We present simple effective theory of quark masses, mixing and CP violation with level $N=3$ ($A_4$) modular symmetry, which provides solution to the strong CP problem without the need for an axion. The vanishing of the strong CP-violating phase $\bar θ$ is ensured by assuming CP to be a fundamental symmetry of the Lagrangian of the theory. The CP symmetry is broken spontaneously by the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of the modulus $τ$. This provides the requisite large value of the CKM CP-violating phase while the strong CP phase $\bar θ$ remains zero or is tiny. Within the considered framework we discuss phenomenologically viable quark mass matrices with three types of texture zeros, which are realized by assigning both the left-handed and right-handed quark fields to $A_4$ singlets ${\bf 1}$, ${\bf 1'}$ and ${\bf 1''}$ with appropriate weights. The VEV of $τ$ is restricted to reproduce the observed CKM parameters. We discuss cases in which the modulus VEV is close to the fixed points $i$, $ω$ and $i\infty$. In particular, we focus on the VEV of $τ$, which gives the absolute minima of the supergravity-motivated modular- and CP-invariant potentials for the modulus $τ$, so called, modulus stabilisation. We present a successful model, which is consistent with the modulus stabilisation close to $τ=ω$.

We study the interplay of New Physics (NP) among the lepton magnetic moment, the lepton flavor violation (LFV) and the electron electric dipole moment (EDM) in light of recent data of the muon $(g-2)_μ$. The NP is discussed in the leptonic dipole operator with the $U(2)$ flavor symmetry of the charged leptons, where possible CP violating phases of the three family space are taken into account. It is remarked that the third-family contributes significantly to the LFV decay, $μ\to eγ$, and the electron EDM. The experimental upper-bound on $μ\to eγ$ decay gives a severe constraint on the parameters of the flavor model. The predicted electron EDM is rather large due to the CP violating phases in the three family space. In addition, we also study $(g-2)_{e,τ}$ of the electron and tauon, and EDMs of the muon and tauon as well as the $τ\to e γ$ and $τ\to μγ$ decays. The $τ_R \to μ_L γ$ decay is predicted to be close to the experimental upper-bound.

The quark mass hierarchies are considered in the vicinity of the fixed point $τ= i\infty$, $τ$ being the vacuum expectation value of the modulus. We consider first a model in which the up-type and down-type quark mass matrices $M_u$ and $M_d$ involve modular forms of level 3 and weights 6, 4 and 2 and each depends on four constant parameters. We also consider the case of $M_u$ and $M_d$ depending on the same $τ$ and involving modular forms of weights 8, 4, 2 and 6, 4, 2, respectively, with $M_u$ receiving a tiny SUSY breaking or higher dimensional operator contribution. Both the mass hierarchies of up-type and down-type quarks as well and the CKM mixing angles and CP violating phase are reproduced successfully with one complex parameter and all parameters being in magnitude of the same order. The relatively large value of ${\rm Im}\,τ$, needed for describing the down-type quark mass hierarchies, is crucial for obtaining the correct up-type quark mass hierarchies.

We investigate the possibility to describe the quark mass hierarchies as well as the CKM quark mixing matrix without fine-tuning in a quark flavour model with modular $A_4$ symmetry. The quark mass hierarchies are considered in the vicinity of the fixed point $τ= ω\equiv \exp({i\,2π/3})$ (the left cusp of the fundamental domain of the modular group), $τ$ being the VEV of the modulus. The model involves modular forms of level 3 and weights 6, 4 and 2, and contains eight constants, only two of which, $g_u$ and $g_d$, can be a source of CP violation in addition to the VEV of the modulus, $τ= ω+ ε$, $(ε)^* \neq ε$, $|ε|\ll 1$. We find that in the case of real (CP-conserving) $g_u$ and $g_d$ and common $τ$ ($ε$) in the down-quark and up-quark sectors, the down-type quark mass hierarchies can be reproduced without fine tuning with $|ε| \cong 0.03$, all other constants being of ${\cal O}(1)$, and correspond approximately to $1 : |ε| : |ε|^2$. The up-type quark mass hierarchies can be achieved with the same $|ε| \cong 0.03$ but allowing $g_u\sim {\cal O}(10)$ and correspond to $1 : |ε|/|g_u| : |ε|^2/|g_u|^2$. In this setting, we discuss the CKM quark mixing and CP violation.

Since all the couplings in supersymmetric theories of finite modular symmetries $Γ_N$ are described by holomorphic modular forms with even modular weights, renormalizable and non-renormalizable operators such as baryon- and/or lepton-number violating operators are severely constrained. From the modular transformation of matter multiplets with modular weight $1/M$, we find $\mathbb{Z}_{2M}$ symmetries, including the generalized baryon and lepton parities, $R$-parity, $\mathbb{Z}_3$ baryon triality and $\mathbb{Z}_6$ proton hexality. Such $\mathbb{Z}_{2M}$ symmetries are enlarged to $\mathbb{Z}_{2M} \rtimes \mathbb{Z}_2^{\text{CP}}$ symmetries together with the CP transformation.

We study systematically derivation of the specific texture zeros, that is the nearest neighbor interaction (NNI) form of the quark mass matrices at the fixed point $τ=ω$ in modular flavor symmetric models. We present models that the NNI forms of the quark mass matrices are simply realized at the fixed point $τ=ω$ in the $A_4$ modular flavor symmetry by taking account multi-Higgs fields. Such texture zero structure originates from the $ST$ charge of the residual symmetry $Z_3$ of $SL(2,Z)$. The NNI form can be realized at the fixed point $τ= ω$ in $A_4$ and $S_4$ modular flavor models with two pairs of Higgs fields when we assign properly modular weights to Yukawa couplings and $A_4$ and $S_4$ representations to three generations of quarks. The CP symmetry remains at $τ= e^{2 πi/3}$ by a combination of the $T$-symmetry of the modular symmetry. However, the $T$-symmetry breaking may lead to the CP violation at the fixed point $τ= e^{2 πi/3}$. We study such a possibility in magnetized orbifold models as examples of modular flavor symmetric models. These models, in general, have more than one candidates for Higgs modes, while generic string compactifications also lead to several Higgs modes. These Higgs modes have different behaviors under the $T$-transformation. The light Higgs mode can be a linear combination of those modes so as to lead to realistic quark mass matrices. The CP phase of mass matrix does not appear in a certain case, which is determined by the $T$-transformation behavior. Deviation from it is important to realize the physical CP phase. We discuss an example leading to non-vanishing CP phase at the fixed point $τ= e^{2 πi/3}$.

We update and improve past efforts to predict the leptonic Dirac CP-violating phase with models that predict perturbatively modified tribimaximal or bimaximal mixing. Simple perturbations are applied to both mixing patterns in the form of rotations between two sectors. By translating these perturbed mixing matrices to the standard parameterization for the neutrino mixing matrix we derive relations between the Dirac CP-phase and the oscillation angles. We use these relations together with current experimental results to constrain the allowed range for the CP-phase and determine its probability density. Furthermore, we elaborate on the prospects for future experiments probing on the perturbations considered in this work. We present a model with $A_4$ modular symmetry that is consistent with one of the described perturbed scenarios and successfully predicts current oscillation parameter data.

We employ the stringy Ansatz on coupling structure that 4-point couplings of matter fields are written by a product of 3-point couplings of matter fields. We take the level 3 finite modular group, $Γ_3$ for the flavor symmetry, and discuss the dipole operators at nearby fixed point $τ=i$, where observed lepton masses and mixing angles are well reproduced. Suppose the anomaly of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon to be evidence of the new physics (NP), we have related it with $(g-2)_{e}$, LFV decays, and the electron EDM. It is found that the NP contribution to $(g-2)_{e}$ is proportional to the lepton masses squared likewise the naive scaling. We also discuss the correlations among the LFV processes $μ\to eγ$, $τ\to μγ$ and $τ\to eγ$, which are testable in the future. The electron EDM requires the tiny imaginary part of the relevant Wilson coefficient in the basis of real positive charged lepton masses, which is related to the $μ\to eγ$ transition in our framework.

We study the modular symmetric standard-model effective field theory. We employ the stringy Ansatz on coupling structure that 4-point couplings $y^{(4)}$ of matter fields are written by a product of 3-point couplings $y^{(3)}$ of matter fields, i.e., $y^{(4)} = y^{(3)}y^{(3)}$. In this framework, we discuss the flavor structure of bilinear fermion operators and 4-fermion operators, where the holomorphic and anti-holomorphic modular forms appear. From the Ansatz, the $A_4$ modular-invariant semileptonic four-fermion operator $[\,\bar E_R ΓE_R][\,\bar D_R ΓD_R\,]$ does not lead to the flavor changing (FC) processes since this operator would be constructed in terms of gauge couplings $g$ as $y^{(3)} \sim g$. The chirality flipped bilinear operator $[\,\bar D_R ΓD_L\,]$ also does not lead FC if the mediated mode corresponds to the Higgs boson $H_d$. In this case, the flavor structure of this operator is the exactly same as the mass matrix. On the other hand, if the flavor structure of the operator is not the exactly same as the mass matrix, the situation would change drastically. Then, we obtain the non-trivial relations of FC transitions at nearby fixed points $τ=i,\,ω\,, i\infty$, which are testable in the future. As an application, we discuss the relations of the lepton flavor violation processes $ μ\to eγ,\, τ\to μγ$ and $τ\to eγ$ at nearby $τ_e=i$, where the successful lepton mass matrix was obtained. We also study the flavor changing 4-quark operators in the $A_4$ modular symmetry of quarks. As a result, the minimal flavor violation could be realized by taking relevant specific parameter sets of order one.

The electric dipole moment (EDM) of electron is studied in the supersymmetric $\rm A_4$ modular invariant theory of flavors with CP invariance. The CP symmetry of the lepton sector is broken by fixing the modulus $τ$. Lepton mass matrices are completely consistent with observed lepton masses and mixing angles in our model. In this framework, a fixed $τ$ also causes the CP violation in the soft SUSY breaking terms. The elecrton EDM arises from the CP non-conserved soft SUSY breaking terms. The experimental upper bound of the electron EDM excludes the SUSY mass scale below $2-6$ TeV for five cases of the lepton mass matrices. In order to see the effect of CP phase of the modulus $τ$, we examine the correlation between the electron EDM and the decay rate of the $μ\rightarrow e γ$ decay, which is also predicted by the soft SUSY breaking terms. The correlations are clearly predicted in contrast to models of the conventional flavor symmetry. The SUSY mass scale will be constrained by the future sensitivity of the electron EDM, $|d_e/e| \simeq 10^{-30}$. Indeed, it could probe the SUSY mass range of $10-20$ TeV in our model. Thus, the electron EDM provides a severe test of the CP violation via the modulus $τ$ in the supersymmetric modular invariant theory of flavors.

We propose an $A_4$ modular invariant flavor model of leptons, in which both CP and modular symmetries are broken spontaneously by the vacuum expectation value of the modulus $τ$. The value of the modulus $τ$ is restricted by the observed lepton mixing angles and lepton masses for the normal hierarchy of neutrino masses at $3σ$ confidence level. The predictive Dirac CP phase $δ_{CP}$ is in the ranges $[0^\circ,50^\circ]$, $[170^\circ,175^\circ]$ and $[280^\circ,360^\circ]$ for ${\rm Re}\, [τ]<0$, and $[0^\circ,80^\circ]$, $[185^\circ,190^\circ]$ and $[310^\circ,360^\circ]$ for ${\rm Re}\,[τ]>0$ at $3σ$ confidence level. The sum of three neutrino masses is predicted in $[60, 84]$ meV, and the effective mass for the $0νββ$ decay is in [0.003, 3] meV. On the other hand, there is no allowed region of the modulus $τ$ for the inverted hierarchy of neutrino masses at $3σ$ confidence level. The modulus $τ$ links the Dirac CP phase to the cosmological baryon asymmetry (BAU) via the leptogenesis. Due to the strong wash-out effect, the predictive baryon asymmetry $Y_B$ can be at most the same order of the observed value. Then, the lightest right-handed neutrino mass is restricted in the range of $M_1 =[1.5,\,6.5] \times 10^{13}$ GeV. We find the correlation between the predictive $Y_B$ and the Dirac CP phase $δ_{CP}$. Only two predictive $δ_{CP}$ ranges, $[5^\circ,40^\circ]$ (${\rm Re}\,[τ]>0$) and $[320^\circ,355^\circ]$ (${\rm Re}\,[τ]<0$) are consistent with the BAU.

We study the soft supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking terms due to the modulus F-term in the modular flavor models of leptons. It is found that the soft SUSY breaking terms are constrained by the modular forms, and specific patterns are derived. Those phenomenological implications are discussed in such as the lepton flavor violation, $μ\rightarrow e + γ$ decay. In order to examine numerically, two modular flavor $A_4$ models are taken. The SUSY breaking scale is significantly constrained by inputting the observed upper bound of the $μ\rightarrow e + γ$ decay. The SUSY mass scale is larger than around $8$ TeV and $5$ TeV for the two $A_4$ models, respectively. Therefore, the current experimental upper bound for the $μ\to e + γ$ decay corresponds to the new physics of the SUSY particle at the $5$ -- $10$ TeV scale in the modular flavor models. The predicted branching ratio depends on a modulus $τ$ significantly. It decreases of one order at the large ${\rm Im}\,τ$. We also calculate the branching ratios of tauon decays to $e + γ$ and $μ+ γ$. Predicted ones are at most ${\cal O}(10^{-15})$, which are much below the current experimental bounds.

These fixed points correspond to the residual symmetries $\mathbb{Z}_2^{S}=\{I, S \}$ and $\mathbb{Z}_3^{S}=\{ I, ST, (ST)^2 \}$ of $\rm A_4$, where $S$ and $T$ are generators of the $A_4$ group. The infinite $τ= i \infty$ also preserves the residual symmetry of the subgroup $\mathbb{Z}^T_3=\{ I,T,T^2 \}$ of $\rm A_4$. We study typical two-type mass matrices for charged leptons and quarks in terms of modular forms of weights $2$, $4$ and $6$ while the neutrino mass matrix with the modular forms of weight $4$ through the Weinberg operator. Linear modular forms are obtained approximately by performing Taylor expansion of modular forms around fixed points. By using them, the flavor structure of the lepton and quark mass matrices are examined at nearby fixed points. The hierarchical structure of these mass matrices is clearly shown in the diagonal base of $S$, $T$ and $ST$. The observed PMNS and CKM mixing matrices can be reproduced at nearby fixed points in some cases of mass matrices. By scanning model parameters numerically at nearby fixed points, our discussion are confirmed for both the normal hierarchy and inverted one of neutrino masses. Predictions are given for the sum of neutrino masses and the CP violating Dirac phase of leptons at each nearby fixed point.

We study quark and lepton mass matrices with the common modulus $τ$ in the $A_4$ modular symmetry. The viable quark mass matrices are composed of modular forms of weights $2$, $4$ and $6$. It is remarked that the modulus $τ$ is close to $i$, which is a fixed point in the fundamental region of SL$(2,Z)$, and the CP symmetry is not violated. Indeed, the observed CP violation is reproduced at $τ$ which is deviated a little bit from $τ=i$. The charged lepton mass matrix is also given by using modular forms of weights $2$, $4$ and $6$, where five cases have been examined. The neutrino mass matrix is generated in terms of the modular forms of weight $4$ through the Weinberg operator. Lepton mass matrices are also consistent with the observed mixing angles at $τ$ close to $i$ for NH of neutrino masses. Allowed regions of $τ$ of quarks and leptons overlap each other for all cases of the charged lepton mass matrix. However, the sum of neutrino masses is crucial to test the common $τ$ for quarks and leptons. The minimal sum of neutrino masses $\sum m_i$ is $140$meV at the common $τ$.
The inverted hierarchy of neutrino masses is unfavorable in our framework. It is emphasized that our result suggests the residual symmetry $\mathbb{Z}_2^{S}=\{ I, S \}$ in the quark and lepton mass matrices.

We study the modulus stabilization in an $A_4$ model whose $A_4$ flavor symmetry is originated from the $S_4$ modular symmetry. We can stabilize the modulus so that the $A_4$ invariant superpotential leads to the realistic lepton masses and mixing angles. We also discuss the phenomenological aspect of the present model as a consequence of the modulus stabilization.

We propose a new $A_4$ flavor model of leptons by using those $A_4$ modular forms. We succeed in constructing a viable neutrino mass matrix through the Weinberg operator for both normal hierarchy (NH) and inverted hierarchy (IH) of neutrino masses. Our predictions of the CP violating Dirac phase $δ_{CP}$ and the mixing $\sin^2θ_{23}$ depend on the sum of neutrino masses for NH.

We adopt modular forms of weights $2$ and $6$ for quarks and charged leptons, while we use modular forms of weight $4$ for the neutrino mass matrix which is generated by the Weinberg operator. We obtain the successful quark mass matrices, in which the down-type quark mass matrix is constructed by modular forms of weight $2$, but the up-type quark mass matrix is constructed by modular forms of weight $6$. Two regions of $τ$ are consistent with observed CKM matrix elements. The one is close to $τ=i$ and the other is in the larger ${\rm Im }[τ]$. On the other hand, lepton mass matrices work well only at nearby $τ=i$, which overlaps with the one of the quark sector, for the normal hierarchy of neutrino masses. In the common $τ$ region for quarks and leptons, the predicted sum of neutrino masses is $87$--$120$meV taking account of its cosmological bound. Since both the Dirac CP phase $δ_{CP}^\ell$ and $\sin^2θ_{23}$ are correlated with the sum of neutrino masses, improving its cosmological bound provides crucial tests for our scheme as well as the precise measurement of $\sin^2θ_{23}$ and $δ_{CP}^\ell$. The effective neutrino mass of the $0νββ$ decay is $\langle m_{ee}\rangle=15$--$31$\,meV. It is remarked that the modulus $τ$ is fixed at nearby $τ=i$ in the fundamental domain of SL$(2,Z)$, which suggests the residual symmetry $Z_2$ in the quark and lepton mass matrices. The inverted hierarchy of neutrino masses is excluded by the cosmological bound of the sum of neutrino masses.

We discuss the relation between the CP violation of the quark mixing and that of the lepton mixing by investigating a CP violating observable, the Jarlskog invariant, as well as the CP violating Dirac phase. The down-type quark mass matrix with three zeros is given in terms of the minimal number of parameters, while the up-type quark mass matrix is diagonal. These quark mass matrices leading to the successful CKM mixing angles and CP violation are embedded in both the Pati--Salam and SU(5) models. The leptonic Jarlskog invariant $J_{CP}^l$ (as well as CP violating Dirac phase) is examined for two cases: the neutrino mass matrix is diagonal or non-diagonal, where no additional CP violating phase is introduced apart from the Majorana phases. In the case of the diagonal neutrino mass matrix, the favorable sign of the leptonic CP violation is obtained, however, the magnitude of $J_{CP}^l$ is at most ${\cal O}(10^{-4})$, which is too small compared with the expected value from the observation $-0.02$. In the case of the non-diagonal neutrino mass matrix where the tri-bimaximal mixing pattern is taken, we obtain the successful $J_{CP}^l$ up to its sign.

We study the phenomenological implications of the modular symmetry $Γ(3) \simeq A_4$ of lepton flavors facing recent experimental data of neutrino oscillations. The mass matrices of neutrinos and charged leptons are essentially given by fixing the expectation value of modulus $τ$, which is the only source of modular invariance breaking. We introduce no flavons in contrast with the conventional flavor models with $A_4$ symmetry. We classify our neutrino models along with the type I seesaw model, the Weinberg operator model and the Dirac neutrino model. In the normal hierarchy of neutrino masses, the seesaw model is available by taking account of recent experimental data of neutrino oscillations and the cosmological bound of sum of neutrino masses. The predicted $\sin^2θ_{23}$ is restricted to be larger than $0.54$ and $δ_{CP}=\pm (50^{\circ}\mbox{--}180^{\circ})$. Since the correlation of $\sin^2θ_{23}$ and $δ_{CP}$ is sharp, the prediction is testable in the future. It is remarkable that the effective mass $m_{ee}$ of the neutrinoless double beta decay is around $22$\,meV while the sum of neutrino masses is predicted to be $145$\,meV. On the other hand, for the inverted hierarchy of neutrino masses, only the Dirac neutrino model is consistent with the experimental data.

The model with the $1"$ singlet flavon gives the prediction of $\sin^2 θ_{12}$ around the best fit of NuFIT 3.2 while kee** near the maximal mixing of $θ_{23}$. Inputting the experimental mixing angles with the $1\,σ$ error-bar, the Dirac CP violating phase is clearly predicted to be $|δ_\text{CP}|=50^\circ- 120^\circ$, which will be tested by the precise observed value in the future. In order to get the best fit value $\sin^2θ_{23}=0.538$, the sum of three neutrino masses is predicted to be larger than $90\,$meV. The cosmological observation for the sum of neutrino masses will also provide a crucial test of our predictions. We study the minimal seesaw model, where two right-handed Majorana neutrinos are introduced, focusing on the CP violating phase. In addition, we take the trimaximal mixing pattern for the neutrino flavor where the charged lepton mass matrix is diagonal. Thanks to this symmetric framework, the $3\times 2$ Dirac neutrino mass matrix is given in terms of a few parameters. Numerical studies reveal that the observation of the CP violating phase can determine the flavor structure of the Dirac neutrino mass matrix in the minimal seesaw model. In particular, new minimal Dirac neutrino mass matrices are proposed in the case of $\rm TM_1$, which is derived by the additional 2-3 family mixing to the tri-bimaximal mixing basis in the normal hierarchy of neutrino masses. Our analyses include the Littlest seesaw model by King {\it et al.}, which is one of the specific one in our results. Furthermore, it is remarked that our $3\times 2$ Dirac neutrino mass matrix is reproduced by introducing gauge singlet flavons with the specific alignments of the VEV's. We discuss the neutrino mass matrix based on the Occam's Razor approach in the framework of the seesaw mechanism. We impose four zeros in the Dirac neutrino mass matrix, which give the minimum number of parameters needed for the observed neutrino masses and lepton mixing angles, while the charged lepton mass matrix and the right-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrix are taken to be real diagonal ones. The low-energy neutrino mass matrix has only seven physical parameters. We show successful predictions for the mixing angle $θ_{13}$ and the CP violating phase $δ_{CP}$ with the normal mass hierarchy of neutrinos by using the experimental data on the neutrino mass squared differences, the mixing angles $θ_{12}$ and $θ_{23}$. The most favored region of $\sinθ_{13}$ is around $0.13\sim 0.15$, which is completely consistent with the observed value. The CP violating phase $δ_{CP}$ is favored to be close to $\pm π/2$. We also discuss the Majorana phases as well as the effective neutrino mass for the neutrinoless double-beta decay $m_{ee}$, which is around $7\sim 8$ meV. It is extremely remarkable that we can perform a "complete experiment" to determine the low-energy neutrino mass matrix, since we have only seven physical parameters in the neutrino mass matrix. In particular, two CP violating phases in the neutrino mass matrix are directly given by two CP violating phases at high energy. Thus, assuming the leptogenesis we can determine the sign of the cosmic baryon in the universe from the low-energy experiments for the neutrino mass matrix.

We probe the SUSY at the $10 \ {\rm TeV}$ scale in the rare decays and the CP violation of the kaon. We focus on the processes of $K_L \to π^0 ν{\bar ν}$ and $K^+ \to π^+ ν{\bar ν}$ combined with the CP violating parameters $ε_K$ and $ε_K^\prime/ε_K$. The Z-penguin mediated by the chargino loop cannot enhance $K_L \to π^0 ν{\bar ν}$ and $K^+ \to π^+ ν{\bar ν}$ because the left-right mixing of the stop is constrained by the $125$ GeV Higgs mass. On the other hand, the Z-penguin mediated by the gluino loop can enhance the branching ratios of both $K_L \to π^0 ν{\bar ν}$ and $K^+ \to π^+ ν{\bar ν}$. The former increases up to more than $1.0 \times 10^{-10}$, which is much larger than the SM prediction even if the constraint of $ε_K$ is imposed. It is remarkable that the Z-penguin mediated by the gluino loop can enhance simultaneously $ε^\prime_K/ε_K$ and the branching ratio of $K_L \to π^0 ν{\bar ν}$, which increases up to $1.0 \times 10^{-10}$. We also study the decay rates of $K_L\rightarrow μ^+μ^-$, $B^0\rightarrow μ^+μ^-$ and $B_s\rightarrow μ^+μ^-$, which correlate with the $K_L \to π^0 ν{\bar ν}$ decay through the Z penguin. It is important to examine the $B^0\rightarrow μ^+μ^-$ process since we expect the enough sensitivity of this decay mode to the SUSY at LHCb.

On the standpoint of Occam's Razor approach, we consider the minimum number of parameters in the quark mass matrices needed for the successful CKM mixing and CP violation. We impose three zeros in the down-quark mass matrix with taking the diagonal up-quark mass matrix to reduce the number of free parameters. The three zeros are maximal zeros in order to have a CP violating phase in the quark mass matrix. Then, there remain six real parameters and one CP violating phase, which is the minimal number to reproduce the observed data of the down-quark masses and the CKM parameters. The twenty textures with three zeros are examined. Among them, the thirteen textures are viable for the down-quark mass matrix. As a representative of these textures, we discuss a texture $M_d^{(1)}$ in details. By using the experimental data on $\sin 2β$, $θ_{13}$ and $θ_{23}$ together with the observed quark masses, the Cabibbo angle is predicted to be close to the experimental data. It is found that this surprising result remains unchanged in all other viable textures. We also investigate the correlations among $|V_{ub}/V_{cb}|$, $\sin 2β$ and $J_{CP}$. For all textures, the maximal value of the ratio $|V_{ub}/V_{cb}|$ is $0.09$, which is smaller than the upper-bound of the experimental data, $0.094$. We hope that this prediction will be tested in future experiments.

We propose two new simple lepton flavor models in the framework of the $S_4$ flavor symmetry. The neutrino mass matrices, which are given by two complex parameters, lead to the inverted mass hierarchy. The charged lepton mass matrix has the 1-2 lepton flavor mixing, which gives the non-vanishing reactor angle $θ_{13}$. These models predict the Dirac phase and the Majorana phases, which are testable in the future experiments. The predicted magnitudes of the effective neutrino mass for the neutrino-less double beta decay are in the regions as $32~\text{meV}\lesssim |m_{ee}|\lesssim 49~\text{meV}$ and $34~\text{meV}\lesssim |m_{ee}|\lesssim 59~\text{meV}$, respectively. These values are close to the expected reaches of the coming experiments. The total sum of the neutrino masses are predicted in both models as $0.0952~\text{eV}\lesssim \sum m_i\lesssim 0.101~\text{eV}$ and $0.150~\text{eV}\lesssim \sum m_i\lesssim 0.160~\text{eV}$, respectively.

In order to estimate the contribution of the squark flavor mixing to these FCNCs,we calculate the squark mass spectrum, which is consistent with the recent Higgs discovery. The SUSY contribution in $ε_K$ could be large, around 40% in the region of the SUSY scale $10$-$100$ TeV. The neutron EDM and the mercury EDM are also sensitive to the SUSY contribution induced by the gluino-squark interaction. The predicted EDMs are roughly proportional to $|ε_K^{\rm SUSY}|$. If the SUSY contribution is the level of O(10%) for epsilon_K, the neutron EDM is expected to be discovered in the region of $10^{-28}$-$10^{-26}$ecm. The mercury EDM also gives a strong constraint for the gluino-squark interaction. The SUSY contribution of $ΔM_D$ is also discussed.

The effect of fat content in cheese curds on their rheological properties was examined using dynamic shear measurements. Surplus fat addition to milk samples caused two distinct types of changes in the temperature dependence of the viscoelastic moduli of resultant curds. The first was a significant reduction in the moduli over a wide temperature range, which is attributed to the presence of liquefied fat globules within the milk protein network. The second was the excess contribution to the low-temperature moduli owing to the reinforcing effect of solidified fat globules. An upward shift in the sol-gel phase transition temperature driven by an increased fat content was also observed.

We have studied the contribution of the high-scale SUSY to the K_L to pi^0 nu{bar nu} and K^+ to pi^+ nu{bar nu} processes correlating with the CP violating parameter epsilon_K. Taking account of the recent LHC results for the Higgs discovery and the SUSY searches, we consider the high-scale SUSY at the 10-50 TeV scale in the framework of the non-minimal squark (slepton) flavor mixing. The Z penguin mediated the chargino dominates the SUSY contribution for these decays. At the 10 TeV scale of the SUSY, the chargino contribution can enhance the branching ratio of K_L to pi^0 nu{bar nu} in eight times compared with the SM predictions whereas the predicted branching ratio BR(K^+ to pi^+ nu {bar nu}) increases up to three times of the SM one. The gluino box diagram dominates the SUSY contribution of epsilon_K up to 30%. If the down-squark mixing is neglected compared with the up-squark mixing, the Z penguin mediated the chargino dominates both SUSY contributions of K_L to pi^0 nu {bar nu} and epsilon_K. Then, it is found a correlation between them, but the chargino contribution to epsilon_K is at most 3%. Even if the SUSY scale is 50TeV, the chargino process still enhances the branching ratio of K_L to pi^0 nu {bar nu} from the SM prediction in the factor two, and epsilon_K is deviated from the SM prediction in O(10%) through the gluino box diagram unless the down-squark mixing is suppressed. We also discuss the chargino contribution to K_L to pi^0 e^+e^- process.

We study the linking between the CP violating phase of the lepton sectors and the unitarity triangle of the B0 meson system. Antusch, King, Malinsky and Spinrath have shown that the quark mass matrices with the negligible 1-3 mixing give an interesting relation between the phase of the quark mixing matrices and CP violating measure phi_2(alpha). This approach is extended by considering the SO(10) GUT including the Pati-Salam symmetry, which links the Yukawa matrices of the quark sector to the one of the lepton sector. We discuss the relation of the CP violating phases between both quark and lepton sectors as well as the mixing angles. Then, the leptonic CP violating phase is predicted in terms of the angle of the unitarity triangle of the B0 meson system. The leptonic CP violating phase deltaPMNS is predicted in the region -74 to -89, which is the consistent with the recent T2K results. Our predicted phase is sensitive to phi_2(alpha) and phi_3(gamma). These predictions will be clearly tested in the future neutrino experiments as well as the Belle-II experiment.

We show how possible values of the Dirac-type CP phase $δ_D$ can be predicted with regards to two neutrino mixing angles in the standard parametrization of the neutrino mixing matrix. Carrying out numerical analysis based on the recent updated experimental results for neutrino mixing angles, we predict the values of the CP phase for all possible cases. Changing the rigidity of cheese curds through heating and pH control is an established method for preparing fresh curds, whereas a similar method to prepare fully coagulated curds is largely unknown. This study elucidated the effect of temperature variation on the viscoelastic moduli of fully coagulated curds under different pH conditions. The results showed that rennet curds treated at pH 4.8 exhibited drastic changes in the viscoelasticity at 43 degrees C, above which the degree of fluidity exceeded the degree of rigidity. The viscoelastic moduli exhibited exponential decay as a function of temperature, which was independent of pH.

We study the CP violation in the deviation from the tri-bimaximal mixing (TBM) of neutrinos. We examine non-trivial relations among the mixing angles and the CP violating Dirac phase in the typical four cases of the deviation from the TBM. The first two cases are derived by the additional rotation of the 2-3 or 1-3 generations of neutrinos in the TBM basis. The other two cases are given by the additional rotation of the 1-3 or 1-2 generations of charged leptons with the TBM neutrinos. These four cases predict different relations among three mixing angles and the CP violating Dirac phase. The rotation of the 2-3 generations of neutrinos in the TBM basis predicts $\sin ^2θ_{12}<1/3$, and the CP violating Dirac phase to be $\pm (0.09π\sim 0.76π)$ for NH ($\pm (0.15π\sim 0.73π) \ \text{for IH}$) depending on $\sin ^2θ_{23}$. The rotation of the 1-3 generations of neutrinos in the TBM basis gives $\sin ^2θ_{12}>1/3$. The CP violating Dirac phase is not constrained by the input of the present experimental data. For the case of the 1-3 and 1-2 rotations of charged leptons in the TBM basis, the CP violating Dirac phase is predicted in $\pm(0.35π\sim 0.60π)$ depending on $\sin ^2θ_{12}$ for both NH and IH cases. We also discuss the specific case that $θ_{13}$ is related with the Cabibbo angle $λ$ such as $\sinθ_{13}=λ/\sqrt{2}$, in which the maximal CP violation is preferred. The CP violating Dirac phase can distinguish the lepton flavor mixing patterns at T2K and NO$ν$A experiments in the future.

Taking the universal soft parameters at the SUSY breaking scale, we obtain the squark mass spectrum at 10 TeV and 50 TeV, where the SM emerges. Then, the 6times6 mixing matrix between down-squarks and down-quarks is discussed by input of the experimental data of K, B0 and Bs mesons. It is found that epsilon_K is most sensitive to the high scale SUSY. The SUSY contributions for the time-dependent CP asymmetries S_{ J/psi K_S} and S_{ J/psi phi} are 6-8% at the SUSY scale of 10 TeV. The origin of fermion mass hierarchies and mixings is one of the unresolved and most difficult problem in high-energy physics. One possibility to address the flavour problem is by extending the Standard Model to include a family symmetry. In the recent years it has become very popular to use non-Abelian discrete flavour symmetries because of their power in the prediction of the large leptonic mixing angles relevant for neutrino oscillation experiments. Here we give an introduction to the flavour problem and to discrete groups which have been used to attempt a solution for it. We review the current status of models in the light of the recent measurement of the reactor angle and we consider different model building directions taken. The use of the flavons or multi Higgs scalars in model building is discussed as well as the direct vs. indirect approaches. We also focus on the possibility to distinguish experimentally flavour symmetry models by means of mixing sum rules and mass sum rules. In fact, we illustrate in this review the complete path from mathematics, via model building, to experiments, so that any reader interested to start working in the field could use this text as a starting point in order to get a broad overview of the different subject areas.
