Charge-density-wave order in a solid can be temporarily "melted" by a strong laser pulse. Here we use the discrete Gross-Pitaevskii equation on a cubic lattice to simulate the recovery of the CDW long-range phase coherence following such a pulse. Our simulations indicate that the recovery process is dramatically slowed down by the three-dimensional topological defects - CDW dislocations - created as a result of strongly nonequilibrium heating and cooling of the system. Overall, the simulated CDW recovery was found to be remarkably reminiscent of a recent pump-probe experiment in LaTe$_3$.

We numerically investigate heating-and-cooling quenches taking place entirely in the non-ordered phase of the discrete Gross-Pitaevskii equation on a three-dimensional cubic lattice. In equilibrium, this system exhibits a U(1)-ordering phase transition at an energy density which is significantly lower than the minimum one during the quench. Yet, we observe that the post-quench relaxation is accompanied by a transient U(1) ordering, namely, the correlation length of U(1) fluctuations significantly exceeds its equilibrium pre-quench value. The longer and the stronger the heating stage of the quench, the stronger the U(1) transient ordering. We identify the origin of this ordering with the emergence of a small group of slowly relaxing lattice sites accumulating a large fraction of the total energy of the system. Our findings suggest that the transient ordering may be a robust feature of a broad class of physical systems. This premise is consistent with the growing experimental evidence of the transient U(1) order in rather dissimilar settings.

We present a detailed theoretical description of quantum coherent electron transport in voltage-biased cross-like Andreev interferometers. Making use of the charge conjugation symmetry encoded in the quasiclassical formalism, we elucidate a crucial role played by geometric and electron-hole asymmetries in these structures. We argue that a non-vanishing Aharonov-Bohm-like contribution to the current $I_S$ flowing in the superconducting contour may develop only in geometrically asymmetric interferometers making their behavior qualitatively different from that of symmetric devices. The current $I_N$ in the normal contour -- along with $I_S$ -- is found to be sensitive to phase-coherent effects thereby also acquiring a $2π$-periodic dependence on the Josephson phase. In asymmetric structures this current develops an odd-in-phase contribution originating from electron-hole asymmetry. We demonstrate that both phase dependent currents $I_S$ and $I_N$ can be controlled and manipulated by tuning the applied voltage, temperature and system topology, thus rendering Andreev interferometers particularly important for future applications in modern electronics.

We propose a method of estimating ergodization time of a chaotic many-particle system by monitoring equilibrium noise before and after time reversal of dynamics (Loschmidt echo). The ergodization time is defined as the characteristic time required to extract the largest Lyapunov exponent from a system's dynamics. We validate the method by numerical simulation of an array of coupled Bose-Einstein condensates in the regime describable by the discrete Gross-Pitaevskii equation. The quantity of interest for the method is a counterpart of out-of-time-order correlators (OTOCs) in the quantum regime.

We propose theoretically an experimentally realizable method to demonstrate the Lyapunov instability and to extract the value of the largest Lyapunov exponent for a chaotic many-particle interacting system. The proposal focuses specifically on a lattice of coupled Bose-Einstein condensates in the classical regime describable by the discrete Gross-Pitaevskii equation. We suggest to use imperfect time-reversal of system's dynamics known as Loschmidt echo, which can be realized experimentally by reversing the sign of the Hamiltonian of the system. The routine involves tracking and then subtracting the noise of virtually any observable quantity before and after the time-reversal. We support the theoretical analysis by direct numerical simulations demonstrating that the largest Lyapunov exponent can indeed be extracted from the Loschmidt echo routine. We also discuss possible values of experimental parameters required for implementing this proposal.

We investigate the nature of the phase transition occurring in a planar XY-model spin system with dipole-dipole interactions. It is demonstrated that a Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) type of phase transition always takes place at a finite temperature separating the ordered (ferro) and the disordered (para) phases. The low-temperature phase corresponds to an ordered state with thermal fluctuations, composed of a "gas" of bound vortex-antivortex pairs, which would, when considered isolated, be characterized by a constant vortex-antivortex attraction force which is due to the dipolar interaction term in the Hamiltonian. Using a topological charge model, we show that small bound pairs are easily polarized, and screen the vortex-antivortex interaction in sufficiently large pairs. Screening changes the linear attraction potential of vortices to a logarithmic one, and leads to the familiar pair dissociation mechanism of the BKT type phase transition. The topological charge model is confirmed by numerical simulations, in which we demonstrate that the transition temperature slightly increases when compared with the BKT result for short-range interactions.
