A significant hurdle for quantum information and processing using bosonic systems is stochastic phase errors which occur as the photons propagate through a channel. These errors will reduce the purity of states passing through the channel and so reducing the channels capacity. We present a scheme of passive linear optical unitary averaging for protecting unknown Gaussian states transmitted through an optical channel. The scheme reduces the effect of phase noise on purity, squeezing and entanglement, thereby enhancing the channel via probabilistic error correcting protocol. The scheme is robust to loss and typically succeeds with high probability. We provide both numerical simulations and analytical approximations tailored for relevant parameters with the improvement of practical and current technology. We also show the asymptotic nature of the protocol, highlighting both current and future relevance.

Abstract:
The concept of photon added two-mode Schrödinger cat states in which both modes are independent is introduced, their non-classical properties and entanglement are studied. The introduced states emerge as the eigenstates of $f_1f_2a_1a_2$, where $f_1, f_2$ are nonlinear functions of the number operator and $a_1, a_2$ are annihilation operators. We study the evolution of these states under the canon…

We study the evolution of these states under the canonical transformation using the parity operator for the case of standard coherent states of the harmonic oscillator. The non-classical properties of these states are evaluated especially by considering sub-Poissonian photon statistics and photon number distribution. Interestingly, the addition of photons leads to shifting the region in which photon number distribution shows oscillatory behavior. In addition, the entanglement of introduced states has been quantitatively analyzed using concurrence. We observe that the state approaches the maximum entanglement more rapidly after the addition of photons.

The wedge product of vectors has been shown to yield the generalised entanglement measure I-concurrence, wherein the separability of the multiparty qubit system arises from the parallelism of vectors in the underlying Hilbert space of the subsystems. Here, we demonstrate the geometrical conditions of the post-measurement vectors which maximize the entanglement corresponding to the bi-partitions and can yield non-identical set of maximally entangled states. The Bell states for the two qubit case, GHZ and GHZ like states with superposition of four constituents for three qubits, naturally arise as the maximally entangled states. The geometric conditions for maximally entangled two qudit systems are derived, leading to the generalised Bell states, where the reduced density matrices are maximally mixed. We further show that the reduced density matrix for an arbitrary finite dimensional subsystem of a general qudit state can be constructed from the overlap of the post-measurement vectors. Using this approach, we discuss the trade-off between the local properties namely predictability and coherence with the global property, entanglement for the non-maximally entangled two qubit state.

Concurrence introduced by Hill and Wootters [Phys. Rev. Lett. 78, 5022 (1997)], provides an important measure of entanglement for a general pair of qubits that is strictly positive entangled states and vanishes for all separable states. We present an extension of entanglement measure to general continuous variable states of multiple degrees of freedom by generalizing the Lagrange's identity and wedge product framework proposed by Bhaskara et al. [Quantum Inf. Process. 16, 118 (2017)] for pure discrete variable systems in arbitrary dimensions. A family of faithful entanglement measures is constructed that admit necessary and sufficient conditions for separability across arbitrary bipartitions presented by Vedral et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 16 2275 (1997)]. The computed entanglement measure in the present approach for general Gaussian states, pair coherent states and non Gaussian continuous variable Bell states, matches with known results. We also quantify entanglement of phase randomized squeezed states and superposition of squeezed states. Our results also simplify several results in quantum entanglement theory.
