optimization and stability of singular eigenmaps
Abstract: Eigenmaps are important in analysis, geometry, and machine learning, especially in nonlinear dimension reduction. Approximation of the eigenmaps of a Laplace operator depends crucially on the scaling parameter $ε$. If $ε$ is too small or too large, then the approximation is inaccurate or completely breaks down. However, an analytic expression for the optimal $ε$ is out of reach. In our work, we us… ▽ More

Layer potential operators for transmission problems on extension domains
Abstract: We use the well-posedness of transmission problems on classes of two-sided Sobolev extension domains to give variational definitions for (boundary) layer potential operators and Neumann-Poincar{é} operators. These classes of domains contain Lipschitz domains, and also domains with fractal boundaries. Quantitative approach to Grover's quantum walk on graphs
Abstract: In this paper, we study Grover's search algorithm focusing on continuous-time quantum walk on graphs. We propose an alternative optimization approach to Grover's algorithm on graphs that can be summarized as follows: instead of finding specific graph topologies convenient for the related quantum walk, we fix the graph topology and vary the underlying graph Laplacians. One-dimensional wave equations defined by fractal Laplacians
Abstract: We study one-dimensional wave equations defined by a class of fractal Laplacians. These Laplacians are defined by fractal measures generated by iterated function systems with overlaps, such as the well-known infinite Bernoulli convolution associated with the golden ratio and the 3-fold convolution of the Cantor measure. The iterated function systems defining these measures do not satisfy the post-… ▽ More

Expansion in generalized eigenfunctions for Laplacians on graphs and metric measure spaces
Abstract: We consider an arbitrary selfadjoint operator on a separable Hilbert space. To this operator we construct an expansion in generalized eigenfunctions in which the original Hilbert space is decomposed as a direct integral of Hilbert spaces consisting of general eigenfunctions. This automatically gives a Plancherel type formula. For suitable operators on metric measure spaces we discuss some growth r… ▽ More

Metrics and spectral triples for Dirichlet and resistance forms
Abstract: The article deals with intrinsic metrics, Dirac operators and spectral triples induced by regular Dirichlet and resistance forms. We show, in particular, that if a local resistance form is given and the space is compact in resistance metric, then the intrinsic metric yields a geodesic space. Given a regular Dirichlet form, we consider Dirac operators within the framework of differential 1-forms pr… ▽ More

Measures and Dirichlet forms under the Gelfand transform
Abstract: Using the standard tools of Daniell-Stone integrals, Stone-Čech compactification and Gelfand transform, we discuss how any Dirichlet form defined on a measurable space can be transformed into a regular Dirichlet form on a locally compact space. This implies existence, on the Stone-Čech compactification, of the associated Hunt process. As an application, we show that for any separable resistance fo… ▽ More

Energy measure closability for Dirichlet forms
Abstract: We consider symmetric Dirichlet forms on locally compact and non-locally compact spaces and provide an elementary proof for their closability with respect to energy dominant measures. We also discuss how to use known potential theoretic results to furnish an alternative proof of this theorem.

Vector analysis on fractals and applications
Abstract: The paper surveys some recent results concerning vector analysis on fractals. We start with a local regular Dirichlet form and use the framework of 1-forms and derivations introduced by Cipriani and Sauvageot to set up some elements of a related vector analysis in weak and non-local formulation. This allows to study various scalar and vector valued linear and non-linear partial differential equati… ▽ More

Spatial Log Periodic Oscillations of First-Passage Observables in Fractals
Abstract: For transport processes in geometrically restricted domains, the mean first-passage time (MFPT) admits a general scaling dependence on space parameters for diffusion, anomalous diffusion, and diffusion in disordered or fractal media. For transport in self-similar fractal structures, we obtain a new expression for the source-target distance dependence of the MFPT that exhibits both the leading powe… ▽ More

Dirac and magnetic Schrödinger operators on fractals
Abstract: In this paper we define (local) Dirac operators and magnetic Schrödinger Hamiltonians on fractals and prove their (essential) self-adjointness. To do so we use the concept of 1-forms and derivations associated with Dirichlet forms as introduced by Cipriani and Sauvageot, and further studied by the authors jointly with Röckner, Ionescu and Rogers. For simplicity our definitions and results are form… ▽ More

Local Dirichlet forms, Hodge theory, and the Navier-Stokes equations on topologically one-dimensional fractals
Abstract: We consider finite energy and $L^2$ differential forms associated with strongly local regular Dirichlet forms on compact connected topologically one-dimensional spaces. We introduce notions of local exactness and local harmonicity and prove the Hodge decomposition, which in our context says that the orthogonal complement to the space of all exact 1-forms coincides with the closed span of all local… ▽ More

Spectral Analysis and Dirichlet Forms on Barlow-Evans Fractals
Abstract: We develop the foundation of the spectral analysis on Barlow-Evans projective limit fractals, or vermiculated spaces, which corresponds to symmetric Markov processes on these spaces. For some new examples, such as the generalized Laakso spaces and a Spierpinski Pâte à Choux, one can develop a complete spectral theory, including the eigenfunction expansions that are analogous to Fourier series. Vector analysis for Dirichlet forms and quasilinear PDE and SPDE on metric measure spaces
Abstract: Starting with a regular symmetric Dirichlet form on a locally compact separable metric space $X$, our paper studies elements of vector analysis, $L_p$-spaces of vector fields and related Sobolev spaces. These tools are then employed to obtain existence and uniqueness results for some quasilinear elliptic PDE and SPDE in variational form on $X$ by standard methods. For many of our results locality… ▽ More
